Phyllis J. Carr, age 68, of Richwood, died Saturday, December 1, 2007, at her home.
Phyllis was a member of Little Laurel Baptist Church in Richwood.
Surviving are three sons, Terry Alan Carr and wife, Connie, of Huntersville, Christopher Carlisle Carr and wife, Karin, of Suisun City, California, and Monte Ray Carr, and wife, Tara, of Savannah, New York; a sister, Erin Dean Myers and husband, Eddie, of Craigsvillle; a brother, James Messenger and wife, June, of Richwood; and eleven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Friday, December 7, at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home in Richwood, with burial at Mountain View Memorial Park in Richwood.
Katherine "Kay" Wood
Katherine "Kay" Elaine Wood, age 70, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008, in a nursing home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The daughter of the Rev. Donald Edward and Jane Dorothy Oswald Wood, she lived in Marlinton while her father was minister of the Marlinton Presbyterian Church 1968-1973.
Service and burial were at the Veterans Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia, on Friday.
Surviving her are a brother, John Wood, in Standardsville, Virginia, and two sisters, Carol W. Neivich, of Homestead, Florida, and Betty Shaw, of Rutherdfordton, North Carolina.
Aileen Atkinson
Click to View Aileen Lou Schultz Atkinson, 61, of Dunbar, formerly of South Charleston, departed from us on Monday, June 27, 2011, to go home to be with the Lord at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long illness that she fought so hard to overcome. God saw that you were tired and decided to take you home.
Aileen was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin and grammy. She was a wonderful, strong person and this is how she would want to be remembered by all.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Russell Schultz; her mother, Junie Irene Clark Schultz, who was also a lifelong resident of Kanawha County; and her dearly missed husband, Rickey Warren Atkinson of South Charleston; along with her grandparents and the many others who went before her and who she is reunited with again.
Aileen is survived by her children, Karen Atkinson Sands of Charleston and Katie Atkinson, also of Charleston; her grandchildren, Wyatt, Alyssa, Savannah, Emily, Sara and Matt, who are also of Charleston, and Hannah of Boone County; and her sisters, Carol Barger of Titusville, Fla., Gloria Johnson of Alabama, Elise Garrett of St. Albans, Judy Ball of Mineral Wells and Marlene Lacy of New Baltimore, Mich. Aileen is the twin of Marlene Lacy. She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many cousins.
All of us have a special place in our hearts for her. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a teardrop. She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by many of whose hearts she touched. There are special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors who took care of her in her time of need with her battle.
Her cremains will be laid to rest in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, near her beloved husband.
Click to View Warren P. Edwards III, 74, of South Dennis, Mass., formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday June 25, 2011.
Dr. Edwards was born May 19, 1937, and was a son of the late Warren P. Edwards Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Roll in Charleston.
He graduated from Charleston High School in 1955, served two years in the United States Army, earned his A.B. degree in psychology from West Virginia University in 1961 and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Ohio University in 1968. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at WVU. Dr. Edwards worked with veterans during most of his career and received many awards for his treatment of soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder.
He married the late Laura Boyers in Fairmont on June 16, 1962. They later divorced.
Finding his partner in life, he married Denise Murray on September 10, 1994, in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Cape Cod, Mass., in June 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Denise MurrayEdwards; children, Jason Edwards and family, Lisa Dehm and her son, Sam, and Jennifer McFarland and her husband, Allen; as well as several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Warren gave his family the gift of music. Whenever his children came to visit, he would ask them to bring their instruments and a family music session would quickly ensue. He enjoyed studying the genealogy of his family and used the information to bring his family closer together.
Among the many life lessons he taught to his children, was the ability to live without fear of the unknown. The week he finished radiation treatments, he demonstrated this again by his decision to fulfill a lifelong dream by visiting Rome and Pompeii just weeks before his death.
A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, followed by graveside services in Mountain View Cemetery, Charleston, with military rites.
Edward Lippitt
Click to View Edward "Ted" Gardner Lippitt, 86, of Kanawha City passed away on July 5, 2011, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
Ted was a lifelong resident of Charleston and past president of Dunbar Metal & Supply Company and Rock Branch Mechanical.
He served in the ArmyAir Force during World War II as a Pilot B-17 in the European Theatre.
Ted was a graduate of Charleston High School and George Washington University in D.C., where he received a degree in mechanical engineering.
He was an avid golfer, loved classical music, loved to travel, loved the color green and had a great sense of humor.
Ted was an Eagle Scout and served as a Scout Leader for several years.
He enjoyed being with his family, who fondly referred to him as "Bee Bop."
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Becky Lippitt. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 4 of this year.
He is also survived by his children, Pam (John) Cook of Teays Valley, Christy O'Dell of Teays Valley, Dr. Jeff Lippitt of Cross Lanes and Dr. Steve (Joellen) Lippitt of Akron, Ohio; brother, Ray Lippitt of North Carolina; grandchildren, Kim, Tiffany and Mandy Cook, Sam, Annie and Matt O'Dell and Corey and Scott Lippitt; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Amy Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to service at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Wyld

Born February 12, 1915, in Oak Park, Ill, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Treen Masslich. She spent the first 90 years of her life in the Chicago land area, primarily River Forest, Evanston and Skokie, Ill. In 2005, she moved to Charleston Gardens in Charleston to be near her daughter.
She attended Oberlin College and received her medical technologist training at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Chicago. She worked at Evanston and St. Francis Hospitals in Evanston, Ill. She was a Presbyterian.
She loved traveling, gardening, quilting, needlework, writing, genealogy, photography and cats.
She was a member of the North Suburban Genealogical Society and their smaller Writers Group II. She was twice president of the North Suburban Embroiderers Guild and helped start a small group of needle workers, the Morning Glories. She was a member of Mensa.
For many years she took it upon herself to write a newsletter, The Happy Household, which she mailed to a couple of dozen family members and friends several times a year.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Merle Wyld; son, Philip Wyld; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Wyld; sons-in-law, Lee Egnor and Calvin Saul; great-grandson, Brandon Klaw; brothers, Beverly, Robert and Philip Masslich; and sister, Eleanor Schohl.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Saul of Charleston; daughter-in-law, Marlene Wyld of Oswego, Ill.; grandchildren, Liz (Mike) Klaw of Antioch, Ill, Deborah Pierce of Howell, Mich., Michael (Mendy) Egnor of Nitro and John (Melissa) Egnor of Big Bear Lake, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Justin and Meagan Klaw of Antioch, Ill., Mary Ellen and Lisa Pierce of Howell, Mich., Brooke and Megan Egnor of Hamlin, Josh Myers of Nitro, and Emilia Egnor of Big Bear Lake, Calif.
