GREATHOUSE, ANNA

Anna Frances Greathouse, 61, of Chloe, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, in Roane General Hospital, following a long illness. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late William and Vena Jarvis Tanner. She was a homemaker. Surviving are three sons, Cama Greathouse, Kenneth Greathouse and William Greathouse, all of Chloe; two daughters, Debra Melrath of Chloe and Kathy Gross of Ohio; seven brothers, Shirley (Buck) Tanner of Mt. Zion, Jack Tanner of Ripley, Dwight Tanner, Alton Tanner and William Tanner, all of Chloe, and Gerory (Carroll) Tanner and Jeffrey Tanner, both of Ohio; six sisters, Donnle Moore of Reedy, Zelma Long of Ivydale, Helen McCune of Chloe, and Patricia Sue Armstead, Martha Bell and Hope Holliday, all of Rittman, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Graveside rites were held at Coen cemetery, Nebo.

GREATHOUSE, RALPH

Ralph Greathouse, 91, of Cortland, Ohio, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Trumbull Memorial Forum Hospital, Warren, Ohio. Surviving are one daughter, Mae Wanda Wayne of Arnoldsburg; two sons, Delford Greathouse of Orrville, Ohio, and Okie Greathouse of Cortland; one sister, Retha Lovett of Arizona; one half-brother; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer. Burial was in Otto cemetery near Spencer.

GREATHOUSE, SIMON F.

Simon F. Greathouse, 79, of Grantsville, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at his home. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late William and Lydia Shaffer Greathouse. He attended Cremo Community Church. Surviving is one brother, Burlin Greathouse of Alexandria City, Ala. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Oak, Willard, Ernest, Deacon and Thurman Greathouse, and four sisters, Mildred and Hettie Greathouse, Vivian Simmons and Gwendolyn Smith. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

GREEN, MILDRED 'CAROLE'

Mildred "Carole" Hovey Green, 57, of Simpsonville, S.C., formerly of Big Bend, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, in Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, S.C. She was born in Calhoun County. She was owner and operator of Carole's Day Care Center and was a Methodist. Surviving are one son, Joseph Edward Hovey of Simpsonville; two sisters, Doris Lanzo of Parma, Ohio, and JoAnn R. Dawson of Five Forks three brothers, Roger D. Richards, Robert E. Richards and Kenneth D. Richards, all of Simpsonville; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Norman Ridge Church, Big Bend. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Societ9.

GRIMM. ERNEST C.

Ernest C. "Ernie Grimm, 79, of Grand Bay, Ala., formerly of Creston, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanine Kelso and Beverly Johnson; one son, David C. Grimm; two step-sons; and two sisters, Irene Cain and Geraldine Cain. Services were held at Hill Grove Baptist Church, Sanoma Road, Wirt County.

GROGG, OSCAR 'FRED'

Oscar Freddie "Fred" Grogg, 57, of Belpre, Ohio, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Nobe, following a sudden illness. He was born in Revere, Gilmer County, a son of Amy Grogg of Vienna and the late Leamon Grogg. He was a U.S. Army veteran and owner of Fred Grogg Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Belpre, since 1974. He was a member of Calvary Community Church, Belpre. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Theda Roberts Grogg; one son, Oscar Grogg of Belpre; two daughters, Sheila Flick of London, Ohio, and Sherri Ogden of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; eight brothers, Donal, Jackie and Kenny Grogg, all of Glenville, Billy and Danny Grogg, both of Nobe, Rondel Grogg of Oberlin, Ohio, Leon Grogg of Parkersburg and Anthony Grogg of Elizabeth; seven sisters, Freda Amos of Vienna, Katheryn Phillips, Delores Davis and Connie Cogar, all of Parkersburg, Peggy Wade of Tanner, Dottie Frazier of Linn and Lena Ferguson of Salem, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kevin, Marshall and Steve Grogg. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas and Rev. Kenneth Fullerton officiating, with burial in Nobe cemetery, Nobe.

GROGG REVA I.

Reva I. Grogg, 78, of Glenville, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Stidd Amos. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Donald Grogg of Glenville; two sons, Toby Grogg of Glenville and Lonnie D. Grogg of Crestview, Fla.; one daughter, Karen Fay Chamblin of Belmont; five grand-children; one great-grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat- grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial was in Nobe cemetery.

GROGG, STEVEN P.

