HELMICK, CLYDE

Clyde Helmick, 85, of Nicut died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Pete and Mary Metz Helmick. He was a retired timberman and farmer, and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, Nicut. Surviving are one son, Eugene Helmick of Nicut; one daughter, Betty Bourne of Nicut; one sister, Maxine McCumbers of Windham, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estel Mae Helmick, and one son, William Harry Helmick. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Elder Charles Fisher officiating. Burial was in Metz cemetery, Nicut.

HELMICK, IVY

Ivy Helmick, 100, of Chloe, died Wednesday, Apr. 8, 1998, at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Albans, following a long illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Tom and Ruey Morris Postalwait. She was a member of Stinson Church of Christ and was a homemaker. Surviving are two daughters, Halcie Lamb of South Charleston and Maxine Witte of St. Albans; two sons, Forest (Junior) Deel of Mansfield, Ohio, and Mack Deel of Pineville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Okey Deel, her second husband, Blaine Helmick, and one great-grandson, Christopher Witte. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Evangelist Gene Miller and Evangelist Richard Vanhorn officiating. Burial was in Minnora cemetery.

HESS, DELMAR, JR.

Delmar F. Hess, Jr., 63, of Belpre, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Delmar F. and Florence Roby Hess, Sr. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School. He worked for United Parcel Service for 30 years, retiring in 1995, and was a member of Teamster Union Local #175, Parkersburg. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Barbara Hess; four sons, David Hess of Kokomo, Ind., Delmar Hess III of St. Cloud, Fla., and Robert Hess and Fran Law, both of Belpre; twn daughters, Becky Whitlatch of Belpre and Jeannie Pickens of Parkersburg; two brothers, Clyde Hess of Madison, Ohio, and Bob Hess of Geneva, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances A. Hess. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Brian Harrell officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

HILL, ALMA E.

Alma Evelyn Lynch Kerby Hill, 77, of Elder Care of Ripley, formerly of Spencer, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Julie Marsh Lynch. She was retired from Spencer State Hospital and was a homemaker. She was a Christian. Surviving are one daughter, Rose Holt of Knottsville, Tenn.; six sons, James Kerby of Plainfield, Ind., Rev. Benjamin R. Kerby, Sr. of Millstone, Holly Kerby of Evans, Woodrow Kerby, Jr., of Knottsville, Donald A. Kerby of Newport N.C., and Richard A. Kerby of Noblesville, Ind.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Hill; two sisters; and four brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Benjamin Kerby, Sr., officiating. Burial was in Gibson cemetery near Arnoldsburg.

HINZMAN, KATHY LEE

Kathy Lee Hinzman, 49, of Tanner, deied Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at her home. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Darwin and Lois Riddle Hinzman. She was employed at Bureau of Public Debt, Parkersburg, and attended Tanner Chapel Church. Surviving are one brother, Kyle Hinzman of Tanner, one niece, Lynda Hinzman of Five Forks; and one nephew, Charles Hinzman of Five Forks. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kent B. Hinzman. Services were held at Tanner Chapel Church, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in New Mt. Olive cemetery, Burnt House.

HOLSTINE, BEULAH

Beulah Holstine, 87, of Harrisville, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in Marietta, Ohio. She was born in Big Springs, a daughter of the late Albert and Masel O'Neal Stahlman. Surviving is one son, Delmas C. Holstine of Harrisville. Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Calvary Church, Harrisville, with burial in Broomstick cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

HUGHES, CLYDE

Clyde Hughes, 78, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Saturday, Apr. 11, 1998, in St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Petersburg, after a short illness. He was born in Athen, Tenn., a son of the late Philamon and Nellie Stanton Hughes. He was retired from B.F. Goodrich, Akron, Ohio, with 38 1/2 years of service. He was a 38-year member of Calvary Baptist Church, Akron. He had resided in St. Petersburg for six years. Surviving are his wife, Jean Keaton Hughes; one daughter, Eppie Greene of St. Petersburg; one brother, Dorton Hughes of Akron; one sister, Vesta Martin of Athens; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Hughes; two brothers, Arvil Hughes and Clifford Hughes; and two sisters, Della Fortner and Effie Roberts. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Michael E. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Prudence Chapel cemetery, Minnora. Visitation is at the funeral home one hour before the funeral.

