Minnie P. Elliott, 98, of Grantsville, died Monday, Feb. 21, 1994, at Americare-Glenville after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Albert and Belle Gunn Poling. She was a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are one daughter, Rita VonDietry of Barberton, Ohio; one stepson, John F. Elliott of Hastings, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Maxine Mottice of Smithville, Ohio, Pauline Husk of Akron, and Nina Nicholas of Harrisville; two grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Elliott; one son; three brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Pearson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
FINK, LOIS MAE SAMPSON
Lois Mae Sampson Fink, 46, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 1994, after a one year battle with brain cancer. She was born at Orma, daughter of George E. and Mary (Lambert) Sampson and attended schools in Calhoun County. In May 1993, she graduated as an R.N. from Kent State University. She was employed at Hoover Co. in North Canton and had served as a union representative for I.B.E.W. Local No. 1985 for many years. She was a licensed real estate agent. She is survived by two sons, Micah Dean Arnold and Brian Arnold, both of Massillon; three grandchildren; mother, Mary Sampson of Massillon; three sisters, Carol Majoras of Elyria, Jean Sampson and Margaret McClain, both of Massillon; sister-in-law, Janetta Sampson of Orma; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, many of which reside in Calhoun County. Her husband, Jack Fink, was killed in an auto accident on May 14, 1994, while on route to Lois' doctor at Cleveland Clinic. She received minor injuries in that accident. She was also preceded in death by her father, George Sampson; one sister, Edna; two brothers, Paul Sampson and Denver Sampson; and former husband, Wesley D. Arnold. At her request, no funeral services were held. Her body was donated to Case Western Reserve Medical School, Cleveland, Ohio. Ina Fowler Fox, 84, of Charleston, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 1994, at Valley's Personal Care Center, after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Ira Bert and Clara Williams Fowler. She resided in Parkersburg for 20 years, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown. Surviving are one daughter, Janet Sturm of Charleston; two brothers, Leonard Fowler of Stumptown and Dolph Fowler of Vienna; one sister, Gladys Jarvis of Belpre; two granddaughters; and three great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Victor Stump; second husband, Bab Fox; one sister; and three brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville.

Dewey S. Frame, 65, of Nobe, died Monday, July 25, 1994, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, after a brief illness. He was born in Braxton County, a son of the late Okey J. and Laverna Stump Frame. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from Hall Dozer Service of Arnoldsburg. He was a member of Crooked Fork Baptist Church, Perkins. Surviving are one daughter, Darlene Barr of Elkins; one foster daughter, Charlene Richards of Nobe; two sisters, Biddie Mae Love of Buckhannon and Tressie Gay Ramsch of Baldwin; one brother, Gail Frame of Baldwin; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Cottrill Frame; his second wife, Velma Jean Nicholas Frame; one daughter, Linda Lou Frame; one son, Franklin G. Frame; and three brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Crooked Fork Church cemetery, Perkins.

Lora Freshour, 88, of Charleston, died Wednesday, Mar. 2, 1994, in CAMC Memorial Division, after a long illness. He was a former laborer and member of Laborers Union 1353, Charleston, with 35 years of service. He was a 47-year resident of Charleston and a Protestant. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are three sons, Willard and Wayne of Harmony, and William of Parkersburg; a daughter, Lou Lynn of Belle; two sisters, Evelyn Baldwin and Rachel Holley, of Sissonville; and several grandchildren. Services were held at Long-Fisher Funeral Home, Charleston, with Rev. J. E. "Bud" Legg officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Sissonville.

Donald C. Furr, 72, of Grantsville, died Friday, Jan. 21, 1994, at his residence of carbon monoxide poisoning because of a faulty heat exchanger. He was born in Glenville, a son of the late Gilbert and Erma Brannon Furr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had owned and operated Furr's Auto Sales in Grantsville since 1956. He attended Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are two stepsons, Thomas Ullum and Harold "Dick" Ullum, both of Grantsville; two brothers, Richard Furr of Columbus, Ohio, and Willard Furr of Glenville; three sisters, Rosalee Postalwait of Spencer, Patty Stacy of Clarksburg and Willa Jean Shamblin of Akron; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Furr, Jr., and Harland Furr. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville.

