Willis Jarvis, 67, of Valley Fork, died Friday, June 24, 1994, at Charleston Area Medical Center's General Division after a brief illness. He was born in Little White Oak, a son of the late Alpheus and Martha Flinn Jarvis. He was a farmer and a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Lola Hicks Jarvis; six daughters, Martha Jarvis, Mary Jarvis, Norma Jarvis, Linda Jarvis and Wilma King, all of Valley Fork, and Janet Beasley of Clay; four sons, Robert Jarvis, Bill Jarvis, Victor Jarvis and Willie Jarvis, all of Valley Fork; one brother, Claude Jarvis of Spencer; and seven grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Hicks cemetery, Chloe.
WILSON, MELVIN VERE
Melvin Vere Wilson, 74, of Spencer, died Friday, Oct. 21, 1994, at Clarksburg VA Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Ralph and Stella Price Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a tail-gunner, and was a brick layer. Surviving are three sons, Melvin "Bradley" Wilson and Ralph Berry "Huck" Wilson, both of Spencer, and Gary "Henry" Wilson of Arnoldsburg; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda E. Wright Wilson; and three sons, Michael Lynn Wilson, Gregory Wayne Wilson, and Cole Wilson. Services were held at Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Darrell Alvis officiating. Burial was in Spencer Memorial cemetery.

Soney Wilson, 81, of Big Springs, died Sunday, Mar. 20, 1994, at Americare-Glenville after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Homer and Elvira Wilson. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Boso & Ritchie Construction Co. Surviving are three sons, Blaine Wilson, Stanley Wilson, and Homer Wilson, all of Big Springs; one daughter, Darla Taylor of Big Springs; one sister, Nilahma Frederick of Big Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Louise Wilson, in 1993. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Kenneth Heiney officiating, and burial to be in Nobe cemetery.

Steve Wilson, 50, of Dalton, Ohio, formerly of Calhoun County, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 1994, at his residence after a four-month illness. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Thelma DeWeese. He was employed by J. M. Smucker Co., Orville, Ohio, for the past 26 years. Surviving are his wife, Stella Jane Boggs Wilson of Dalton; one son, Kenneth Wilson of the home; two daughters, Christina Wilson of the home and Kimberly Thompson of Beach City, Ohio; two grandchildren; and his maternal grandmother, Tava Wilson of Massillon, Ohio. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Bailey cemetery, near Orma.

Gay Maxine Johnson, 71, of Byesville, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 16, 1994, at Byesville. She was born in Grantsville, daughter of the late Samuel and Eva Burrows Shrieves. She was a Baptist by faith and a homemaker. Surviving are three sons, Edward Johnson of Wadsworth, Ohio; James Johnson of Quaker City, Ohio, and Maynard Johnson of Jerusalem, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs, Denver (Glada) Quick of Copley, Ohio, Jannet Yoho of Byesville, Mrs. Bill (Lela) Stacy of Barnesville, Ohio, and Olive Bragg of Senecaville, Ohio; a brother, Albert Shrieves of Akron; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Johnson, in January 1973; two daughters; four sisters; and a brother. Services were held at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Lee officiating. Bennie D. Jones, 73, Grantsville, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 1994, at Calhoun General Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Howard and Bertha Deem Jones. He retired as a welder for Cabot Corp. and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Grantsville, Eureka Lodge 40, AF&AM, Grantsville, and was a well-known bluegrass musician. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Siers Jones; two sons, Bobby Jones of Fairmont and Johnny D. Jones of Grantsville; a daughter, Cathy Jones of Clarksburg; three brothers, Willard Jones of Five Forks, Everett Jones and Chester Jones, both of Grantsville; three sisters, Freeda Twoey of Burton, Ohio, and Virgie Southall and Mildred Campbell, both of Grantsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Saunders cemetery.

David Jones, 84, died Sunday, July 17, 1994, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains, Ohio. Born in Calhoun County, he was the son of the late Eleighue and Bell Brookover Jones. He worked for 25 years at John Davidson Contracting and 15 years at Abex Corp. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Genevieve "Mary" Stover Jones; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Juanita) Gilkey and Mrs. Pearl (Evelyn) Brooks of The Plains; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sharon of Athens; a son, Robert of Nelsonville; a sister, Rosie Jones of Calhoun County; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey; sisters, Fronie and Minnie; and brothers, Frank, Robert, Earl, Granville, Homer, Harley, and Jake. Funeral services were held at Souers Funeral Home, with Bishop John Pollard officiating. Burial was in Athens Memory Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Jones; one son, Roger Jones; four sisters, Martha Eckhart, Winnona Bell, Sharon Wright and Ethel Wyers; three brothers, Harl Bell, Bill Bell and Jack Bell; and one granddaughter, Kendra Clark. Arnold R. Keen, 75, of Landenberg, Pa., died Saturday, July 9, 1994, at Christiana Hospital, Standon, Del. He was born in Newton, a son of the late Robert L. and Eva Helmic Keen. He was a research scientist and registered professional engineer who had worked for DuPont Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1977. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Harless Keen; one brother, Daniel Keen of Chloe; one sister, Hazel Boggs of Left Hand; and several nieces and nephews. Donald Kelley, 59, of Elizabeth, died Sunday, Mar. 13, 1994, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after an extended illenss. He was born in Munday, a son of Clara Jones Kelley of Munday and the late James Kelley. He was a construction engineer. William Blaire Kelley, 72, of Vienna, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994, at his residence. He was born in White Pine, a son of the late Lloyd F. and Vera Kite Kelley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having received the Purple Heart. After World War II, he was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He eventually returned to Parkersburg, where he was employed by American Cyanamid Co. for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1985. Surviving are one son, Vernon Kelley of Mineral Wells; one daughter, Vera M. Hopkins of Parkersburg; three sisters, Lucille Montgomery of Parkersburg, and Pauline Smith and Anna Mae McGirk, both of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Starcher Kelley; one brother; and three sisters. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Gerald Morgan officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery North.
