LEACH, LELAH

Lelah Leach, 84, of Millstone, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Ferris and Hallie Stump. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Hatzel Leach of Millstone; two daughters, Leah Garrett of Millstone and Emilie Harris of Wooster, Ohio; four sisters, Leta Boatright and Zella Stump, both of Grants-ville, Arlena Hicks of Sand Ridge and Ella Elliott of Millstone; three brothers, Loren Stump of Arnoldsburg, Denver Stump of Sand Ridge and Leon Stump of Beaver Falls, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery, Millstone.

LEVERING, D. MAXINE

D. Maxine Moran Levering, 75, of Russett, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Monnica Sherree Snodgrass of Ripley. She was born in Gilmer Station, a daughter of the late Douglas Moran and Allie Deulley Moran Gunn. She was a 1940 graduate of Calhoun County High School and was a former employee of B.F. Goodrich Co., Akron. She and her late husband owned and operated Levering's General Store in Russett until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Millstone Church of Christ. Surviving are one son, Dale F. Levering, Jr., of Boston, Mass.; three daughters, Carolina Jean Hitchings of Troy, Ohio, Monnica Sherree Snodgrass and M. Christine Eggleston, both of Ripley; and six grandchildren, John F. Kimble of Troy, Dan Levering of Harrisburg, Pa., Matthew Levering of Boston, Thomas M. Snodgrass and Sarah Snodgrass, both of Huntington, and Tyler Dale Levering of Ripley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Levering; and one son, Anthony Douglas Levering. Services will be held on Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Evangelist Corley Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.

LEWIS, MILDRED B.

Mildred Britton Lewis, 77, of Belmont, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Newberne, a daughter of the late H.R. and Dona B. Byrd Britton. She retired from Colin Anderson Center, St. Marys. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Belmont. Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Heiney of Grantsville; two sons, Thomas Lee Lewis of Mineral Wells and Robert Marvan Lewis of St. Marys; one sister, Wilma Rymer of Weston; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvan Ward Lewis, and one brother, Kenneth Britton. Services were held at Ruttencutter Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. Burial was in IOOF cemetery, Troy.

LITTLE, EVERETT L.

Everett L. Little, 91, of Spencer, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Braxton County, a son of the late Joe and Betty Starcher Little. He was a farmer, a former coal miner, and a former employee of WVDOH and Spencer Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are nine sons, James Little of Ashland, Ky., Gerald Little of Marietta, Fred Little, Commodore Little, Joe Little, Robert "Bud" Little and David Little, all of Grantsville, and Harlan "Blackie" Little and Harley "Whitney" Little, both of Spencer; two daughters, Mae Lowe of Reedy and Hattie "Sissy" Starcher of Orma; one brother, Fred Little of Ohio; 21 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Jane Rhodes Little; six children; one brother; and one sister. Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Carl R. Marks officiating. Burial was in Hur cemetery.

LOVETT, NEVA LUCILLE

Neva Lucille Lovett, 82, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at her residence. She was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Ellenboro, a daughter of the late I. Hamen and Alma Rymer Lowther. She was a member of Weston Chapter #40 Order of Eastern Star, Clarksburg Omega White Shrine #15, Fern Leaf Rebecca Lodge, American Legion #4, and Knotts Memorial United Metho-dist Church, Grantsville, where she was the organist for 30 years. Surviving are her husband, Mark T. Lovett; a daughter, Ruth Ellen Gira of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be private, with Pastor Larry Roth officiating, and burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

MANGUS, BERTHA JANE

Bertha Jane Mangus, 77, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Chapmanville, a daughter of the late Doliver and Stella Ball Garrett. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Renee Mangus of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Larry Mangus of Mt. Zion and Rev. Arnold Mangus of Festus, Mo.; two sisters, Ada Mae Trent of Davin and Karen Ferrell of Jamestown, N.C.; two brothers, Bobby Garrett of Cleveland, Ohio, and Randy Garrett of Sandyville; five grand-children; and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ross Mangus; one son, Joseph Ross Mangus; two sisters, Geneva Garrett and Ruth Hensley; and two brothers, Curtis Garrett and Samuel Garrett. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Claypool United Methodist Church, Davin, with Rev. Arnold Mangus officiating, and burial in Claypool cemetery, Davin. Visitation at the church scheduled one hour before the services.

MARKS, LORETTA J.

