GUMP, JOSIAH GRANT "JOE"

Josiah Grant "Joe" Gump, 94, of Ashland, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1994, in Samaritan Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Losie, son of the late Charles E. Gump and Margaret (Ellison) Gump, formerly of Walnut. He was a resident of Ashland since 1933. He retired from Faultless Rubber Co. in 1964. He was a member of Ashland Church of the Nazarene, and a charter member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his wife Eva (Lloyd) Gump, Feb. 6, 1993; three brothers; one sister; and one foster sister. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Guy (Jean) Hawkins of Ashland; a sister, Esther Lurch, Redding, Calif.; a foster sister, Shirlee Crislip, Rosedale; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nephews; and one niece. Services were held at Ashland Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Ivan Beatty officiating. Burial was in Ashland County Memorial Park.

HAAG, ICIE M.

Icie Marie McTheney Haag, 64, of Dille, died Monday, July 11, 1994, at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Pentecostal Church. Surviving are husband, Perry Haag; sons, Ronald, Robert, John and Paul, all of Rittman, Ohio; daughters, Wanda Belt and Rebecca Patterson, both of Birch River, Sandra Salisbury of Swandale, Brenda Patterson of Mt. Airy, N.C., Barbara Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dorothy Hudgins of Norfolk, Va.; brothers, David and Dorsel McTheney of Creston, Ohio; sisters, Letty Jane Kennedy of Russellville, Ala., Mary Taylor of Creston, and Genevie Nicholas of East Lake, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, with Rev. David Adams officiating. Burial was in Mill Fork cemetery, Rosedale.

HADDOX, HAZEL

Rev. Hazel Haddox, 93, of Big Bend, died Monday, Oct. 31, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born at Freed, a daughter of the late William H. and Lena Shimer Snider. She was founder and member of Spruce Hollow Community Church, where she served as minister for 41 years. Surviving are one son, Tona H. Haddox, Jr., of Big Bend; two daughters, Olive Buskirk of Parkersburg and Venice Goff of Clarksburg; one sister, Alta Duncan of Massillon, Ohio; two brothers, Bernard Snider of Newport and Colvin Snider of Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tona H. Haddox, Sr., in 1977; three sisters; and two brothers. Services were held at Spruce Hollow Community Church, Big Bend, with Rev. Randy Wilson and Rev. Harvey Greathouse officiating. Burial was in Saunders cemetery, Big Springs.

HALL, AMANDA GAE

Amanda Gae Hall, 79, of Arnoldsburg, died Friday, July 15, 1994, following a lengthy illness at Calhoun General Hospital. She was born in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Alec and Dora Laughlin Butler. She attended Fairview Church near Beech. Surviving are two sons, Dana Hall of Millstone and Ross Hall of Akron; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hall; one daughter, June Nichols; one grandson; two brothers; and two sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge cemetery.

HALL, CRISS A.

Criss Hall, 79, of Arnoldsburg, died Wednesday, May 18, 1994, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late J. W. and Ettie Clevenger Hall. He was the founder of Hall Dozer Co., which he operated until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of IOOF Lodge 246, Encampment 98, and Arnoldsburg Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Florence Laughlin Hall; one son, Stanley E. Hall of Millstone; three daughters, Carolyn Nester of Arnoldsburg, Linda Collins of Annamoriah and Kathy Westfall of Beaufort, S.C.; one half-brother, Charles Bailey of Oceana; one half- sister, Ruth Butler of Chloe; 11 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Hall; and one brother, Floris Hall. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Glendon McKee and Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge cemetery.

HAMILTON, WILSON PAGE

Wilson Page Hamilton, formerly of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1994, at Sycamore Hospital, Miamisburg, Ohio. He was the son of John M. and Minnie Cook Hamilton of Grantsville. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1926, and attended Glenville Normal School. After teaching school in Logan County, he entered West Virginia University and completed a five year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in 1934. In 1936 he graduated from University of Louisville with an MD degree. After internship, Dr. Hamilton practiced medicine in Grantsville for a year, during which he married Marjorie Avera of Germantown, Ohio. He left Grantsville and became public health medical officer of Marshall County and acted in the same capacity in Logan County for a short time. He entered Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and received an MDH degree. He returned to Logan County as public health officer until 1943, when he entered private practice in Chapmanville and remained there until his retirement in 1969. After five years in Florida, Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton returned to Germantown where Mrs. Hamilton died Feb. 18, 1984. He is survived by a daughter, Susan, who married Ed Bobbs and lives in Jackson, Ill.; a son, James Page Hamilton, who retired from the Air Force as a Colonel in 1989; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

HANEY, MARY F.

Mary F. Haney, 94, of Mineral Wells, died Monday, Feb. 7, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Rice Criss. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two sons, Charles Haney of Parkersburg, and Fred Haney of Belpre; two daughters, Marjorie Thorn of Parkersburg and Mary M. "Madeline" Crawford of Morgan Hill, Calif.; two grandsons; five granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; three brothers, William Criss and Raymond Criss, both of Vienna, and Woodrow Criss of Grantsville; and four sisters, Edith Knight of Big Bend, Ellaodean Barnes, Marie Dotson, and Emogene Anderson, all of Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil S. Haney, in 1984; two brothers; two sisters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 9:30 a.m., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. David Brooks officiating, and burial to be in Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, Oh.

