CREW, REV. NOBLE L.

Rev. Noble L. Crew, H.H.D., 74, of Pennsboro, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 1994, at his resident after a brief illness. He was born in Reedy, a son of the late Delbert L. and Virginia M. Vandal Crew. He was a 1938 graduate of Wirt County High School, attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and Glenville State College. He graduated from West Liberty in 1951 with a bachelor of arts degree in education, and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Georgia. He serviced the Methodist Protestant Church and later the United Methodist Annual Conference of West Virginia for 42-1/2 years. His ministerial service began at Richardsonville Charge in Calhoun County, and encompassed 58 separate churches throughout the state, including Knotts Memorial Methodist Church, Grantsville. He was the first minister to serve the combined First United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church of Pennsboro, which he served for seven years and was later voted pastor emeritus for life by both churches. He retired in 1981, last serving Aldersgate-Hope United Methodist Church, Wheeling. After retirement he was involved in many fraternal and community organizations, including Harmony Lodge 59 AF&AM, O'Dell S. Long Chapter 25, RAM, where he served as past high priest, Pennsboro Commandary 20, Knights Templar, where he was past prelate and past commander, and Order of Eastern Star, Chap. 26, all of Pennsboro, and Ritchie County Ministerial Association. He was a member and past president of Ritchie Co. Commission on Aging and Pennsboro Senior Citizens. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Pennsboro. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Pearl Tippens Crew; one brother, Denver E. Crew of Vienna; and one sister, Christine Tucker of Akron, Ohio. Services are scheduled Thursday, 1 p.m., at McCollough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Rev. Kermit Poling officiating. Burial well be in Merrill's Chapel cemetery, near Elizabeth, with rites by Harmony Lodge 59.

CUNNINGHAM, JERRY D.

Jerry D. Cunningham, 53, of Burning Springs, died Saturday, Oct 29, 1994, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Cremo, the son of Ray and Hallie Mollohan Cunningham. He attended Wirt County schools and graduated from Wirt County High School in 1959. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a construction worker, a member of operating engineers, employed with W. Va. Dept. of Highways of Wood and Wirt counties, and retired from C. O. Erickson Farm of Burning Springs. Surviving along with his parents are two daughters, Mamie Atkins of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Laura Cunningham of Parkersburg; two sisters, Sheila Goldizen of Charleston and Sonja Artibise of Vancouver, British Columbia; one brother, Joseph Cunningham of Elizabeth; one granddaughter, Malisha Atkins of Canal Fulton; two nephews, Rick McClead and Lee Goldizen; two nieces, Cheyenne Cunningham and Mindy McClead; and grandfather, Lanty P. Mollohan of Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by one nephew. Services were held at Matheny Pomroy Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Lewis Villers and Rev. David F. Morris officiating. Burial was in Beatty cemetery of Burning Springs.

DAWSON, SCOTTIE

Scottie Dawson, 93, of Parkersburg, formerly of Joker, died Monday, May 9, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Everett and Ella French Hathaway Gainer. She operated the Joker Post Office for several years and was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of Bryner Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Glen Dawson and John E. Dawson, both of Parkersburg; two daughters, Edna L. Mason of Jacksonville, Ill., and Carolyn J. Elza of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren; two brothers, Everett Gainer of Annamoriah and Lora Gainer of Ocala, Fla.; and one sister, Eleanor Barnes of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Kelsey Dawson; one sister, Audrey Garretson; and two brothers, Artie Gainer and Vernon Gainer. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Bryner Chapel cemetery, near Mt. Zion.

DELANCY, EDNA MAE

Edna Mae Riffle Barker Delancy, 69, of Thomasville, N.C., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 1994, at Liberty House Nursing Center, Thomasville. She was born in Mason County, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Melissa Jane Barker Riffle. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Lewis W. "Bill" Delancy; seven daughters, Phyllis Balderson, Mary J. Whaley, Patsy Bennett and Rebecca Barker, all of Parkersburg; Shirley Lancaster of Grantsville, Anneka Sue Barker of Athens, and Tammy L. Miller of Thomasville; nine sons, Floyd Barker, Jr., of Mineral Wells, James E. Barker, Sr., of Vienna, Earnest Barker, Sr., and Lenzie L. Barker, both of Parkersburg, Billie P. Barker of Wadesville, Bruce Barker of Gallipolis, Ohio, Elmer Barker and Ricky J. Barker, addresses unknown, and Lewis W. Delancy, Jr., of Thomasville; two sisters, Mary Ellen Lindamood of Ravenswood and Freda Seachrist of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Delbert Riffle and Eugene Riffle, both of Parkersburg; 44 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Thomas Barker, in 1974; three sons, Ronald Lee Barker, Donald Lee Barker, and Dwayne Michael Barker; one sister, Minnie King; and two brothers, Willie Audrey Riffle and Elmer Vaughn Riffle. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Franklin Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Michael Lamb officiating, and burial in Ayres cemetery, Ritchie County.