Loretta June Marks, 61, of Millstone, died Sunday, Mar. 9, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Frank and Blondelia Bell Murphy. She was a homemaker. Surviving are four daughters, Carolyn Dearth of Lodi, Ohio, Bessie Wilson of Weirton, Patricia Yeager of Elmira and Charmin Marks of Millstone; four sisters, Ester Laughlin and Judy Knotts, both of Arnoldsburg, Bessie Hall of Spencer and Rosalee Thompson of Gilbertown, Ala.; two brothers, Holly Murphy of Creston and Paul Murphy of Mt. Zion; seven grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Marks. Services were scheduled at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with burial in Bryner Chapel Church cemetery near Annamotiah.

MARSHALL, GLADYS

Gladys Marshall, 87, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late L.H. and Icy Shimer Trippett. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving is her husband, Leonard B. Marshall. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mary Zimmer officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville.

MAYNE, IVAN L.

Ivan L. Mayne, 81, of Spencer, died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant. He was born in Minnora, a son of the late John Henry and Martha Jane Crawford Mayne. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a retired farmer. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mildred Mayne of Spencer; two nephews, Roger Mayne of Spencer and John Mayne of Clendenin; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, William O. Mayne. Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Carl R. Marks officiating. Burial was in Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery, Mt. Zion.

McCLAIN, IRVIN S.

Irvin Sherwood McClain, 73, of Elkins, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, Elkins. He was born in Salem, a son of the late Ariel Ethan and Flossie Allen McClain. He graduated from Calhoun County High School, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and retired from Consolidated Natural Gas. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Elks Lodge 1135 and First Baptist Church of Clarksburg. Surviving are his wife, Leota B. Kelley McClain; one daughter, Kandes Crawford of Elkins; one granddaughter, Stephanie E. Haynes of Elkins; one brother, Ariel E. McClain, Jr., of Ironton, Ohio; three sisters, Helen Watson of Belpre, June Buckley of Charleroi, Pa., and Nadine Gant of Tempe, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Craig S. McCalin, and two sisters, Pauline Coulter and Mary Susan McClain. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Kenneth Kendell and Rev. Larry Crawford officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville.

McCOURT, PAULINE

I. Pauline McCourt, 65, of Indian Camp, Ohio, died Monday, May 5, 1997, at her home. She was born in Wallback, a daughter of the late Otha O. Drake and Opal Maysel May Drake. She was a homemaker and a Freewill Baptist. Surviving are her husband, Arden S. McCourt; three daugh-ters, Rhonda Holeton of New Concord, Ohio, Robin Wiley of Johnson City, Tenn., and Rhea Jarvis of Cambridge, Ohio; one son, Timothy Jarvis of Mogadore, Ohio; one step-son, Jerry A. McCourt of Mentor, Ohio; three sisters, Cleo Adelman of Rootstown, Ohio, Jean Blacklock of Albuquerque, N.M., and Careen "Crickette" Wiley of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Jack Drake of Ivydale, Marshall Drake of Akron, Forrest Drake of Clay, and Charles Robert Drake King of Tariff; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Services will be held at Mud Fork Church, Stinson, on Thurs-day at 1 p.m., with Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Coen cemetery.

McCOY, MARY E.

Mary E. Stump McCoy, 85, of Belpre, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, at Arbors of Marietta. She was born in Hur, a daughter of the late Slathiel and Anise Stemple Slider. She was retired from Rubber Fabricators, Grants- ville. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are her husband, Glen McCoy; one daughter, Jane Baird of Ivydale; one stepdaughter, Norma Kemp of Belpre; three granddaughters, Kelly Offenberger of Parkersburg, Elaine Linden-thal of Gassaway and Ann Caufman of Botswana, Africa; one great-grandson, Matthew Cole of Gassaway; one great-grand-daughter, Megan Cole of Gassaway; two stepgranddaughters, Kelly Bloss and Tiffany Bloss, both of Parkersburg; and one step-grandson, Chad Bloss of Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, J. Russell Stump; and two sons, James W. Stump and Robert Gene Stump. Services were held at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Pearson officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.

McCUNE, MOTER

Moter Ray McCune, 74, of Beckley, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996, at the veterans hospital in Beckley. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Sherman and Elizabeth Norman McCune. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 32, Beckley. He attended Rogers Street Community Church, Princeton. He retired from Allied Chemical, Alloy, in 1974 Surviving are one son, Gary McCune of Goldsboro, N.C.; two daughters, Sharon Pyatt of Oak Hill and Betty Triplett of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Tammy Pyatt of Oak Hill; two sisters, Ida Siers of Grantsville and Lida Bailey of Minnora; and companion and friend, Lora J. Neely of Lake Bottom. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Services were held at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton, with Rev. Eugene Pennington and Rev. Cecil Shrader officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 175, Bradshaw. and Mercer County Veterans Council.
