WILLIAMS, LOUELLA E.

Louella E. Williams, 86, of Tanner, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Harmon and Cora Stalnaker Haney. She was formerly employed by Gilmer County Board of Education in Tanner High School's food service department and was a member of Three Poplar Baptist Church, Tanner. Surviving are one daughter, Wilma J. Capps of Tanner; two sons, William B. McCartney of Blacksburg, Va., and French McCartney, Jr., of Walker; one brother, Woodrow Haney of Akron; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, French McCartney, Sr.; second husband, Thurman Williams; two sons, James McCartney and Willard McCartney; one sister; and eight brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial was in Three Poplar cemetery.

WILSON, ARTHUR J., SR.

Arthur James Wilson, Sr., 87, formerly of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Boonville Convalescent Center, Boonville, Ind. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late George Washington and Dora Wilson. He was retired from Corning Glass, where he was a carpenter for 32 years. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Dugan and Barbara Mullen, both of Parkersburg; one son, Arthur J. Wilson, Jr., of Chandler, Ind.; two sisters, Sylvia Lowther of Waverly and Opal Roberts of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy J. Wilson; two brothers, Russell Wilson and Keith Wilson; two sisters, Margaret Lowther and Lottie Putnam; and one granddaughter, Lilian Jane Mullen. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mike Lambe officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.

WILSON, BURLEY A.

Burley A. Wilson, 72, of Jeromesville, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Clareth Shimer Wilson of Five Forks and the late Bernard Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having been a prisoner of war in Germany. He was retired from Ohio State Dept. of Corrections, Mansfield, Ohio. He was a member of VFW Post 3494, American Legion, Sons of Heman, Minute Men, and Disabled American Veterans, all of Mansfield, and American Veterans Post 31, Ontario, Ohio. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one son, Roger Wilson of Big Springs; one daughter, Charlotte Freed of Parkersburg; one sister, Ilene Wager of Big Springs; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Gainer cemetery, Big Springs.

WILSON, LOWELL E.

Lowell E. Wilson, 83, of Ripley, formerly of Arnoldsburg, died Thursday, Mar. 27, 1997, at Elder Care of Ripley. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Fred and Maggie Shimer Stump. She was a homemaker and was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Jean Vanosse of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonzo Wilson; one son, Robert M. Wilson; one daughter, Stella Hall; one brother, Harlan Stump; and one sister, Goldie Vannoy. Services were held at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, Arnoldsburg, with elders Michael Richardson and Darrell Hashman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

WILSON, MAE B.

Mae B. Wilson, 71, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Mar. 25, 1997, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Zemoriah and Bessie Mae Stafford Selmon. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are one daughter, Mathilda Dull of Dallas, Tex., one son, Eddie Wilson of Sanger, Tex.; one sister, Rosie Collins of Arnoldsburg; two brothers, Robert Selmon of Big Otter and Harry Selmon of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Wilson; two infant daughters; one infant son; two sisters; and three brothers. Services were held at Broomstick Community Church, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Broomstick cemetery.

WOLFE, DENNIE G.

Dennie G. Wolfe, 93, of St. Marys, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Dennie G. and Anna Hively Wolfe. He moved to Pleasants County in 1947. He was employed by American Cyanamid Co. for more than 21 years prior to his retirement in 1969. He was elected magistrate in 1976. He was a guard at West Virginia Penitentiary, Moundsville, and was a constable in Calhoun County. He was a 50-year member of Moriah Lodge 38, AF&AM, Spencer, and was a Royal Arch Mason. He was a life member of American Rifleman. One of 10 children, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Marie Rider Wolfe. Services were held at Ruttencutter Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Rev. Darrel L. Gooden officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery, Parkersburg.

HASHMAN, GEORGE W.

George W. Hashman, 78, formerly of Elizabeth, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1995, at Eldercare of Ripley after an extended illness. He was born in Ritchie County and was a lifelong farmer. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Estella Hedrick Hashman of Mt. Zion; one daughter, Diana McKay of Mt. Zion; one sister, Betty Shears of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Donald E. Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Roberts cemetery, Munday.

