Nancy L. Carpenter
Nancy L. Webb McCullough Carpenter, 82, of St. Marys, died Dec. 20, 2001, at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital of Parkersburg.

She was born Aug. 4, 1919, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Deleno Homer and Ninna Hamilton Webb. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Midland, Texas , a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Sons & Daughters of Pioneer Riverman, a member of the Matamoras Area Historical Society and the Pleasants County Historical Society. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Marys High School. With her mother, operated a beauty parlor in St. Marys for a few years before she and her husband moved from St. Marys.

She is survived by her husband, Walter S. Carpenter; four children, Marilyn Gardner of Crofton, MD., Gregory W. McCullough of Pueblo, CO., Debra Landureth of Ft. Lupton, CO. and Barbara Collier of Austin, TX; six grandchildren; four stepsons, D. Quentin Carpenter, W. Webb Carpenter, Bryan H. Carpenter, all of St. Marys and John E. Carpenter of Belmont, WV.; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Edison McCullough; one sister, Sara W. Carpenter; one brother, Deleno Hamilton Webb; and two stepsons, Mark A. Carpenter and David E. Carpenter.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Marys United Methodist Church of St. Marys. Rev. Jim Kelly and Rev. Maurice Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 12110, Charleston, WV 25302, the American Lung Association, 415 Dickinson St., Charleston, WV 25302 or the Elevator Fund, St. Marys United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, St. Marys, WV 26170.

Billy Dean Childers
Billy Dean Childers, 49, of St. Marys died July 21, 2001, at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.

He was born Jan. 24, 1952, in Pleasants County, a son of Wylie E. and Betty Bailey Childers of St. Marys. He was a self-employed timberman, a member of the Elks Club, a member of the National Rifle Association, and was an avid late-model race car driver. His hobbies included racing, hunting and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deanna Damron Childers; four children, Lisa Dawn McCartney, Erin Marie Childers, Wylie Dean Childers and Katlynn Michele Childers, all of St. Marys; two grandchildren, Austin Harley McCartney and Alexander Preston McCartney of St. Marys; five brothers, Terry Childers, Rick Childers, Mike Childers and Larry Childers, all of St. Marys, and Paul Childers of Belmont; three sisters, Sharon Knight, Sheila Smith and Sonya King, all of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Childers; his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Audra Bailey; and his paternal grandparents, Sherm and Bessie Childers.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, t. Marys. Burial in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Betty Chorpenning
Betty White Chorpenning, 74, of Upper Arlington, OH, passed away Oct. 12, 2002, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Raven Rock, WV., a daughter of Don and Pearl White . In 1951, she married Al Chorpenning in Marietta, where they resided until 1990, at which time they moved to Upper Arlington. She was employed by Fenton Art Glass Company in Williamstown, and she owned and operated the Century 21 Full Service Realty Company in Marietta until retiring in 1990. She was devoted to her family and friends and bettered the lives of all the people she touched.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Drew Chorpenning and his wife, Sonia DelTedesco of Westerville, OH, and Brian Chorpenning and his wife, Lee Chorpenning of Upper Arlington, OH; two daughters, Diane Chorpenning of Hilliard, OH, and Betsy Chorpenning and her husband, Rick Reigle of Summit, NJ.; two grandchildren, Erin and Julie Chorpenning of Upper Arlington, OH, and Margo and Ryan Reigle of Summit, NJ.; two brothers, retired Major General Jerry White and his wife, Linda of Columbus, GA., and Don White and his wife, Wilma of Williamstown; and one sister, Margaret Cochrane and her husband Jim of Belmont.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hadley Funeral Home, 500 5th St., Marietta. Burial will follow at the historic Mound Cemetery, Marietta. A viewing will take place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jesse "Cline" Clark
Jesse "Cline" Clark, 81, of St. Marys, formerly of Newell, died Nov. 9, 2002.

He was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Atlasburgh, Pa., a son of the late Jesse and Hester Cowan Clark. A veteran of the Army, he served during World War II and the Korean Conflict working at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, in the nuclear research department. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the Charleston American Legion on and the T.R.E.A."

He is survived by his wife, Agnes McGurren Clark, at home; two sons, Jimmy Clark and his wife, Sandra, of Virginia and Michael Clark and his wife, Linda, of California; two grandsons, Richard and Michael Clark; three great-granddaughters, Cassie, Brooke and Brittany Clark; and a great-grandson, Michael Clark. Funeral services were held Tuesday, at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, with Ralph Wilson and son, Jimmy Clark officiating. Burial was in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens of Newell, where Tri State Veterans Burial Group accorded military services.

Patricia Ann Wilson Cline
Patricia Ann Wilson Cline, 57, of Newport, died July 14, 2001, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 10, 1943, in New Martinsville to Frank and Betty Henthorn Wilson of Newport. She was a 1962 graduate of River High School at Hannibal, OH, and she loved crafts and woodworking.

She is survived by her husband, David E. Cline; two daughters, Chrs Cline of Lancaster, OH, and Amy R. Cline Williams and her husband, Don, of Brandywine, MD; one sister, Carolyn Bird Adkins of Newport; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved pet, Keisha.

Services were Tuesday, July 17th at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. Steven M. Smith officiating. Burial was in Matamoras Cemetery.