Bertha Louise Garwood, 53, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Mt. Zion, a daughter of the late Bernard and Delta Kirby Sampson. She was a homemaker. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Parkersburg Yacht Club. She was a Methodist. Surviving are her husband of 17 years, John Garwood; one daughter, Kathy Sims of Virginia; two brothers, Robert Sampson of Parkersburg and Roger Sampson of Sonoma; two sisters, Geraldine Little of Mt. Zion and Linda Husk of Williamsburg, Va. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Sampson. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Bill Eaton officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ada O. Gibson, 90, of Coshocton, Ohio, formerly of Joker, died Wednesday, May 18, 1994, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital, Coshocton, after a brief illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah Husk Kirby. She was a charter member of the Tecumseh Free Will Baptish Church, Tecumseh, Mich. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Williams of Cleveland, Estella Buckus of Rootstown, Ohio, and Doris Asbury of West Lafayette, Ohio; four sons, Eugene Gibson of Xenia, Ohio, Okey Gibson of Kent, Ohio, Leon Gibson of Tecumseh, and Edward Gibson of Newcomerstown, Ohio; three sisters, Elah Gibson of Mt. Zion, Lucille Basnett of Big Bend and Helena Bennett of Elyria, Ohio; two brothers, Holly Kirby of Mt. Zion and Fred Kirby of Grantsville; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Snowden Gibson; one daughter, Edra Rogers; three sons, Vernon Gibson, Arlin Gibson and Donald Gibson; and three brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Bryner Chapel Church cemetery near Mt. Zion.

John Robert Gillespie, 90, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 1994, at Calhoun General Hospital. He was a retired Baptist minister, having served pastorates in Ronceverte, Mullins, Clendenin, Parkersburg, Lumberport and Chicago, Ill. He was a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago. He was a member of Grantsville First Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Louise Umstead, with whom he resided in Grantsville; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lessie "Beth" Ranson Gillespie; and his second wife, Bertha Strother Gillespie. Services were held at Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston, with Rev. James Pearson and Rev. David Fuller officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Park, South Charleston. Memorials preferred to Grantsville First Baptist Church.

Arlen Godfrey, 76, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Apr. 16, 1994, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Faye and Effie Starkey Godfrey. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a farmer. Beulah F. "Dot" Godfrey, 79, of Grassrun, Gilmer County, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 1994, at her son's Washington home after an extended illness. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Dessie Marie Kuhl Queen. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Stumptown. Edward M. Grogg, 62, of Belpre, died Monday, Nov. 14, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after extended illness. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Leamon H. and Amy Susie Grogg. He was retired from Consolidated Freightways after 24 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1118. Surviving are his wife, Ethel Lorean Grogg; three sons, Louis Grogg of Lubeck, Marshall Wayne Grogg of London, Ohio, and Michael Grogg of Arnoldsburg; three daughters, Kimberly Hillman of Monroe, La.; Kathy Giffen of Belpre and Tina Davis of Williamstown; 11 grandchildren; seven sisters, Freda Ames of Vienna, Lena Ferguson of Elizabeth, Deloris Davis and Connie Cogar, both of Parkersburg, Cookie Hall of Palestine, Peggy Wade of Tanner and Dottie Frashure of Sand Fork; and 10 brothers, Donal, Jack, Steve and Kenny, all of Glenville, Rondel of Oberlin, Ohio, Leon of Parkersburg, Billie of Tanner, Fred of Belpre, Anthony of Elizabeth and Danny of Big Springs. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Grogg; one brother, Keven Grogg; and one grandson, Lawrence Edward Giffen. Services were held at Calvary Community Church, Belpre, with Rev. Ken Fullerton officiating. the body was donated to West Virginia University.