HATHAWAY, EUGENE C.

Eugene C. Hathaway, 67, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1995. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace in 1988 with 34 years service. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Amos Englebeck Lodge 751. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Helen; two sons, Glenn (Wendy) of Milledgeville, Ga., and Gordon (Tracy) of Ravenna, Ohio; three daughters, Faye (Ted) Lawson of Bristol, Va., and Judy (Roy) Poe and Pamela (Mark) VanLieu, all of Akron; daughter-in-law, Linda Hathaway of Akron; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother, Tennie Hathaway of Akron; and sister, Emogene (Eugene) Hupp of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe; father, Oral B. Hathaway; and brother, Leon. Services were held at Hopkins Funeral Home, with Pastor John Kinser officiating. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.

HATHAWAY, OLIS

Olis Hathaway, 80, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, Mar. 15, 1995, at Knox Community Hospital, Mt. Vernon, after an extended illness. He was born in Grantsville, a son of Sida and Matilda Summers Hathaway. He had been a Mt. Vernon resident since 1959 and retired in 1980 from Weyerhaeuser Co., Mt. Vernon, after 32 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon, where he was a member of Altiora Sunday School Class. He was a member of Harvest Years Club and Union Local 535 at Weyerhaeuser. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Fogle Hathaway; two daughters, Helen L. Parrott of Porter, Tex., and Ruth Ann Owens of Parkersburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Homer Hathaway of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Services were held at Snyder Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Neal Loch officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.

HATHAWAY, ROSCOE

Roscoe Hathaway, 86, died Friday, Jan. 13, 1995, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Grantsville and resided in the Wadsworth and Barberton area for 50 years. He was a pipefitter with Local 219, retiring in 1973. He was a faithful member of Akron Baptist Temple. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna; sons and daughters-in- law, Denzil G. and Fran, Robert D. and Shirley, all of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Bill, Michele Tomon, Chris Miller, Bryan, Jayne Peterson, Tim and Carla Hathaway; great-grandchildren, Josh, Jessica, Jaime, Jennifer, Ricky, Bryan, Zack, Amber, Matthew, Alissa, Courtney, and Chelsea; and brothers, Olis of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Homer of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Services were held at Hilliard Cox Mullaney Funeral Home, Wadsworth, with Rev. Michael L. Nichols officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

HAUGHT, ELLIOTT M.

Elliott M. Haught, 74, of Fremont, Calif., died Tuesday, Mar. 7, 1995. He was born in Calhoun County, the only son of the late McClellan and Verna Elliott Haught. He was retired from Peterbilt. Surviving are his wife, Yvonne S. Haught of Fremont; one son, Gregory Haught of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one daughter, Linda D. Haught of Los Gatos, Calif.; two sisters, Grace H. Stump of Millstone and Lena E. King of Olathe, Kan.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Laura Haught of Walnut Creek. Memorial services and burial were in California.

HELMICK, SPENCER RAY

Spencer Ray Helmic, 77, of Minnora, died Friday, June 2, 1995, at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital, Clarksburg, after an extended illness. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Preston and Mary King Helmic. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a farmer, timberman and oil field worker. He was a member of Milo United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Viola Cottrell Helmic; one son, Curtis Lee Helmic of Minnora; one daughter, Mary Juanita Boggs of Minnora; two brothers, Albert Helmic of Parkersburg and Roy Preston Helmic of Millstone; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Graveside services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Orma United Methodist Church cemetery, with Rev. Jack Stump officiating.

HELSEL, ALBERT

Albert Helsel, 44, of Bramblewood Village, formerly of Chloe, was found dead Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Cleveland, a son of the late Daniel and Alberta Shingler Helsel. He operated a landscaping business for many years. Surviving are three brothers, Frank Ainsworth and Daniel Helsel, both of Hayward, Calif., and Johnny Helsel of Cleveland; and one sister, Rose Helsel of Hayward. Arrangements pending, Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg.
