Richard Allen McCarty, age 30, of Marlinton, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Pocahonas Memorial Hospital.
He was a heavy equipment operator.
The son of Mary Sharp McCarty and the late Phillip Wayne McCarty, he was born at Marlinton March 30, 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ann Biggs McCarty; two daughters, Richelle Ann McCarty and Roslynn Nichole McCarty; a son, Richard Allen ("R.J.") McCarty, II; two brothers, Ricky Bennett, of Marlinton, and Daniel Bennett, of Delray.
A brother, Kevin Lynn McCarty, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at VanReenen Funeral Home Saturday afternoon by the Rev. Julian Rittenhouse, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Frederick Nolan Weiford
Frederick Nolan Weiford, age 80, of Buckeye, died at Buckeye on Friday, February 4, 2005.
He was a Master Barber with a shop at Buckeye, and he was a Presbyterian. He served in the Navy in the Korean Conflict.
A native of Buckeye, he was born February 24, 1924, the son of the late Detimis Notley "DN" Weiford and Mary Alice Kellison Weiford.
Also preceding him in death were his wife, Betty Jane Rock Weiford, three sisters, Beulah Beard, Vesta Holly, and Georgia Carpenter, two brothers, Bill Weiford and Stuart Weiford, and a granddaughter, Shelley Jean Wood.
Mr. Weiford is survived by two daughters, Janie Weiford, of Gordonsville, Virginia, and Lanora Adams, of Tallahassee, Florida; two step-daughters, Blenda Spillman, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Glenda Jones, of Wilmington, North Carolina; a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
His body was cremated and his ashes buried in the Kee Cemetery.
Bertha M. Davis, age 82, of Ravenna, Ohio, formerly of Frank, died Friday, February 4, 2005, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Davis was born October 5, 1922, at Beamis, the daughter of the late Omer H. and Flossie M. Clayton Davis.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Delton, and Omer Davis.
Surviving are two daughters, Violet Nelson, of Ravenna, Ohio, and Ann Doyle, of Staunton, Virginia; a son, James E. Eary, of Rootstown, Ohio; two sisters, Catherine Morris, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania , and Virginia Townsend, of Frank; a brother, Fred Davis, of Spokane, Washington ; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home at Arbovale by the Rev. Gary Rey-nolds, with burial in the Arbovale Cemetery.
Teddie Lee Kelley
Teddie Lee (Ted) Kelley, age 64, of San Antonio, Texes, died suddenly November 30, 2004, of heart related problems at Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.
Ted moved from Cleveland, Ohio, to San Antonio in 1978. He was employed by Ohio Molding.
He was born February 29, 1940, to Eugene and Anna Clark Kelley at Wesley Chapel, near Green Bank.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Donna Taylor Smith, on December 5, 2002, an infant daughter, Theresa Lynn, and three brothers, Bernell Kelley, James Kelley, and Arlie Kelley.
Surviving him are a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Hudak, of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren; four brothers, Loren Kelley, of Wesley Chapel, Walter Kelley, of Clover Lick, Robert Kelley, of Eastlake, Ohio, and Eddie (Newt) Kelley, of Kirtland, Ohio; and four sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Fertig, of Greenville, Pennsylvania , Mrs. Ruth Saunders, of Euclid, Ohio, Mrs. Martha Lou Smith, of Euclid, Ohio, and Mrs. Annette Elza, of Conroe, Texas .
Ted attended Baptist Church in San Antonio; he enjoyed woodworking and craft making.
He requested to be cremated and his ashes to be scattered in West Virginia.
Donald M. Snider
Donald M. Snider, age 89, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester, Indiana.
A native of Akron, Ohio, he was born December 18, 1915, the son of the late Howard and Ruth Stover Snider.
He was a retired Church of the Brethren Minister in Elgin, Illinois, and was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester, Indiana. Among his other services were Director of Youth Services in Elgin, Illinois, Brethren Service Director in Kassel, Germany 1951-1954, pastor at Dixon, Illinois, Director of Brethren Volunteer Service Training, New Windsor, Maryland 1961-1969, Pastor at Elgin and pastor at Clover Creek, Pennsylvania , and, after retirement, interim pastor at Franklin Grove, Mt. Morris, and Naperville, all in Illinois.