HUNT, AMANDA LEANN

Amanda Leann Hunt, 17, of Spencer, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Charleston Area Medical Center from injuries received in an ATV accident. She was born in Jackson County and was a student at Calhoun County High School. She enjoyed nurses aide work and was a Protestant. She was a former employee of Valley View Berries, Arnoldsburg. Surviving are her mother and step-father, Becky Dye and Billy D. King of Leatherbark; father and step-mother, Richard Lee and Leigh Hunt of Evans; maternal grandmother, Mina Rhodes of Charleston; two sisters, Kathy Sue Hunt of Kentuck and Rhonda Kay Hively of Elizabeth; four brothers, Elmer Brian of Ripley, Kenny Lee of Kentuck, Kevin Wayne of Hartville, Ohio, and Richard Lee "Bub" of Denmar; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery, near Arnoldsburg.

HUSK, GOLDIE

Goldie Cline Husk, 69, died Saturday, Apr. 4, 1998, at her home in Barberton, Ohio. She was born on the Lower West Fork in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Herman and Nellie Connolly DeWeese. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Legg of Florida and Debra Graves of Canal Fulton; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orville (Jennings) and Gilbert DeWeese (since deceased); and two sisters, Geneva Lockhart and Garnet DeWeese. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Husk, and two sons, James L. and Lewis E. Cline. Services were held at Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert L. Webb officiating. Burial was in John Wright cemetery, Cremo.

HUSK, LENNIE L.

Lennie L. Husk, 86, of Grantsville, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Miletree Nursing Home, Spencer. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Jesse W. and Alice Craddock Husk. He was a former employee of Cabot Corp. Surviving are one brother, Grant Husk of Grantsville; one sister-in- law, Geneva Husk of Grantsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, five brothers, and a close friend, Etta Stump. Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. William Villers officiating, and burial in St. Paul cemetery, Mt. Zion. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday.

JARVIS, DON C.

Don C. Jarvis, 86, of Madison died Wednesday, Apr. 29, 1998, at home after a long illness. He was born in Minnora. He was self-employed for Jarvis Radio and Television Repair, Madison. He retired in 1986 as manager of Bettervision Cable System with 10 years of service. He was a member of Madison United Methodist Church, Madison Rotary Club, Boone IOOF Lodge 170, VFW Post 5578, and Charleston Ostomy Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are one son, Steve of Houston; two daughters, Helen Haner of Circleville, Ohio, and Marion Mullins of Atlanta; three brothers, Clair Jarvis of Charleston, Glenn Jarvis of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ralph Jarvis of St. Albans; four sisters, Kathryn Curry of Hamlin, Ruth Mollohan of Dunbar, Wilma Stump of Grantsville and Anna Waugh of Boomer; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step- grand-children. Services were held at Madison U.M. Church with Rev. Thomas McDowell officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens, Madison, with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5578.

JARVIS, ERNEST REX

Ernest Rex Jarvis, 61, of Uniontown, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, of cancer. He was born in Oka, the son of the late Thomas Rex Jarvis and Samantha Carpenter Jarvis, grandson of Dock and Effie Jarvis, and great-grandson of Thomas P. and Labana Jane "Mammy Jane" Jarvis, all of Oka. He married Charlene Smith in 1959 at the home of Rev. P.D. Simmons. He had worked in heavy construction in Ohio, building, painting and repairing bridges since the early 1960's, except for a short period in Atlanta, Ga. Surviving are two sons, Jeff and John, both of Uniontown; three grandchildren; four brothers, Doyal Dwayne Jarvis of Grafton, Ohio, Kenneth Paul Jarvis, Bobby Jarvis and Thomas Dewey Jarvis of Spencer; two sisters, Hazel Hood of Walton and Lula Belle of Akron, Ohio; one half-brother, Adra Lynn Jarvis of Ft. Myers, Fla., and one half- sister, Lucille Cobb of Washington. He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Melvin Rex Jarvis. Services were conducted by Hecker Funeral Home, Uniontown. Burial was in Uniontown Greenlawn cemetery.

JARVIS, HARTSEL

Hartsel H. Jarvis, 84, of Parkersburg died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at Sunrise Health Care Center, Parkersburg. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Matt and Maude Meadows Jarvis. He was Protestant and a retired construction sheet metal worker. Surviving are six sons, Gary E. Jarvis and Wayne R. Jarvis, both of Vienna, Mike Jarvis of Coolville, Jack L. Jarvis of Williamstown, Bill R. Jarvis of Parkersburg and R. Alan Dudley of Macon, Ga.; five daughters, Pam S. Jarvis of Waverly, Sandra Ragsdale of Macon; Linda Ellison of Parkersburg, Betty J. Sayre of Vienna and Becky A. Anderson of Williamstown; 22 grand-children; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Fluharty of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avanell Kesterson Jarvis; two brothers, Donald Jarvis and Rex Jarvis; and two sisters Macel Riel and Chloe Dye. Services were held at Kimes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Clyde Brammer and Pastor Tom Hall officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.
