MURPHY, JARRIET "JACK"

Jarriet "Jack" Murphy, 64, of Akron, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998.He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Arthur and Flona Murphy. He retired from B&W as a tool applicator after 35 years service. He was a member of Akron Baptist Temple and National Lodge 568, AF&AM. Surviving are his wife, Goldie; one daughter, Sallie Wolfe of Kernersville, N.C.; one granddaughter, Patti Blackburn of Wilmington, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Cassandra; one brother, Ralph Murphy of Norton, Ohio; one sister, Dorma Cooper of Norton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Garrison Murphy. Services were held at Akron Ba tist Temple, with Rev. Howard Powell officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

NEWTON, Z. DORIS

Z. Doris Newton, 85, of Leetonia, Ohio, formerly of Belpre, Ohio, died Monday, Apr. 20, 1998, in Salem, Ohio. She was born in Annamoriah, a daughter of the late William and Daisy Stutler Beall. Surviving are one daughter, two sons, two sisters, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.

NICHOLSON, DELBERT L.

Delbert Lewis Nicholson, 75, of Sand Ridge, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Copen, Braxton County, a son of the late Doesey and Bertha Steel Nicholson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former employee of Grafton Foundry, Grafton, Ohio. He was a stockman and a farmer. He was a member of Orma United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Clara B. Runyon Nicholson of Sand Ridge; five daughters, Barbara Sue Reinard of Woodsbridge, Va., Sandra Mae Hess and Rebecca Lynne Hess, both of Glenville, Donna Faye Nicholson of West Virginia and Dolly Jean Hickman of Grantsville; three sons, Delbert Junior Nicholson and Leonard Dewayne Nicholson, both of Grantsville, and Timothy Lewis Nicholson of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters; two brothers; 17 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 10 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Kevin Church officiating. Burial will be in Orma United Methodist Church cemetery, with military rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419. Visitation was scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

NITZ, WILLIAM FOSTER

William Foster Nitz, 85, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Arnoldsburg, a son of the late Dee and Mary Goff Nitz. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific on the USS Mazama. He retired from Dils Brothers Dept. Store after 32 years of service and was a 44- year member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are his friend and caregiver, Golda Preston of Parkersburg; and two sisters, Zelma Barker of Fultonham, Ohio, and Meryl Price of Arnoldsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Husk Nitz; one daughter, Lora Marzetta Park; five brothers, Ivy, Greely, Otis, Carl and Fenton Nitz; one sister, Freda Sauer; and one granddaughter, Jenifer Park. Services were held at Ogdin-Kimes Funeral Home, Parkers-burg, with Rev. Lindsay Thorp officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

NORMAN, DELMER L.

Delmer L. Norman, 69, of Normantown, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. He was born in Shock, a son of the late Foster and Autie Groves Norman. He was valedictorian of Normantown High School Class of 1948 and attended Glenville State College. He retired from Koppers Corp. in 1990 with 39 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Normantown, having served as a trustee. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #24, AF&AM, of Grantsville, Gilmer County Republicans, and Friends of Gilmer Public Library. Surviving are his wife of eight years, Doris Gerwig Norman; one daughter, Lori Frame of Troy; seven stepdaughters, Tonya Newman of Madison Heights, Va., Jane Howard and Beverly White, both of Lagrange, Ohio, Margaret Maurer of Grafton, Ohio, Ruth Ann Miller of Gassaway, Debi Jenkins of Glenville and Marlene Reisinger of Medina, Ohio; two stepsons, James Wilmoth of Wellington, Ohio, and Brian Wilmoth of Spencer, Ohio; one brother, Randolph Norman of Rayland, Ohio; three sisters, Mavis Miller of Shock, Hazel Griffin of Alta Loma, Tex., and Etta Miller of Ravenswood; three granddaughters; 35 stepgrandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Services were held at Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville, with Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery.

PARKS, LETHA T.

Letha T. Parks, 87, of Spencer, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at her residence. Surviving are her husband, Lester Parks; one daughter, Virginia Crislip of Laurel, Md.; two grandchildren, Charlotte Rider of Joker and Connie Reza of Greensboro, Md.; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Spencer Memorial cemetery.

PEPPER, WILLIAM P.

William P. (Red) Pepper, 69, of Macfarlan, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, while deer hunting in Ritchie County. He was born at Brohard, the son of the late Roy C. and Sarah Jane Lynch Pepper. He was a retired block layer and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and harvesting yellow root and ginseng. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Jean Hepner Pepper; two sons, Ronnie Pepper and Terry Pepper, both of Petroleum; one daughter, Sharon Tingler of Parkersburg; one brother, Roy E. Pepper of Frostburg, Md.; one sister, Delma M. Grim of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Jane Pepper; three brothers, Dale Pepper, Harry Pepper and Don Pepper; and two sisters, Bernadine Reed and Kathryn Smith. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Gladson Grim officiating and military honors by American Legion Post #55, Elizabeth.

