Ollie J. Fleming
Ollie J. Fleming, 82, of Route 1, St. Marys, died April 12, 2002.

He is survived by two sisters, Juanita Hendrickson and Evelyn Place; three nieces; and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in the Nine Mile Cemetery, Route 16, Pleasants County, with Masonic graveside rites and military graveside rites. Visitation from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Elva Grace Flowers
Elva Grace Flowers, 89, of Route 3, St. Marys, died August 3, 2001, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Parkersburg.

She was born June 19, 1912, in Charleston to the late Thomas C. and Molly Mazella Myers Parsons. She was a member of St. Marys Church of the Nazarene and a member of the senior citizens.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Elder of St. Marys and Donna Flowers Brown of Ijamsville, MD; one son, Kenneth W. Flowers of Lorain, OH; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Blanche Hart of Marietta.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil H. Flowers; and three sons, Roy Flowers, Raymond Flowers, and Robert Flowers.

Services were Tuesday, August 7, at St. Marys Church of the Nazarene with pastors Chuck Rogers and Carl S. Nutter officiating. Burial was in Willow Island Cemetery.

Ada Bernice Fox
Ada Bernice Fox, 97, of Davisville died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Willows Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 25, 1904, in Pleasants County, WV, a daughter of the late Milton E. and Cora Marshal Kidder. She was a member of the Marrtown Church of Nazarene and was employed at Paden City Pottery Co. for 20 years.

Many nieces and nephews and a large, loving extended family, including a niece and caregiver, Vivian Bently of Clarksville, MD, survive her.

She was preceded in death by three husbands; one son; five brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, the Rev. Jesse Keenan officiating. Burial will be in North View Cemetery, New Martinsville, WV. Visitation is from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Carolyn L. Frey
Carolyn L. Frey, 57, of Annadale, VA, died Dec. 14, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Parkersburg, a daughter of Everett and Dollie Campbell Higgins of St. Marys.

She was a 1962 graduate of St. Marys High School. She was employed by Burns, Doane, Sweker and Mathis law firm in Arlington, VA. She was a Protestant and had attended Willow Island Baptist Church before moving to Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Arthur "Buddy" Frey; one daughter, Angela D. Bailey and her husband David "Greg" of Spotsylvania, VA; one brother, Wayne Higgins of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial in Willow Island Cemetery, Willow Island. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Margaret L. Gainer
Margaret Lee Simonton "Butch" Gainer, 61, of Rt. 2, St. Marys died April 28, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born March 18, 1941 in St. Marys, a daughter of Sara Margaret Russell Pickens of Belmont and the late Frank Lee Pickens. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Marys High School, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Marys. She had worked for 29 years for the Sterling Oil Division of Quaker State Oil Refinery, later at Mid-Atlantic Fuel, and then Phoenix Petroleum until it closed. She had obtained the title of office manager. She had been employed by the West Central Publishing Company, St. Marys. She was a member of various parent and civic organizations.

She is survived by her husband, Larry G. Gainer; two sons, James Stephen Simonton and his wife, Lisa of Tampa, FL, and William Scott Simonton of St. Marys; one step son, Lance M. Gainer and his wife, Paula of Mineral Wells; four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amanda, Danielle and Michael; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; her first husband, William Kent Simonton; and one daughter, Leigh Ann Simonton.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys with Pastor John Strimer officiating. Burial will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Archie D. Garrison
Archie D. Garrison, 64, of Ogden Road, Waverly, died July 13, 2001, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born November 12, 1936, in Wood County to Minnie Moore Huggins of Belmont and the late Harry Garrison. He was a Christian and a member of Narrow Gate Baptist Church. He retired from Mullen Motors of Parkersburg as a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife Donna Garrison; a son, Mark Garrison and his wife, Bootsie, of Waverly; one daughter, Barbara Myers and her friend, Bill Repine, of Waverly; three grandchildren, Travis Garrison, Christy Martin and Jeff McDonald; two great-grandchildren, Joey Marcum and Brandie Marcum; three brothers, Ray Garrison, Dick Garrison and Russ Garrison, all of Waverly; and two sisters, Elsie Dornon of Waverly and Judy Jackson of Walker.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Ruth Pittman Garrison; an infant son, Mitchell Garrison; and a brother, Jack Garrison.

Services were Monday, July 16 at Narrow Gate Baptist Church with the Revs. Carl Lemley, Randy Dornon and Daniel Simmons officiating. Burial was in Middle Ridge Baptist Cemetery.

Ruth R. Gilmore
Ruth R. Gilmore, 91, of Parkersburg, died Sept. 18, 2002, at Worthington Manor.

