Benjamin Pack

Benjamin "Bennie" Pack, 72, of Michigan, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001.

Born in Lovely, Ky., on Oct. 26, 1929, he was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 31 1/2 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alma; a son, Benjamin (Nancy) Pack; two daughters, Beth Ann (Jose) Lora and Theresa (Merlin) May; six grandchildren, Aisleen, Gus and Ben Pack, Nicole Lora, Corrin and Trisha May; three brothers, Jack, Ked and Jim Pack; two sisters, Ruth Chafin and Wilma Dean James, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at St. John Catholic Church in Jackson, Mich., with Rev. James Shaver officiating. Burial followed at St. John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. John Church or the American Heart Association would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Desnoyer Funeral Home.

Maywood Williams

Maywood Williams, 74, of South Charleston, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at his home after a long illness.

He was a certified life underwriter and was a retired district sales manager for Nationwide Insurance Company. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and was a member of the Dunbar Church of the Nazarene. He had been a resident of South Charleston for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Midkiff Williams; a son, Darrell Keith Williams of South Charleston; a daughter, Sheila Gay (Ed) Mucklow; a brother, Keith (Connie) Whitten of Cross Lanes; a sister, Sue Sizemore of Michigan, and grandchildren Susan and Steven Hooper of Huntington.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the Dunbar Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Philip Bowles and Franklin W. Goff officiating.

Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.

Effie Pacific

Effie Pacific, 96, of Williamson, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Mingo Manor Nursing Home.

Born May 8, 1905, in Floyd County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Johnson Hall.

She was a homemaker and a former employee of General Electric of Columbus, Ohio and a member of the Old Pond Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, August Pacific; a son Audery Pacific; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Red McCowan of Ragland and Gus Pacific of Cimeron, Kan.; a daughter, Gladys White of Belton, S.C.; a sister, Laura Yates of Reno, Nev.; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Rogers Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Elswick and others officiating. Burial will follow at Lenore Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Rose, Jimmy McCowan, Robert McCowan, Cliff Barnewell, Sammy Thacker, and Jimmy Watson.

Earl Junior Justice

Earl Junior Justice, 62, of Frankfort, Ky., formerly of Ransom, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at his residence.

Born Jan. 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Jessie and Elma Thompson Justice.

He was a retired coal miner from Scott's Branch Coal Company and a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church and an Army veteran, having served in the Bay of Pigs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Wilberta Estelle Farley Justice of Frankfort; a son, Tony Justice of Forest Hills, Ky.; a daughter, Angie (Jamie) Bloom of Marion, Ill.; four sisters, Helen Keller of Henry, Va., Trudie Puddock of Warren, Mich., Ellen Collins of Niangua, Miss., and Eathel Witkowski of New Port, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Dr. Allen Shouse officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. D.A.V. rites will be preformed by Belfry Chapter 141.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be Wayne Justice, Eddie Puddock, Tommy Keller, Jay Jay Keller, Edward Morris, Ryan Morris, David Hassloch, and Mike Hayse.

Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Bloom, Claude Keller, Dan Morris, Al Collins, Joe Witkowski, Jim Marcum, and Billy Adkins.

Allene Poland

Allene Caudill Poland, 60, formerly of Ragland, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Irene Caudill, and her husband, Archie Poland.

She is survived by a daughter, Doris Irene Teagardner of Columbus; a son, Archie Jay Poland; three grandsons, Eric Lee Teagardner, Jerry Michael Teagardner and Michael Lee Teagardner; a granddaughter, Bethany Hope Teagardner; two sisters, Lottie (Tom) Farley of Harts Creek, and Alma Burnett of Sunbury, Ohio; six brothers, Frank (Francis) Caudill of Hilliard, Ohio, James (Sandy), and Jerry (Bonnie) Caudill of Columbus, Ronald (Kathryn) Caudill of Gahanna, Ohio, Glen (Shirley) Caudill of Ragland, and Paul (Partricia) Caudill of Ragland and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Ssaturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at O.R. Woodyard Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Frank Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Field of Honor in Columbus.

Visitation will be between 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2001.

Richard Holbrook

Richard Holbrook, 79, of Oak Hill, Ohio formerly of Yolyn, WV, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001 in Logan General Hospital, Logan, WV.

Born Oct. 12, 1928, in Elliott County, KY, he was the son of the late Lan and Myrtle Fields Holbrook. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Herman Holbrook and great granddaughter Ashlee Lorraine Glandon.

He was a retired coal miner for Amherest Coal Company and a deacon in the Yoln Community Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Barley Holbrook, Oak Hill; son, Lan Morris (Jennie) Bolbrook, Man, WV; two daughters, Lilly (David) Collins, Commerice Township, Mich. and Lois (David) Sluss, Yolyn; sister Catherine (Mason) Glenn, Greenville, WV; 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

Active pallbearers will be Johnny Ray Owsley, Eddie Ferrell, Bill Stevens, Larry Mauk, Ricky Lowe and Hubert "Skeeter" Lowe.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wed., Jan. 2, 2002, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John McClung officiating. Burial will be at Holbrook Family Cemetery, Gilbert.

Visitation will be at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, WV is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Chiloe McCown

Chiloe McCown, 88, of Elkhorn City, KY, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, in Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002 at Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City. Burial will follow at McCown Cemetery, Haysi, Va.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2001

Isaac Collins

Isaac Collins, 70, of Debord, KY, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the Big Elk Baptist Church, Inez, KY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps and Son Funeral Home, Inez

Elaine Cisco

Elaine Cisco passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Hospice House in Brunswick, Ga. She was born in Mingo County, W.Va., daughter of the late Ralph and Audrey Lawson.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Winston Cisco. Also surviving are one son, Eric (Tina) Cisco of Burnt Fort, Ga.; three grandchildren, Ericka, Jenny and Jerrod Cisco, all of Burnt Fort; one sister, Pat (Ron) Evans, Folkston, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Folkston. Rev. Randy Jacoby and Rev. Gene McCullough officiated. Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery.

Virgie New

Virgie Ruth (Kennedy) New, 71, of Baisden, died at 2:47 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Logan General Hospital.

Born July 22, 1930 in Hampden, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lona Hatfield Kennedy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Ray New; five brothers, Wendell D. Kennedy, Thomas H. Kennedy, Luther Kennedy, Arthur A. Kennedy and Ireland (Cush) Kennedy; and one sister, Fannie Blankenship.

Mrs. New was a retired postal carrier, and member of the Full Gospel Church of God at Baisden.

Survivors include her husband, Amos New of Baisden; a son, David New of McCarr, Ky.; three daughters, Norma Jean Hatfield of Hampden, Wanda Morgan of Simon and Arlene VanNatter of Grassy Meadows; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hattie Ball of Cedar Bluff, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, with the Revs. Jonas Trent and Denny May.

Burial will follow in the Hatfield Cemetery, Sharon Heights, Hampden.

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel of Gilbert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Special services will be held at 7 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Steve Darnell

Steve Darnell, 49, of Belcher, Ky., died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation began after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Annette Casey

Annette Casey, 61, of Phelps, Ky., passed away Monday, April 1, 2002, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Phelps Chapel.

Hester Williamson

Hester Webb Williamson, 78, of Pikeville, Ky., died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ with Harold Hensley, Howard Pugh and Willie Abshire officiating.
