Eugene B. Smith, 76, of Lexington, husband of Virginia "Ginny" L. Smith, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Saint Joseph's Hospital.
A native of Belfry, Ky., he was a son of the late marvin and Mary Keesee Smith.
He was a retired salesman for Ford Motor Company.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Terry E. Smith of Michigan; a daughter, Melissa Smith of Tennessee; two step-children, Mark Geoghegan and his wife, Susan, and Keith Geoghegan and his wife, Jill; seven grandchildren, Michelle McCombie, Tracy Zeestratton, Roxanne Sprow, Wendy Johnson, Ashley Smith, Brian Geoghegan and Mallory Geoghegan; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Debbie Ireson and her husband, Bill of Belfry and Lois Fain and her husband, Bill, of Florida; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Mark Smith.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Christ Centered Church, 2275 Eastland Parkway, Lexington, with Pastor Tommy Howard officiating.
Nella Preece Evans, 95, of South Williamson, Ky., formerly of Inez, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in the Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in South Williamson.
Born Sept. 19, 1906, in Inez, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Lou Creacy Preece.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Middlefork United Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Okey Evans; two brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, William Bob (Shirley) Evans of Marriottsville, Md. and James C. (Karen) Evans of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Von Ada Bannister of South Williamson; four sisters, Hattie Muncy of Columbus, Ohio, Pearl Mills of Columbus, Ohio, Celia Moore of Grove City, Ohio, Hallie Lambert of Inez, Ky. and Lucy Kirk of Warfield, Ky.; one brother, Edward (Virginia) Preece of Livonia, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Middlefork United Baptist Church with Kennie Preece officiating.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez.
Dana Daniels
Dana Laura Daniels, 73, of Blackberry City, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
Born March 31, 1928, in Freeburn, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Ferrell Coleman and Helen Frances Marcum.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Randy Daniels, and three grandsons, Douglas Allen, Steven Edwards and Blaine Kamalli.
She was a homemaker, a wonderful wife and mother, and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include her husband, Mason Daniels of the home; one son, David Daniels of Honolulu, Hawaii; four daughters, Helen Edwards of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kathy Wolford, Rhonda Simpkins and Teresa Allen, all of Huntington; two sisters, Della Ray New of Maynardsville, Tenn. and Sandra Keaton of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Chambers Funeral Home in Matewan, with ministers Johnny Gooslin and Ronnie Wolford officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.
Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, with special services at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Smoot
Elizabeth Smoot, 82, of Kistler, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.
Born March 7, 1919, in Martin County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Fred and Nancy Young Ball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Smoot; one daughter, Louise Smoot; four brothers, Bernard Ball, Riley Ball, Charlie Ball and Fred Ball; and one sister, Jannie Ball Belcher.
She was a member of the baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Victoria Browning of Hanover; one special niece, with whom she made her home, Carolyn Meade of Kistler; one sister, Vernie Ball Trent of Lost Creek (Charleston); and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel of Gilbert, with the Rev. Harold Ellis officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Titus Perry, Travis Cyprus, Marcus McCoy, Forest White , Butch Preston and Teddy Browning.
Friends may call the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
Patricia Williams
Patricia R. Williams, 67, of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Dec. 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Eddison and Maria Farley Brehm.
She was a homemaker, president and owner of Flair Furniture of Gallipolis Ferry, owner of the Williams Rental Agency, part owner and secretary of the Williams Coal Company and a member of the Women of Moose #731 of Pt. Pleasant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Williams; a daughter, Sandra Faye Williams, and a sister, Sandy Brehm.
She is survived by a son, Kenny (Kelly) Williams of Gallipolis Ferry; two daughters, Tricia (Rick) Knight of Pine Hurst, N.C., and Debra (Steve) Day of Hurricane; four brothers, Weldon Brehm of Mullins, Eddie and Billy Brehm, both of Florida, and Martin Brehm of California; two sisters, Norma Ratliff of California and Fay Johnson of Indiana; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A private family memorial service is being held Sunday at the Deal Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be given to the American Heart Association.

James Taylor
James R. Taylor, 79, of South Williamson, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 31, 1922, he was the son of the late George W. and Lillian Raine Taylor.
He was a long-standing business and real estate owner and had operated the George W. Taylor Co. prior to his retirement several years ago. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Williamson, a World War II veteran, having served with the 468th Artillery Division, and was a Chief Warrant officer with the National Guard. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Williamson Elks Lodge and a Shriner. He was a pilot and a member of the 523 Flying Club. He was a graduate of Williamson High School and Kenosha School of Business and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Eric R. Taylor, a daughter, Cheryl Taylor Hall, and three brothers, Eugene, Richard and William (Bill) Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean R. Taylor; a daughter, Adrienne Taylor Thomas of South Williamson, Ky., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Weaver Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Evans officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the chapel.
Pallbearers will be Danny Stacey, Tony Hambrick, Joey McCoy, Charlie Johnson, Bill Young, Mike Anderson and George Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be Abe Hymore and Hal Epling.

Berry D. "Little Berry" Rogers, 64, of Taylor, Mich, formerly of Huddy, Ky., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001.
Born Sept. 6, 1937, in McAndrews, Ky., he was the son of the late Berry Devert and Birdie Rose Rogers.
He was a retired truck driver with Canton Waste Recycling with 30 years service and a member of the Eagles Aerie #2250.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Osborn Rogers; a son, Kenneth; a sister and seven brothers.
He is survived by two sons, Berry and Eugene Rogers of Taylor, Mich.; a daughter, Deborah Lynn Rogers of Bradenton, Fla.; two brothers, Junior Ray and Harold Rogers, both of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four sisters, Gladys Vargo of Indiana, Pauline Farley of Michigan, Nora Franks of Arizona and Virginia Williamson of Williamson, and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 30, 2001, at the Stark Funeral Home, Moore Memorial Chapel with burial following at the Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton Township, Mich.
