FLEMMING, ALBERT II

Dr. Albert Burr Churchill Flemming, II, 53, of Ravenswood, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Newburg, N.Y., the son of the late Randolph and Anna Schmid Flemming. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ravenswood, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was an active member of several other boards and committees. During his 22 years in the Air Force, he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel and received a Meritorious Service Award before retiring in 1987. Educated at Calhoun County High School, Glenville State College and West Virginia University Medical School, he became a licensed physician in the states of Ohio, West Virginia and others. He most recently practiced medicine with Marietta Gynecologic Associates of Marietta, Ohio. Dr. Flemming served as chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. for the City of Ravenswood and was a member of Jackson County Developmental Center. H also belonged to American Legion General George Post #159, Williamstown, and Masonic Lodge, Biloxi, Miss. In addition, he was a Cub Scout leader and an active member of the Ravenswood High School Choral and Band Boosters. His hobbies included stained glass crafting, woodworking and gardening. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Ashby Flemming; one son, Albert B.C. Flemming, III, of Morgantown; two daughters, Edith Louise Flemming of Charleston and Alicia Vivian Hurley and son-in-law, James Hurley of Glenville; and three sisters.He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Services were held at First Baptist Church, Ravenswood, with Rev. Kenneth Mi ler off cating. Burial was in Ravenswood cemetery with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 215 Ann St., Ravenswood, W. Va. 26164.

FLOWER, GARY A.

Gary Allen Flower, 45, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Surviving are one brother, Charles Clower of Phoenix, Ariz., and one sister, Carol Lemons of Belle. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Highlawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

FOWLER, FRANCIS E. JR.

Francis E. Fowler, Jr., 76, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Mar. 7, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Francis E. and Helen Louise Brabham Fowler. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1967 after 20 years of service and retired from Shell Chemical in 1985. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #3 and was a Protestant. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Billie Earle Stevenson Fowler; three daughters, Linda Fowler of Parkersburg, Sandra Basagic of Fairmont and Karen Sams of Polk City, Fla.; one son, Larry Fowler of Washington; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Fowler. The body was cremated. There will be no services or visitation.

FOWLER, ORVAL 'BILL'

Orval "Bill" Fowler, 88, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at the residence of his step-son. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late J.P. and Mollie Frame Fowler. He was retired from Cumberland Gas Co., Huntington, and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Ice of Johnson City, Tenn.; one step-son with whom he resided, Billy "Pete" Trippett of Grantsville; one sister, Gertrude Lynch of Ocala, Fla.; seven grand-children; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Otta T. Fowler. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas and Harry Siers officiating. Burial was in Enon cemetery.

FREDERICK, HOWARD

Howard Kenneth Frederick, 68, of Eastlake, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Lakewest Hospital, Willoughby, Ohio. He was born in Freed, and resided in Cleveland before moving to Eastlake 36 years ago. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He reti ed in 1991 from Service Stamping Co., Willoughby. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Pauline Newlon Frederick; one daughter, Virginia L. Tenkku of Mentor, Ohio; one son, Kenneth W. Frederick of Eastlake; four grandchildren; and two great- granddaughters. Services were held at Davis Trust 100 Funeral Home, Willoughby, with Rev. Robert A. Gaston, Chaplain of Lake Hospital System, officiating. Burial was in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township, Ohio.

FREED, JAMES W.

James W. Freed, 72, of Norman Ridge, Big Bend, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at Louis Johnson Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Clarksburg, following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Frank and Bessie Holbert Freed. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a steelworker and truck driver. Surviving are his wife, Alma Nichalson Freed; one son, Kevin Thompson of Big Bend; one foster son, Ryan Copen of Big Bend; and four sisters, Ada Hosey of Big Bend, Evelyn Tingler of Grantsville, Vonetta Reese of Ohio and Irene Byrd of Alabama. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Freed, and one sister, Dolly Coe. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

FRIDLEY, EDITH C.

Edith Caroline Fridley, 94, of Parkview Health Care, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the nursing home. She was born in Freed, the daughter of the late Ansley Blair and Anna Snider Wilson. She was the oldest living member of St. John United Methodist Church, Vienna, and was a homemaker. Surviving are two sons, Ansley Clifford Fridley of Parkers-burg and Paul Allen Fridley of Little Hocking; two grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-great- grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Letha Deem of Vienna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin R. Fridley; four sisters; and two brothers. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Jim Yoak officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery South.

