STUMP, GLADYS WEAVER

Gladys Weaver Stump, 92, of Grantsville, died Friday, June 25, 1999, at the residence of her brother, Gifford Weaver, at Mt. Zion. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Burns Weaver. She was the last member of the Class of 1925, the first graduating class at Calhoun County High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville, for 80 years and member of the Order of Eastern Star, Grantsville, where she had served as Past Worthy Matron. She formerly owned The Quality Shop, Grantsville, and was a Calhoun County Belle. Surviving in addition to her brother are one son, Dr. Charles A. Stump of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Jean Weidel of Akron, Ohio; one half-sister, Doris Griffith of Lancaster, S.C.; one half-brother, Don Weaver of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grand-children, Michael Stump and Ann Martorano, both of Daytona Beach; and one great-grandson, Michael Charles Stump of Albany, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Stump, in 1971; one brother, Glen Weaver; and three half-brothers, Loren, Delbert and Ernest Weaver. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Ceme-tery, near Grantsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church, Grantsville.

STUTLER, RALPH

Ralph B. Stutler, 82, of Norton, Ohio, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Barberton Citizens Hospital, Barberton, Ohio. He was born in Creston, the son of the late Curtis and Mabel Shrader Stutler. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was retired from PPG Industries, Barberton, and had been a resident of the Norton, Ohio, area for 50 years. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Opal Park Stutler; one son, Kevin Stutler of Norton; and two sisters, Madaline Lynch of Mt. Zion and Rozett Griffin of Titusville, Fla. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. William Delmas Stutler and Rev. Dennis Stutler officiating. Burial was in Cooper cemetery, Creston.

SUCK, HELEN

Helen C. Shutts Kidder Suck, 76, of Belpre, Ohio, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Harold and Ada Robbin Shutts. She attended Pleasant View United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Suck, Sr.; two sons, Harry "Mike" Kidder of Parkersburg and Charles "Ray" Kidder of Belpre; two daughters, Paula Jean Bennett of Belmont and Lela Mae Starcher of Arnoldsburg; two sisters, Jean Life and Ereta Holbert, both of Belpre; two brothers, Oshel Shutts of Belpre and Raymond Shutts of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Rev. Robert Randolph officiating. Graveside services were held at Rockland cemetery.

SUMMERS, ANNA MERLE

Anna Merle Summers, 71, of Stumptown, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. She was born in Clay County, the daughter of the late Raleigh and Ruble Hersman Summers. She was retired from Muller Electric Co., Cleveland, Ohio. Surviving are one son, Roger L. Davis of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; three daughters, Linda S. Harvey of Easley, S.C., Glendora Dickey of Lancaster, Ohio, and Orva Davis of Stumptown; one brother, John Summers of Painesville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. There were no services or visitation.

SUMMERS, ELLA

Ella Agnes Harris Summers, 94, of Kingwood, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Jean Beardslee, with whom she made her home for the past 20 years. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Lucy Starcher Harris. She was a homemaker. Surviving are five daughters, Helen McMillen of Morgan-town, Laura White and Jean Beardslee, both of Kingwood, Mary Murray of Buena Park, Calif., and Rosa Gibson of Masontown; two sons, Walter "Jack" Summers and Leonard "Pete" Summers, both of Morgantown; one sister, Obal Parker of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Fay Summers in 1949; one son, Donald Glen Laughlin; six brothers, Sammy, Leonard, Clifford, Frank, Merlin and French Harris; and two sisters, Alice Boatwright and Rosa Shaffer. Services were held at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Kingwood, with Rev. Dan Agnew officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

TALKINGTON, CLIFFORD

Clifford Cloyd "Tinker" Talkington, 77, of Glenville, died Wednesday, Apr. 14, 1999, at Sunrise Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Doddridge County, the son of the late John Harley and Eva Ethel Swiger Talkington. He was retired from Carnegie Natural Gas Co. with 371/2 years of service and was a member of Little Kanawha Independent Baptist Church, Burns-ville. Surviving are one daughter, Donna K. Brannon of Norman-town; one son, Gary Talkington of Greenwood; three brothers, Dwight Talkington of Pennsboro, Dean Talkington of East Liver-pool, Ohio, and Dewayne Talkington of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters, Willa Lee Tice of East Liverpool and Janice Stanley of Gambills, Md.; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two great-grand-children; and two step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Louise Talkington, and two brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial was in Freeman cemetery, Crystal Lake, West Union.