DELANEY, GARY

Rev. Gary Eugene Delaney, 50, of Salem, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 1994, at United Hospital, Clarksburg. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Jimmie and Alma Joy Stewart Delaney of Parkersburg. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was employed by Ashland Oil Co. for 25 years, working as a supervisor in the Clarksburg area. He was currently store manager for Ashland Super-America in Nutter Fort. He was a life member of United Pentacostal Church, was a minister for 12 years, and was currently pastor of Apostolic Pentacostal Stronghold, Salem. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Nancy Lou Delaney; three daughters, Becky Joy Murphy of Salem, and twins Loretta Peck of Grantsville and Laura J. Delaney of Salem; one foster son, Robert Shane Wiley of Salem; three grandchildren; one sister, Carol Cottrell of Parkersburg; four brothers, David M. Delaney and Jimmie Delaney, both of Parkersburg, twins Rick Delaney of Parkersburg and Randy Delaney of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Christian Life Center, Parkersburg, with Rev. Delton Smith officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

DESENZE, SADIEJANE

Sadiejane Desenze, 56, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Aug. 26, 1994, at CAMC General Division, Charleston, after an extended illness. She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, a daughter of the late Howard and Virginia Rose Lee. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Wellsville, Ohio. Surviving are two daughters, Sharee Thrasher of Fairmont and Kim Thrasher of Mt. Zion; one son, James Desenze of Parkersburg; one brother, James Lee of Georgia; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Mt. Zion cemetery, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating.

DOBBINS, ADA BAILEY

Ada Bailey Dobbins, 77, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 1994, at The Willows, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. She was born in Nicut, a daughter of the late Floyd and Della Carter Bailey. She was a member of Stoney Point United Methodist Church, Arnoldsburg. Surviving are one daughter, Rosalee Minney of Parkersburg; three stepdaughters, Betty Hopkins of Big Bend, Eleanor Evans of Parkersburg, and Wilma Sampson of Avon Park, Fla.; two stepsons, Stanley Dobbins of Clevland, Ohio, and Arnold Dobbins, Jr., of Spencer; one brother, Henry Bailey of Nicut; one sister, Doss Hurley of Hickory, N.C.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Bailey, in 1981; and her second husband, Arnold Dobbins, Sr., in 1991. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Walter Dale Minney officiating. Burial was in Minnora cemetery, Minnora.

DODD, MARY L.

Mary L. Dodd, 71, of Pennsboro, died Tuesday, Mar. 1, 1994, at her residence after a sudden illaness. She was born in Leason Run, Doddridge County, a daughter of the late George W. and Icy Cunningham Richards. She was a member of the Church of God, Pennsboro. Surviving are her husband, Otis J. Dodd; two sons, George Hadsel Dodd and Gene Dodd, both of Massillon, Ohio; two daughters, Viola J. Blackburn of Oak Hill and Deloris McCloy of Parkersburg; four brothers, Rev. Porter Richards of Shelby, Ohio, Rev. Francis Richards and Ray Richards, both of Greenwood, and Joe Richards of Nutters Fort; two sisters, Ruth Mason of Massillon and Minnie Wood of Huntersville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson. Services were held at Pennsboro Church of God, with Rev. Robert Kirk officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

DUDAS, FREDA V. HARRIS

Freda V. Harris Dudas died Saturday, Dec. 3, 1994, at her home in Cleveland, Ohio, after an extended illness. She was the daughter of N. P. and Thursa Lewis Harris of Grantsville. Surviving are her husband, Stephen Dudas; children, Billy Prose and Patti Smallen; grandchildren, Mark and Natalie Smallen, all of Cleveland; sisters, Timmy Boesing of Indiana and Willodeane Brady of Walker; and a dear friend, Joan Martin of Cleveland. Services and burial were in Cleveland.

EAGLE, BASIL A.

Basil A. Eagle, 63, of Big Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1994, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Harley and Ina Richards Eagle. He retired from Cabot Oil and Gas Co.'s Calhoun District on Jan. 1, 1988, after 27 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Maxine Kirby Eagle of Big Bend; one son, Gary Eagle of Big Bend; one sister, Edith Eagle of Big Bend; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Eagle. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville.

EARL, ORVILLE LEN

Orville Len Earl, 51, of Washington, died Friday, Dec. 2, 1994, at National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of Len and Genevieve Ellyson Earl of Gilmer County. He had served in the U. S. Army Reserves, and had retired from DuPont with 31 years of service. He was a member of Parkersburg Masonic Lodge 169, AF&AM, and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Parkersburg. He was a Protestant. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife of 30 years, Mary Elizabeth Earl; two daughters, Cathy Lewis of Parkersburg and Lisa Earl of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Arnold Earl of Vienna and Phillip Earl of Grantsville; and one sister, Betty Fluharty of Gilmer County. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, with Rev. William R. Thomas and Rev. Lloyd Keith officiating.

ELDER, RUTH JONES

Ruth Jones Elder, 79, of Rt. 1, Belpre, died Friday, May 20, 1994, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Howard and Bertha Deem Jones. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. Surviving are four sons, Billie J. Elder of Jacksonville, Fla., Earnest C. Elder and Willard H. Elder, both of Belpre, and Randy R. Elder of Vincent; five daughters, Wanda Tucker of Belpre, Patricia Toothman of St. Albans, Barbara Waller of California, Linda Metz of Rockport, and Wilma West of Kansas City, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Willard Jones, Bennie Jones, Everett Jones, and Chester Jones, all of Grantsville; and three sisters, Virgie Southwell of Gladwin, Mich., Freda Twoy of Burton, Ohio, and G. Campbell of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stessel R. Elder, in 1992; four brothers, Clifford Jones, Harley Jones, Troy Jones, and Franklin Jones; one infant sister; and two grandsons. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Belpre.

ELLIOTT, AVIS

Avis Elliott, 79, of Parkersburg, formerly of Millstone, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Alva and Clara Haught Elliott. She was a Calhoun County High School graduate and was a former employee of Holly Nester as a secretary. She was a member of Rosemar Church of Christ. Surviving are two sisters, Melba Elliott and Eula Elliott, both of Parkersburg; two brothers, John W. Elliott of Millstone and Hulbert C. Elliott of San Bernadino, Calif.; and seven nieces and nephews. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Corley Miller officiating. Burial was in Barr cemetery, Millstone.
