Mary Beard Stulting

Mary Frances Beard Stulting, age 84, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in a Charlottesville hospital.

Born July 20, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Joel P. and Mamie Cackley Beard, of Hillsboro.

Her husband, John C. Stulting, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stulting was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing, and was a retired nurse from the University of Virginia Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Ann Plunkett, of Charlottesville; a son, Richard Lee Stulting, of Afton, Virginia; a sister, Virginia Lee Callison, of Hillsboro; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service was held August 1 in Monticello Memory Gardens by the Rev. Don Carlton.

John Henry Harris

John Henry Harris, age 72, of Elk Creek, died Saturday, August 4, 2001, at Logan General Hospital, Logan, after a long illness.

Mr. Harris was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA, Local 7555, for 51 years. He was ministered to in his home by the Pathway Church of God at Christian.

A native of Thacker, he was born August 14, 1928, the son of the late John William and Josephine Irene Willis Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle McCoy Harris, and three sisters, Virginia Parker, Dorothy Parker, and Lucille May.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Lankas, of Bartow, and Myra Russell, of Three Mile Curve-Lyburn; three sons, Harold Edward Harris, of Combs Addition-Davin, Roger "Tye" Harris, of Spice Creek, and John Henry Harris, Jr., of Delbarton; a brother, Ralph Eugene Harris, of Red Jacket; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel at Man by the Rev. Harrison Williamson. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Judy Elaine Burkhammer

Judy Elaine Burkhammer, age 52, of Weston, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born September 22, 1948, in Marlinton, a daughter of Norman Dale and Ruth Valara Sheets Beverage, both of whom survive in Weston.

Also surviving are a son, Christopher Lane Burkhammer, of Weston; one grandson; one brother, Larry D. Beverage, of Denver, Pennsylvania ; and one sister, Sharon L. Jerden, of Weston.

She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Sheets, of Hillsboro.

Mrs. Burkhammer was an administrative assistant with Allegheny Wire Line with 23 years of service. She was a member of the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held July 20 in the Boyle Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Russell Furr and Robert Heater. Burial was in the Weston Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church, c/o Sharon Jerden, 88 Hoffman Avenue, Weston, WV 26452, or the American Cancer Society.

Larry B. Plyler

Larry B. Plyler, of Waynesboro, Virginia, died Sunday, August 5, 2001, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.

He was born December 28, 1951, in Marlinton, the son of Bertha Hoover Plyler, of Bartow, and the late Luther Plyler.

He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church of Waynesboro, Lee Lodge 209 A.F.&A.M., Waynesboro B.P.O.E. Lodge 2270, and was employed by Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center as a Vocational Teacher.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Plyler.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Phyllis Ply-ler; daughters, Melissa Plyler and Amanda Kelso.

A memorial service was held by the B.P.O.E. Lodge 2270.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Main Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Wilfred M. Mayton, with burial in Riverview Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Lee Lodge 209, A.F.&A.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mortgage Reduction Fund of B.P.O.E. Lodge 2270, 1700 Harvard Road, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980, or to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, P. O. Box 1427, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.

Russell J. Powers

Russell J. "Jerry" Powers, age 55, of Elkins, died Friday, August 3, 2001, due to cardiac arrest.

He was born December 8, 1945, at Spruce, a son of the late Francis K. and Dovie Lillian Howell Powers.

He attended the schools of Pocahontas County, was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, was a construction worker for Fauquier Building Systems at Springfield, Virginia, was a member of the Elkins Moose Lodge #375, the Front Royal Moose Lodge #829, the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Linden United Methodist Church at Linden, Virginia.

He was formerly married to Brenda Sue Rexrode Powers, who survives in Elkins. Also surviving are three daughters, Donna Gail Watson, Carol Lynn Powers, and Amie Sue Powers, all of Elkins; one brother, Murl Francis Powers, of Hagerstown, Maryland; three sisters, Okareta Dolly "Rita" Blake, of Linden, Virginia, Wanda June Sharp and Joyce Kay Maize, both of Elkins; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Three sisters, Juanita Gale Fansler, Arveda Geraldine Daman, and Bernice Christine White McClain preceded him in death.