TUCKER, BEVERLY

Beverly Jean Tucker, 44, of Mt. Zion, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, following a short illness. She was born in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Lloyd and Catherine Spack Sanor of Salem. She was employed at Minnie Hamilton as a medical technologist. She was a graduate of West Branch High School and a member of Salem Saxon Club, Branch 18. Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Fred Tucker; one son, Michael Scott Tucker; three sisters, Karen Long of Uniontown, Ohio, Mary Appleby of Stow, Ohio, and Darlene Allison of Salem; and one brother, Bruce Sanor of Salem. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Sanor, June 22, 1998. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Homer Hensley and Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Bailey cemetery, Beech.

TUCKER, RUSSELL, SR.

Russell Tucker, Sr., 73, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Edward and Susie Nicholas Tucker. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired from the former Volvo-White Corp., Orrville, Ohio, as a set up man after 25 years of service. He was a member of Salem Mennonite Church of Wooster, Ohio, and former member of Jelly City Breakers. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Betty Davis Tucker; three sons, Russell Tucker of Massillon, Ohio, Robert Tucker of Marshallville, Ohio, and Randy Tucker of Orrville; four daughters, Susie Schroeder and Sheila Crosland, both of Orrville, Sharon York of Groton, Vt., and Berneda Killinger of Marshallville; four brothers, Homer Tucker of Sand Ridge, Euell Tucker of Arnoldsburg, Ottice Tucker of Brewster, Ohio, and Paul Tucker of Navarre, Ohio; two sisters, Pearl Schock of Beach City, Ohio, and Ruby McCumbers of Palestine; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hobert and Okie Tucker, and three sisters, Edna Duncan, Lovell Bane and Luranna Sidwell. Arrangements were made by Able Funeral Home, Orrville. Burial was in Maple Grove Memorial Park, Wooster.

VANHORN, DONALD

Donald O. VanHorn, 71, of Spencer, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Pearl Hathaway VanHorn of Big Springs and the late Leavy O. VanHorn. He was a general supervisor for Roane County Board of Education and was previously a teacher and principal with over 36 years of service. He was a member of Moriah Lodge #38, AF&AM, Spencer, and Spencer Baptist Temple, and was a graduate of Glenville State College and West Virginia University. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Bartlett VanHorn; one son, Steven VanHorn of Morgantown; one brother, Earl T. VanHorn of St. Louis, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Olivia Michelle VanHorn. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Spencer Baptist Temple, with Rev. Kevin Randolph and Rev. Garry Bowen officiating, and burial in Mt. Zion cemetery. Memorials may be made in his memory to Mountaineer Athletic Club, P.O. Box 0877, Morgantown, WV 26507, or Spencer Baptist Temple, Clay Rt., Box 8, Spencer, WV 25276.

VANNOY, DELBERT

Delbert Vannoy, 81, of Koppel, Pa., died Wednesday, Apr. 14, 1999. He was the son of the late Odus and Ethel Barr Vannoy. He retired from B&W Tube Mill. Surviving are his wife; one son; five sisters, Pauline Dobbins and Ruth Raybuck, both of Beaver Falls, Pa., Waneta Sturms of Grantsville, Virginia King of Orma and Wilma Freed of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Emanuel Vannoy of Grantsville and Hale Vannoy of Columbus, Ga.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held at Campbell's Funeral Home, Beaver Falls, with Rev. George Nogel officiating. Burial was in Grandview cemetery, Beaver Falls, with military services.

VANNOY, LELAH

Lelah G. Vannoy, 92, of Belpre, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born at Apple Farm, the daughter of the late Robert F. and Amanda Matthews Bennett. She was a lifelong member of Rush Run Baptist Church and a homemaker. Surviving are three sons, Russell Vannoy and Bill Vannoy of Belpre and Richard Vannoy of Guysville, Ohio; one daughter, Janice Brownfield of Vincent, Ohio; one sister, Ina Hannah of Grantsville; 15 grandchildren, including Mark Ball, whom she raised and who resided with her throughout her life; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell J. Vannoy, Sr.; two daughters, Carley Ruble and Carolyn Ball; one sister, Oleta Bennett; and one grandson, Steve Vannoy. Graveside services were held at Rockland cemetery, Belpre, with Rev. Mark Eaton officiating.

VARDA, JOSHUA

Joshua Nathaniel Varda, 20, of Spencer, died Saturday, Mar. 27, 1999, at his home. He was born in Parkersburg, the son of John and Debbie Houchin Varda of Spencer. He was a graduate of Roane County High School, was employed by McIntosh Hardware, Furniture and Appliance, Spencer, and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and Roane County Country Club. Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Sarah Varda; one brother, Andrew Varda; maternal grandparents, Billy and Wanda Houchin of Arnoldsburg; and paternal grandparents, Benny and June Vandale Varda of Spencer. Mass of Christian Resurrection was held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with Father Don Tranel officiating. Burial was in Eventide cemetery, Spencer.
