WILSON, DESSIE

Dessie Wilson, 88, of Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Beverly, Oh., died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1994, at the nursing home. She was born in Big Springs, a daughter of the late Floyd Sleth and Mary Elizabeth Radabaugh Wilson. She was retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. Surviving are one niece, Emogene Custer of Seven Lakes, N.C. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Services were held at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

WILSON, ELSIE P.

Elsie P. Wilson, 84, of Tucson, Ariz., died Monday, Feb. 28, 1994, at St. Mary's Hospital, Tucson, after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Rev. Jacob and Ola G. Shimer Snider. She was a member of Hoy Chapel United Methodist Church, Brohard. Surviving are three sons, Lyle Dean Wilson of Antioch, Ill., George "Pat" Wilson of Dekalb, Ill., and Howard Wilson of Tucson; four sisters, Lottie Belt of Parkersburg, Bernice Kral of Cleveland, Lela Mathess of Columbus, and Gladys Johnson of Williamstown; two brothers, Milford Snider of Parkersburg and Willard Snider of Brohard; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Wilson; and two sons, Randall Wilson and Max Wilson. Services were held at Hoy Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Saunders cemetery, Big Springs.

WILSON, ERNEST B.

Ernest B. Wilson, 60, of Elizabeth, died Friday, April 22, 1994, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Claud and Icy Richards Wilson. He attended Calhoun County schools and was a graduate of Hinds Junior College, Raymond, Miss., with an associate's in industrial management. He attended University of Southern Mississippi and Jackson State University where he received a degree in education. He was employed as a teacher at Fayette (Miss.) High School and retired in 1975 from the U.S. Navy having served as an electronics specialist and machine repairman. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam with over 21 years of military service. He was an avid outdoorsman and a resident of Wirt County since 1983. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Juanita Glenna Eastep Wilson; three daughtes, Robin Rindfleisch of Columbia, S. C., Pam Fleenor of Biloxi, Miss., and Nancy Agee of Ridgeland, Miss.; three sisters, Della Jenkins of Etowah, Tenn. Viola Dye of Perry, Ohio, Beryle Richards of East Lake, Ohio; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Michael E. Taylor officiating. Burial was in West Virginia National cemetery, Pruntytown, with full military honors.

WILSON, HAROLD C.

Harold C. Wilson, 92, of Morgantown, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 1994, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born Mar. 4, 1901, in Cameron, a son of the late Warren and Hannah Catherine Ullom Wilson. He was a life-long member of United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay Leader for 13 years. He was most recently affiliated with Drummond Chapel United Methodist Church, Morgantown. He was a drilling contractor and producer of natural gas. He was formerly general manager of Cameron Tool and Supply Co., president of Waynesburg Tool Co., treasurer of Brock and Courtney Leases, of Berea Gas, and of Morgantown Gas Willis Leases. Earlier, he had worked in gas and oil fields throughout West Virginia, including Calhoun, Gilmer, Roane, Marshall, and Wetzel counties. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, Grantsville, and of Morgantown Gideon Camp. He was a member of Monongalia Historical Society and an honorary member of West Virginia University Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Ella Lambert Wilson, one daughter Marjorie Jo Hartsock of Los Angeles, Calif., and by five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estrial Hall Wilson, in 1973, one son, James H. Wilson; four sisters; and one brother. Services were held at Hastings Funeral Home, Morgantown, with Rev. Ronald M. McCauley officiating. Burial was in Lawnwood cemetery.

WILSON, LORENE G.

Lorene G. Wilson, 81, of Windham, Ohio, died at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna, Ohio. She was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Big Springs, a daughter of Everett and May Whipkey Wilson. An Ohio area resident for 40 years, she had worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant and had been a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Gernelda "Gerry" Hughs of Windham; two brothers, James of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Olis of Ocala, Fla.; four sisters, Irene Anderson of Five Forks, Lucretia Brooks of Columbus, Lena Fowler of Windham, and Imogene Shafer of Newton Falls; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sheldon; and a sister, Cleta Collins. Services were held at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, Garrettsville, Ohio. Burial was in Windham cemetery.

GRIFFIN, TELITHA "PEG"

Telitha "Peg" Griffin, 86, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Dec. 23, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Rocksdale, a daughter of the late William F. and Sallie Bowers Starcher. She was a lifelong homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving are a sister, Minnie Zinn of Parkersburg; three brothers, Leon Starcher and Cecil Starcher, both of Akron, Ohio, and Clifford Starcher of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lora H. Griffin; two brothers, Ray Starcher and Dennis Starcher; and two sisters, Delia Bailey and Pearl Bailey. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Bob Duskey officiating. Burial was in Gibson cemetery, near Arnoldsburg.

GRIM, THOMAS BRADY

Thomas Brady Grim, 90, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Mar. 15, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born in Creston, a son of the late John William and Mary "Mamie" King Grim. He attended Wirt County Local Schools and was retired from Erie Art Metals of Erie, Pa., as a craftsman. He was an evangelist for the Churches of God and attended the Word of God Ministries Church. Surviving are his wife, Thelma Whitlach Grim; two sons, Harold Grim of Erie and Vance Grim of Parkersburg; one daughter, Carmen Queen of Parkersburg; one stepson, Robert Perry of Erie; four step-daughters, Roxie Jobes of Vincent, Ethel Monroe and Molly Powell, both of Parkersburg, and Sue Wickline of Union; several grandchildren; and one brother, Gladson Grim of Newark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Perry Grim, in 1981; two brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Word of God Ministries Church, with Rev. Lynn Roush and Rev. Tim Henson officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

GROGG, PAUL R.