Steven P. Grogg, 51, of Cox's Mills, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, as a result of a 4-wheeler accident. He was born in Gilmer County, the son of Amy S. Grogg of Parkersburg and the late Leamon Grogg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and was owner and operator of Grogg's Kwick Stop Store, Cox's Mills. He was a former member of West Lafayette, Ohio, Fire Dept. Surviving are his wife, Dawn R. Grogg; one son, Steven P. Grogg, Jr., of Troy; one daughter, Stephanie P. Grogg of Ripley; two step- children, Carrey Coffman of Sutton and Gregory Coffman of Gassaway; nine brothers, Donal, Jackie and Kenny Grogg, all of Glenville, Billy and Danny Grogg, both of Nobe, Rondel Grogg of Oberlin, Ohio, Leon Grogg of Parkersburg, Oscar Grogg of Belpre, Ohio, and Anthony Grogg of Elizabeth; and seven sisters, Freda Amos of Vienna, Katheryn Phillips, Deloris Davis and Connie Cogar, all of Parkersburg, Peggy Wade of Tanner, Dottie Frazier of Linn and Lena Ferguson of Salem, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jody Lea Grogg; two brothers, Kevin and Marshall Grogg; and one step-son, Kevin Coffman. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Nobe cemetery, Nobe, with military graveside rites.

GROVES, THEODORE

Theodore Groves, 92, of Orma, died Tuesday, Mar. 31, 1998, in Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ivydale, following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Lee and Amanda Jane McCune Groves. Surviving are seven daughters, Margie Nichols and Virginia McCumbers, both of Orma, Jean Marks, Fae Norman and Emma Lucas, all of Philo, Ohio, Mae Lambert of Baltimore, Md., and Thelma Hall of Mt. Zion; three sons, James Groves of Orma, Joe Groves of Orrville, Ohio, and Smith Groves of Parkersburg; 34 grandchildren; 44 great- grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rogers Groves, in 1963, and two sons. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. D.L. Kirby officiating. Burial was in Rogers cemetery, Orma.

GUNN, FORREST

Forrest Gunn, 72, of Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at his home. He was born in Mt. Zion, the son of the late Poe and Lottie Gunn of Grantsville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served with the Pacific Fleet Camera Party as a photographer in World War II. He lived in Grantsville until 1964. He was employed for 20 years by the Small Business Administration as a business and industry specialist. Surviving are his wife, Joann; three daughters, Billie Gabriel and Susan Glass, both of Charlotte, and Charlotte Gunn of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Laura Lee Glass and Andrew Forrest Glass; one sister, Eloise Divers of Grantsville and one brother, Don Gunn of Mt. Zion. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dale Gunn of Grantsville.His wife reports that he was proud of his West Virginia heritage and that he was a Golden Horseshoe winner. He enjoyed the Chronicle and looked forward to it every week. As a young man, he worked folding the paper and spent time reading the old back issues. He had a natural curiosity about everything concerning Calhoun County and West Virginia history. Joann said, "He will be sadly missed by all of us who loved him. He was truly a unique and special man." Memorial service was held at Holy Comforter Church, Charlotte. Burial will be in Grantsville at a later date.

HADDOX, LORRAINE S.

Lorraine S. Haddox, 83, of Belleville, formerly of Big Springs, died Sunday, Mar. 15, 1998, at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division. She was born in Freed, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Effie L. Smith Morrison. She was a homemaker and a member of Five Forks Community Church. Surviving are her stepmother, Blondina Morrison of Summersville; two daughters, Janice Farren of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Alice Harold of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one son, Victor D. Haddox of Belleville; one sister, Lottie Moreland of Parkersburg; two brothers, J.P. Morrison of Big Springs and Jep Morrison of Parkersburg; one half-sister, Eloise Robinson of Summersville; 12 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Haddox in 1979; one daughter, Karen Sue Nichols in 1997; one grandchild; two sisters; and three brothers. Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Saunders cemetery near Big Springs. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.

HALL, JOSHUA M.

Joshua Michael Hall, 11, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Charleston Area Medical Center's General Division. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Danny Lee and Judith A. Greathouse Hall of Grantsville. He was a fifth grader at Pleasant Hill Elementary, Grantsville, and attended Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and outdoor sports. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one sister, Jessica Hall of Grantsville; maternal grandmother, Goldie Greathouse of Grantsville; paternal grandmother, Madge Nicholas of Duck; paternal grandfather, Roscoe Hall of Spencer; step-grandmother, Patty Hall of Spencer; and paternal great-grandparents, Brice and Nell DeWeese of Arnoldsburg. Services were held at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Worf and Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in St. Paul cemetery.

HALL, PEARL

Pearl Hall, 81, of Norton, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998. She was born in Arnoldsburg, the daughter of the late Charles and Almeda Jarvis Houchin. She had been a resident of Norton for 62 years and was residing at Pleasantview Nursing Home, Barberton, Ohio. Surviving are three sisters, Kathleen Sears of Norton, Ruby Smith of Orma and Jean Boggs of Big Springs; one brother, Rex Houchin of Minnora; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laco Woodrow Hall, and three brothers, Chester, Garrett and Harley Houchin. Services were held at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home, Doylestown, Ohio, with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Hill cemetery.
