James Clyde Ward, 63, of Iaeger, WV, formerly of Buchanan County, died Aug. 13, 2004 at his home following a short illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Lloyd Milton and Ida Horn Ward.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan and McDowell Counties. He was of the Pentecostal Faith and a disabled coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mullins Ward.
Survivors: daughters, Regina Ward and husband, Gerald, of Grundy, Tonya Ward of Iaeger, WV; sons, James Clyde Ward Jr. of Statesville, NC, Jeffery Ward of North Wilkesboro, NC; sisters, Pauline Smith and Glenn, of Grundy, Nancy Beasley and husband, Charles, of Raven; brothers, Milton Gene Ward and wife, Joan, of Wardell, Lloyd Ward Jr. and Keith Ward, both of Grundy; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Parris and Rev. Jack Ward officiating.
Burial followed in the Brown cemetery on Hale Creek near Pilgrim Knob.
Services were conducted Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
William H. Asbury
William Hubert Asbury, 73, of Horsepen, died July 27, 2004 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Born at Bishop, WV, he was a son of Edith Lakie Altizer Asbury of Columbus, OH, and the late William Powell Roy Asbury.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Marrs Asbury; two sons, Dennis Asbury and Kenneth Asbury; one brother, Charles Ray Asbury; and one sister, Irene Joyce Rotenberry.
Additional survivors: sons, Harvey Edward Asbury of Gastonia, NC, Douglas Allen Asbury and William Thomas Asbury, both of Horsepen; brothers, James Asbury and Robert Earl Asbury; sisters, Trula Newsome, Shirley Bailey, Aileen Hicks, Wilma Tolley, Rose Day, and Lilly Baker; and six grandchildren.

Mary Coleman, 66, of Jewell Ridge, died July 27, 2004 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Mingo County, WV, she was a daughter of Cora Shepherd Mayhorn of Jewell Ridge and the late Fred Mayhorn.
She made her home in the Jewell Ridge area the past 12 years and was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.

John R. Cregger, 55, of Bluefield, VA, Abbs Valley, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on July 27, 2004 following a long illness.
Born in Welch, WV, he was a son of the late Sidney Berlin and Helen Ann Kegley Cregger.
He was an installer with GTE, retiring with 22 years of service. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bluefield, VA, and was enlisted in the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Cregger, and one sister, Janet Bourne.

Pearl I. Mangus
Pearl Irene Mangus, 82, of Lexington, SC, formerly of Hartwell, WV, died July 29, 2004 at a Lexington nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Ashe County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Wells Russell and Rebecca Clyde Adams Miller, both North Carolina natives.
Before moving to Lexington, she made her home in the Hartwell area most of her life and was a member of the Canebrake Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Wirt Mangus; four brothers, Howard, Gene, Bill and Jack Miller; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Miller and Greta Miller.

Syble Evelee Riggs Turyn, 79, of Paintlick, VA, formerly of Holden, WV, departed this life to be with the Lord July 29, 2004 at a Richlands hospital.
Born in Wayne County, WV, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Zara Pack Riggs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Baby Boy Riggs, Sylvester and Wilburn Riggs, and three sisters, Blanche Riggs, Ethel Osak, and Ina Kent.
Survivors: husband of 63 years, Frank "Tubby" Turyn, Sr.; son, Frank Turyn, Jr. and wife, Anna, of Durand, MI; daughter, Jacqueline Smith and husband, Ed, of Paintlick; brother, John Riggs and wife, Barbara, of Lewisburg, WV; maternal aunt, Ina Darling of Kanova, WV; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Madeline B. Barton
Madeline B. Barton, 81, of Tazewell, widow of the Rev. Harlow H. Barton, died July 24, 2004 at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell.
Born at Greenbrier County, WV, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Laura Cutlipp O'Quinn.
She was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church of God at Pounding Mill and had previously served as church secretary.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one infant son, Harlow Barton, and one daughter, Irene Barton Mitchell.

Acie T. Chaffins
Acie T. Chaffins, 80, of Big Hackneys Creek, Mouth Card, KY, died July 26, 2004 at the Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Mingo County, WV, he was the son of the late Wayne and Lydia Reynolds Chaffins.
He was a member of the State Line Free Pentecostal Church of God and a retired coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Jean Smith Chaffins on Aug. 31, 1986; one granddaughter, Ashley Dawn Stiltner; and three brothers, John, Matthew and Ballard Chaffins.

Rev. Ira C. Collins
Rev. Ira C. Collins of War, WV, formerly of Danville, died July 24, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born at Princeton, WV, he was a son of the late Creed Collins and Frances Linkous Collins.
He had made his home in War for the past eight years, before that 15 years in the Danville area. He was a retired Pastor for over 50 years with the Church of God in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. He was a member of the War Church of God at War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Walters Collins; one son, Paul Collins; one sister; and 13 brothers.
Survivors: wife, Edith Barton Collins; sons, Rev. Michael Collins and wife, Diana, of Dublin, Ray Collins and wife, Carol, of St. Augustine, FL; daughter-in-law, Deborah Collins of Danville; sisters, Blanche Dove of Carrollton, Sadie Nester of Roanoke; brother, Tom Collins of Louisiana; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Harold E. Crickmer
Harold Evans Crickmer, 80, of Tazewell, VA, died July 22, 2004 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN.
Born June 20, 1924 in Mcalpin, WV, he was a son of the late Walter Baldwin Crickmer and Ethel Gilchrist Crickmer.
He was a graduate of Mark Twain High School in Stokesberry, WV. He attended Concord College and graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the Fourth Marine Division. He had worked as a Mining Engineer and had retired as a Vice-President from Pittston Coal Group. He was a member of the Tazewell Christian Church, a member of the Marine Corps League, the Tazewell Lions Club, the Fincastle Country Club, and the Alumni Association of West Virginia University.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Mason Crickmer, Douglas Fredrick Crickmer, and Walter Baldwin Crickmer, Jr.; and one sister, Marion Crickmer Grimm.
Survivors: wife of 58 years, Jeanette Hall Crickmer, daughter, Susan Crickmer Jackson and husband, Tom, of Salisbury, MD; sister, Marjorie Crickmer Myers of Apopka, FL; grandson, Thomas Preston Jackson, II; and numerous nieces and nephews.
