Frank Kuffner
Frank Kuffner, 83, of Bluefield, VA, died Sept. 23, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.
Born June 5, 1923 in Maybeury, WV, he was the son of the late Anton and Yelka Kuffner.
He was a 1941 graduate of Northfork High School. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII in the Pacific Island Campaign. He was a Pharmacist Mate 2nd/class/corpsman attached to the 1st Marine Amphibious Corps.
He was a member of the Bluefield Moose and the Rotary Club of Keystone. He had a lifetime love of sports and enjoyed bowling and golf with his friends. He played baseball with KeyEck in the Coalfield League. He was an avid fan of WVU, the Northfork Blue Demons, and was his grandson Matt’s number 1 fan in all sports from grade school through college.
He was of the Catholic faith. He began his work career in the Keystone Mines and after moving to Chicago for a few years, he returned to the area and worked for Kentucky Central Life Insurance Co. until he retired. He filled his retirement years by working first as a volunteer on the grounds crew for the Bluefield Orioles, eventually becoming the Baby Bird Head Grounds Keeper. He was a big supporter of the Baby Birds and was a leader of the vocal group of fans known as the “Rail Birds.”
He was a devoted husband and active in the lives of his daughter and grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Kuffner, Steve Kuffner and Tony Kuffner; and four sisters, Helen Seaman, Mary Vaglienti, Josephine Kwiatkowsky and Tracy Roman.
Survivors: wife of 53 years, Arlene Anderson Kuffner; daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Dishner and husband, George, and grandson, Matthew, of Mechanicsburg, PA; sister, Annie Vitosky of Chicago, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Father William Matheny and Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.
Burial followed in the Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1808 Jefferson St., Bluefield, WV, American Heart Association, P.O. Box 12110, Charleston, WV, or to Total Home Care Hospice, P.O. Box 661, Grundy, VA.

Elizabeth (Gerry) Owens
Elizabeth Geraldine (Gerry) Bohon Owens, 74, of Loganville, GA, went to be with the Lord Oct. 7, 2006 at 12:55 p.m. at the Embracing Hospice Hospital in Snellville, GA, following a long illness.
Born in Princeton, WV, she was a daughter of the late William O. and Ruth Bohon.
She lived most of her life in Buchanan County before living in Abingdon, after her retirement. Since Nov. of 2005, she had made her home with her son Tim and his family in Loganville. She had served her community as cafeteria manager for the Buchanan County Public Schools at Garden High School and Elementary until her retirement. She was a member of the Keen Mountain Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, William O Bohon, Sr.; mother, Ruth Petry Bohon; brother, Charles “Chuck” Bohon; and stepmother, Agnes Hagy Bohon.
Survivors: brother, William “Bill” O Bohon, Jr. and wife, Eva, of Hampton; sons, George Andrew Owens, Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Abingdon, Tim Owens and wife, Pam, of Loganville; daughter, Ruth Ellen Owens Elzey and husband, Tom, of Abingdon; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and loving friends.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain with Rev. Ancil Childress and Rev. Jerry and Olivia Wilson officiating.
Burial followed in the Rest Haven Memorial Park cemetery at Princeton, WV.
A service was held at the funeral home Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be made to the American Cancer Society: 1808 Jefferson Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.

Ruby Mae Lawson
Ruby Mae Damron Lawson, 77, of Tazewell, VA, formerly of Squire, WV, died Oct. 23, 2005 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.
Born July 7, 1928 at McDowell, KY, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Hattie Blankenship Damron. She attended the Dial Rock Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Lawson; one son, Billie J. Lawson; one grandson, James “Jimbo” Conley; one son-in-law, Lawrence Scott; and three brothers, Edward Damron, Irvin Damron, and Ruford Damron.
She is lovingly remembered and loved by: daughters, Anna Sue Bowman of Squire, Dorothy “Dot” Syva and Joyce Hall, both of Tazewell, Brenda Lawson and Anita Scott, both of Roanoke; sons, James “Jimmy” Lawson and wife, Faye, of Danville, B. Keith “Kenny” Lawson of Tazewell; sisters, Ellen Lawson of McDowell, KY, Anna Ray Lawson of Martinsville; 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; special nieces, Jewell Trail, Barbara White, Patty Wilson, Yvonne “Von” Kelly, Lisa Gann, Vickie Lawson and Margie Hall; nephew, Clinton “Skip” Lawson; and many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. John Canning and Charlie “Junior” Marrs officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

James Ralph Love
James Ralph Love, 67, of Richlands, VA, died Oct. 27, 2005 at a Bland nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Bradshaw, WV, he was the son of the late Mylum and Fannie Maude Head Love, both Scott County natives.
He had made his home in the New York City area most of his life and was a former computer billing technician for Hecht’s Department Stores. He was a member of the Richlands High School Class of 1956 and was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Love, and one brother, Donald Love.
Survivors: sister, Carolyn Stoots and husband, Frank, of Cedar Bluff; nieces, Chrissy Ball and Lora Carty; nephews, Scott Ball, John Ball and Riley Stoots; two great nieces; and seven great nephews.
The family held a private burial service.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands was in charge of arrangements.

