Delmer Church, 79, of Ransom, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at his residence.
Born April 6, 1922, in Pike County, Ky., he was the son of late James Delmer and Rebecca Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tiny, six brothers, and two granddaughters.
He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the 1st Samaria Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maudie Whitt Church of Ransom; seven sons, James (Linda) Church of Morehead, Ky., Donnie (Annie), Carl (Gail) Church, Michael and Mickey Church, all of Ransom, Delmer Jr. (Dianna) Church of Morehead, Ky., and Benny (Sue) Church of Matewan; four daughters, Arta (Bruce) Tilley, Sue (Tommy) Tilley and Ruthie Smith, all of Ransom, and Nita (Dean) Norman of McCarr; three brothers, Berl Church of South Carolina and Chester and Vanice Church, both of Ransom; three sisters, Pearlie Church of Florida, Mary Cook of Stone, Ky., and Ulee Church of Ohio; 32 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the 1st Samaria Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Elmer Smith and Kenneth Hall officiating.

Visitation will be held on Monday until the time of the service.

Eddie A. Starr
Eddie A. Starr, 57, of Williamson, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born June 3, 1944, in Williamson, he was a son of the late Arnold Jackson Starr and Velma Damron Starr.
He was a salesman for Stowers Fire and Safety and a member of the Williamson Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Stowers Starr; two sons, Jason Starr of Winder, Ga., and Brian Starr of Williamson; two daughters, Donna Michelle Starr of Denver, Colo., and Kay Thaxton of Williamson; five brothers, Paul Starr, Bobby Starr, Dwayne Starr and Dana Starr, all of Williamson, and Carlton Starr of Charleston; two sisters, Loretta Steele of Williamson and Brenda Bean of Ft. Gay, and three grandchildren, David, Amber and Matthew Thaxton, all of Williamson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Weaver Mortuary Chapel in Williamson, with Pastor Daniel Morikone officiating.
Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.
Brothers will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lizzie Messer
Lizzie "Sue" Messer, 74, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Ida Bowens, Polly Rainbolt, Don Estepp, Wilbur Estepp and Emily Estepp.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Willie Messer; children, Escum "Bud" (Eileen) Messer, Gail (Oscar) Perry, Peggy Douglas, Glen (Debbie) Messer, Paul David (Lucy) Messer; grandchildren, Tabitha (Mark) Fry, Mary Jane Messer, Vickie (Bret) Scythes, Adam Perry, Kimmie (Greg) Highfield, Kevin Douglas, Brandy (John) Rolinette, Tracey (Chris) Burlingame, Courtney Messer, Alex Messer, Gennifer Messer and McKenzie Messer; great-grandchildren, Andy, Cory, Austin, Montgomery, Terry, Austin, Kacey and Christopher; sisters, Georgie Hodge, Rosie (Bill) Reeder and Noretta (Jerry) Lowe, and brother, John (Helen) Estepp.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Evans Funeral Home at 4171 E. Livingston Ave. in Columbus, with the Rev. Russell Messer and Pastor John Adams officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at the funeral home.
Melvin Messer, Jr.
Melvin Messer, Jr., 51, of Crum, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Three Rivers Medical Center.
Born Sept. 22, 1950, in Mingo County, he was a son of Melvin and Lexie Messer.
He was a retired construction worker for Mountain Enterprise.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Lynn, Mary Lou and Virginia Ann Messer, all of Marion, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia Wimer of Columbus, Ohio, and Janice Black; two brothers, Charles Ray Clevin and Carl Messer, and two grandsons, Cody Ray and Davidson Keith Messer.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Old Jennies Creek United Baptist Church with Freddie Messer, Jr. officiating.
Visitation began at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the church.

Eugene Daniels
Eugene Keith Daniels, 25, of Delbarton, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Varney.
Born Sept. 18, 1976, at Williamson, he was a son of Burgess Eugene Daniels and Darleen Prater.
He was employed as a construction worker.
Survivors include his fiancee, Carla Bradford; one son, Bryan Keith Daniels of Varney; two brothers, Travis Daniels and Ronnie Lee Prater, and three sisters, Leanne Prater of Delbarton, Legenia Daniels of Varney and Cecilia Prater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Woodman Community Church with the Reverends Otis Blankenship, Ron Pruitt and DeWitt Furrow officiating.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at the church. A special service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Woodrow Buster May, 85, of Thacker, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.
Born Sept. 23, 1916, he was a son of the late James Harvey and Mary Elizabeth May.
He was a retired coal miner, a member of the Lynn Freewill Baptist Church and a member of the local 8840.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Harris May; two sons, Clarence and Michael Alexander May; four sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include five sons, Lyle Terry (Judy) May of Huntington, Roger Lee (Ruby) May, Carl David (Shirley) May, Timothy Dean (Janie) May and John Harvey (Ruth) May, all of Thacker; five daughters, Mary Elizabeth Stapleton of Huntington, Helen Priscilla Murphy of Thacker, Jancis Sue Wallen of Lick Creek, Sherri (Dewey) Spencer of Phelps, Ky., and Ella Louise May of Thacker; one brother, Grady May of Sparks, Nev.; one sister, Rhonda Hatfield of Delbarton; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Lynn Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Mosley and Bro. Lonnie Francis officiating.
Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery at Thacker #11 Hollow.
Pallbearers will be Lyle Terry, Roger Lee, Carl David, Timothy Dean, John Harvey May and Dewey Spencer.
