GUINN, DOROTHEA T.

Dorothea Taylor Guinn, 83, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at her daughter's residence in Parkersburg. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late J.W. and Alma Dawkins Taylor. She and her husband owned and operated Parkerhouse Candies for many years. After the death of her husband, she worked at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for 12 years until her retirement. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Parkersburg. Surviving are two daughters, JoAnne Leach of Lansing, N.C., and Jean Brown of Parkerburg; one son, Richard Guinn of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Guinn, Jr.; one brother, Dr. James Taylor; and two sisters, Lena Berry and Georgia Smith. Services were held at Leavitt Fuenral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Robert Fulton officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

HALL, DREXEL

Drexel E. Hall, 74, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Mar. 14, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sand Ridge, a son of the late White and Euna Hall. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and vice president of Steer Heating & Cooling, Parkersburg. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Erma Stump Hall; one daughter, Hannah Gainer of Belpre, Ohio; one brother, Kenneth Hall of Sand Ridge; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Hall and Albert Hall; two sisters, Meryl Ferguson and Maxine Hall Myrtle; and an infant twin. Services were held at Cedar Grove U.M. Church, with Rev. Timothy Waugh officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Parkersburg.

HALL, ERMA

Erma Hall, 80, of Stouts Mills, died Monday, June 23, 1997, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. She was born in Calhoun County. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are three daughters, Geraldine Albright of Fairmont, Ernestine Hardman of Stouts Mills and Madeline Beall of Clinton, Ohio; one son, Virgil Ray Hall of Glenville; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hall; and one grandson, David Hall. Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial will be in Sand Fork cemetery. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.

HALL, IVA

Iva Hall, 98, of Spencer, formerly of Arnoldsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, in Miletree Health Care Center, Spencer. She was born at Orma, a daughter of the late Samuel and Flora Laughlin Greathouse. She was a homemaker and Protestant. Surviving are two sons, Wheeler G. Hall and Edsel E. "Poncho" Hall, both of Spencer; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh W. Hall; two sons, Henry C. Hall and Euell P. Hall; one daughter, Fucie Keffer; five brothers; and one grandson. Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Daniel R. Whited officiating. Burial was in Sandridge cemetery.

HALL, REBECCA

Rebecca Ellen Hall, 91, of Big Bend, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Americare-Glenville. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maude Kerby Riggs. She was a homemaker. Surviving are three nieces, Madeline Wagoner, Barbara Church and Lola Moss, all of Arnoldsburg; and seven nephews, Donald Whytsell, Fred Whytsell, Jr., Frank Whytsell and Bennie Whytsell, all of Arnoldsburg, Ray Whytsell of Macedonia, Ohio, George Whytsell of Louisville, Ohio, and Richard Whytsell of West Salem, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holly Hall. one son, Holly Sturm; three brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Delbert L. Kerby officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive United Methodist cemetery, Mt. Zion.

HAMILTON, VICTOR III

Victor Hamilton III, 45, of Huntington, died Sunday, June 15, in a motorcycle accident near Haverhill, Scioto County, Ohio. He was born in Wood County, a son of Victor and Helen K. Hamilton of Grantsville. He was a 1970 graduate of Calhoun County High School and received a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1974. He was director of news services for Marshall University. He was a former editor of the Braxton Democrat for three years, former director of information services for W.Va. State College, former writer for W.Va. Dept. of Highways and former director of public information for Alderson-Broaddus College for four years. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Pamela Casto Hamilton; one sister, Janet Coberly of Fairfax, Va.; and one brother, Roger Hamilton of Charleston. Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville. Visitation was scheduled at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

HARRIS, GEORGE L.

George L. Harris, 62, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly of Calhoun County, died Tuesday, Mar. 25, 1997, at Wooster Community Hospital. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late George Dallas and Edith Louise Starcher Harris. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of Full Gospel Church, Canal Fulton, Ohio. Surviving are his wife, Emilie Leach Harris of Wooster; four daughters, Kathlene Harris, Audrey Smith and Phyllis Vannoy, all of Mt. Zion, and Janet Donahue of Wooster; two sons, Roger Harris and Jimmy Harris, both of Wooster; two half-sisters. Virginia Vance of Orrville, Ohio, and Marie Short of Wooster; two stepbrothers, Dallas May of Morgantown and Staciel Fox of Wooster; 13 grandchildren; and one stepgrandson. He was preceded in death by three half-brothers and one half-sister. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Burial was in Sycamore cemetery, Mt. Zion.

