CUNNINGHAM, JOHN L.

John L. "Junior" Cunningham, 62, of Newark, died Wednes-day, July 16, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Leman Cunningham and Allie Cunningham Craddock. He was an ordained minister and a wood crafter. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Lou Lott Cunningham; four sons, John Ray Cunningham of Parkersburg, Scott Lockhart of Palestine, and Randy Lockhart and Stanley Lockhart of Elizabeth; two daughters, Connie Hubbard of Waterford and Jennifer Miller of Parkersburg; two brothers, Lester Cunningham of Mt. Zion and Bill Cunningham of Glenville; one sister, Lucille Cunningham of Glenville; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Lockhart; one brother, Chester Cunningham; and two sisters, Geraldine Sampson and Lizzie Kellar. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Evangelist Eugene L. Conger officiating.

CUNNINGHAM, ROY R.

Roy R. "Red" Cunningham, 91, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Worthington Manor Care Center. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Van Sanford and Laura Francis Ferrell Cunningham. He was a self-employed carpenter and bricklayer, and was a member of Lubeck Church of Christ. Surviving are five daughters, Barbara Kirl of Walker, Dora Jean Rake of Indiana, Maybell Meeks of Vienna, Naomi Meridith of Ohio and Lillian McCary of Florida; five sons, Roy Cunning-ham and Tom Hall, both of Parkersburg, Delbert Hall of Little Hocking, Earl Hall of New York and Floyd Hudson of Sandyville; one sister, Madge Huber of Florida; 35 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Cunning-ham; his second wife, Roma Cunningham; two sons, William Hall and Norman Hudson; three brothers, William Cunningham, Cecil Cunningham and Roam Cunningham; and two sisters, Blanche Cunningham and Bessie Figg. Services were held at Vaughan Funeral Home with Evangelist David Newberry officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

DAVIS, EDWARD E.

Edward E. Davis, 78, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Calhoun County, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997, at Plantation Bay Rehabilita-tion Center, St. Cloud, Fla. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Jessie H. and Lulu M. Smith Davis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a self-employed painting contractor. Surviving are his wife, Genevieve K. Vannoy Davis; one daughter, Jewell A. Starling of Orlando; one son, Rev. Dan K. Davis of Americus, Ga.; two sisters, Violet Harbert of Ontario, Canada, and Virginia Hathaway of Spencer; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Davis. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dan K. Davis officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge cemetery.

DAWSON, ALEX M.

Alex Mackenzie Dawson, two-day-old infant son of Larry Allen and Patinna Kirby Dawson of Five Forks, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at Women and Children's Hospital, Charleston. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one brother, Kenneth D. Dawson of Five Forks; paternal grandparents, Larry and Joan Dawson of Five Forks; maternal grandparents, Buck and Margaret Kirby of Big Springs; paternal great-grandparents, Verlin and Arvilla Millican of Big Springs and Della Dawson of Big Springs; and maternal great- grandmother, Lola Kirby of Big Springs. Graveside services were held at Fluharty cemetery, Big Springs, with Rev. Dallas Smith officiating.

DAWSON, LILLIAN MAE

Lillian Mae Dawson of Lithia Springs, Ga., died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Geha-Tuma. Surviving are her husband, Donald C. Dawson; one daughter, Sharon; four sons, Donald (Joe), Michael, Jeffrey and Gary; daughter-in-law, Nancy Perkins Dawson; four grandchildren, John, Lindy, D.J. and Cynthia; one brother, Joseph, Sr.; one sister, Yvonne Tuma; and several relatives in Calhoun County. Services were held at Mallchok Funeral Home, Parma, Ohio. Burial was in Holy Spirit cemetery, Parastas, Ohio.

DENNISON, JOHNNIE L.

Johnnie L. Dennison, 59, of Glenville, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of Hertha Nicholson Dennison and the late Richard Dennison. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as superintendent and board member. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Betty Singleton Dennison; seven sons, Floyd Dennison of Burnsville, Joe Dennison, John Miller, Timmy Miller, Matt Miller and Jim Miller, all of Glenville, and Wesley Miller of Ohio; seven daughters, Laura Connor of Little Birch, Martha Anderson of Alabama, Bertha Brown of Napier, Sue Brown of Burnsville, Vicki Ashley of Baltimore, Md., Ann Greenleaf of Port Richy, Fla., and Kathy Marks of Glenville; two sisters, Carol Barr of Grantsville and Eilene Lattea of Newton Falls, Ohio; four brothers, Joe Dennison of Cedarville, Oscar Dennison of Glenville, Danny Dennison of Sand Fork, and Jim Dennison of Summersville; and 34 grand-children. He was preceded in death by two sons, one stepson, two brothers, and one sister. Services were held at Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville, with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lane cemetery.

DILLON, ORVAL "BOB"

Orval "Bob" Dillon, 90, of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Charleston Area Medical Center General Division. He was born in Crummies Creek, a son of the late William D. and Anna Starcher Dillon. He was a timber worker in the 1930s, a coal miner in the 1940s, and worked for State Road Commission and Hope Natural Gas Co. in the 1950s. He then worked for Ohio Brass Co., Barberton, Ohio, where he retired at age 70. He enjoyed nature sports, including hunting and fishing. Surviving are one daughter, Sue Anne Steele of Akron; one son, William R. Dillon of Arnoldsburg; one stepson, Thomas Collins of Orma; one brother, J.C. Dillon of Arnoldsburg; two stepsisters, Ruby Sampson of St. Marys and Greta Crawford of Sand Ridge; two stepbrothers, W.D. Dillon, Jr., of Barberton and J.B. Dillon of Sand Ridge; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Lee Chafin Dillon; one sister, Frieda Spurling; two brothers, Joe Dillon and George Dillon; one grandson, William R. Dillon, Jr.; and one great-grandson, Stephen P. Morris. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 1 p.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer. Burial will be in Sand Ridge cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

DODD, MILLARD L.

