HAMRICK, RUSSELL D.

Russell D. Hamrick, 70, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Orma, died Monday, Jan. 9, 1995, at his sister's residence in Lakeland, Fla., after a brief illness. He was born in Orma, a son of the late John Kyle and Zana Parsons Hamrick. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired railroad inspector. He was a two-year resident of Sebring, and was formerly of Spokane, Wash. He was a Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, Shrine, American Legion, and Christian Missionary Alliance, Sebring. Surviving are his wife, Carmen Hamilton Hamrick; two daughters, Rita Orich of Kenton, Ohio, and Judy Sanchez of Hammond, Ind.; one sister, Murlene Morris of Lakeland; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Madeline Boren; and one brother, Ruffner Hamrick. Services were held at Orma United Methodist Church, Orma, with Rev. James Moss officiating. Burial was in Orma cemetery, with Masonic rites.

SUTTON, EDNA M.

Edna M. Hostottle Sutton, 91, of Worthington Manor Care Center, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the center. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Amos and Carrie Gainer Little. She attended Waverly Presbyterian Church and was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 58 of Williamstown and World War I Ladies Auxiliary 456. Surviving are two sons, Roy B. Hostottle of Mt. Clemens, Mich., and Everett "Bud" Hostottle of Waverly; one daughter, Thelma M. Queen of Lenoir, N.C.; one sister, Laurel J. Little of Belpre; two stepsons, Clayton Sutton of Sun City, Ariz., and Tom Sutton of West Union; one step-daughter, Roselene Carlton of Bend, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and 24 step-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett Hostottle; her second husband, Ernest Sutton; two sons, Gordon E. Hostottle and Jimmy Hostottle; one step-son, Ernest Sutton, Jr.; two brothers, Glen Little and Oley Little; three sisters, Pauline Cline, Ruby Whited and Mildred Little; and one great-grandson, Coley Spencer. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with her nephew, Rev. Steve Whited, officiating, and burial in Lubeck cemetery.

TALYOR, DELPHIA

Delphia Taylor, 66, of Walker, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John and Mary Ann Bell Kerby. She was a housewife and lived most of her life in the Calhoun and Wirt County area. Surviving are one son, Roger Taylor of Elizabeth; one stepson, William Lloyd Taylor of Troy; one daughter, Cathy Ellis of Winifred; two stepdaughters, Ada McCallister of Big Springs and Maxine Sabatino of Freeport; two brothers, Bernard Kerby and Joe Kerby, both of Grantsville; two sisters, Nellie Godfrey and Maude Sampson, both of Grantsville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Taylor; two stepsons, Cecil Taylor and Charles Taylor; one stepdaughter, Norrene Browning; two brothers; one sister; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. Services were held at Matheny-Pomeroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Raymond Ray officiating. Burial was in Taylor cemetery, Calhoun County.

TANNER, CLEORA STARCHER

Cleora Starcher Tanner, 93, of South Charleston, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at her residence after a short illness. She was born Nov. 9, 1903, at Grantsville, a daughter of the late Jacob Adam and Sarah Jane Marks Starcher. She was a homemaker, former cook at DePue Hospital, Spencer, and former employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio. She was a Baptist. Surviving are three daughters, Helen Howard and Stella Anderson, both of Spencer, and Frances Waybright of South Charleston (with whom she made her home); two sons, Hershel Tanner of Charleston and Arley Tanner of Ripley; one sister, Virginia Badgett of Parkersburg; one brother, Lockard Starcher of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert M. Tanner; one grandchild, Arley Waybright; five brothers, Vince Starcher, Dare Starcher, Gay Starcher, Lexley Starcher and Colmer Starcher; and five sisters, Olive Saunders, Irene Starcher, Mamie Starcher, Delsie Starcher and Elsie Starcher. Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Charles L. Davis officiating. Burial was in Spencer Memorial cemetery.

TANNER, CORA

Cora Tanner, 96, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at St. Thomas Hospital, Akron. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Silas Grant and Sara Jane Hunt Cottrill. She was a homemaker and a member of Arnoldsburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are four daughters, Leula Gay Tanner of Orma, Geraldine King of Grantsville, and Etta May Tanner and Betty Lou Goad, both of Akron; four sons, Virgil Tanner of Reedy, Everett Tanner of Akron, Roy Junior Tanner of Detroit, Mich., and Willard Tanner of California; one brother, Buck Cottrill of Arnoldsburg; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grand- children. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Tanner, and one daughter, Leah Settles. Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m.

TAYLOR, CLARENCE V.

Clarence V. Taylor, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997. He was born in Big Bend, a son of Rhoda Taylor and the late William Taylor. Surviving in addition to his mother are four sons, Cecil Taylor of Pennsylvania, Leonard Taylor of Washington, D.C., Denver Taylor of Big Springs, and Eugene Taylor of California; two sisters, Hazel Somerville and Goldie Kabasky; one brother, James Taylor of Indiana; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, an infant of Akron, Ohio, and Andy Taylor of Michigan; one sister, Sarah Taylor of Glenville; one brother, Edward Taylor of Barberton, Ohio; and two nieces, Margie Lawrence and Rhoda Morris. Private services were held at the convenience of the family.

