WARD, AMIE

Amie Ward, 78, of Belpre, formerly of Grantsville, died Sunday, Mar. 19, 1995, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late James F. and Elizabeth Modesitt Richards. She was a former employee of Corning Glass Co. of Parkersburg. Surviving are two daughters, Sherlene J. Ward of Belpre, and Connie Diane Sampson of Millstone; two sisters, Zanie Yost of Parkersburg and Mamie Fredrick of Belpre; two granddaughters and one great- granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ward, in 1983; and four brothers. Services will be held Thursday, Mar. 23, 2 p.m., at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 9 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home.

WARD, BERNARD HILTON

Bernard Hilton Ward, 82, died unexpectedly at his home in Atwater, Ohio, Thursday, Dec. 22, 1994. Born in Grantsville, he was a graduate of Garfield High School, Akron, Ohio. He was a resident of Randolph, Ohio, for 48 years. He worked for Umbaugh Co., Ravenna, Ohio, until 1977. He was an inventor, holding three U. S. patents. He was active in several community organizations, including Randolph Lions Club (he was "Lion of the Year" in 1993), Order of Eastern Star Chapter 46, Area Agency on Aging, RSVP of Portage County, and Portage County Society of the Blind. He was a charter member of Ravenna Area Democrats, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Unity Masonic Lodge 12, Ravenna, and a member of Randolph United Methodist Church. He was a medal winner at the Senior Olympics and was a pen pal of Rootstown Elementary School first grade for more than 10 years. He was a World War II veteran and was well-known for his wood carvings and chainsaw art, which won him several awards. Surviving are his second wife, Dovie (married 48 years); one daughter, Dorothy Ward Scott Smith of Jane Lew; his mother, Cora Rose Ward of Oviedo, Fla.; one sister, Madeline, of New Mexico; three granddaughters; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Mona Ball Fowler of Grantsville. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; two grandchildren; a brother, Ursel; and a sister, Velma Boland. In keeping with his love of knowledge and the sciences, Mr. Ward donated his body to Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown, Ohio. Memorial service was held at Randolph United Methodist Church, Randolph.

WRIGHT, BEULAH D.

Beulah D. Richards Wright, 83, of Big Bend, died Wednesday, Mar. 29, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born in Big Springs, a daughter of the late Rev. Sylvester and Barbara Dye Richards. She was a Protestant. Surviving are one brother, Arden Richards, and sister-in-law, Violet Richards of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thurman Wright, in 1987; five brothers, Dewey, Moody, Freeman, Sylvester (Junior), and Ervin; and three sisters, Sophie Parks, Elinore Richards, and Dessie McGee. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial was in Big Springs cemetery.

WRIGHT, OTIS

Otis Wright, 63, of Rushville, Ohio, died Tuesday, April 11, 1995, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Benjamin and Margaret Carpenter Wright. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and worked as a welder. He was a Methodist. Surviving are his wife, Judy Wright; two sons, Michael Wright of New Lexington, Ohio, and Edward Wright of the home; three daughters, including Janet L. Wright of the home; one grandson; and two brothers, Francis Wright of Sandusky, Ohio, and Leon Wright of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by five bothers, Ira Wright, William Grant Wright, Samual Wright, Don Wright and Bernard Wright; and two sisters, Daisy Wright and Gypsy Wright.

YEAGER, WHITT O.

Whitt O. Yeager, 86, of Glenville, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 1995, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Charles "Bud" and Addie Love Westfall Fitzpatrick Yeager. He was retired from Fruehauf Trailer Co., Avon Lake, Ohio. He attended Glenville Community Church. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Tallhammer Yeager; three sons, Glessoner W. Yeager of Parkersburg, Edgar Yeager of Marietta and Tessa Yeager of Grafton, Ohio; one daughter, Aileen Richards Curry of Glenville; one brother, Clay Yeager of Grantsville; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and four step- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thurl Yeager, Edward Yeager and Thaddeus Yeager; one half-brother, Tessa Yeager; four half-sisters, Ferrie Yeager, Ruth Yeager, Bonnie Yeager, and Nora Yeager; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. Burial was in Turner cemetery, Lockney.

YOAK, ALBERTINE P.

Albertine Pearl Yoak, 83, Vienna, formerly of Big Bend, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Frank and Effie Smith Morrison. She was a member of Vienna Baptist Church and Win-A-Couple Sunday School class. Surviving are two daughters, Jean Middleton of Vienna and Joan Chadock of Brookpark, Ohio; two sons, Denver Yoak of Waterford, Ohio, and Raymond Yoak of Huntsville, Utah; three sisters, Lottie Morlan and Loraine Haddox, both of Parkersburg, and Wonaka Collins of Big Springs; three brothers, Jeptha Morrison of Parkersburg, J. P. Morrison of Big Springs and Leonard Morrison of Euclid, Ohio; a stepmother, Blondina Morrison of Five Forks; a half-sister, Eloise Mullens; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Agnew Yoak; and two brothers. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Nathan Williams and Russ Yoak officiating, and burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

YOAK, ARVIN J.

