MORGAN, BOB

Bob Morgan, 81, of Grantsville, died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late T. S. and Ruby Fox Morgan. He attended West Virginia Technical College and Colegate University. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre. He owned and operated Bob's Esso service station on Main Street, Grantsville, for several years. He served one term as Sheriff of Calhoun County, was a former Calhoun County Commissioner and served two terms as Circuit Clerk of Calhoun County. Surviving are two sons, Tony Morgan of Grantsville and David Morgan of Millstone; one daughter, Patsy Kisner of Millstone; two brothers, Quenton Morgan of Arnoldsburg and Owen Morgan of Radford, Va.; four sisters, Joy Stevens of Grantsville, Dolly Morgan of Mount Dora, Fla., Imogene Campbell of Spencer and Audena Newhart of Williamstown; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarete L. Morgan; one brother, Arthur Morgan; three sisters, Pauline Morgan, Betty Morgan and Lenora Davis; and one granddaughter, Mary M. Kisner. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mount Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Zion cemetery.

MORGAN, RAYMOND

Former state legislator and noted farm lobbyist Raymond F. Morgan, 89, of Elizabeth, died Thursday, May 1, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late James West and Roaslie Booher Morgan. He was a 1926 graduate of Elizabeth High School. During World War II, he was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Akron. He returned to the family farm in Wirt County where he owned and operated Lazy River Dairy Farm for many years. He was active with farming issues, having been a farming lobbyist for the West Virginia Legislature and a longtime member of Wirt County Farm Bureau. He was elected to the W.Va. House of Delegates in the 1950's and was the only Wirt Countian to have sponsored a bill that was signed into law. He retired from W.Va. Dept. of Highways, where he served as superintendent and supervisor of Wirt County Division. For more than 28 years, he was known to the Mid-Ohio Valley as "The Boss" in The Parkersburg News column, Ramblings, authored by his late wife Ruth Morgan. He was active in political issues in Wirt County and was a longtime member of Wirt County Republican Committee, having served as county chairman. He was a member of Wirt County Fair Association and held a lifetime membership. Surviving are one son, Lowell Morgan of North Canton, Ohio; one daughter, Alice Stanley of Ona; two brothers, James Kenneth Morgan and Charles Morgan, both of Akron; three grandsons, Bruce Stanley of Williamstown, Raymond Morgan of Ripley and James Stanley of Elizabeth; three granddaughters, Rebecca Richards and Marybeth Busch, both of Elizabeth, and Ruth Anne Full of Beckley; and 14 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Parry Morgan; three brothers, James W. Morgan II, George Morgan and Paige Morgan; and five sisters, Sadie Riley, Essie Wallbrown, Edith Lavina Mason, Winnie Sarver and Lena Spencer. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Robert Stanley and Rev. James O. Richards officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth.

MORRIS, WILLIS J.

Willis J. Morris, 89, of Mt. Zion, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Ritchie County, a son of the late Elmer and Lula Smith Morris. He was a retired employee of West Virginia Dept. of Highways. He was a member of Calhoun Full Gospel Quartet and was active in gospel singing in West Virginia and Ohio for several years. He was a Protestant. Surviving are his wife, Mary Grace Hayhurst Morris of Mt. Zion; one son, Don Morris of Guysville, Ohio; three sisters, Pauline Geho of Beatrice, Leona Hart of Massillon, Ohio, and Geraldine McDaniels of Canton, Oho; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert K. Morris and William Morris. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made to Calhoun Gospel Singers, c/o Calhoun County Bank, Grantsville, WV 26147.

MURPHY, FLONA

Flona Murphy, 90, of Barberton, Ohio, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at Pleasantview Care Center, Barberton. She was born in Chloe, a daughter of the late French and Elizabeth Jackson Sears. Surviving are one daughter, Dorma Cooper of Norton, Ohio; two sons, Jack Murphy of Barberton and Ralph Murphy of Norton; two half- sisters, Maysel Carr and Hallie Lyons, both of West Virginia; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Murphy, and one son, Carrison Murphy. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Burial was in Coen cemetery, Nebo.

NICHOLAS, RALPH L.

Ralph L. "Swifty" Nicholas, 92, of Grantsville, died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Revere, Gilmer County, a son of the late Charles M. and Alta Stridd Nicholas. He was assistant superinten-dent of Consolidated Natural Gas Co., retiring in July 1967 with 45 years of service. He served on the board of trustees and was a member of J.W. Pell Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Ida Mae Whipkey Nicholas of Grantsville; four sons, Cleston Nicholas and Ralph Nicholas, both of Grantsville, Charles Nicholas of Harrisville and Phillip Nicholas of Vienna; four daughters, Colleen Burdette of Vienna, Phyllis Belt of Tucson, Ariz., Alta Mae Richards of Big Springs and Sandra Richter of Walker; one sister, Hazel Kelly of Belpre; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Carroll Nicholas; four brothers, Denver Nicholas, Hall Nicholas, Hoy Nicholas and Charles Nicholas; three sisters, Pearl Robinson, Linda Beall and Wyoma Mullikin; and three grandchildren. Services were scheduled Monday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Nobe cemetery.

NICHOLS, JOHN R.

