Robert Shannon “Mac” McElwee, age 43, of Clermont, Florida, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, of cancer.
Mr. McElwee was a Project Manager for Sentry Electric of Orlando, Florida.
Born in Orlando, he was a lifelong resident of Central Florida.
He was a Presbyterian and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Bahai Shrine Temple of Orlando.
Survivng him are his wife, Linda R. McElwee; one son, Robert Shannon, II; step-son, Jay Siebrecht, of West Palm Beach, Florida; his parents, Mary Alice and Robert McElwee, of Marlinton; sister, Connie L. Wilken, of Orlando; and a brother, Michael McElwee, of Newport News, Virginia.
A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, May 31, at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home in Orlando.
Ronald Ray Simmons
Lt. Ronald Ray Simmons, of Pocahontas County Sheriff Department, died June 4, 2000. He was a 14 1/2 year veteran of law enforcement.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 121, A.F.&A.M. at Hillsboro, Fraternal Order of Police, active coach in Little League, co-founder of the Pocahontas County Needy children’s fund. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by wife, Debra Kay; a son, Ronald Ray, II; two daughters, Michelle Dawn and Hilary Ann, all at home; his father, Claude, and step-mother, Sandi Simmons, of Craigsville; mother, Clara Cottrell, and step-father, Winston Cottrell, of Florida; brother, Robert Gray Simmons, of Marlinton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p. m. at the Hillsboro McNeel Gymnasium by the Rev. Julian Rittenhouse, Robert Mann, and the Rev. Jerry Lee. Burial was in the Sunset Cemetery at Jacox.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made for his children’s college fund at First Citizens Bank in Marlinton.
Frances Trader
Frances Hill Jordan Trader, 80, of Belmont, died June 3, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkers- burg.
She was born June 2, 1920, on the family farm at Hillsboro, the daughter of the late James Winters and Georgia Virginia Morgan Jordan.
Mrs. Trader was a 1941 graduate of Hillsboro High School and trained as a registered nurse at Fairmont Emergency Hospital. She was a member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two sons, George Trader, of St. Marys, and John William Trader, of Hillsboro, Illinois; three sisters, Lucy Vandergrift, of Fairmont, Mildred Walton and Nancy Fowler, both of Hillsboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Trader, on March 4, 1988, and two brothers, James Jordan and Harry Jordan.
Services were held on Monday at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial was in the West Virginia National Cemetery at Pruntytown.
Melissa P. Gum
Melissa Payne Gum, 72, died on May 9, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born on March 3, 1928, in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late William Okey and Josie Humphrey Payne.
She was a graduate of Pax High School, Concord College, and received her master's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She taught school in Raleigh County for seven years, five years in Warren County, Ohio, and for 20 years at Mayfield School in Middletown, Ohio, before retiring in 1979. She was teacher of the year in 1974.
Following retirement Mrs. Gum moved to Oak Hill. She was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, the Fayette County Historical Society, Fayette County Retired Teachers Associa- tion, and the White Oak Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. She volunteered as a guide at the Contentment Museum and helped prepare the 1993 book on Fayette County history.
Surivors include her husband, Charles Wallace Gum, whom she married on May 28, 1954; five brothers, William U. Payne, of Miami, Florida, John A. Payne, of Sacramento, California, Waymon H. Payne, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Franklin L. Payne, of Fayetteville, and Lowell E. Payne, of Sissonville; and one sister, Mary Jo Morris, of Rock- bridge, Ohio.
Services were held on May 11 at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the High Lawn Memorial Park at Oak Hill.
Austin McCoy Sharp
Austin McCoy Sharp, age 80, of Route 1, Marlinton, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center
He was born March 13, 1920, at Marlinton, the son of the late Paul Warwick and Mary Catherine Sharp.
Mr. Sharp served in the Army during World War II. He retired from Sewell Coal Company after 32 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member and elder of the Assembly of God Church, Marlinton; for many years he was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of Stony Creek Presbyterian Church.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He and his twin brother, Oscar, were widely known as the “Bear Hunting Sharp Twins.” He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were four brothers, Charles J. Sharp, twin Oscar Sharp, Lanty Sharp, and Layton Sharp; and five sisters, Hazel Russell, Polly May, Nettie VanReenen, Sylvia Moore, and Marlie Curry.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eula Mae Underwood Sharp; four daughters, Elvina Arlene Nay, of LaGrange, Ohio, Vivian Leigh Reed, of Marlinton, Rebecca Ann Sharp, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Mary Rachel Sharp, of Aiken, South Carolina; three sons, Paul Warwick Sharp, of Marlinton, Gary Wayne Sharp, of Caldwell, and Randy Allen Sharp, of Marlinton; a sister, Nina Waybright, of Bluefield; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday afternoon at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Rev. John McKinney. Burial with military honors was in the Sharp Cemetery on Jericho Road.

