Shannon Lea Collins, 22, of Calhoun County, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, in Glenville. She was born in Mesa, Ariz., a daughter of Michael E. Collins of Big Springs and Patricia Sims Mowrey of Creston. She attended Brooksville Elementary School, Big Bend, and was a 1993 graduate of Calhoun County High School. She was in her third year at Glenville State College, majoring in early childhood education. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her stepfather, Thomas Mowrey of Creston; two sisters Sabrina Ann Collins of Glenville and Jennifer Lea Mowrey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Daniel Mowrey of Salt Lake City, Utah; maternal grandmother, Betty Sims of Big Bend; maternal stepgrandmother, Frankie Mowrey of Creston; paternal grandmother, Yvonna Colins of Big Springs; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Eddie Collins; maternal grandfather, W. P. "June" Sims; and step grandfather, Phillip Mowrey. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery near Big Bend.
COTTRILL, CARLOS ODELL
Carlos Odell Cottrill, 85, of Rosedale, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway. He was born Gilmer County, the son of the late Henry and Margaret Shoals Cottrill. He was a timberman and a member of Frozen Run Baptist Church, Shock. Surviving are two sons, Edward E. Cottrill and Bronzel J. Cottrill, both of Rosedale; one sister, Belle McCumbers of Glenville; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Cottrill, in 1992, and four sons. Services were held at Rosedale United Methodist Church, Rosedale. Burial was in Rosedale cemetery.
COX, FAE STARCHER
Fae Starcher Cox, 89, of Millstone, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at her home. She was born in Arnoldsburg, a daughter of the late James Y. and Myrtle Westfall Starcher. She taught school in Calhoun County for 34 years, the last 20 as first grade teacher at Arnoldsburg Elementary before retiring in 1972. She also taught in various one and two-room schools. She received an A.B. degree from Glenville State College and M.A. degree in elementary education from West Virginia University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association, Calhoun Historical Society, Arnoldsburg Extension Homemakers, and First Baptist Church, Grantsville, where she attended Fell Kennedy Sunday School Class, and a charter member of Phoebe Cunningham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, and was a former Folk Festival Belle. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Carl W. and Loretta Pernel Cox of Millstone; one daughter, Louise L. Cox of Silver Springs, Md.; two brothers, Eugene Starcher of Poca and Charles Knotts of Bickmore; and two grandchildren, Carl W. Cox II of Washington, D.C., and Lois Cox of Cleves, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Cox; one sister, Mattie, and one brother, Seldon. Services were held at First Baptist Church, Grantsville, with Rev. Bob Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, near Grantsville.
CRADDOCK, ELLEN
Ellen Craddock, 92, of Arnoldsburg, died Tuesday, Mar. 31, 1998, at home, following a long illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late William and Celia Yeager Slider. She was a retired elementary school teacher and was a homemaker. She was a member of Arnoldsburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Hope Roberts of Vienna and Linda Worthington of Creston; six sons, Leo Craddock of Palm Bay, Fla., Harold Craddock of Grantsville, Doyale Craddock, Ronald Craddock and Homer Craddock, all of Rittman, Ohio, and Larry Craddock of Newton; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glover Craddock; one son, Gale Craddock; and one granddaughter. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Gibson cemetery, Arnoldsburg.
CRAWFORD, EARL
Earl Crawford, 93, of Grantsville, diedWednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late John and Maggie Wood Crawford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had worked as an electrician, plumber, woodcrafter and helped build roads in Calhoun County. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville. He enjoyed sharpening saws and repairing clocks and watches. Surviving are his wife, Beulah Miller Crawford of Grantsville, two daughters, Earlene Thomas of Chloe and Barbara Whipkey of Mt. Zion; one son, Bernard Cooper of Eagle, Colo.; three sisters, Bea Shaffer of Millstone, Tressie Church of Arnoldsburg and Edra Hoskins of Magadore; one brother Don Crawford of Barberton; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, four brothers, and two sisters. Services were held at First Baptist Church, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley and Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Hur cemetery near Mt. Zion with military rites by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 32 of Parkersburg.

Woodrow W. Criss, 83, of Grantsville, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Samuel M. and Bertha Nelson Criss. He was a former oilfield worker and member of VFW Post #5959, Grantsville. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Linda Kerby Criss of Grantsville; three sons, Bill Criss of St. Marys, Richard Criss of Parkersburg and Danny Criss of Titusville, Fla.; three daughters, Patty Sue Bennett of Marietta, Ohio, Linda Tramell of Tallahassee, Fla., and Nancy Ann Criss of Vienna; two brothers, Bill Criss and Raymond Criss, both of Vienna; one sister, Imogene White of Parkersburg nd several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Pearl Richards Criss; one son, Randall; one daughter, Karen Criss; two brothers, Aaron and Harold Criss; and four sisters, Edith Knight, Marie Dotson, Elodene Barnes and Ethel Granthym. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Big Bend cemetery.

