HILDRETH, DONNIE DEEL

Donnie Deel Hildreth, 83, of Washington, died Thursday, June 8, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, after a brief illness. She was born in Stinson, a daughter of the late Okey and Alice Cottrell Parsons. She attended the Church of Christ and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Linden Chapter 152. Surviving are two sons, Eugene Deel of Chloe and Roger Deel of Washington; one sister, Orpha Coen of Seville, Ohio; one brother, Ronzel Parsons of Winterhaven, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arley M. Deel; and her second husband, Roy Hildreth. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Minnora cemetery.

HILL, OLIN

Olin Hill, 80, of Grantsville, a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor from World War II, died Friday, Aug. 18, 1995, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Mahone, Ritchie County, a son of the late Frank and Olive Valentine Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater where he was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service in France and the Congressional Medal of Honor in Germany. He was a retired elementary school principal in Ritchie, Mason, Calhoun and Roane counties. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church; Eureka Lodge 40, AF&AM, Grantsville; Order of Eastern Star, Harrisville; Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies; Nemesis Shrine Temple, Parkersburg; Minnora IOOF Lodge 246, and Rebecca Lodge, Minnora. Surviving are his wife, Oleta Yoak Hill; one brother, Frank Hill, Jr., of Massillon, Ohio; five sisters, Freda Jones of Mount Eaton, Ohio, Hazel Hatfield and Oma Smith, both of Vienna, Virgil Allen of Massillon and Mary Davis of Newberry, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Conley Hill. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Paul Morrison, Rev. John Glessner and Rev. Margaret Schmidtz officiating. Burial was in King Knob cemetery, Mahone, with Masonic graveside rites.

HOCKEY, OPAL PROUDFOOT

Opal Proudfoot Hockey, 86, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Weirton, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 1995, at Baptist Village, Surprise, after an extended illness. She was born in Nettie, a daughter of the late Gona and Ova Idell Hinzman Hardman. She was a graduate of Glenville State College and was a former elementary school teacher for 33 years. She had taught at Liberty Elementary School, Weirton. She was a member of National Education Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star, Grantsville, and served as an elder in Weirton and Sun City, Ariz., Christian churches. Surviving are one daughter, Harriet P. McCoy of Parkland, Fla.; one son, Harold B. Proudfoot of Brookfield, Conn.; one brother, James Hardman of Grantsville; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold B. Proudfoot, and her second husband, Lawson E. Hockey. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Pearson officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, near Grantsville.

HOFMANN, KATHLEEN

Kathleen "Cappy" Hofmann, 55, of Belleville, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 1995, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a brief illness. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Freda Westfall Riddle. She was employed by Excel Logistics Co., formerly Parkersburg Industrial Warehouse, for the past 19 years. Prior to that, she was employed by Eazor Express for 16 years. She was a member of Belleville Baptist Church and Parkersburg Traffic Club. Surviving are her husband, Don Hofmann; one son, Gregory A. Hofmann of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Emma Kellison and Mary Lou Stalnaker, both of Parkersburg, and Peggy Sue Barnes of Cottageville; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. Brent Yancey officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

HOLBERT, MICHAEL JOE

Michael Joe Holbert, 45, of Macfarlan, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman, Okla. He was born in Harrisville, a son of Jean Watson Rittenhouse of Macfarlan, and the late Alvin Holbert. He was formerly employed by Louisiana Offshore Drilling Co., Louisiana, and attended the Church of Christ. Surviving in addition to his mother are one son, Jeremy Holbert of Maysville, Okla.; three daughters, Michelle Espitia, Tara Lynn Holbert and Lori Beth Holbert, all of Maysville; maternal grandfather, O.P. Watson of Smithville; one grandson; one granddaughter; three brothers, Ronald Holbert and Randall Holbert, both of Raceland, La., and Stephen Holbert of Parkersburg; one sister, Sheila Mapp of Gonzales, La.; stepfather, Russell Rittenhouse of Macfarlan; stepbrother, Joe Rittenhouse of Parkers-burg; three stepsisters, Patty Rittenhouse of Parkersburg, Debbie Allman of New York and Jennie Ice of Parkersburg; and several relatives in Calhoun County. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Larry Hayes officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery, Harrisville.

HOLBERT, OLIVER C.

Oliver C. Holbert, 64, of Big Bend, died Wednesday, Mar. 8, 1995, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Dorcey and Roxie Boggs Holbert. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from U.S. Steel, Cleveland. He was a member of Spruce Hollow Community Church, near Big Bend. Surviving are two daughters, Debra Nicholson and Tina Ulderich, both of Big Bend; two sons, Ivan Holbert and Alvin Holbert, both of Big Bend; two sisters, Doris Kelly of Spencer and Janet Poling of Grantsville; one brother, Starling Holbert of Grantsville; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Walker Holbert, in 1990; one grandchild, Michelle Holbert; two brothers, Charles Holbert and Owen Holbert; and one sister, Ada Holbert. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, near Big Bend.

HOLBERT, WILLIAM B.