PHILLIPS, ELDRIDGE, JR.

Eldridge Phillips, Jr., 54, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at CAMC-Memorial Division, Charleston, following a brief illness. He was born in Upshire, the son of the late Eldridge and Beulah Phillips. He was a carryout at Grantsville Foodland. Surviving are his wife, Lenn Phillips of Grantsville; and a daughter, Debby Parsons, and grandson, Cody Parsons, both of Five Forks. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Bob Nichols officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

POLING, VIRGINIA D.

Virginia D. Poling, 64, of Millstone died Friday, March 27, 1998, at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness. She was born in Roane County, the daughter of Rosie Fall Hicks of Arnoldsburg and the late Earl Hicks. She was a homemaker. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Junior Cleo Poling of Millstone and one daughter, Carolyn Cain of Millstone. Two sons, Timothy Cleo and Richard Lee Poling, both of Millstone; five grandchildren; three brothers, Darius Hicks of Arnoldsburg, Dayton Hicks of Orma and James Hicks of Mt. Zion; two sisters, Leota Linehan of Neward, Ohio and Mary Groves of Lockney. She was preceeded in death by a sister, Bevis Thomas and two brothers, Ronnie and Woody Hicks. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in the Poline-Marks cemetery near Millstone.

POSTALWAIT, CAROLYN

Carolyn J. Postalwait, 54, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Sept. 19, at Greenbrier Medical Center, Fairlea, following a sudden illness. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Opal G. Hayhurst McCartney of Grantsville and the late Orlen D. McCartney. She was a 1964 graduate of Calhoun County High School. She moved to Warren, Ohio, with her husband in 1965 where she practiced real estate for 15 years with Century 21 before they returned to Calhoun County. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Richard B. Postalwait; two sons, Richard G. Postalwait and Kevin B. Postalwait, both of Grantsville; one brother, Oren Gerald McCartney of Grantsville; and two sisters, Virginia Erlewine of Grantsville and Patricia Bollinger of Asbury. Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery, Mt. Zion. Visitation was scheduled at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday.

PRICE, ODUS C.

Odus C. Price, 73, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in Barberton, Ohio. He was born in Russett, the son of the late Louisa Bailey and Coy C. Price. He lived most of his life in Barberton. He was a World War II Navy veteran and active member of L.S.T. Organization and Sherman Church of Christ. He retired from Ohio Brass with 38 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Paula Mae Boatright Price; two sons, Gary Price and Jim Price; five grandchildren, Jamie, Ryan, Tara and Jackie Price and Dani Murphy; one great-grandchild, Cody Murphy; one brother, Don Price; two sisters, Ruth Spencer and Helen Ward; and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Harley and Bill Price. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, Akron, Ohio, with military graveside services conducted by Barberton VFW Post 1066.

PRUNTY, RUTH

Ruth Wilson Prunty, 91, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, Apr. 26, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Charles and Etta Jane Ferrell Hosey. Surviving are two daughters, Etta Ferrell and Lorene Kemper, both of Parkersburg; two brothers, Ernest Hosey and Shirl Hosey, both of Grantsville; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Romeo Hosey, Hale Hosey and Wade Hosey; one sister, Retta Hosey; first husband, Lawrence Wilson; second husband, Gayle Prunty; and one son, Dwayne Wilson. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with burial in Sunset Memory Gardens.

RAMSELL, THOMAS R.

Thomas R. (Snuffy) Ramsell, 65, of Spencer, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in Selby General Hospital, Marietta, Ohio. He was born at Johnstown, Pa., a son of the late John and Nellie L. Trumper Ramsell. He was a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight, Detroit, Mich., and a former substitute bus driver for Calhoun County Board of Education. He was a 34-year member of Teamster's Union, Local 299, Detroit, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was a member of H.O.G., Milwaukee, Wisc., and was an avid outdoor sportsman. Surviving are his wife, Donna C. Ramsell of Spencer; three sons, Kevin A. Railey of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Tommy Ramsell and Tim Ramsell, both of Mantua, Ohio; four daughters, Amanda L. Rishky of Ephrata, Wash., Holly A. Railey of Lemon Grove, Calif., and Diane Lough and Margaret Ziegler, both of Mantua; one sister, Elsie Nord of Lorain, Ohio; seven grand-children; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Ramsell, John Henry Ramsell and Albert Ramsell; and one sister, Dorothy Josephson. Services were held at Egypt Ridge Chapel, Spencer, with Rev. John W. Lowe officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was held in Egypt cemetery, Spencer.