Arvin J. Yoak, 73, of Grantsville, died Monday, Oct. 2, 1995, at his home after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late William and Bitha Brown Yoak. He was a watchmaker, carpenter and cabinetmaker, and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Jean Kelley Yoak; one son, James M. Yoak of Grantsville; two daughters, Carol Taylor of Grantsville and Rosalee Yoak of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Geraldine Stump of Alvaton, Ky., Helen Godbey of Polk City, Fla., and Willa Lea Kelley of Grantsville; and three grandchildren, Angela and Stacy Yoak and Rebecca Taylor. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with Rev. Alfred Hickman and Rev. Peggy Schmitz officiating, and burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

YOST, CHARLES "HENRY'

Charles "Henry" Yost, 98, of Chloe, died Monday, July 3, 1995, at Capital City Nursing Home, Charleston, after an extended illness. He was born in Douglas, a son of the late Jerry and Matilda Hoover Yost. He attended Walker United Methodist Church, near Chloe. Surviving are three sisters, Ellen Wiseman of Duck, Sadie Powell of Ripley, and Wavaline Arnold of Parkersburg; and his caregiver, Ruth Yost of Chloe, with whom he resided. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dealie Santy and Anna Vaughn; and three brothers, Thomas Yost, Theadore Yost, and Fountain Yost. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Yost cemetery, near Chloe.

YOUNG, ORRIS J.

Orris J. Young, 68, of Letter Gap, died Friday, Sept. 22, 1995, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, after a brief illness. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Oscar J. and Rocenna Brown Young. He was a graduate of Normantown High School and a U.S. veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, and was a member of Gilmer County Farm Bureau. Surviving are five nephews, Larry Brown of Belpre, Roger Brown of Windham, Ohio, Gordon Brown of Nashport, Ohio, Eugene Brown of New Franklin, Ohio, and Donald Brown of East Sparta, Ohio; and two nieces, Mary L. Cottrill of Richmond, Ky., and Jeanette Brown of Parkersburg. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Evangelist Roger Brown officiating. Burial was in Brown cemetery near Letter Gap.

ZWOLL, OLIVER A.

Oliver A. Zwoll, 90, died Monday, May 1, 1995. He was born in Oakland, Md., and had lived in the Akron, Ohio, area since 1925. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., and was a member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Merle (Paul) Mullens of Florida and Marla Zwoll of Akron; a daughter-in-law, Edna Zwoll of Orma; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Isabelle Treherne of Byesville, Wilhelmina Zwoll of New Philadelphia and Alice Haver of Dayton; two brothers, Roscoe of Columbus and Gilbert of Summit Station; several nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Chloe Alfred of Orma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ermel, and son, Oliver A., Jr., in 1990. Services were held at Eckard-Baldwin Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Karen C. Hartley officiating. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park.

CAIN, ORVILLE D.

Orville Dale "Inch" Cain, 73, of Walker, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1994, at Oakland Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born in Athens County, a son of the late Mathias D. and Christina Ross Cain. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a military policeman, and had worked for the W. Va. State Road and the City of Parkersburg as a grader operator for several years. He attended Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Stull of Parkersburg and Becky Burris of Farmington, Mo.; five sons, Robert Cain of Grantsville, Richard Cain and David Cain, both of Parkersburg, William Cain of Belpre, and Timothy Cain of St. Marys; two brothers, Walden Cain of Vienna; and Neville Cain of Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Deskins of Vienna and Donna Griffith of Joplin, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Uhl Cain, in 1969; and one brother, Willard Cain. Services were held at Franklin Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Kenny Stewart officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Baptist cemetery.

CALLAHAN, DORA PERRY

Dora Perry Callahan, 92, of Sandyville, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1994, at her residence. She was born in Sandyville, a daughter of the late Phillip Sheridan and Emma Bonto Perry. She was retired from Jackson General Hospital and was a member of Mud Run Church of Christ. Surviving are one daughter, Emmalee Haynes of Sandyville; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren; and a niece, Ethel Perry Stevens of Grantsville. Services were held at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, with Evangelist Maxie Canterbury and Evangelist Ernie Haynes officiating. Burial was in Ravenswood cemetery.

CANNON, LAURA ELLEN

Laura Ellen Cannon, 91, of Vienna, died Monday, May 23, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Simon and Armeda McGee. She was retired from Traveler's Restaurant and was a Catholic. Surviving are one son, Harold Cannon of Vienna; and two grandchildren, Richard Cannon and Cristy Cannon, both of Vienna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cannon; and six brothers, Emory McGee, Hamen McGee, Walter McGee, Roy McGee, Earl McGee and Homer McGee. No services or visitation were planned.