She was born in Raven Rock, WV, daughter of the late Robert and Rebecca Martin.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet L. Shannon; two grandchildren, Charles A. "Skip" Shannon and Lois Cadle; and three great-grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Shannon, and Josh Cadle.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial in at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Luella Metts Graham
Luella Metts Graham, 75, of St. Marys, died April 26, 2001, in New Matamoras.

She was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Harold Christian and Edna Eddy Metts. She worked for Colin Anderson for 10 years, Weirton General Hopital, and Weirton Steel. She enjoyed sports and ‘‘The Golden Girls.’’ She was a hardworking and loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Wright of Steubenville, Ohio, Linda Kautzman of Maryville, Tenn., Darlene Shuler of Atlanta, Ga., and Alice Taylor of St. Marys; three sons, Harry Graham of St. Marys, Meck Graham of Newport, Ohio, and Dwight Graham of New Cumberland, W.Va.; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Metts; three sisters, Freda Pinny, Zella Moore, and Rosalie Fairbee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Graham Sr.; one son, James R. Graham Jr.; one brother, Raymond Metts; and one sister, Adeline Smith.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys, with Pastor Chuck Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Ingram Ridge Cemetery of Ritchie County. Calling hours are from 2-9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

James W. Greenwood
James William Greenwood, 72, of Newport died Aug. 9, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Newport, a son of the late William Gordon and Hazel McGrew Greenwood. He was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church. He helped his father and brother operate the Greenwood Dairy Farm, had been associated in the grocery business, had been an agent with the Equitable Life Insurance of New York and in later years was a self-employed oil and gas producer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Matamoras Lodge 374 F. & A.M., a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Cambridge, a member of the Aladdin Temple of the Shrine in Columbus, OH, a Marietta Shrine Club member, a member of the Matamoras Social Shrine Club, a member of the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Riverman and a member of the Middle Ohio River Chapter of the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Riverman.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley Knowlton Greenwood; one daughter, Jane Heiney and her husband David of Newport; two grandchildren, Nathan and Caroline Heiney of Newport; one son, James Christopher Greenwood and his wife Undine of New Matamoras; one brother, Sam Greenwood and his wife Vera of Newport; three nephews, Jeff Greenwood, Bill Greenwood and Bruce Greenwood, all of Newport; and his mother-in-law, Ruby Knowlton of New Matamoras.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the Newport United Methodist Church, Newport, the Rev. Steven M. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport. The family will receive friends from noon-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. today at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Home Nursing Service and Hospice, 210 N. Seventh Street, Marietta, OH or the Strecker Cancer Center, 401 Matthew St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.

Mildred E. Grimes
Mildred E. Grimes, 86, of St. Marys, died March 26, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

She was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Pleasants County to the late Homer and Rona Martin Stewart. She was a member of Dewey Avenue Church of Christ.

She is survived by three daughters, Martha Davis and her husband, Ralph, Judy Barnhart and her husband, Jess, and Nancy Grimes, all of St. Marys; one son, Joe Grimes and his wife, Sandy of St. Marys; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Opal Locke, Clarice Powell and Loretta Bills, all of St. Marys; one brother Ronald Stewart of St. Marys; and several nieces , nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred R. Grimes; one daughter, Mary Lou Bennett; one sister, Hazel Boyd; and two brothers, Clarence Stewart and Stanley Stewart.

Services were Thursday at Dewey Avenue with evangelists Earl Stevens and Dan Kessinger officiating. Burial was in St. Marys 100F Cemetery.

Alfred Louis Hall Jr.
Alfred Louis Hall Jr., 51, of Belmont, W.Va., died Jan. 31, 2001, at Lewis A. Johnson VA Hospital, after a long battle with malignant melanoma.

He was born Jan. 21, 1950, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Alfred L. Hall and Juanita G. Sethney of Arizona. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served two tours in Vietnam and was a life member of the VFW. At the time of Alfred’s death he was working toward his master’s degree in psychology. He was better known at West Virginia University - Parkersburg by his nickname ‘‘Julio’’ Hall.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Debora Hall of Belmont; one son, Craig Wetzel of Parkersburg; one grandson, Malachai Wetzel of the home; one brother, John W. Hall of Parkersburg; two sisters, Anna Phillips of California and Bette Lou Kill of New Zealand; two half sisters, Sara and Hatta Hall of Parkersburg; two half brothers, Louis Lee Hall and Don Louis Hall; one paternal uncle, John W. Hall Jr. of Parkersburg; three paternal aunts; five maternal aunts; three maternal uncles; and over 80 cousins.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, at Belmont United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dan Deem officiating. A gathering of friends will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
