Wilford L. "Bo Bo" Wagoner, 56, of Big Springs, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Emma Taylor Wagoner of Big Springs and the late Delmas G. Wagoner. He was a former employee of Cain Oil and Gas of Big Bend and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Leigh C. Woodyard Wagoner; one daughter, Kimberly Godfrey of Grants-ville; two sons, Steve Wagoner and Kevin Wagoner, both of Big Springs; four sisters, Jane McClung of MacFarland, Patricia Starcher of Five Forks, Charlotte VanCamp of Big Springs and Judy Heinly of Big Bend; eight brothers, Rev. Robert Wagoner, Raymond Wagoner, Ronzel Wagoner, Charlie Wagoner and Jeffrey Wagoner, all of Big Springs, Curtis Wagoner of Cleveland, Bradley Wagoner of Harlen, Ga., and Evangelist Harvey Wagoner of Pleasant Hill; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Freddie Glen Wagoner, and one sister, Pamela Wagoner. Services were held at Full Gospel Church, Big Springs, with Rev. James Sollars officiating. Burial was in Taylor cemetery near Big Bend.
WARD, MELVIN O.
Melvin O. (Jupie) Ward, 50, of Elizabeth, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born in Grantsville, the son of Leona Cowan Ward of Grantsville and the late A.I. Ward. He was a 1967 graduate of Calhoun County High School and a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam era. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic by Bosley Construction Co. and was a former employee of Criss Concrete. He was Camp Ranger at Camp Kootaga for the Boy Scouts of America for several years and was active in numerous scout functions. He was a member of American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg, and Elizabeth United Methodist Church.Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Lori Butcher Ward; three sons, Toby and wife Leslie Ward of Parkersburg, Jason Ward, a student at Glenville State College, and Brian Ward of Elizabeth; two brothers, Jack Cowan of Vincent, Ohio, and Gale Ward of Elizabeth; three sisters, Virginia Bush of Petroleum, Linda Sampson of St. Marys, and Brenda Golden of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews.Services were held at Elizabeth U.M. Church, with Rev. Paul G. Rebelo officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth, with military honors.

Willie "Bill" Watkins, 70, of Chloe, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Chloe, a son of the late Leslie and Susie Metheney Watkins. He was a farmer and a member of Walnut Methodist Church, near Chloe. Surviving are his wife, Rhea Cooper Watkins of Chloe; three sisters, Marie Frame of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Wilma Cooper of Akron and Dora Oldaker of Oceanside, Calif; one brother, Ray Watkins of Akron; two foster children, William Watkins and Kathy Wallbrown, both of Chloe; and five foster grandchildren. Monty Keith "Barney" Watson, 34, of Elizabeth, died Thursday, Jan 22, 1998, at Selby General Hospital, Marietta. He was born in Wood County, a son of Carlos E. "Mick" Watson of Elizabeth and the late Betty Jane Monroe Watson. He was a self- employed carpenter and a member of Two Ripple Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his father, are one daughter, Taylor Watson of Elizabeth; one brother, Brian Shane Watson of Lubeck; three sisters, Carla Ashley of Arnoldsburg, and Beth Watson and Melissa Villers, both of Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews. Ercel Wayne, 80, of Spencer, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, in Roane General Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Benjamin F. and Mary Parsons Wayne. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Apostolic Faith Chapel, Spencer. Surviving are his wife, Beulah Mercer Wayne, two step-daughters, Carolyn Persinger of Oakland, Md., and Patsy Carter of Spencer; six step-sons, Ted Zehm of Ravenswood, John Zehm of Beaufort, S.C., Robert Zehm of Rogers, Ark., Larry Zehm of Beverly Hills, Fla., Walter Cottrell of Parkersburg and Roger Cottrell of Spencer; one brother, Joseph Wayne of Akron, Ohio; 22 step-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren. Lear Wears, 72, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Sunday, Mar. 1, 1998, at Providence Hospital, Sandusky, Ohio. She was born in Beech, a daughter of the late Roy and Martha Jane Lowers Butler. She was a retired homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Everett Wears of Port Clinton; three daughters, Barbara Wicker of Sandusky and Connie Craw-ford and Sheri Hurst, both of Port Clinton; two sons, Mike Wears of Port Clinton and Bill Butler of West Virginia; 23 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Butler of Spencer and Donzel Butler of Beech; five sisters, Laura Webb and Georgia Akinson, both of Spencer, Rushie Oglesbee of Sandusky and Virginia Parsons and Stella Hall, both of Parkersburg; and several cousins in the Calhoun area. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Wears; one daughter, Laura Wears; three brothers, Ray Brannon, Dolpha Butler and Nelson Butler; and two sisters, Gae Smith and Genevieve Butler. Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Gerner-Wolf-Kopchak Funeral Home, Port Clinton, with Rev. Duane A. Wrye officiating, and burial in Riverview cemetery. Visitation was scheduled 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Johnny J. Weaver, 78, of Nobe, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late John Gideon and Delphia Lockard Weaver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are three sisters, Mae Jennings and Ova Bragg, both of Nobe, and Mary M. Yoak of Five Forks; and one brother, Bernard Weaver of Nobe. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ava Naylor. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty cemetery, Tanner.

Opal Weaver, 79, of Canton, Ohio, formerly of Sand Ridge, died Saturday, Mar. 21, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Canton, Ohio. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Nettie Jarvis Greathouse. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two sons, Ronald L. Arnold of Canton and Larry Arnold of Little Hocking, Ohio; one daughter, Joy Shock of Walterboro, S.C.; one sister, Beulah Carpenter of Newark, Ohio; one step-daughter, Sharon Lowery of Parkersburg; one step-son, Larry Weaver of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Webster; three brothers, Jim, George and Homer Parsons; and one sister, Mary Godfrey. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Leola Nelle "Nin" Welsh, 86, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was born in Five Forks, the daughter of the late John and Beulah Metz Whipkey. She owned Welsh's Diner, Grantsville, worked as a cook in the Calhoun County school system and in the Foster Grandparent Program at Pleasant Hill School. She attended Five Forks Community Church and Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Marva Barker of Grantsville and Leona Boggs of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Guy F. Boggs, Jr., of Vienna, Myra Boggs West of Parkersburg, Doug Boggs of Five Forks and Billy "Biff" Barker of Grantsville; six great-grandchildren, Amber, Nathan and Brianna Boggs of Vienna, Kirk Stump of Parkersburg, and Misty and Kayla Boggs of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Clarence" Welsh, in 1972; three brothers, Ralph Whipkey, Brady Whipkey and Johnny Whipkey; and three sisters, Hope Kawalski, Geraldine White and Hila Collins Barr.