FRY, TINA MARIE

Tina Marie Conley Fry, 36, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of Kermit L. and Wanda Moore Conley of Parkersburg. She was a 1980 graduate of Parkersburg South High School. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband of 12 years, Perry Douglas Fry of Parkersburg; one son, Jesse James C. Fry of Parkersburg; one daughter, Ryannon Jane C. Fry of Parkersburg; one sister, Mamie Jane Conley of Athens, Ohio; and one aunt, Anna M. Gumm of Mt. Zion. She was preceded in death by one brother, David Lee Conley; maternal gransparents, Charles R. Moore and Mamie Moore Hardman; and paternal grandparents, Thomas L. and Mary L. Conley. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

GARRETT. JOHN GARRETT, JR.

John J. Garrett, Jr., 72, of Elana, Roane County, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, in Roane General Hospital, after a long illness. He was born in Spencer, the son of the late John J. and Lula Sarver Garrett, Sr. He was a retired construction worker, a U.S. Army veteran of orld War II, and a member of American Legion Post 21, Spencer, and Zion Hill Baptist Church, Elana. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Hunt Garrett, and one sister, Glenna Lynch of Arnoldsburg.He was preceded in death by one brother, Willard Garrett, and two sisters, Ruth Offutt and Audi Parsons. Services were held at Zion Hill cemetery, with Rev. J. Herbert Smith officiating.

GHERKE, ARDENE

Ardene L. Gherke, 65, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, following a long illness. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of Cleburn and Flava Kerby Gherke of Grants-ville. He was a former employee of Pennzoil Corp. and former Grantsville City Council-man. He was owner and operator of Garland's Grocery Co., Grantsville, for 31 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Grantsville where he served as deacon and was a past superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Gideons, Grantsville Lions Club, and Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, of Grantsville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Marjorie Gherke; one son, Ronald Gherke of Grantsville; six daughters, Patsy McCartney, Terry Blankenship, Deborah Richards, Carol Barr, Brenda Gherke and Janet Lewis, all of Grantsville; one brother, Eugene Gherke of Millsboro, Del.; five sisters, Pauline Vanhorn of Sissonville, Jurlene Thorn of Palestine, Radene Kuhl of Walker, Lorene Hathaway of Elkview and Arlene Smith of Williamstown; and 15 grandchildren. Services were held at First Baptist Church of Grantsville with Rev. Robert Nicholas, Rev. Mike Worf and Deacon Shirley Fitz-water officiating. Burial was in Collins Community cemetery, Stumptown.

GILLESPY, DOLLIE

Dollie Jane Gillespy, 76, of Vienna, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Richardson, the daughter of the late George and Opal Sturm Duskey. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She served for many years as a crossing guard in Vienna. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Whytsell of Parkersburg; one son, James George Gillespy of Vienna; one brother, George Duskey of Grantsville; five grandchildren; and five grd!t-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reitzel Knox "RIS" Gillespy, in 1989; one son, Jerry Dale Satterfield; and one brother, Jim Duskey. Services will be held Thursday, 8 p.m., at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Robert P. May, Sr., officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to Parkersburg Humane Society.

GLASER, ARELENE D.

Arelene Dawson Glaser, 78, of Columbus, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Calvin Charles and Rosa Bell McCray Dawson. She retired in 1987 from St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, where she had worked as an admitting clerk. She was a member of St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church of Columbus, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Ann Glaser, Rosa Lee Blakely and Mary Lou Glaser, all of Columbus, Ga.; two sons, Charles Robert Glaser of Wilson, N.C., and Byron Douglas Glaser of Columbus, Ga.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Glaser. Services were held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel, Columbus, Ga. Burial was in Parkhill cemetery.

GOODNIGHT, VIRGIE

Virgie Goodnight, 81, of Charlestown, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna, Ohio. She was born in Big Bend, the daughter of the late William and Sarah Hamrick. Surviving are one son, Woody of Ravenna; one daughter, Darlene Sams of Charlestown; two brothers, Charles Hamrick of Ravenna and Harold Hamrick of West Virginia; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow, in 1977. Services were held at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery, Ravenna.

GOODRICH, DALE

Dale Goodrich, 54, of Orma died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, and was a head sawyer and timberman. Surviving are three sons, Stacy and Tracy Goodrich, both of Kenna, and Jason Goodrich of Orma; two daughters, Kathy Summers of Orma and Lorna Clowser of Spencer; two brothers, Warder Goodrich and Dallas Goodrich, both of Normantown; two sisters, Jean Steele of Normantown and Bett Lamp of Barberton, Ohio; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. John Meadows officiating. Burial was in Collins Community cemetery, Stumptown.