HANEY, VIOLET

Violet Haney, 76, died Saturday, Mar. 12, 1994, at Wadsworth Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness. Born in Creston, a daughter of the late Asa and Florence, she is survived by sisters, Maxine Hartman of Wadsworth and Sylvia Headley of Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Hilliard Cox Mullaney Funeral Home, Wadsworth, Ohio, with Rev. William D. Stutler officiating. Burial was in Greentown cemetery.

HARDEN, EULAH

Eulah Harden, 86, of Parkersburg, died Monday, Mar. 28, 1994, at Parkview Health Care Center after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Madison and Mae Carpenter Leach. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville. Surviving are one granddaughter, Darlene Fallon of Pt. Pleasant; one grandson, Seth Avery Fallon of Pt. Pleasant; two sisters, Edna Hickman of Pineville and Ethel Slider of Beckley; and two brothers, Hatzel Leach of Millstone and Orville Leach of Mt. Zion. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Harden, in 1967; twin daughters, Bernadine Harden, in 1928, and Geraldine Barnes, in 1991; and two brothers, Burton Leach and Paul Leach. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

HARPER, VELVA

Velva Harper, 82, of Spencer, died Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Olive Bell Alvis McMullen. She was a homemaker and a lifelong Roane County resident. She attended Spencer Advent Christian Church. Surviving are seven daughters, Lucille McCune of Parkersburg, Barbara Jarvis of Grantsville, Patsy Darden of Starke, Fla., Katherine Harper and Georgia Wilson, both of Spencer, Betty Rohr of Buckhannon and Jackie O'Brien of Santa Fe, Tex.; seven sons, Robert Russell Harper, Jim Harper, Clemmie Harper, Mikel Harper and Richard Harper, all of Spencer, Danny Harper of Reedy and David Harper of Summersville, 31 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Harper, in 1989; one son Glen Harper; four brothers, Charles McMullen, Andrew McMullen, John McMullen and Russell McMullen; and one sister, Delphia McMullen James. Services were held at Sinnett-Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. John W. Bowen officiating. Burial was in Eventide cemetery, Spencer.

HARRIS, BETTY I.

Betty I. Harris, 58, of Mt. Zion, died Monday, Mar. 7, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an extended illenss. She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of Arthur J. Deuley of Grantsville and the late Thelma Westfall Deuley. She was a former employee of Calhoun County Committee on Aging and was a member of Lower Run Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Carl A. Harris; one daughter, Carlene M. Dunmore of Jolon, Calif.; four sons, Otis R. Harris of Stumptown, James A. Harris and Kenneth Harris, both of Grantsville, and Jason S. Harris of the home; one sister, Wanda Knotts of Orma; three brothers, Howard Scott Deuley of Cedarville, Gerald Deuley of Mt. Zion, and Arthur J. Deuley, Jr., of Grantsville; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

HARRIS, FRANKIE W.

Frankie W. Harris, 63, of Grantsville, died Friday, June 17, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. She was born in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Sisco and Ethel Stanley Eddy. She was a homemaker and attended Victory Baptist Church in Grantsville. Surviving are one foster son, Leonard Powell of Grantsville; two sisters, Cora Kincaid of Smithville and Violet Stanley of Massillon, Ohio; and one brother, William S. Eddy of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdell Harris; three brothers; and two sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.

HARRISON, HAZEL MAE

Hazel Mae Harrison, 76, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Jan. 7, 1994, at her residence of an apparent heart attack. She was born in Wood County, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Francis Lemon Harper. She retired from PMC Corp. in 1974 after 36 years of service. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where she was active in the Mission Circle. Surviving are one son, Jack Harrison of Parkersburg; two daughters, Patsy S. Park and Gloris M. Bungard, both of Walker; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Harrison; and two brothers, Howard E. Harper and Harry Harper. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Charles Barr and Rev. John McGary officiating. Burial was in Skidmore cemetery, Dallison.

HARTSHORN, BOYD

Boyd Hartshorn, 70, of Russett, died Friday, Dec. 16, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Everett and Josie Sturm Hartshorn. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific on the USS Honolulu. He retired from Pennzoil Co. and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife Dorma A. Miller Hartshorn; four sons, Lyle Hartshorn and Kevin Hartshorn, both of Grantsville, Colin Hartshorn of Shock and Gary Hartshorn of Munday; a daughter, Carol Collins of Petroleum; three brothers, Ernest Hartshorn and Glen Hartshorn, both of Grantsville, and Earl Hartshorn of Bolt; a sister, Elah Gainer of Grantsville; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dayton Hartshorn, and a sister, Ellanee Hartshorn. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Evangelist Gene Miller officiating. Burial was in Collins Community cemetery, Stumptown.
