Willie Frances Meadows
Willie Frances Meadows, 86, of Harmar Place, Marietta, formerly of Newport, Ohio, died Oct. 23, 2001.

She was born May 7, 1915, at Ballard, W.Va., daughter of the late Oran W. and Maude Hill Thompson. She attended a one-room school and later attended Talcott High School. She married Thomas Marshall Meadows on June 14, 1932. She was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church and attended Newport United Methodist Church. She worked at the Meadow’s Variety Store and Harris Grocery Store as a clerk until retirement.

She was a charter member of the St. Marys Golf Course and had been honored with Willie Meadow’s Day by the Woman’s Golf Association. She continued golfing until the age of 78. She was an avid bowler in leagues in both Marietta and Parkersburg, and had traveled throughout the country for state and national tournaments until the age of 76.

She enjoyed her monthly Rook Club and was a member of the Newport Fire Department’s First Woman’s Auxiliary. She was active in the Newport School organizations. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and sewing.

She is survived by four daughters, Jackie Edgar and her husband, Howard of Newport, June Perrine and her husband, Jerry of North Fort Myers, Fla., Janis ‘Boots’ Martin and her husband, Bernard of Newport, and Karen Tenney of Belmont, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey Edgar and his wife, Vicka, Scott Edgar and his wife, Barbara, Jane Warden and her husband, Terry, Tom Perrine, Sherry Farley and her husband, Clarence, Todd Perrine and his wife, Angie, Tami Larson and her husband, Dudley, Jay Martin and his wife, Connie, Jackie Casey and her husband, Matt, Holly Hinton and her husband, Charles, and Joseph Tenny; 17 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one sister, Ruth Mowery of Forest Hills, W.Va.; two brothers, Fred Thompson of Ballengee, W.Va., and Tom Thompson and his wife, Lillie of Mascotte, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; one grandchild, Angela Tenney; one sister, Ellen Mills; and three brothers, Arnel Thompson, Sanford Thompson and Dean Thompson.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Newport United Methodist Church of Newport, Ohio, with the Rev. Steven M. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys, and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Harold L. Medley
Harold L. Medley, 84, of Belmont, W.Va., died July 8, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born April 10, 1918, in New Martinsville, W.Va., a son of the late Albert Leroy and Elva Hoskins Medley. He was member of the Akron Baptist Temple, he attended Romney School for the deaf, he worked for the Firestone Rubber Company in Akron for 35 years, and he enjoyed golf and baseball.

He is survived by two brothers, Gerald Medley and his wife, Lois, of Belmont, C.J. Medley and his wife, Priscilla, of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Marlene Medley of Vienna; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Drake Medley; two sisters, Phyllis Harper, and Neoma VanCamp.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Rev. Gene Adkins officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasants Memorial Estates, Eureka, W.Va. Calling hours from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen Grace Miller
Helen Grace Miller, 84, of Redlands, Calif., formerly of St. Marys, died Sept. 16, 2002, at the Redlands Community Hospital.

She was born Jan. 17, 1918, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Arvel and Bertie Dearth Miller. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, St. Marys, and the Women Benefit Association.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas J. Miller; one daughter, Pamela Barre and her husband, Ed of Redlands, CA.; two grandsons, Gregory Myers of Redlands, CA. and Thomas Myers of San Diego, CA.; and one sister, Pauline Stewart of St. Marys.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 67, St. Marys, WV

Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys is in charge of local arrangements.

Theodore K. ‘‘Ted’’ Miller
Theodore K. ‘‘Ted’’ Miller, II, 41, of Route 1, St. Marys, died Feb. 20, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born Nov. 29, 1959, in Parkersburg, a son of Theodore K. Sr. and Donna Wilson Miller, of Belleville, W.Va. He was a former drill sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Ft. Knox, Ky., serving in the U.S. Navy for 13 years and attained the rank of first class quartermaster. He served two tours to the Persian Gulf during the Persian Gulf War. He joined the Merchant Marines and attained both licenses of Captain and Navigational Instructor. He captained a tugboat running trips between Alaska and Siberia. He had been a captain for the Alaskan Cruise Lines.

He and his parents, moved from Washington state to Parkersburg in 1985. He became a captain for Ruble Sternwheelers. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in charge of heavy equipment. During this time he traveled to Germany. He attended the West Virginia Correctional Academy in Institute, W.Va. He served as a correctional officer at the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, W.Va. and later was transferred to the St. Marys Correctional Center. He was a member of the Celebration Center of St. Marys, and was to attend the Trinity Bible College.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Washington state, a member of the National Christmas Tree Association, a member of the National Liver Foundation and the Liver and Tissue Donation Association. He was a Washington County of Ohio, District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the American Legion, a member of the U.S. Candlemakers Association. He, along with his wife, owned and operated WV Moonglow Candle Company.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Brenda Simmons Miller; four sons, Luke Campbell of Parkersburg, Lincoln Campbell of Sistersville and Teddy Miller and Mason Miller both at home; triplet siblings, Cody Miller, Katy Rocha, and Kelly Luccro all of Ravenswood; and one brother, Garin Paul Miller of California.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Celebration Center, State Route 2, south of St. Marys, with Pastor Gary Saler officiating. Burial will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery, Route 16 east of St. Marys, with military graveside services. Calling hours from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ted K. Miller, II Memorial Fund, c/o First National Bank, P.O. Box 180, St. Marys, W.Va. 26170.