Chester D. McClanahan
Chester Dewey McClanahan, 58, of Richlands, VA, died Oct. 29, 2005 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Stuart McClanahan and Pauline Mitchell Woosley.
He had made his home in the Richlands area most of his life and was a retired foreman for Jewell Ridge #12 of the Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation. He was a District Royal Rangers Commander and a member of the Raven Assembly of God Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen Owens McClanahan.
Survivors: sons, William McClanahan and wife, Shirley, and Michael McClanahan and wife, Serena, all of Clarks Valley; father, Hassel Woosley, Sr. of Richmond; sisters, Martha Elder and Paula Walls, both of Richmond; brothers, Okey McClanahan, Sr. of Lebanon, Hassel Woosley, Jr. of Richmond; and grandchildren, William Adam McClanahan, Jason Aaron McClanahan, and Zachary Jake McClanahan.
The funeral was conducted Nov. 1 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating.
Interment followed at the Owens Family cemetery on Daw Road near Richlands.

Lelia I. Armstrong
Oct. 21, 2005 Lelia I. Armstrong, beloved mother, went to be with the Lord.
Born in Elkins, WV, she was a daughter of the late Kent and Claudia Simmons.
She was a member of Cliffield Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack O. Armstrong; two sons, David K. Armstrong and Thomas O. Armstrong; and several brothers and sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family in her generation.
Survivors: daughters, Sharon G. Matney and husband, Roger, of Sterling, Delores I. Shiflett and husband, Thomas, of Cedar Bluff; sons, Ronald C. Armstrong and wife, Debra J., of Mill Creek, WV, Jeff Armstrong and wife, Cherrie, of Northport, AL. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with Mr. Keith Matney officiating.
Singleton Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Pamela Jean Clark
Pamela Jean Clark, 45, of Rocky Gap, VA, died Oct. 2, 2005 at her residence after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 7, 1959 in Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of Jack Lambert of Aurora, OH, and the late Verna Lambert.
She was a nurse at the Wythe County Community Hospital.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one sister, Debbie Whittaker.
Additional survivors: husband, Jerry Clark; daughters, Amanda Clark of Bluefield, WV, Sabrina Clark of the home; grandson, Sawyer Lambert of Rocky Gap; granddaughter, Montana Stafford of the home; and sister-in-law, Retha Garland of Bastian.
The funeral was conducted Oct 5 at 11 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA, with Pastor Paul Looney officiating.

Lula Blankenship Mullins
Lula Blankenship Mullins, 85, of Jolo, West Virginia, died October 23, 2005 at her home after an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Elder Taylor and Nancy Stacy Blankenship. She was a member of the Bee Branch Old Regular Baptist Church for the past 39 years and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harvey J. Mullins; sons Terry Mullins and Jerry Mullins; grandson Phillip Todd Mullins; sons-in-law Barnest Mounts, Thomas Goldsborough and James Plymal; brothers Richard Blankenship, Virgus Blankenship, Edgar Blankenship, Homer Blankenship and Hobart Blankenship.
Survivors: daughters, Thelma Mounts of Gray, TN; Ruth Mullins and husband Herman of Jolo; Velda Blankenship and husband Swanson of Jolo; Merley Plymal of Bostwick, FL; and Shirley Goldsborough of Deale, FL; a son, Lowell Mullins and wife Joann of Palatka, FL; sisters, Susie Payne of Tazewell and Georgia Mounts of Grundy; brothers, William T. Blankenship and wife Hilda of Hurley, Kennith Blankenship and wife Ruby of Wolford, and Robert Blankenship of Wolford; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Bee Branch Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roscoe Crouse, Curtis Crouse and James Stacy officiating.
Burial followed at the Ambrose Mullins cemetery near Paynesville, WV.

Cammie K. “Sonny” Harman, Jr.
Cammie K. “Sonny” Harman, Jr., 64, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Prince George County, died Oct. 9, 2005 at his home.
Born Nov. 4, 1940 in Pageton, WV, he was a son of the late Cammie K. Harman, Sr. and Rosa Graham Harman.
He retired from the Brenco Corporation in Petersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Edward Harman.
Survivors: wife, Patricia Davidson Harman; daughter, Terri Wolfe and fiancé, Dan Morrissey, both of Charlotte, NC; son, Jeffrey David Harman and wife, Terry, of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughters, Heather Wolfe and Brenna Wolfe, both of Chesterfield; grandsons, Pryce Harman, Gunar Harman, and Jacob Harman, all of Jacksonville; and sisters, Janice Allgood and Shelby Hagy and husband, Gordon, all of Saltville.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating.
Burial followed at Shady Grove cemetery in Skygusty, WV.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Okalahoma, OK 73123-1718 or the Community Hospice Northeast FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257.

William Samuel “Bill” Wampler
William Samuel “Bill” Wampler, 67, of Tazewell, VA, died Oct. 11, 2005 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Born Aug. 3, 1938 in Atwell, WV, he was a son of the late William C. and Martha Ann Dameron Wampler.
He was a member of the Weslyan Methodist Church at English, WV. He was the President of Clinch River Corporation in the Pisgah area of Tazewell.
Survivors: wife, Catheryn Moore Wampler; daughters, Yvette Wampler of Northern Virginia, Kecia Wampler Jones and husband, Phillip Randall Jones, of Abingdon; son, Harold Lewis Crandall and wife, Mary, of Ossian, IN; brother, James Allen Wampler of Arlington; and grandchildren, Dylan Crandall, Logan Crandall, and Nikki Davis.
The funeral was private.
Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home of Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.