William Blaine Holbert, 76, of Richfield, Ohio, formerly of Big Springs, died Feb. 27, 1995, at Medina General Hospital, Medina, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was born in Freed, a son of the late Branson and Cora Snider Holbert. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and was retired from Ford Motor Co., Brook Park, Ohio. Surviving are his wife, Roannna Ford Holbert of Richfield; two sons, William Larry Holbert of Richfield and Richard Holbert of Wadsworth, Ohio; one sister, Luella Plazzet of Cleveland; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Pearson officiating. Burial was in Saunders cemetery, Big Springs.

HOSEY, VICTORIA G.

Victoria G. "Betty" Hosey, 61, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 1995, at her residence. She was born in Apple Farm, a daughter of the late David Myrrh and Bessie Viola Suttle Wilson. Surviving are four daughters, Patricia Hosey, Barbara Schossler, Wanda Wyant and Carol Morgan, all of Cuyahoga Falls; two sons, Gary Hosey of Cuyahoga Falls and David Hosey of Pullman; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hosey, in 1988, and one grandson. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Ronald Swiney officiating, and burial in Betts cemetery, near Grantsville.

HUGHES, BEVERLY JEAN

Beverly Jean "B.J." Hughes, 44, of Wells Lock Road, Elizabeth, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 1995, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, after a brief illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of Opal Osborne of Five Forks and the late Donald Osborne. She was employed at Dotson's Exxon, Elizabeth. She was a member of Big Island Run United Methodist Church and Parkersburg TOPS Chapter 141. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Orval Hughes, Jr.; three sons, Michael Hughes of Parkersburg and Mitchell Hughes and Gregory Hughes, both of Elizabeth; one foster son, Delmer Murray of Elizabeth; one foster daughter, Melissa Sands of Elizabeth; five sisters, Diana Knight and Zelma Osborne, both of Five Forks, Brenda Harper of Kimbolton, Ohio, Donna Knight of Titusville, Pa., and Connie Boggs of Creston; two brothers, Donnie Ray Osborne and Roger Osborne, both of Five Forks; three grandchildren; and two foster grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. William D. Stutler and Rev. Tim Bell officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth.

HYDER, MARTHA STUMP

Martha Stump Hyder, 80, of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Mar. 5, 1995, at St. Claire Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Ernest and Minnie Lydick Stump. She was a retired legal secretary who worked in Parkersburg and Charleston, and owned and managed racehorses for many years at Pittsburgh's Meadows Race Track. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hyder; and a sister, Maxine R. Stump. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, near Grantsville.

JACKSON, ETHEL BLAIR

Ethel Blair Jackson, 89, of Belpre, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Curtis and Cora Louise Holbert Blair. She was a 70-year resident of Belpre, and retired from Kesterson Launderers after 25 years of service. She was a former member of Belpre Rebekah Lodge and former member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, William E. Jackson, Sr.; three sons, William E. Jackson, Jr., of Port Richey, Fla., James Edward Jackson and Robert Blair Jackson, both of Belpre; two daughters, Pamela Jackson Thomas and Elizabeth Jane Schoolcraft, both of Belpre; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; two brothers Homer Blair of Alabama and Onnie Blair of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; one son, Richard Curtis Jackson; two daughters, Cora Louise Jackson Smith and Ethel Ann Jackson Rexroad Reilly; one grandson, Robert Blair Jackson II; and one granddaughter, Molly Reilly. Services were held at Spencer Funeral Home, Belpre. Burial was in Rockland cemetery, Belpre.

JARVIS, ANNA BELL

Anna Bell Jarvis, 81, of Chloe, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, at Roane General Hospital, after an extended illness. She was bon in Clay County, a daughter of the late Joshawa and Eliza Ellen Miller Tanner. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Surviving are one daughter, Virgie Crossley of Newark, Del.; eight sons, Henry Lee Jarvis amd Larry Paul Jarvis, both of Nebo, Roscoe Burlyn Jarvis of Creston, Ohio, Russell Wayne Jarvis, Roger Dale Jarvis, Marvin Lewis Jarvis and Rick Lynn Jarvis, all of Chloe, and Roger Allen Jarvis of Caldwell; two sisters, Clara Tanner and Mary Drake, both of Chloe; one brother, James Hunter Tanner of Creston; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Jarvis; one daughter, Agnes Tanner; one son, Ray Jennings Tanner; two sisters, Ruth Lyon and Manda Murphy; and five brothers, Bill Tanner, Owen Tanner, Ernest Tanner, Sherdon Tanner and Robert Tanner. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Burial was in Coen cemetery, Nebo.

JARVIS, MADGE M.

Madge M. Jarvis, 82, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Joshua P. and Malissa James Parsons. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion. Surviving are three sisters, Pearl Minney of Glenville, Maple McKinney of Reston, Va., and Mary Hart of Belpre; and a brother, Decoe Parsons of Herndon, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolpha Jarvis; a son, Lewis Blaine Jarvis; three brothers; and three sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