Final rites were conducted at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home in Elkins Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Walter H. Blough. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, with full military rites by the H. W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Wanda Ann Barker

Wanda Ann Barker, age 64, of St. Albans, died Friday, August 3, 2001, at her home after a long illness.

She was a native of St. Albans and had formerly lived in Cass, where she worked in the Cass Scenic Railroad Company Store and Gift Shop for 15 years. She was a Protestant.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Eliza Casdorph, of St. Albans; sons, Harvey and Victor Barker, of Savannah, Georgia, Howard Barker, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, James Barker, of St. Albans; daughters, Ginavee Barker, of Augusta, Georgia, and Trina Mannon, of Utah; brothers, Norman, Alfred, and Delmar Lacy, of St. Albans; sisters, Rebecca Bowen, Connie MacCormick, Valorie Little and Verna MacCallister, of St. Albans, Patricia Seldomridge, of White Sulphur Springs, Mary Stenson, of Ohio, and Pam Blake, of Huntington.

Graveside services were held Sunday at the Lacy Family Cemetery in St. Albans.

Mrs. Rhoda Monk

Mrs. Rhoda Monk, of Boyer, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001.

No funeral arrangements have been made at press time. Wallace and Wallace Funeral home has the body.

Moser B. Herold

Moser Bedford Herold, of Minnehaha Springs, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001.

Arrangements are incomplete at press time. The body is at Van-Reenen Funeral Home.

James H. Milam

James Herbert. Milam, age 79, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died May 16, 2001.

He was born in Charleston, and was the son of the late Kenneth and Iva Milam.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly Houchin Milam; daughters, Chris Evans, of Virginia Beach, Carla Bowser, of Indiana; two brothers, Brady Milam, of South Charleston, and Kenneth Milam, Jr., of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Betty Burdette, of Akron, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at the Calvary Assembly of God by Rev. Joe Gwynn with burial in Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jean P. Ervin

Jean Gray Pusey Ervin, 83, of Baltimore, Maryland, died August 3, 2001.

She was born at Renick, the daughter of Delbert Zedock and Ada Emma Bobbit Pusey, and grew up in Cass.

She married Leland (Hap) Ervin and in 1945 the family moved to Baltimore.

Survivors include one son, Leland E. Ervin, of Missouri; one daughter, Barbara Jean White , of Maryland; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Ada Louise Ervin; four sisters, Shirley Galord, Margaret Neighbors, Gertrude Thompson, and Neoma Hinkle; five brothers, Jack Pusey, Buck Pusey, Bud Pusey, Bea Pusey, and Jim Pusey.

Ethel E. Barlow

Ethel E. Barlow, 96, formerly of Marlinton, died at her home in Elkins on Tuesday.

Funeral service will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Marlinton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Robert Mann officiating. Burial will be in Cochran Cemetery.

James Henry Kelley

James Henry Kelley, age 76, of Cass, died Monday, October 8, 2001, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital.

Kelley had been a State Road worker and a logger. He was a Methodist. He served in the Army in the Korean War.

The son of the late Eugene and Anna Clark Kelley, he was born at Wesley Chapel August 23, 1925.

Surviving him are two daughters, Barbara Darlean Fleckenstein, of Callicoon, New York, and Deloris Jean Turner, of Cass; four sisters, Rhoda Fertig, of Greenville, Pennsylvania , Ruth Saunders, of Mentor, Ohio, Lou Smith, of Euclid, Ohio, and Annette Elza, of New Coney, Texas ; five brothers, Loren Kelley, of Green Bank, Walter Kelley, of Clover Lick, Robert Kelley, Eastlake, Ohio, Newt Kelley, Kirtland, Ohio, and Ted Kelley, of San Antonio, Texas ; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Two brothers, Bernell Kelley and Arlie Kelley, are deceased.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at VanReenen Funeral Home by Michael Bond. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