Ralph J. Mitchell
Ralph Juliana Mitchell, 71, of Vienna, died July 18, 2002, as a result of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1930, in St. Marys, a son of the late George Curtis and Vesta Iris Mitchell.

Ralph, sometimes known as "Mike," was a radio technician and owned Commercial Two-Way Radio in Vienna. He worked for Bobier Electronics until starting his own business. He was an active amateur radio operator, ham operator N8UXD and in his early days, was active in Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Stephenson United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dee Hoffman Mitchell, whom he married Sept. 21, 1984; three children, Debra Lee Mitchell-Gates and her husband, Wayne Gates of Vienna, Daniel E. Mitchell and his wife, Linda of Parkersburg, Marcia Lee Moore and her husband, Gerald of Connelly Springs, NC.; his sisters, Vesta Iris Miller and her husband, Glen of Marietta and Phyllis Burton and her husband Glen of Harmony Acres, St. Marys; three step-children, Connie Mahone and her husband, Jeffrey Mahone of Parkersburg, Jay Edward Cunningham and his wife, Margaret of Woodinville, WA., and Robert Edward Cunningham and his wife, Amy Dahlgren of VA.; one grandchild, Ruth Ann Moore of Connelly Springs, NC.; four step-grandchildren, Shea Anne Leigh Llewellyn of Parkersburg, Phillip Warner Cunningham and Benjamin of Dahlgren, VA., Sean Cunningham and Brian Cunningham of Woodinville, WA.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Alberta Mitchell; two brothers, Howard Lockhart Mitchell and Norman Curtis Mitchell Sr.; his first wife, Betty Dunn Mitchell, who died July 14, 1980; one son, Mathew Mitchell, who died in 1991, and grandchild Heather Lynn Moore who died in 1985.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Stephenson United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Grand Central Ave. Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Stephenson United Methodist Church Music Fund or Parkersburg Urban Ministries and 11th and Market St., Parkersburg.

Betty Marie Moore
Betty Marie Moore, 71, of Parkersburg, died Oct. 14, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Parkersburg.

She was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Vienna, daughter of the late Emery Marvin and Opal Trudeau Fetty Barker and wife of the late Billie Moore. She was a member of the Winding Road Church of Christ; a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau; and a member of the West Virginia Retired School Employees. She worked as a custodian for Lincoln School and the Wood County School District. She was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed caring for those who were sick.

She is survived by three children, Peggy Shields, Tom Moore and his wife, Rachelle and Carol Moore all of Parkersburg; two grandchildren, Charles Moore and James Shields both of Parkersburg; two brothers, Lawrence ‘Gart’ Barker of Danville, Ky., and Harold Kenneth Barker of Salt Lake City, Utah; and nieces and nephews, Patty Relaford and Larry Barker of Danville, and Levina Ellis and Joe Barker of Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home of St. Marys, with Evangelist Tom Butterfield officiating. Burial will be in McKim Cemetery of Pleasants County. Calling hours are from 4-9 .pm. Thursday and up until service time Friday.

Sarah Joan Moore
Sarah Joan Moore, 50, of Oil Ridge, Tyler County died June 15, 2001, at her residence as a result as a riding lawnmower accident.

She was born March 28, 1951, in Pleasants County, a daughter of James L. “Buddy” Sr. and Vera Davis Morrell of St. Marys. She was a 1969 graduate of St. Marys High School, had attended Cow Creek United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Persley Club. She loved cooking, crafts, camping, motorcycling, and was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed looking out for others.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Gerald Moore; one daughter, Jodi Lou Moore of Philadelphia; one son, Josh Kenneth Moore and his wife Lea with the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Linda Mayfield of Norfolk, Va. and Cassie Gorrell of St. Marys; two brothers, James L. Morrell Jr. of Waverly and Mack Morrell of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cindy Morrell and Netti Cunningham; and one brother, Kenneth Morrell.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Bud Corbin and the Rev. Hollie Thompson officiating. Burial in Willow Island Cemetery, Willow Island. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday and from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty C. Nance
Betty C. Nance, 80, of Belmont, WV, died , April 8, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Belmont, a daughter of Charles E. and Jennie Lind Webb Canter. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, she was a 1941 graduate of St. Marys High School, and retired in 1984 from the U.S. Army, where she served as an administrative clerk at the Army Research Institute as a civilian.

She is survived by one nephew, Charles E. Cantner, and other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Holland Nance; one brother, Carl B. Cantner; and one sister, Evelyn Adams.

Services will be held noon Wednesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Evangelist David Powers officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Calling hours from 7-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bruce E. Nichols
Bruce Edward "Nick" Nichols, 58, of St. Marys died April 16, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Ina Rawson Nichols; four brothers, Fred Nichols, Roger Nichols, Gary Nichols and Dale Nichols; one sister, Barbara Cornell; three very special self-adopted sons, Bob Jenkins., Charlie Stewart and George English.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys. Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