Ruben Davis, 84, of Big Bend, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg, following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late John Davis and Sara Husk Davis. He was a retired auto mechanic. Surviving are his wife, Isabell Davis; one daughter, Karen Bush of Big Bend; one granddaughter, Kimberly Bush of Big Bend; and two brothers, Elkins Davis and John Davis, both of Big Bend. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Isaac Davis, Okey Davis, Holly Davis and Eddie Davis. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Wagoner officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

Jennings R. "Hillbilly" Davisson, Sr., 64, of Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998. He was a native of Minnora. He retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. after 29 years service, and was a member of Kenmore Italian Civic Club, Cliff Hockley VFW Post 3532, and American Legion Post 449. Surviving are his wife, Wanda; one son, Jennings Davisson, Jr., of Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Debbie Andrew of Ellet, Ohio, Doreen Orlando of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Donna Faulknier of Akron; mother, Delpha Davisson of Minnora; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn of Orville, Ohio, and Melvin of West Virginia; and one sister, Iva Brannon of Arizona. Services were held at Schlup-Pucak Funeral Home with Rev. Dallas Billington officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Nelson P. Dawson, 61, of Horner, Lewis County, formerly of Nebo, Clay County, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a brief illness. He was born in Clay County, a son of the late Clyde and Lydia Tanner Dawson. He was retired from Ford Motor Co., Bedford, Ohio, and was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae Boggs Dawson; three daughters, Marie Dawson and Pam Tanner, both of Nebo, and Libby Sams of Horner; two sons, Danny Dawson of Frametown and Alan Dawson of Nebo; three sisters, Oma Richardson of Clendenin, Huldah Hogsed of Akron, Ohio, and Waveline Boggs of Nebo; four brothers, Orville Dawson of Ripley, Alfred and Ray Dawson, both of Nebo, and Dennis Dawson of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Halsie Butler. Graveside services were held at Boggs cemetery, Big Otter, with Rev. Robert Perrine officiating.

Amie Eloise Greathouse Deel, 69, of Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Augustus and Hannah Wilson Greathouse. She was a homemaker and a member of Alexander Baptist Church, near Spencer. Surviving are one daughter, Hannah Marie Deel of Spencer; eight sons, Tommy Deel, Rocky Deel, Hugh Deel, Tony Deel, all of Spencer, Garry Deel, Richard Deel, Mikel Deel, all of Hartville, Ohio, and Hayward Deel of Elizabeth; one sister, Shirley Miller of Spencer; one brother, James W. Greathouse of Linden; 29 grand-children; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartsel Deel; one daughter, Eloise Ann Deel; one son, Chester William Deel; three sisters, Ruth Reynolds, Sarah Miller and Betty Nichols; and two brothers, Orland Greathouse and Wyatt Greathouse. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. John Bowen officiating. Burial was in Otto cemetery, near Spencer.

Brice A. Deweese, 77, of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Camden-Clark Hospital, following a short illness. He was born at Milo, the son of the late Billy and Bertha Keith Deweese. He was formerly a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Nell Jarvis Deweese; two daughters, Nancy Ann Carpenter of Arnoldsburg and Birdine Nichols of Duck; one son, Bobby Deweese of Spencer; one sister, Maysel Coldiron of Tallmadge, Ohio; one step-sister, Mary Davidson of Orrville, Ohio; three half- brothers, Olen Ellis and Harlen Ellis, both of Orrville, and Oren Ellis of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grand-children; and 14 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one great-grandson, two brothers, one sister, one half-sister, and two step-brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Rick Perrine officiating. Burial was in Fink cemetery, Milo.

Gilbert R. DeWeese, 72, of Barberton, Ohio, died Saturday, Apr. 18, 1998. He was born on the Lower West Fork in Calhoun County, a son of the late Herman and Nellie Connolly DeWeese. Surviving are one brother, Orville (Jennings) DeWeese; two sisters, Geneva Lockhart and Garnet DeWeese; and four aunts, Elvie Duskey, Frankie Mowery, Grace Nichols, and Mabel Bennett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie Husk. Services were held at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert L. Webb and Pastor Cecil Farmer officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

Lloyd DeWitt, Jr., 66, of Orma, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, following a long illness. He was born in Morgantown, and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Rosalie Brady DeWitt; one brother, Frank O. DeWitt of Morgantown; two half-sisters, Edress Williams and Rita Pelzer, both of Charleroi, Pa.; one step-son, David Marks of Norwood, N.C.; two step-daughters, Pamela Bowlin of Salem, Ohio, and Gloria McCullough of Garrettsville, Ohio. Services were held at Stinson Church of Christ, Chloe, with Evangelist Gend Miller officiating. The body was cremated.