HARRIS, KENNETH

Kenneth 'Mike' Harris, 73, of Stumptown, died Sunday, Mar. 2, 1997, at Steer Creek. He was born in Stumptown, a son of the late Alva and Delpha Dobbins Harris. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was retired from Larson Consolidated Corp., Grafton, Ohio. He was a member of Rush Run Homemakers Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 200, Charleston, Buckwheat Pickers Bluegrass and Gospel Band of Grafton, Harris Family Gospel Singers, and Traditional Bluegrass Gospel Band of Grafton. He was a member of Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown. where he served as deacon and assistant Sunday School teacher. Surviving ate his wife of 45 years, Virgie Minney Harris of Stumptown; one son, Kenny Harris of Stumptown; one daughter, Kathy Bishop of Columbus, Ga.; seven sisters, Betty McCune of Grafton, Jean Lyons of Brunswick, Ohio, Minnie Stalnaker of LaGrange, Ohio, Nellie Settle of Petroleum, Sue Morton of Harrisville, and Lyda Harris and Lou Miller, both of Stumptown; and three brothers, Clarence Harris of Spencer, and Alva Harris and Sam Harris, both of Grafton. Services were held at Rush Run Baptist Church, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating. Burial was in Collins Community cemetery, Stumptown.

HATHAWAY, AUDY D.

Audy D. Hathaway, 82, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Curtis and Hattie Bennett Hathaway. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany. He was a former auto mechanic and truck driver and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Amy Powell Hathaway of Grantsville; one son, Larry Hathaway of Clerksburg; three sisters, Pearl Vanhorn and Churl Scott, both of Big Springs, and Dixie Gregg of Warwick, Ohio; two brothers, Darrell Hathaway of Parkersburg and Charles Hathaway of Weston; and three grandchildren. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating, and burial in Mt. Zion cemetery.

HAUGHT, DAVID W.

David Willis Haught, 79, of Greenville, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Haught, formerly of Grantsville. He grew up and spent his early years in Grantsville. He was a graduate of West Virginia University where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He was a nuclear engineer with Bechtel Corp. before his retirement. He did early research on the Manhattan Project at University of Chicago and continued working in the domestic and international nuclear power industry. He was a member of Lee Road United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Edith Whitson Haught; two sons, John Ramsey Haught of Berkeley, Calif., and David Jeffrey Haught of London, England; and one sister, Juanita Willard of Sevierville, Tenn. Services were held at Lee Road United Methodist Church.

HAVERTY, ELLA BELLE

Ella Belle Haverty, 83, of Grantsville, died Friday, June 13, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Elmer and Letha Sturm Yeager. She was a homemaker. Surviving are four sisters, Peggy Cain of Grantsville, Grey Arthur of Charleston, Betty Boyce of Sissonville and Dottie Shamblin of Pocatalico; and two brothers, Victor Elliott of St. Albans and Morford Elliott of Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert Haverty; two sisters, Scottie Bennett and Edith Boyce; and one brother, Jeff Elliott. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

HAYHURST, ERLESS

Erless Bell Gherke Hayhurst, 91, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at Americare Arlington, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Rev. Michael S. and Nellie Knotts Gherke. She lived in Calhoun County all her life and was a homemaker. She worked as a clerk in Dalton Dept. Store, Grantsville, for many years and served on the Grantsville Town Council. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville Surviving are three sons, Herbert Gail Hayhurst of Bartlett, Ohio, Ernest Hayhurst of Raleigh, N.C., and Kyle Hayhurst of Washington; two daughters, Carolyn Collins of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Junell Vannoy of Mineral Wells; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Hayhurst; one granddaughter, Tina Sue Vannoy; three brothers, Wayland Gherke, Whitt Gherke and Carlos Gherke; and one sister, Aleen Farrell. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Pearson officiating, and burial in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville. HEFNER, WILLIAM L.

William L. Hefner, 78, of Grantsville, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, in West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown. He was born in Wheeling, a son of the late Frank and Minnie Barnes Hefner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired surveyor for W.Va. Dept. of Highways. He was an avid golf and bowling enthusiast and was a Calhoun County historian. He was a member of Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are one niece, Mary Mullenax of Grantsville, and two great- nieces, Randa Mullenax of Grantsville and Jennifer Whitehair of Fairmont. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Reed. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.

HEINEY, DENVER

Denver Heiney, 72, of Flint, Mich., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at his daughter's residence in Flint. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Howard and Retta Hosey Heiney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in the building trades industry. He was a former member of Bancroft Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Dessie Myers of Durand, Mich., Debra Gibson of Sevierville, Tenn., and Darlene Carr of Flint; five sons, William Snook and Benjamin Snook, both of Byron, Robert Snook of Weidman, Mich., Buddy Snook of White Bluff, Tenn., and Buck Heiney of Owosso, Mich.; six sisters, Geneva Snider of Grantsville, Eleanor Ciarcia of Aurora, Ohio, Louise Newbrough of Brohard, Lela Reeder, Juanita Reynolds and Grace Wilson, all of Parkersburg; four brothers, Charles Heiney of Grantsville, Forest L. Heiney of Glenville, Henry H. Heiney of Ravenna, Ohio, and Donald H. Heiney of Stumptown; 19 grand-children; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Matchett Heiney; one sister, Marie Mascoline; and one brother, Doyle "Buddy" Heiney. Services were held at Streeter Funeral Home, Byron, with Rev. Franklin Hepworth officiating. Burial was in Union Plains cemetery, Byron.