John R. Nichols, 83, of Akron, Ohio, died Friday, Mar. 14, 1997, at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Amanda Bryner Nichols and William E. Nichols. He was retired from Goodyear with 40 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Joetta McGarth Nichols; one daughter, Sandra Seyfarth of Fayetteville, N.C.; one stepson, Kenneth McGarth of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Audra Riggs of Zanesville, Ohio, Opal Connolly of Grantsville, and Genieve Eagle of Mt. Zion; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by one brother, Buford D. Nichols.

NICHOLS, KAREN SUE

Karen Sue Nichols, 52, of Waterford, Ohio, died Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John M. Haddox and Schella Lorraine Morrison Haddox of Belleville. She was a 1963 graduate of Calhoun High School, 1965 graduate of Mountain State College, and 1986 graduate of Washington Technical College with an associate's degree in computer programming. She was office manager for Nick's Trucking for 31 years and was a member of Big Springs Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Roy C. Nichols; two daughters, Robin Thompson of Columbus and Ninette Stacy Enochs of Beverly; two sisters, Janice Farren of Cincinnati and Alice Harrold of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Victor Haddox of Belleville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Services were held at Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Heller officiating. Burial was in Barlow cemetery.

NICHOLS, SHARON LOU

Sharon Lou Nichols, 49, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of Oral and Lucy Davisson Nichols of Grantsville. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are three brothers, Larry Nichols of Ripley and Millard Nichols and Garland Nichols, both of Grantsville; five sisters, Gloria Kendall of Walker, Doris Reaser of Clarksburg, Sheila Starcher of Mesa, Ariz., Charlotte McDonald of Springdale, Ark., and Anetta Perry of Wayne; and Patricia Smith Groves of Parkersburg, with whom she made her home. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Tenney and Harry Siers officiating. Burial was in Good Hope cemetery, near Spencer.

NICHOLSON, CHARLES

Charles "Tootie" Nicholson, 53, of Grantsville, died Wednes-day, June 11, 1997, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Braxton County, a son of the late Wilbert and Ona Kelly Nicholson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and was employed by B.F. Goodrich Co., Spencer. Surviving are his wife, Geneva Schoolcraft Nicholson; two daughters, Malissa Richards and Angie Robinson, both of Grants-ville; one brother, Bobby Nicholson of Grantsville; four sisters, Betty Wilson and Alma Freed, both of Big Bend, and Wyvonda Turner and Charlotte Hardman, both of Grantsville. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Gerald Tilley officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

NORMAN, TERESA

Teresa Norman, 69, of Millstone, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Edgar and Frona Butler Wears. She retired from Spencer State Hospital and was a member of Arnoldsburg Southern Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Orville Norman; three sons, William Ray Finkenbinder of Orma, Timothy Finkenbinder of Orrville, Ohio, and David Finkenbinder of Millstone; three daughters, Linda Sampson of Elizabeth, Barbara "Bobbi" Nicholas of Orma and Diana Sampson of Millstone; one sister, Edna Falls of Glenville; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Shirley Greathouse and Ray Greathouse; and two brothers, Raymond Wears and Erman Wears. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Sampson-Greathouse cemetery, Orma.

NORMAN, WILLIAM H.

William H. Norman, 80, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late George Washington and Maude Greathouse Norman. He was a member of Laborer's Local 1085. Surviving are his wife, Dimpsie Blosser Norman of Parkers-burg; two sons, Terry Michael Norman and William G. Norman, both of Parkersburg; six daughters, Deloris Sams of Belleville, Loretta Carpenter, Hope Norman, Ellen Waterman, Jenny Gaines, all of Parkersburg, and Betty Jacks of Florida; three sisters, Maggie Richards of Big Bend and Bernadine Braham and Dortha Gant, both of Parkersburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Norman; one daughter, Rebecca Norman; and three sisters. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Carr K. Leavitt officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery South.

O'DONNELL, EDITH L.

Edith L. O'Donnell, 75, of Parkersburg died Thursday, Aug. 14, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Jesse W. Keith and Amanda Parsons Newell. She was a Parkersburg High School graduate and was retired from American Viscose, where she worked in production. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Nora Brookover and Nellie Herning, both of Parkersburg; stepfather, Gerald Newell, Sr., of Spencer; six stepbrothers, Don Newell of Hartville, Ohio, Harold Newell of Vienna, Leon Newell of Mogadore, Ohio, and Harry Newell and Gerald Newell, Jr., both of Orma; two stepsisters, Imagene Robinson of Tanner and Elodene Yerkey of New Stanton, Pa.; one foster son, John Coss of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer O'Donnell, and one son, Michael O'Donnell. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Paul Russell and Lloyd Keith officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.

OFFUTT, MARY RUTH

Mary Ruth Offutt, 85, of Canton, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at Sumser Retirement Village, Canton. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John and Lula Sarver Garrett. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Ollie Offutt, St., of Canton; two sons, Ollie Offutt, Jr., of Parkersburg and Bernard Offutt of Sandyville; one daughter, Glennis Simmons of Twinsburg, Ohio; one sister, Glenna Lynch of Arnoldsburg; one brother, John Garrett of Newton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Sand Ridge cemetery.
