Ronald "Gene" Stalnaker, 71, of Grass Run, Gilmer County, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at his farm on Tater Knob following a farm accident. He was born in Gilmer County, the son of Wynona Brannon Stalnaker of Grass Run and the late Okey Stalnaker, Jr. He was a local businessman, oil and gas producer, and farmer. He was a World War II veteran, having been stationed in Japan. He was also a 50-year member of Hardman Fork Baptist Church, Grass Run, where he was a deacon. Surviving are his wife, Audra Ancell Stalnaker; one son, Ronald Gene Stalnaker, Jr., of Grass Run; four daughters, Barbara Miller, Judith Smith and Sherri L. Wildman, all of Grass Run, and Sandi Rankin of Mentor, Ohio; three brothers, Richard "Dick" Stalnaker and William "Bill" Stalnaker, both of Glenville, and Okey L. Stalnaker of Grass Run; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Hardman Fork Baptist Church, with Elder Charles Fisher and Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lane cemetery.

Alma M. Starcher, 70, of Campbell Addition, Spencer, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Roane County, the daughter of the late Ulysses S. Grant and Delma Gladys Alvis Greathouse. She was retired from Spencer State Hospital and was a member of Full Gospel Lighthouse, Big Bend. Surviving are four daughters, Janet Starcher of Parkersburg, Shirley Gainer and Eva Chapman, both of Spencer, and Emma Walker of Big Bend; two sisters, Mary Catherine Berentine of Pensacola, Fla., and Ruth Ann Jett of Wyoming; five brothers, Emory "Pete" Greathouse, Kenneth Greathouse and David Great-house, all of Spencer, Samuel Greathouse of Parkersburg and Ronnie Joe Greathouse of Cleveland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Starcher; one brother, Grant Greathouse, Jr.; and one sister, Mildred L. Bennington. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. David Carpenter and Rev. Randy Whited officiating. Burial was in Eventide cemetery, Spencer.

Report has been received of the death of Donald Dale Starcher, 59. He was born in Rocksdale, the son of the late Gordie Starcher and Mildred Starcher Denning of Michigan. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary Sampson Starcher; two daughters, Ruth Ann and Sharren; five sons, Don, David, Danny, Wayne and Bobby; two brothers, Bob Starcher of Hudson, Ohio, and Gordie Starcher, Jr., of Minter, Ohio; two sisters, Doris Dunlap and Tonya Denning of Michigan; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Burial was in Starcher cemetery, Henry's Fork.

Fred Starcher, Jr., 73, of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at his home. He was born in Rocksdale, the son of the late Fred and Eva Bethel Hall Starcher, Sr. He retired in 1987 after 35 years of service at the former Spencer Hospital. He was a former employee of Denbigh- Garrett License and Title Service, Spencer, and a member of Spencer 7th Day Adventist Church, Spencer. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Christine Church Starcher; three sons, James Fredrick Starcher and Roger Mark Starcher, both of Arnoldsburg, and David Allen Starcher of Millstone; two sisters, Opal Mace of Arnoldsburg and Ada Webb of Spencer; and two grandchildren, Kristyn Starcher and Cody Starcher. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Starcher and Chester Starcher. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Walter Fry officiating, and burial in Starcher cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

L.R. "Pete" Sterns, 61, of Sistersville, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born in Sistersville, the son of the late Howard and Everyleen Spence Sterns. He was an employee of Roche Vitamins, a U.S. Army veteran, and member of VFW Post 6327, Sistersville, OCAW Local 3-499, and Sistersville Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Janice Lovejoy Sterns; one son, Bryan P. Sterns of Grantsville; one daughter, Stephanie L. Sterns of Sistersville; one step-daughter, Carol L. Festus Stevens, 82, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at West Virginia University Hospitals, Morgantown. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Francis Kay and Lula Florence Starcher Stevens. He was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, Big Bend. Surviving are five brothers, Sheldon Stevens of Parkersburg, James Stevens of Summersville, Donald Stevens of Grantsville, Cleo Stevens of Clayton, Ala., and Samual Stevens of Munday; three sisters, Retta Johnson and Geneva Wilson, both of Big Bend, and Rachel Smith of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews. Harry Stevens, 90, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Apr. 11, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Anmore, Harrison County, the son of the late Elliott and Matilda Sturms Stevens. He was a retired employee of W.Va. Dept. of Mines, Oil and Gas Division. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, Grantsville, Charleston Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies, Nemesis Temple of Parkersburg, and Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are his wife, Ethel M. Perry Stevens, and one daughter, Sandra Marshall of Grantsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Russell Stevens. Oral Stevens, 86, of Arnoldsburg, formerly of Stumptown, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late John and Annie Edwards Stevens. He was a farmer. Surviving are two nephews, Phillip Stevens of Arnoldsburg and Guy Boggs of Five Forks. Robert Paul Stevens, 50, of Sand Fork, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at the home of his mother-in-law, Winona Sumpter of Sand Fork. He was born in Pine Creek, the son of the late William Russell and Myrla Marie Conrad Stevens. He was a truck driver for Rhodes Trucking and a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are one son, Russell Paul Stevens of Paden City; two sisters, Lurland B. Starcher and Linda J. Harris, both of Grantsville; two brothers, William Russell Stevens, Jr., and David Elliott Stevens, both of Grantsville; and two grandsons, Kyle and Mike Stevens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Candace Sumpter Stevens, and one brother, Thomas Howard Stevens. Funeral arrangements were not submitted.

Fosta Dorothy Stump, 90, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Madison Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late A.A. and Maggie Boxberger Stump. She was a 1929 graduate of Morgantown High School, member of First Baptist Church, Morgantown, and retired from A&P Co. after 35 years service. Surviving are three nieces, Alma "Gerry" Kelly of Morgan-town, Ocie Frazier of Payson, Ariz., and Olena Remmy of Belpre, Ohio; and one nephew, Charles Collins of Morgantown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gray Stump and Dill Stump; four sisters, Jerl Stump Collins, Alma Stump, Wanda Stump and Merle Stump; and three nephews. Private graveside service and burial were in East Oak Grove cemetery with Dr. Truett Rogers officiating.

Geraldine V. Stump, 85, of Alvaton, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Grantsville, the daughter of the late William and Sarah Bitha Brown Yoak. She was a homemaker, former member of Akron Baptist Temple, and member of Grace Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Donald Ray Stump of Alvaton and Robert A. Stump of Tallmadge, Ohio; one daughter, JoAnn Carpenter of Alvaton; two sisters, Helen Godbey of Polk City, Fla., and Willa Lea Kelley of Grantsville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Hopkins-Lawver Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio. Burial was in Hillside Memorial cemetery.
