Mary M. Stump, 92, of Stumptown, died Monday, July 13, 1998, in Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, following a long illness. She was born in Stumptown, the daughter of the late Frank and Emily Gherke Stump. She was a former housekeeper for Rainbow Hotel, Grantsville, and was a member of Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgie McCartney, Martha Vannoy and Stella Mace Hardman. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating. Burial was in Sylvester Stump cemetery, Stumptown.
SULLIVAN, VIRGINIA N.
Virginia N. Sullivan, 80, of Vienna, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Normantown, the daughter of the late E.D. and Ethel Radabaugh Norman. She was a school teacher in Calhoun and Wood counties for 371/2 years. She was a member of Wayside United Methodist Church and Parkersburg Country Club, and volunteered for American Red Cross, Parkersburg Art Center and Local Literacy Program. She was a long-time member of Vienna Public Library Board. Surviving are one son, Larry Sullivan; one granddaughter, Rachel Sulliivan; two sisters, Mary Norman and Ruby Black; and one brother, Karl Norman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas E. Sullivan, and four brothers and sisters. Services were held at Wayside U.M. Church, with Rev. Joseph Kenaston officiating. Private burial service was in Evergreen North cemetery.

Roy H. Sutton, 57, of Creston died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, following a sudden illness. He was born in Axson, Ga., the son of the late Johnny and Armenda Morgan Sutton. He was employed by Miller Pallet and Lumber Co., Creston, and was an avid hunter. Surviving are his wife, Linda Hoover Sutton; one daughter, Patricia Rickels of Deleon Springs, Fla.; one son, Jimmy Sutton of Florida; three brothers, John Sutton of Deland, Fla., Bud Sutton of Umatilla, Fla., and Archie Sutton of Hampton, S.C.; five sisters, Lee Crumbley of Maynor, Ga., Lou Harrington of Valdosta, Ga., Pearlie Yeager of Alabama, Opal Peterson of Douglas, Ga., and Faye Higgs of Atlanta, Ga.; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Axson Church of God-Prophesy, Axson. Burial was in Axson cemetery.

Edith E. Swisher, 85, of Arcadia, Fla., formerly of Parkersburg, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, in Arcadia. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Sylvanus "Van" and Cora Burrows Richards. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. Surviving are three daughters, Winona Seaman of Parkersburg, Sybil Gianguzzo of Arcadia, Fla., with whom she made her home, and Annette Macecvic of Rocky River, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Earl Swisher; one brother, Walter Richards; and five sisters, Barbara Caplinger, Leatha Barton, Myrtle Rollins, Iona Wagoner and Flota Richards. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Earl Perkins officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery North.

David A. Taylor, 17, of Stout's Mill, died Friday, July 17, 1998, in an automobile accident near Glenville. Surviving are his parents, Brenda K. Taylor of Stout's Mill and David Lee Taylor of Indianapolis Ind.; one brother, Andrew Taylor of Stout's Mill; one sister, Tina Taylor of Stout's Mill; maternal grandparents, Erwin and Cleo Yeager of Troy; and paternal grandmother, Hilda Stanley of Indianapolis. Joint funeral services were held (for he and Steven Marsh Yeager) at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Yeager Family cemetery, Stout's Mill.

Charles M. Thomas, Jr., 75, of Millstone, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Hampsfield, Pa., a son of the late Charles M. and Violet A. Tinsley Thomas, Sr. He was a retired self-employed contractor. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Marks Thomas; six daughters, Sandra Ferrebee of Spencer, Peggy Brodeur of Apopka, Fla., Cheryl Thomas, address unknown, Betty Boothe of Grantsville, Kathie Starcher of Pathfork, Ky., and Charlotte Horn of Ashland, Ky.; four sons, Edward Thomas of Leesburg, Fla., William Thomas of Apopka, Rick Thomas of Millstone and Allen Thomas of Stumptown; one sister, Hazel Hall of Camden, S.C.; two brothers, Daryl Thomas and Robert Thomas, both of Greensburg, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles M. Thomas III. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Metz cemetery near Sand Ridge.

Elva Virginia Richards Thomas, 83, of Lowell, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Selby General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Charles and Laura Arthur Richards. She was a beautician for 45 years and attended First Day Adventist Church. Surviving are one sister, Golda Swires of Akron; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomas; and three sisters, Martha Snyder, Zelma Simonton and Floda Duskey. Services were held at Franklin Funeral Chapel, Parkersburg, with Elder Clair Ruble officiating. Burial was in Cooper cemetery.