Millard L. Dodd, 60, of Weston, died Thursday, May 14, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Ritchie County, a son of the late Russell and Edna Heath Dodd. He was a retired first sergeant with 20 years service in the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart, Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge and several others. He was a member of Purple Heart Chapter 418 of Clarksburg and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 51 of Weston. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn S. Collins Dodd; two sons, Mark Dodd and Steven Dodd, both of Monterey, Calif.; four daughters, Michelle Dodd, Louise Dodd, Vicki Dodd and Linda Dodd, all of Monterey; three stepsons, Thomas Brian Carmichael of Virginia, Billy Lee Carmichael of Pennsylvania and Edwin Wayne Carmichael of Salem; two stepdaughters, Patricia Ann Majors of Elkton, Ky., and Melissa Lynn Carmichael of Hicksville, N.C.; two brothers, Max Dodd of Iowa and Ronnie Dodd of Pennsboro; five sisters, Evelyn Whitehair and Peggy Dodd, both of Pennsboro, Helen Snyder of Calhoun County, Betty Dodd of North Carolina and Pauline Dodd of Georgia; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Services were held at Floyd Funeral Home, Weston, with Rev. Charles R. Burnside officiating. Burial was in W.Va. National cemetery, Grafton.

DODD, ROY

Roy Lewis Dodd, 67, of Lynn Camp Community, Pennsboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born at Wilsonburg, Harrison County, a son of the late James Russell and Edna V. Heath Dodd. He was a Korean War veteran and had been a timberman and a sawer for local sawmills. He was a member of American Legion, Pennsboro. Surviving are three brothers, Max Dodd of Ottumwa, Iowa, Ronald Dodd of Finch Community, Ellenboro, and Milard Dodd of Jane Lew; and five sisters, Betty Blankenship of Peachland, N.C., Pauline Stephens of Murphy, N.C., Helen Snider of Big Springs, and Peggy Jones and Evelyn Whitehair, both of Pennsboro. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nole Dodd and James Dodd; and one sister, Nancy Dodd. Services were held at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro. Burial was in West Virginia National cemetery, Pruntytown, with military rites.

DOTSON, ALMA MARIE

Alma Marie Dotson, 79, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Samuel Mack and Bertha Nelson Criss. She was a former employee of American Viscose and she was a Protestant. Surviving are her husband, Elden LaFoy Dotson; one son, Seldon L. Dotson of Parkersburg; three brothers, Woodrow Criss of Parkersburg and Raymond Criss and William Criss, both of Vienna; two sisters, Emogene Anderson of Parkersburg and Edith Knight of Big Bend; two nephews, Mark Dotson of Columbus and David Dotson of Charleston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron Criss and Everett Criss; and four sisters, Ethel Grantham, Frances Haney, Gertrude Thompson, and Ellodean Barnes. Services were held at Ogdin Kimes Funeral Home, Parkers-burg, with Rev. Lindsay Thorpe officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery.

DOWNEY, NELLE

Nelle Lamb Downey, 86, of St. Albans, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness. She was born in Douglas, a daughter of the late Dr. C.R. and Nannie Lamb. She was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, St. Albans, and was a former school teacher in Calhoun and Clay counties and a homemaker. Surviving are one daughter, Leanna Downey Stull of St. Albans; two brothers, Creed Lamb of South Charleston and James Lamb of St. Albans; four sisters, Hazel Christian and Goldie Rice, both of Gauley Bridge, Losie Dye of Chloe and Maysel Snyder of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Downey; one brother, Clifford Lamb; and two sisters, Gertrude Grogg and Ruby Finley. Services were held at Casdorph and Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Rev. David Pence officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

DUFFIELD, MARY

Mary Duffield, 92, of Massillon, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of John and Cora Adams Miller. She was a homemaker and a resident of Massillon for 34 years. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and attended Massillon Baptist Temple. Surviving are one daughter, Cora Hoover of Massillon, with whom she resided; two brothers, Guy D. Miller of Dalton, Ohio, and Lemuel S. Miller of Spencer; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Duffield; one sister, Virginia Miller; and two brothers, Harry Miller and Gordon Miller. Services were held at Massillon Baptist Temple, with Dr. W. Jay Dolvin officiating. Burial was in Broolfield cemetery.

EAGLE, CHRISTINA

Christina Butler Eagle, 67, of Ivydale, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was born in Bickmore, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Ramsey Jarrett. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, William Edmond Eagle; four daughters, Catherine Eagle and Charlotte Wagner, both of Big Bend, Mary Butler and Carol Kanalley, both of Lockport, N.Y.; one son, Kevin Ranson of Clay; four sisters, Grace Churby of Lamont Furnace, Pa., Ruth Cottrell of Bickmore, Opal Kirk of Marmet and Violet Tanner of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Joe Bill Jarrett of Grantsville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Rev. Lee Myers officiating, and burial in Moorfork cemetery, Big Otter.
