RHODABARGER, ELENOR POLING

Word has been received of the deaths of Edra Poling Cundiff, 81, in July, and Elenor Poling Rhodabarger, 86, in October, both of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. They were born in Grantsville, daughters of Waitman and Ella Keener Poling. Surviving are a sister, Mildred Poling Stevens of Cuyahoga Falls, and a brother, Vernon Poling of Florida. They were descendants of Michael Stump IV, pioneer family of Calhoun County.

RICHARDS, CAROL J.

Carol J. Richards, 60, of Big Springs, died Monday, July 3, 1995, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of Lottie Snider Belt of Mineral Wells and the late Carl Belt. She was a member of Hoy Chapel United Methodist Church, Big Springs, and a former employee of Dollar General Store and Garland's Grocery, Grantsville, and was a former postmaster of Big Springs Post Office. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Eugene F. Richards of Big Springs; one daughter, Connie J. Wagoner of Big Bend; two sons, Ricky L. Richards of Grantsville and Russell G. Richards of Big Springs; two sisters, Jean Bush and Marlene Lewis, both of Mineral Wells; one brother, Raymond Belt of Mineral Wells; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Saunders cemetery, near Big Springs.

RICHARDS, FREDA A.

Freda A. Richards, 97, of Big Springs, died Monday, Dec. 26, 1994, at The Willows Nursing Home, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. She was born in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Morgan and Deana K. Shupp Tingler. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving are one daughter, Opal Osborne of Big Springs; one son, Doy Richards of Harrisville; 26 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Richards, in 1966; two sons, Ivan Richards and Erma Richards; two daughters, Oma McHenry and June Bush; five brothers; four sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Nobe cemetery, Nobe.

RICHARDS, GEORGIA L.

Georgia L. Richards, 92, of Big Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 1995, at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in Big Springs, a daughter of the late James F. and Nitha Metz Wilson. She was a homemaker. Surviving are one daughter, Helen Murphy of Brohard; three sons, Harold Richards of Fairview Park, Ohio, Eugene Richards and Jack Richards, both of Big Springs; 30 grandchildren; 45 great- grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clellie Richards, in 1937; six sons; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Nobe cemetery.

RICHARDS, MARVA B.

Marva B. Richards, 70, of Big Bend, died Sunday, Mar. 5, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Frank Holbert and Lola Holbert Props. She was a homemaker and member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Big Bend. Surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Richards and Norma Stirling, both of Big Bend, Brenda Freed of Grantsville and Jill Goodnight of Brohard; three sons, Dennis Richards of Big Bend, Denver Richards and Denzil Richards, both of Walker, 15 grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Richards; two daughters; three brothers; and three sisters. Services were held at Fairview United Methodist Church, Big Bend, with Rev. Robert Wagoner officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

RICHARDS, MATTIE R.

Mattie Rosalie Richards, 58, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1995, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Wood County, a daughter of the late Ivan Clifford and Mary Violet Kelley Hays. She was retired from B.F. Goodrich Co., Grantsville, and was a member of Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, Big Bend. Surviving are her husband, Dennis Ray Richards, Sr.; two daughters, Terry Lee Adkins of Newark, Md., and Tracy Buzzard of Mineral Wells; four sons, Dennis R. Richards, Jr., and Wesley G. Richards, both of Grantsville, Ivan James Richards of Albany, Ga., and Ronald Kelley Richards of Kileen, Tex.; six sisters, Jean Tucker of Rockport, Madeline Gregg, Sheila Miller and Karen Jones, all of Parkersburg, Linda Richards of Vienna and Patty Rogers of Danville, Va.; three brothers, Robert Hays of Mansfield, Ohio, Ivan C. Hays, Jr., of Miami and Larry G. Hays of Beckley; and 12 grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Hunt cemetery, Big Bend.

RICHARDS, PEARL JOYCE

Pearl Joyce Richards, 67, of Ravenna, Ohio, died Friday, May 12, 1995, at her residence. She was born in Big Bend, the daughter of William "Bill" and Sarah Reynolds Hamric. Surviving are one son, Mike Richards of Mantao, Ohio; one daughter, Gloria Richards of Mantao; two sisters, Beulah Jones and Virgie Goodnight, both of Ravenna; and two brothers, Junior Hamric of Parkersburg and Bob Hamric of Ravenna. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; a son, Danny; and five brothers. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park, Ravenna.

RICHARDS, ROBERT E.

