Mary Ruth Jett, 74, of Lowell, died Monday, April 17, 1995, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born in Nicut, a daughter of the late Jess and Nettie Keaton Griffin. She had resided in Lowell since 1978, and retired from BF Goodrich, Marietta, after 20 years of service. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Lowell. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Ralph D. Jett; one daughter, Linda Armann of Powhatan Point, Ohio; three grandchildren, Elwin Armann, Jeffery Armann and Ruth Armann; and two sisters, Iva Stacey and Sally Smith, both of Reno. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Woodrow Griffin, Wilbert Griffin and Vance Griffin. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Cawley and Peoples Funeral Home, Lowell, with Rev. Robert Schafer officiating, and burial in Oak Grove cemetery, Marietta.
JETT, STELLA MAE Stella Mae Jett, 68, of Orma, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 1995, at Roane General Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Pete and Vesta Sharps Wayne. She was a former owner and operator of Jett's General Stores of Arnoldsburg and Creston, and a member of Minnora Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are one daughter, Marie Luzader of Orma; one son, Kenneth Jett of Palestine; one sister, Thelma Dennis of Zanesville, Ohio; one brother, Pete Wayne of Zanesville; and seven grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jett, in 1984. Services were scheduled Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating, and burial in Minnora cemetery.

Thelma Johnson, 84, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, at Americare Nursing Home, Glenville, after an extended illness. She was born in Joker, a daughter of the late William and Samara Smith Mahaney. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Grantsville, where she served as church clerk for 32 years. Surviving are one daughter, Virginia Lee Riddel of Tarzana, Calif.; one son, George A. Johnson of New Martinsville; one sister, Ottie Kimble of Charleston; one half-brother, Max Mahaney of Eastland, Tex.; five half-sisters, Gail Godfrey of Grantsville, Maxine Chambers and Beulah Norton, both of New Cumberland, Barbara Zajac of Steubenville, Ohio, and Mary Lou Mahaney of Toronto, Ohio; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Johnson, in 1991; and 15 brothers and sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Adren G. Jones, 86, of Glenville, died Sunday, April 23, 1995, at his daughter's residence in Parkersburg, after a brief illness. He was born near Leading Creek in Gilmer County, a son of the late John B. and Cornella Jane Burwell Jones. He was a retired educator, farmer and deputy assessor for Gilmer County. He served 12 years as a Gilmer County commissioner, and over 20 years as a West Virginia Soil Conservation District Supervisor. He was a member of Gilmer County Farm Bureau and Gilmer County Park & Recreation Commission, and a former member of Gilmer County ASCS. He was a member of Glenville First Baptist Church for over 70 years, having served as deacon. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Freeda Opal Woofter Jones; three daughters, Tonabell Turner of Parkersburg, Deronda Rickman of Williamstown and Wandalene Drake of Glenville; two sons, Lyndall Jones of Parkersburg and Randall C. Jones of Mt. Zion; one sister, Irene Fox of Glenville; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Raymel A. Jones; one daughter, E. Wilodene Currence; and two brothers, Clyde Jones and Orlan Jones. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Glenville Baptist Church, with Rev. Fred Mulneix and David Carpenter officiating, and burial in Meadow Lane cemetery, Glenville.

She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Robert M. and Hilda Gherke Shock. She was a homemaker and a member of Rush Run Baptist Church. Beulah J. Jones, 80, of Ravenna, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 1995, after a sudden illness. She was born in Big Bend, the daughter of William and Sarah Reynolds Hamric. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, James; two sons, William David and Michael, both of Ravenna; five daughters, Maxine McClusky, Shirley Vanderpool and Rose Riddle, all of Ravenna, Dolly Smith of Rootstown and Hazel Greer of Alabama; 27 grandchildren; 40 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Junior Hamric and Bobbie Hamric of West Virginia; and one sister, Virgie Goodnight of Ravenna. She was preceded in death by sons, James and Eugene; five brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with Rev. William White officiating. Burial was in Grandview-Memorial Park, Ravenna.