His first wife, Martha Keever Snider, whom he married on June 14, 1942, died on July 24, 1994.
He is survived by his second wife, Helen Blough Crill; a son, Phil (Jenny) Snider, of Logansport, Indiana; two daughters, Julie Bauserman, of Bartow, and Muriel Keeny, of Hanover, Pennsylvania ; a brother, Gerald Snider, of Campbell, California; two sisters, Betty Berlin, of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania , and Paula Ringer, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania ; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester, Indiana, on February 12 by Pastor Kurt Borgmann and Chaplain Joan Deeter. Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery at Waynesboro, Pennsylvania .

Jack Edward Griffin
Jack Edward Griffin, age 74, of Gates, North Carolina, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005.
Born in Marlinton, he was the son of the late Brison H. and Ruth Dunn Griffin. Also preceding him in death were his former wife, Helen Griffin, and two sisters.
He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Fire Department as a dispatcher and had been the owner and operator for 32 years of Little City TV in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving him are his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Griffin; a son, Jeffery Griffin, of Suffolk, Virginia; three daughters, Linda Mason, of Gates, Virginia, Emily Martin, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Anne Marie Semple, of Franklin, Virginia; two brothers, Marvin Griffin, of Norfolk, and John Griffin, of Staunton, Virginia; two sisters, Elizabeth Amos and Mary Mathison, both of Portsmouth, Virginia; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral service was held Friday, February 4, in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk.

Ralph A. Cronin
Ralph A. Cronin, age 91, of DuPont City, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, in Charleston Memorial Division CAMC after a short illness.
Mr. Cronin was a retired chemical operator for E.I. DuPont Chemical Company, Belle. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a native of Ritchie County; he had lived in the Belle area the past 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Pauline Caldwell Cronin, infant son, William Ralph Cronin, brother, Brady E. Cronin, and a sister, Vivian Fleming.
Surviving him are his son, David W. Cronin, of DuPont City; daughter, Stella Callison, of Hillsboro; brothers, Clifford Cronin and Wayne Cronin, both of St. Marys, and Keith Cronin, of Harrisville; sisters, Hilda Cronin and Marnella Nichols, both of St. Marys, and Nadine Hatfield, of Smithville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at Fidler & Frame Funeral Home, Belle, with the Rev. Lucy Youngblood officiating. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery, Charleston.
Nellie K. Balister
Nellie Keyte Balister, 97, of Berkshire, England, died January 28, 2005. She had been able to live in her own home with no assisted living until her death.
She was born on June 11, 1908, and lived most of her life in Hertfordshire, attending Watford Girls' Grammar School.
She married Frederick Balister after working for the Civil Service for many years. He preceded her in death in 1965 after a career as a bank manager.
Mrs. Balister visited Pocahontas County when her son Michael was an engineer with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. She enjoyed her grandchildren, Philip, Nicolette, and Michelle, liked to have her hair done at Betty Matheny's shop, and one occasion helped pick elderberries which made a delicious ice cream topping. She also came to the Library Sewing Circle. Her beautiful, flaky pastry mince pies and sausage rolls - a treat at family Christmas gatherings - also appeared at Green Bank School PTA parties, made by daughter-in-law Rosemary.
Mrs. Balister is survived by two sons and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, living in England and the United States.
M. T. Moss
M. T. Moss, 91, of Fairlea, died Monday following a short illness. Service will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shuck Memorial Baptist Church.
Lorraine Shaver
Lorraine Shaver, age 84, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Pocahontas Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church.
Born at Mingo on December 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Jonas and Delsie Arbogast Crickard.
Her husband, Henry Shaver, is deceased. Others preceding her in death were two sons, Leon Crickard and John Shaver, a sister, Pearle White , and four brothers, Arden Arbogast, Preston Arbogast, Loren Arbogast, and Tommy Arbogast.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Wood, of Indiana, Dorothy Bennett, of Slaty Fork, and Karen Shearer, of Marlinton; two sisters, Merle Hall, of Georgia, and Clara Rexrode, of Fairmont; and a brother, Glen Arbogast, of Florida; and six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday at the Slaty Fork United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Mann. Burial was in the Gibson Cemetery.