Robert Ervin Richards, 67, of Big Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1994. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Rev. Sylvester and Barbara Dye Richards. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the 83rd Reconnaissance Battalion, Third Armored Division, and was a Protestant. Surviving are one sister, Beulah Wright of Big Bend; and one brother, Arden Richards of Belpre. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Big Springs cemetery.

RICHARDS, ROBERT ERVIN

Robert Ervin Richards, 67, of Big Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1995, in Charleston Area Medical Center's Trauma Unit from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Dec. 21, 1994. He was born at Big Springs, Nov 22, 1927, son of Rev. Sylvester and Barbara Dye Richards. He served with the 83rd Reconnaissance Battalion, Third Armored Division at Fort Knox, Ken., in 1951. He spent his earlier years in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to West Virginia. He was a Protestant by faith. He is survived by one sister, Beulah Wright, with whom he resided; one brother and sister-in-law, Arden and Violet Richards of Rt. 2, Belpre, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dewey Richards, Moody Richards, Freeman Richards, and Sylvester Junior Richards; two sisters, Sophie Parks and Elenore Richards; and one half-sister, Dessie McGee. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Big Springs cemetery.

RIDDEL, J. FORREST

J. Forrest "Pete" Riddel, 84, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, following an extended illness. He was born May 9, 1910, in Grantsville, a son of the late Dr. S. W. and Hettie Wolverton Riddel. He was a former employee of the W. Va. State Penitentiary, Moundsville, and was a retired inspector for the W. Va. Dept. of Highways. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Riddel and Clyde Riddel. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Pearson officiating.

RIGGS, MARJORIE M.

Marjorie M. Riggs, 78, of Mt. Zion, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1995, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, after a brief illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Gordon and Rosie Smith Knight. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving are her husband, Leon B. Riggs; one daughter, Kathryn Lydick of Parkersburg; one son, Jerry M. Riggs of Grantsville; two sisters, Doreen Smith of Barberton, Ohio, and Pauline Knight of Parkersburg; three brothers, Robert Knight of Painesville, Ohio, Lewis Knight of Willoughby, Ohio, and Wilbert Knight of Parkersburg; one granddaughter, Lisa Marks; and one great-grandson, Tyler Marks. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Bryner Chapel Church cemetery near Mt. Zion.

RIGGS, ROSCOE B.

Roscoe Bernard Riggs, 77, of Rainelle, formerly of Big Bend, died Thursday, Mar. 16, 1995, at Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Fairlea, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Joseph and Maude Kerby Riggs. Surviving is one sister, Rebecca Ellen Hall of Glenville. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Delbert Kerby officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive cemetery, near Mt. Zion.

ROGERS, BONNIE G.

Bonnie G. Rogers, 76, of Rootstown, Ohio, died Friday, April 14, 1995, at her home following a long illness. She was born in Nicut, daughter of Harrison and Tillie (Sears) Ater. She was a homemaker and a Rootstown resident for 35 years. Surviving are a son, Ronnie Rogers of Ravenna, Ohio; four daughters, Connie Mahony of Akron, Ohio, and Shirley Groves of Rootstown, Kay Lantz of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Betty Menendez of Brimfield, Ohio; three sisters, Eula Carter of Birch River, and Peggy Jozwiak and Pearl Waychoff, both of Mesa, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Rogers, in 1982; a brother, Denzel Ater, in 1983; and a great-granddaughter, Erica Rogers, in 1995. Services were held at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna, Ohio, with Rev. Don Upson officiating. Burial was in Homeland cemetery, Rootstown.

ROGERS, CECIL C.

Cecil C. Rogers, 65, Grantsville, died Monday, Jan. 2, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, after an extended illness. He was born in Frozen Run, a son of the late Oscar and Dorothy Myers Rogers. He retired from the W. Va. Dept. of Highways and was a member of Cherry Fork Church. Surviving are his wife, Florence Irene Rogers; three sons, Darrell Rogers of Berlin Center, Ohio, Delmas Rogers of Five Forks and Frank Rogers of Grantsville; five daughters, Delores Rogers and Jo Ann Rogers, both of Grantsville, Virginia Bower of Williamstown, Ruby Harkness of Newark and Pamela Garrett of Mt. Zion; three brothers, Claude Rogers of Nicut, Shirley Rogers of Grantsville and Hobert Rogers of Ohio; two sisters, Edna Robinson of Confluence, Pa., and Hazel Tackis of Massillon, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Services wee scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating, and burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery, near Grantsville.