Henry Lee Scott
Henry Lee Scott, age 68, of Rogers, Arkansas, died May 30, 2000.
He had lived in Arkansas thirty years. He was of the Pentecostal faith, a member of the House of Prayer in Rogers. He was a member of the Governor’s Golden Mountaineer Program and sponsor of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A veteran of the
Korean War, he was a Sergeant in the Air Force and was a member of Bella Vista POA.
Born in Pocahontas County August 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Lida Rose Scott.
A brother, Smith Freeman Scott, also preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his wife, Alvina Scott; two step-daughters, Jessica Fay Scheile and Julie Anne Scheile, both of Rogers; a step-son, Joshua Lee Scheile, of Rogers; and two sisters, Dot Vaughan, of Hillsboro, and Mary Frances Dilley, of Dunmore.
Graveside services were held by the Rev. Carl Holland at Emmanuel Cemetery on Bruffeys Creek, with military honors by Air Force Honor Guard from Washington , D. C.
Willard A. Hackett, Jr.
Willard A. Hackett, Jr., age 43, of Green Bank, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at home.
Mr. Hacket was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Baptist Church at Green Bank.
He was born July 8, 1956, in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania , the son of Willard A. Hackett, Sr., and Josephine Reed Hackett. Surving him are his wife, Jeralee Harmor Hackett; two daughters, April Lynn and Trish; a son, Willard Ashley Hackett, III, and a stepson, Corry Lassen; five sisters, Fran, Pam Hall, Brenda, Mary Jo King, and Josephine Cummings; three brothers, Mike, Arthur and Jimmy Hackett; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Tom D. Morrison
Tom D. Morrison, age 69, of Frank, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at his home.
The son of the late Herbert H. and Ora Dilley Morrison, he was born in Charleston, January 16, 1931.
A brother, Herbert Morrison, is deceased.
Mr. Morrison worked for International Shoe Company in Marlinton from 1950, serving as Plant Manager when they closed in 1970; from 1970 to 1987 he was Plant Manager for Howes Leather Company, Inc., at Frank. He was a member of the Marlinton United Methodist Church. He had been a member of the Marlinton United Methodist Men and active in the Marlinton Little League organization.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen W. Bennett Morrison; three sons, Douglas Glen Morrison, of Gaines, Pennsylvania , Tom Dilley Morrison, Jr., of San Jose, California, and Frank Morgan Morrison, of Marlinton; a step-daughter, Ruth E. Smith; two step-sons, David A. White and Michael C. White ; four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p. m. Wednesday at VanReenen Funeral Home.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. at VanReenen Funeral Home by the Rev. David R. Rittenhouse. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Manyon M. Millican
Manyon M. Millican, age 73, of Lewisburg, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama, and Snowshoe, died June 10, 2000, at home, after a short illness.
Mr. Millican was a Protestant and an employee and special assistant to the president and CEO of Govt.com, a Lewisburg-based software and internet applications company. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and also a pharmacist licensed to practice in Alabama. In Alabama, he was the first paid executive director of the Alabama Republican Party, and was national director of the Voter Canvassing Program in the national presidential campaign of 1972. Coming to West Virginia, he helped start Snowshoe Ski Resort and was marketing director, vice president and board member. He was a member of the American Association of Political Consultants, the American Pharmaceutical Association, and the National Ski Area Association. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and completed his pharmacy studies in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born October 16, 1926, at Harriman, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Mary Meadows Millican.
Surviving him are his daughter, Jan Millican Barb, of Marlinton; sons, Mark and Reid Millican, both of Birmingham, and Scott Millican, of Snowshoe; five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Peter Millican, a brother, Carl Millican, and a sister, Carlene Millican.
Services were held Wednesday at McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Rosamary McCormick
Rosamary V. McCormick, age 70, of Dunbar, died June 9, 2000, at home.
She was retired from the former Fad Furniture and Cohen Drug Store. She was a native of Ashland, Kentucky, and a long-time resident of the Kanawha Valley.
Surviving her are her husband, Charles W. McCormick; five daughters, Becky Reed, of Green Bank, Janet Jones, of Cross Lanes, Madelyn Dodson, of Barboursville, Kathryn Mullis, of Crossville, Tennessee, and Amy Slater, of Poca; and a sister, Margaret Garten, of South Charleston.
Memorial service was held at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, by the Rev. Dean G. Borgmeyer.