Paul R. Grogg, 60, of Chloe, died Tuesday, Mar. 21, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, after a brief illness. He was born in Elmira, Braxton County, a son of the late Ora and Gertrude Lamb Grogg. He had retired from Teledyne Monarch Rubber Co., Hartville, Ohio, and was a member of Arnoldsburg Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen Hirsch Grogg; two sons, Richard P. Grogg of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Hood, Tex., and Brian Keith Grogg of Chloe; one daughter, Tina Marie DeWeese of Statesville, N.C.; five sisters, Jean Siers, Sue Mullins and Norma Rose, all of Chloe, Lottie Clouser of Akron, Ohio, and Loretta Gray of Belpre; three brothers, Frank Grogg of Chloe, Gary Grogg of Medina, Ohio, and Ted Grogg of Stowe, Ohio; two half-brothers, Bill Grogg and Mike Grogg, both of Buckhannon; and his stepmother, Vola Grogg of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lee Grogg. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Lamb cemetery, Chloe.

GUMM, JENNINGS E.

Jennings E. "Mott" Gumm, 68, of Smithville, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. He was born in Eva, a son of the late Forest Lake and Hester Dailey Gumm. He worked in Ritchie County oil fields and for Union Pipeline 798 for 31 years until retiring. He was a veteran of the armed services. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Jackie Burnside Gumm; his stepmother, Phebe Gumm of Smithville; one son, John Gumm of Cox's Mills; four daughters, Linda Bush, Susan Frymier, Judy Johnson, all of Smithville, and Cindy Nichols of St. Marys; two brothers, Denzil "Jack" Gumm of Grantsville and Burl Gumm of Parkersburg; three sisters, Helen Rapp of Summersville, Ruby Bailey of Columbus, Ohio, and Connie Badgett of Minnora; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Hardman Chapel, with Rev. Macks Lilly officiating. Burial was in Hardman Chapel cemetery.

HALBERT, RUBY

Ruby Frances Halbert, 90, of Charles McDaniel Resthome, Jacksonville, N.C., died Friday, Feb. 3, 1995, after an extended illness. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late John H. and Ester Goff Hayhurst. She was a former resident of Youngstown and Munday. She was a licensed practical nurse and was instrumental in the system of licensing practical nurses in Ohio. Surviving are two sons, Roger E. Halbert of Jacksonville and Milton R. Halbert of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, June Smith of Jane Lew; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Halbert; one daughter, Renevaun Halbert; and 11 brothers and sisters. Services were held at Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, Munday, with Rev. David L. Pierotti officiating. Burial was in Wolverton cemetery.

HALL, ELLA GRACE

Ella Grace Hall, 55, of Arnoldsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center. She was born at Island Run, Roane County, a daughter of Mabel M. Metz of Arnoldsburg, and the late Vear Metz. She was a former employee of Kellwood Co. and Norris Industries, Spencer. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Donald R. Hall; two sons, Michael Mace of Arnoldsburg and Daniel Mace of Strasburg, Va.; two stepsons, Andy Hall and Ronald Hall, both of North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Lori Lyons of North Carolina; four sisters, Mary Butler and Emogene Bowers, both of Spencer, Elsie Hamrick of Clinton, Ohio, and Bertha Dyer of Jeffersonville, Ky.; one brother, Olen Metz of Millersburg, Ohio; two grandchildren; and one step grandchild. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Wilson cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

HALL, NETTIE MAE

Nettie Mae Hall, 85, of Beech, near Minnora, died Thursday, June 22, 1995, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, after an extended illness. She was born near Spencer, a daughter of the late Herman and Lillie Price Bower. She was a homemaker and attended Beech United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Darrell Hall of Parkersburg, Doyle Gene Hall of Spencer and Donald Hall of Arnoldsburg; one daughter, Helen Whytsell of Spencer; one sister, Hettie Shaffer of Grantsville; one half-brother, Verdon Boone of Florence, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hall, in 1989. Services were held at Beech United Methodist Church with Rev. Homer Hensley officiating. Burial was in Bailey cemetery.

HAMILTON, RICHARD

Dr. Richard Hamilton, 93, of St. Marys, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late John M. and Minnie Cook Hamilton. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Harvard Medical School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medical officer in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and cluster, and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He established his medical practice in 1930, practicing in St. Marys for more than 50 years, and was instrumental in establishing the blood bank in Pleasants County as a member of the Red Cross. He was a member of American Medical Association, West Virginia Medical Association, Parkersburg Academy of Medicine, St. Marys Kiwanis Club, and Eureka Masonic Lodge 40, AF&AM, Grantsville. He received the Silver Buffalo and Silver Beaver for his work in the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of St. Marys Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. Surviving are one son, Richard Hamilton of Denver; one daughter, Francis White of Cardif, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Douglas Hamilton, in 1990; 10 brothers; and four sisters. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at St. Marys IOOF cemetery. Arrangements were by Ruttencutter Funeral Home, St. Marys.