Mattie D. Thompson, 88, of Akron, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998. She wes born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Lorenza Thomas and Dora G. Stump. She was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for many years. Surviving are one brother, Waitman H. Stump of Akron, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; sisters, Lorenia Kelly, Arldia Kelly and Dorfetta Hathaway; and brother, Jesse Stump. At Mattie's request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place in St. Paul cemetery, Pine Creek, at the convenience of the family.
TOEPFER, JEAN
Jean Toepfer, 90 of Boca Raton, fla., died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Regents Park Rehabilitation Center, Boca Raton. She was born in Rodman, Iowa, and graduated from Rodman High School. She continued her education at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, where she met her husband. She earned a degree in education and taught for one year in Aurelia, Iowa. She married
Dr. Howard C. Toepfer in 1934 and relocated to Grantsville where "Doc" practiced medicine until 1967. Surviving are one son, Charles Toepfer of Boca Raton; daughter-in- law, Yvette Toepfer of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and evon of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Reise of Pompano Beach; and two nieces in Iowa and California. She was preceded in death by her husband, and one daughter, Emily, in 1962. Services were arranged by Kraeer Funeral Home, Boca Raton.

Mary Virginia Toole, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at Rittman Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rittman, Ohio. She was born in Calhoun County, and lived in the Rittman/Sterling area since 1957. Surviving are five sons, Ernest Kerby of Rittman, William Kerby of Seville, Ohio, Charles Kerby of San Antonio, Tex., Clyde Kerby of Mansfield, Ohio, and Paul Kerby of Pekin, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Connolly of Davisville; and four sisters, Mabel Bennett, Elva Duskey and Grace Nichols, all of Grantsville, and Frankie Mowrey of Creston. Services were held at Gillman Funeral Home, Rittman, with Rev. Wesley Ball officiating. Burial was in Rittman cemetery.

Gene Tucker, 76, of Reedy, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Roane General Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born in Milo, a son of the late Everett and Hallie Jarvis Tucker. He was a self-employed oil and gas producer and a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Oma June Hicks Tucker; one son, Larry D. Tucker of Reedy; one brother, Lloyd Tucker of Mesa, Ariz.; and one grandson, David Neil Tucker of Reedy. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gene Tucker, Jr. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor John Ellison and Rev. Fred Basnett officiating, with burial in Prudence Chapel cemetery, Minnora.

Anna Mae Tuttle, 91, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Miletree Nursing Home, Spencer, folowing an extended illness. She was born in Arnoldsburg, a daughter of the late French and Essie Lockney King. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church near Grantsville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are one brother-in-law, Clay Sturm, Jr., and his wife; Waneta, who cared for her, of Grantsville; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Marks of Baltimore, Md., and Virginia Snow of Mt. Airy, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Foster Tuttle, in 1989, and an infant daughter. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Mt Zion cemetery, Mt. Zion.
VANNOY, ROBERT W.
Robert W. Vannoy, 47, of Mineral Wells, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Darrell J. Vannoy and Anna Elizabeth Rosenfelt Vannoy. He was a life member of Mineral Wells VFW Post 5575, a 20-year member of National Guard Post 10, 92nd Engineering Battalion, and a Vietnam veteran. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Sharon Little Vannoy; one daughter, Sheila Travis of Mineral Wells; one son, Matt Vannoy of Mineral Wells; one brother, David Vannoy of Mt. Zion; one sister, Rebecca Vannoy of Parkersburg; and one grandson, Kennedy Travis of Mineral Wells. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Jack Harris and Chaplain Bruce Reed officiating. Burial was in Collins Community cemetery, Stumptown, with military rites by National Guard Unit 10, 92nd Engineering Battalion.
VILLERS, EMMA G.
Emma G. Villers, 103, of Elizabeth, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at her residence. She was born in Arnoldsburg, the daughter of the late Pulaskia and Hopie Morgan Whytsell. She was Wirt County's oldest resident. She owned and operated Villers Personal Care Home, Elizabeth, for more than 50 years. She also owned and operated Lockney Boarding House in Gilmer County for many years. She was a long time member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, farm life, and pets. Surviving are one son, Harold D. Villers of Elizabeth; two daughters, June (Dolly) Roberts of Parkersburg and Gertrude Robey of Vienna; two grandsons whom she raised, Robert Villers of Elizabeth and Tom Villers of Branson, Missouri; one half sister, Olive Snider of Canton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grand-children; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Villers, in 1980; five sons, Ernest Villers, Russell Villers, Eugene Villers, John (Dick) Villers, Jr., and Earl (Bert) Villers; one daughter, Geraldine Villers; one grandson whom she raised, Ernest (Buddy) Villers; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark McCloy and Rev. Lewis Villers officiating, and burial in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, is after 9 a.m., Thursday, and 9 to 11 a.m., Friday, and at the church, 1 to 2 p.m., Friday.