KALMAN, ROBERT F.
MG/Sgt. Robert F. Kalman of Bowie, Md., a retired military band musician, died Monday, June 12, 1995, at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md. He was a former resident of North Olmsted, Ohio, and the son of the late Frank and Barbara B. Kalman. He studied at Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and retired from U.S. Marine Corps Band with 31 years of service. He played the bassoon and served with the Bicentennial Band for three years. During retirement, he performed many public service duties for his community and Church of the Nazarene, College Park, Md. He most recently drove a school bus for Prince George's County. He is survived by his wife, Leora; two daughters, Kathryn Burkhardt and Clara Minnick; one son, SPC Owen David Kalman, a chaplain assistant with the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. McNair, Va.; three grandchildren, Kayla, Chelsea and Lauren; and one sister, Margaret Sik of Greenville, S.C. His wife, the former Leora Mae Palmer, graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1952 and was employed with the FBI, Washington, D.C., for several years. Her sister is Clara Belle Newell of Grantsville. A military funeral was held at Evans Funeral Home, Bowie, with military burial at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Pansy Kathryn Kanyak, 93, of Sebring, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illenss. She was born at Euclid, July 9, 1901, a daughter of the late Robert J., Sr., and Lillie M. Mace Knotts. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church, Sebring. She had resided in Florida since 1965, moving there from Calhoun County. Surviving are her husband, Michael Kanyak; two step-daughters, Marilyn Renn of Alton, Mich., and Delores Ovcen of Caseville, Mich.; two step-sons, Junior Kanyak of Fenten, Mich., and Donald Kanyak of Caseville; two brothers, Robert J. Knotts, Jr., of Grantsville and Walter A. Knotts of Massillon, Ohio; 19 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Alfred H. Baker; two sisters, Ruby L. (Mrs. Cecil ) Stremple and Daisy V. (Mrs. Dallas) Stump; and three brothers, William Bryan Knotts, Sr., Russell P. "Dubb" Knotts, and Henry E. Knotts. Clara M. Kelley, 86, of Elizabeth, formerly of Munday, died T'hursday, Feb. 16, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Annamoriah, a daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Maze Jones. She was a homemaker for 70 years and a member of United Methodist Church and Wirt Co. Senior Citizens. Surviving are seven daughters, Louise Ayers of Walker, Elouise Bonar of Boaz, Betty Boyce and Enojean Rogers, both of Parkersburg, Leona Pettit of Tanner, Madeline Yoak of Grantsville, and Sue Pepper of Munday; one son, Paul Kelley of Munday; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kelley; two sons, Glene Kelley and Don Kelley; four brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren. Mildred J. Kelley, 70, of Spencer, died Friday, Sept. 27, 1995, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Walter T. and Willa L. Sturm Scott. She was a former Spencer State Hospital nurse's aide. She was a member of Wetzel Chapter 39, Order of Eastern Star, and Presbyterian Church, Spencer. She enjoyed flowers. She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of Ava V. Weaver Naylor of East Rochester, Ohio, and the late Edward N. Naylor, granddaughter of the late John G. and Delphia F. Weaver of Nobe, and niece of Mae Jennings and Ova Bragg of Nobe and Mary Yoak of Five Forks. She was employed at Country Inn Restaurant, Hanoverton, Ohio, and attended Baptist Church, Dungannon, Ohio. Surviving are one son, James Delbert Kendrick of the home; six brothers, Frederick Naylor and John Naylor, both of Salem, Ohio, Paul Naylor of California, Arley Naylor and Harley Naylor, both of Parkersburg, and William Naylor of Lisbon, Ohio; one half-brother, Roger Weaver of New Mexico; and five sisters, Shirley Moore of East Rochester, Phyllis Simmons of Ripley, Mae Cottle of Parkersburg, Lura Naylor of Harris, Ohio, and Patricia Byers of Louisville, Ky. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