TOWNSEND, EVELYN

Evelyn A. Townsend, 88, of Spencer, died Thursday, Mar. 13, 1997, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born at Leatherbark, a daughter of the late James J. and Castine Virginia Marks Ash. She attended Leatherbark Community Church, Amoldsburg. Surviving are one brother, Glennis Ash of Spencer; three halfsisters, Barbara Marks and Frances Tanner, both of Arnoldsburg, and Nancy Starcher of Big Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Townsend; and two brothers, Dennis Ash and Harley Ash; and one sister, Ila Church. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

TURNER, LEONA J.

Leona J. Turner, 60, of Glenville, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at her daughter's residence in Clendenin. She was born in Braxton County, a daughter of Hertha Dennison of Sand Fork and the late Richard Dennison. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving in addition to her mother are three daughters, Rose Nicholson of Clendenin, Rena Turner of Akron, Ohio, and Connie Lattea of Glenville; three sons, Joe Gosling and Ronnie Gosling, both of Glenville, and Johnny Gosling, address unknown; two sisters, Susan Carl Barr of Grantsville and Eileene Etto of Lake Milton, Ohio; four brothers, Junior Dennison of Cedarville, John Dennison, Oscar L. Dennison and Danny Dennison, all of Glenville; and 28 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Turner, and two brothers. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., Glenville. Burial was in King cemetery, Copen, Braxton County.

ULLUM, KATHRYN J. HOSEY

Kathryn J. Hosey Ullum, 58, of Jackson Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at Columbia Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Big Bend, a daughter of the late Parker and Inda Goodnight Hosey. She was an area resident since 1957. She was a retired school bus driver for Jackson Local Schools. She was a member of Friendship Club, Massillon Senior Center, A.A.R.P. 3336, T.O.P.S., and Massillon Baptist Temple. Surviving are one son, Douglas Ullum of Columbus; one brother, Ronald Hosey of Grantsville; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Ullum and Samantha Ullum, both of Columbus. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. Services were held at Massillon Baptist Temple, with Rev. Mark Jacobs officiating. Burial was in Betts cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Associa- tion/Children's Miracle Network, 4867 Fulton Drive N.W., Canton, Ohio 44311.

UNDERWOOD, RUSSELL

Russell J. Underwood, 85, of Elizabeth, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wirt County, a son of the late L.C. and Georgia Cheatham Underwood. He worked for Huffman's Transport for many years before his retirement from the Teamsters Union. He also had worked as a mechanic at Ford Brothers, Marietta. He was a member of Hartley Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Goldie McCroskey Underwood; one son, James R. Underwood of McFarlan; two sisters, Rita Parsons of Coropolis, Pa., and Juanita Burford of Parkersburg; one grandson, Donnie Underwood of Grantsville; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Underwood; one infant daughter; and one brother. Services were held at Matheny-Pomeroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Evangelist Eugene Conger officiating. Burial was in Hartley cemetery.

VANDALE, JEFF SR.

Jeff Vandale, Sr., 71, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late William and Ivy Mahan Vandale. He was a retired farmer and a former teamster in the timber industry. Surviving are his wife, Frances R. Boggs Vandale of Spencer; two daughters, Barbara Ann Vandale and Sheila Jean Vandale, both of Spencer; one son, Jeffie Vandale, Jr., of Spencer; one stepdaughter, Twila Mae Montgomery of Spencer; three stepsons, Chester Hart of Billings, Mont., Charles Hart of Shenandoah, Va., and Ronald Hart of Arnoldsburg; two sisters, Helen Savage of Pomeroy and Delores Ray Strickland of Palmetto, Ga.; one brother, Fred Vandale of Spencer; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Vandale and Delbert Ray Vandale; and one sister, Pearl Sisson. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Timothy Bess officiating. Burial was in Snyder cemetery, Wirt County. Memorials may be made to Jeff Vandale Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o Taylor- Vandale Funeral Home, 206 Beauty St., Spencer, WV 25276.

VAUGHAN, ELVA V.

Elva V. Vaughan, 79, of Grantsville, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the residence of her daughter in Dunbar. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Letha Kimble Wright. She attended Glenville State College and was an active civic leader in Grantsville. She was instrumental in the development of Bramblewood Village and Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was a charter member of Calhoun General Hospital Auxiliary, member of Grantsville Civic Club and former officer in Grantsville Chapter of American Red Cross. She contributed to the recruitment of many physicians into the Grantsville community. She and her husband were honored by having Vaughan Road named after them. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Grantsville. Surviving are one son, J. Michael Vaughan of Williamstown; three daughters, Caroline Charonko of Charleston, Susan Vaughan of Dunbar and Jeannie Tanner of Vienna; two sisters, Leota Yoak of Titusville, Fla., and Norita Ballato of Follansbee; one brother, Loyd T. Wright of Fleming; two half-brothers, John Wright of Lynnhurst, Ohio, and David Wright of East Lake, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Vaughan; and one daughter, Patricia Boyd. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. William Taylor officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

VAUGHAN, EMMA

Emma Ella Vaughan, 91, of Dundalk, Md., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, in Johns-Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, Md., after an extended illness. She was born at Frozen, a daughter of the late William (Buddy) Anderson and Cynthia Elizabeth Cox Hunt. She was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Teresa King of Dundalk, with whom she made her home; one sister, Gladys Parsons of Mercer, Pa.; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Vaughan; three sons, Charles King, Wesley Arnold, and Ray Downey; and several brothers and sisters. Graveside services were conducted at Orma cemetery with Rev. Donald D. Dawson officiating.