Edna L. Cokeley
Edna L. Cokeley, 64, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away March 26, 2002, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio, after an extended battle with cancer.

She was born Nov. 9, 1937, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude Cumblidge. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Marys High School. She married George Cokeley in 1957 and moved to the family farm outside of Harrisville where she farmed with her husband for 40 years. She was a loving mother to six and a devoted wife for 45 years.

Surviving are her husband, George A. Cokeley; daughter, Teresa Cokeley of St. Marys; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Cynthia Cokeley of Charleston; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Cokeley of Schultz, W.Va.; son, Ronald Cokeley of Nutter's Farm; daughter, Lois Cokeley of St. Marys; son, Richard Cokeley of St. Marys; five grandchildren, George Hampton Cokeley, Grant Cokeley and Rachel Cokeley of Charleston; Amanda Cokeley of Schultz, W.Va.; Betsy Cokeley of St. Marys; three brothers, James Cumblidge of Williamstown; Jack Cumblidge of Ashland, Ky.; and Donald Cumblidge of Los Angeles, Calif.; six sisters, Betty Wright of Belpre, Jean Price of St. Marys, Peggy Cherryholms of San Francisco, Calif., Dorothy Randall of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Helen Garner and Connie Moore, both of St. Marys. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant siblings; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Marys United Methodist Church, St. Marys, with the Rev. Jim Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Glenda Mae Colvin
Glenda Mae Colvin, 67, of St. Marys, died March 27, 2001.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Beaver, Becky Hamilton and Jenny Colvin; sons, David and Richard Colvin; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Wright; and brothers, Lester McIntyre and Willard Wright.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys. Burial will be in the K. of P. Cemetery of Pine Grove, WV. Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in St. Marys.

Norman Blair Core
Norman Blair Core, 85, of St. Marys, died Oct. 27, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born Sept. 18, 1917, in St. Marys, a son of the late William Blair and Ruth Ann Marple Core. He had been employed with various aircraft manufacturers throughout the United States. He retired from Lockheed Aircraft in Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, and American Management Association. He was a Methodist.

He is survived by one son, Floyd Blair "Skip" Core of St. Marys; one brother, Guy Core and his wife, Helen, of Sequin, Texas ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rae Kesterson Core; and two brothers, Dean Core and Robert Levant Core.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Marys IOOF Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Kelly officiating. Calling hours from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Rodney Keith Cornell
Rodney (Rod) Keith Cornell, 48, of King William County, VA., died Tuesday, Jan.1, 2002.

Cornell is formerly of Pleasants County and was a previous owner of The Community Mall general store on Route 16 near St. Marys.

According to reports, Cornell died as the result of a hunting accident. An investigation suggested that Cornell fell and his shotgun discharged into his chest while he was hunting alone for rabbits.

He was the second of two children of the late Noel L Cornell and Mary K. (Locke) Cornell of Pleasants County.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Custalow Cornell; his stepson, James Randall Howard and his wife, Joanne; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rachael and William Christian Howard, all of Remlik, VA.; his sister, Nancy Nichols and her husband David, of Pleasants County; one niece, Erin Taylor and her husband, Cliff; and one great-niece, Hannah Taylor, all of West Virginia.

Cornell was the production control manager of SouthTech, Inc., Tappahannock, VA., for the past 12 years.

Services were held Friday, Jan. 4, a the Mechanicsville, VA. Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Interment was private.

Donation in lieu of flowers should be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Nellie E. Cox
Nellie E. Cox, 82, of St. Marys died Aug. 26, 2001, at Carehaven of Pleasants, Belmont.

She was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Maxwell (Nine Mile), Pleasants County, a daughter of the late Larnie C. and Bertha B. Higgins Fleming. She was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church, a 1936 graduate of St. Marys High School and a member of St. Marys Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired cook at St. Marys High School.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Gloria Cox, one grandson, Zachary R. Cox, one sister, Lucille Bell, sister-in-law, Grace Cox; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marthalene and Gail Arnett, all of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John Cox.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Jim Kelly officiating. Burial in St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Kenneth Robert Crawford
Kenneth Robert Crawford, 62, of St. Marys died May 7, 2001, at the V.A. Pittsburgh Healthcare Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Woodsfield, a son of the late Cecil and Louise Crawford of Beverly. He retired in 1997 from Kirby Monument Company, Parkersburg. He was also an employee of Joe Brookover. He was a member of the George Street Church of Christ in St. Marys.

Survivors include his wife of 7 years, Judy Ballard Crawford; two sons, Joey and his wife Kim of Edmond, Okla., and Bob and his wife Rhonda of Waterford, Ohio. Kenny and his sons had many wonderful memories hunting and fishing. He was loved and adored by his grandchildren, Trystan and Sydney Crawford of Waterford, Regan Crawford of Edmond, Brett Edwards of Reno; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dave Beals of Hilliard, Ohio; cousin, Sally Combs of Parkersburg; two step sons, John Ballard and wife, Lynne of Savannah Ga., and Brad Ballard, of San Francisco, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Carroll Crawford of San Clemente, Calif.

The family honored his wish that his body be cremated, therefore there will be no visitation. Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George Street Church of Christ, Stockport, Ohio.
