Mary Ann Given, age 48, of Richwood, died Monday, June 5, 2000, in CAMC, General Division, after a short illness.
She was an employee of Watergate Inn, Richwood, and attended Little Laurel Baptist Church, Richwood.
Survivors include companion, Charlie Jackson; son, Jimmy, of Richwood; brother, Bill Spencer, of Bessemer City, North Carolina; sisters, Shirley Worrell, of Marlinton, Kathryn Hamrick, of Craigsville, Cleta Spencer and Debbie Myers, both of Richwood.
Services were held Thursday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, by the Rev. Stanley Blankenship. Burial was in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.
Mike Shane

Mary Virginia Garber
Mary Virginia Garber, age 83, of Dunmore, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Pocahontas Center.
She was a retired clerk and a member of the Dunmore United Methodist Church.
The daughter of the late O. J. and Louise Moore Campbell, she was born at Dunmore June 9, 1917.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul Garber, her parents, and two sisters, Martha Jean Lovelace and Katherine Campbell.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane McLaughlin, of Green Bank; a son, Jim Garber, of Dunmore; a sister, Dorothy Lovelace, of Dunmore; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at Dunmore United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Ingleton. Burial will be in the Dunmore Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 at VanReenen Funeral Home.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Dunmore United Methodist Church.
Allen Mahaffey
Allen Denver Mahaffey, age 60, of Route 1, Marlinton, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at the University of Cincinnati Burn Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, following an accidental blaze involving a grill.
Mr. Mahaffey was a Safety Inspector for Brown and Root Construction and a Presbyterian. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Covington Moose Lodge.
The son of the late Herbert Henry and Lenna Inis Waugh Mahaffey, he was born at Dunmore September 24, 1939.
His parents, two brothers, Alpha Mahaffey and Junior Harlin Mahaffey, and a sister, Vera Lorena VanDevender, preceded him in death.
Surviving him are his wife, Lillian Barb “Sissy” Mahaffey; a son, Cole Denver Mahaffey, and a step-son, Louis Matthew McCarty, both at home; and a sister, Juanita Sharp, of Covington, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at VanReenen Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Randy Benson. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 9 at VanReenen Funeral Home.

Glenna Smith Curry
Glenna Smith Curry, age 92, of Mill Gap, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at King’s Daughters’ Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 9, 1908, in Highland County, a daughter of James Sherman and Sarah Catherine Crummett Curry. She was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Elery Curry, in 1971.
She is survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at Green Hill United Methodist Church by Reverend Jerry Ginn and Reverend C. William Cox. Burial followed in Green Hill Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to King’s Daughters’ Community Health and Rehab Center.
Brianna Paige Moore, of Concord, North Carolina, died at birth at the Northeast medical Center in Concord on Monday, August 7, 2000.
The infant is survived by her parents, Thomas Jason and Michelle Moore, of Concord; brother, Joseph, at home; grandparents, Thomas and LuAnne Moore, of Orlando, Florida, and Bill and Margaret Smith, of Gainesville, Georgia, and Winston Kelly, of Bainbridge, Georgia; great-grandparents Lucy C. Moore, of Marlinton and Louise Kelly, of Bainbridge.
Arrangements for services are incomplete at this time.
Harold E. Byrd
Harold Edward Byrd, Cdr., USN (Ret.), 77, of Ridgecrest, California, died July 25, 2000, at the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital.
He was born at Cass on June 18, 1923, and served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1969. He was a pilot during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Cdr. Byrd earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and a law degree from the American University Law School. He retired from the Navy as legal officer at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, California, and retired from Cal State University, Northridge, California, in 1980, where he was a Navy legal advisor to the school president.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Bryd; three daughters, Kathy DeKarr, of Temple City, California, Becky Blum, of Simi Valley, California, and Nancy Holtrop, of Palmdale, California; three sons, William Byrd, of Topeka, Kansas, James Byrd, of Ridgecrest, and Robert Byrd, of Sonoma, California; 15 grandchildren, and four great-grand-children.
Private services were provided by the Neptune Society. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
David Sheibley
David G. F. Sheibley, age 81, of Huntersville, died Monday morning, August 14, 2000, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor, Virginia.
Born in Newport, Pennsylvania , February 7, 1919, he was the son of the late George and Mae Freeland Sheibley.
Prior to retirement he was employed by the Pocahontas County Board of Education. Before coming to Pocahontas he was co-owner of restaurants in Virginia, and previously he served as a supervisor of rubber plantings for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Liberia, on the west coast of Africa. Mr. Sheibley was co-owner of Wildwood Tree Farm on Hill Country Road. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and was an Army veteran of World War II, member of V.F.W. Post #34, Newport, Pennsylvania , American Legion Post #177, Newport, life member of the 94th Infantry Division Association, life member of The Perry Historians, Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Zeta, A.A. R.P., and Pocahontas County Association of Retired School Employees
He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Ludwig.
Surviving him are his business partner, Harry Hock; a niece, Cynthia Ann Ludwig, of Frazer, Pennsylvania , and a nephew, David E. Ludwig, of Newport, Pennsylvania .
His body was cremated. Memorial services will be held later in the fall.

Neven Leo Summerfield
Neven Leo Summerfield, age 73, of Elkins, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. He had been in failing health since 1982.
Mr. Summerfield was employed by Elkins Limestone for 26 years and also worked at Labcraft. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army in Japan. He was a member of H. W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and was a volunteer driver of the Disabled American Van. He was a Protestant by faith.
A native of Cass, he was born November 14, 1926, a son of the late Carl and Floda Smith Summerfield.
He was married for 53 years to the former Faye Moore, who survives in Elkins. Also surviving are a son, Jim Summerfield, of Elkins; two daughters, Nancy Helmick, of Elkins, and Patty Wamsley, of Mill Creek; three grandsons; a sister, Rhoda “Sis” Barb, of Marlinton; and two brothers, Huffman Summerfield, of Baltimore, Maryland, and William Summerfield, of Canton, Ohio.
One brother, Virgil Summerfield, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins by the Rev. Ralph Summerfield. Burial was in the Little Arlington Cemetery near Elkins.

Harold Campbell died Friday, August 11, in Chicago.
Lee Inman Torrey
Lee Inman Torrey, age 71, of Huntersville, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at home.
Mr. Torrey was retired from the U. S. Navy. He saw service in the
Korean War.
The son of the late Guy L. and Nellie O. Baird Inman, he was born April 8, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri.
His wife, Dorothy Jassay Torrey, is deceased.
A brother, Eddie G. Inman, of Independence, Missouri, survives.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday in Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Moore.
