Mary Elizabeth Clay, 94, of Scott Depot, formerly of Campbells Creek, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, at her residence following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Clay, son, Bobby Clay, and a grandson, Stevens Skiles.
She was a member of the Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving: daughter, Ruby Ellen Skiles and husband, Archie, with whom she resided; grandchildren, Beverly Crede, Lora Duncan and Bobby Clay Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kristen Crede and Allison Duncan; two great-nieces and a great-nephew, Francis Bowlen, Marjorie Sue Horrocks and Johnny Bowlen, of Beckley; lots of other nieces and nephews.
Service was held Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home Chapel, Malden, with the Rev. Charles Williams and the Rev. Russell Mills officiating. Burial was in Youngers Hollow Cemetery, Campbells Creek.

Justine E. Eby
Justine E. Eby, 92, of Hurricane, formerly of Parkersburg, died January 18, 2004, at Hurricane.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Jesse and Lacy Morgan McGeary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Eby, and a sister, Ruth McGeary.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Parkersburg, and the Order of Jerusalem. She had been employed with the West Virginia Department of Employment Security in Charleston and had been a private kindergarten teacher and private tutor. She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and Pastoral Care at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Surviving: son, Barry Eby of Scott Depot; daughter, Dianne Ryan of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; sisters, Patricia Goldsmith and Louise Miller, both of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Deborah Kloos, Donna Elchesen, Diane Simon, Denise Tourlakis, Dolly Loomis, Donald Ryan and Brian Eby; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service was held Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack D. Neilson officiating. Graveside service was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with Rev. Delbert Hawley officiating. Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Charleston, a daughter of Melvin Ray Bibbee and Reba Kessell Bibbee, both of Pliny.
She was employed with Mitchell Gold in Taylorsville and Flick Video in Taylorsville.
Surviving: her finance, Otis Tilley; son, Joshua Wears of Hiddenite; stepson, Donnie Tilley of Taylorsville; daughter, Cortney Wears of Hiddenite; stepdaughter, Angela Livingston of Taylorsville; brother, Jerry Wears of Pliny; sisters, Deanna Bibbee and Debbie Shabdue and husband, Mark, all of Pliny; one grandchild, Brayden Wears of Hiddenite; stepgrandchildren, Katie, Emily and Jay Livingston, all of Taylorsville.
Graveside service was held Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty, with Pastor William Lane Jr. officiating.
Tamara F. Workman
Tamera F. Workman, 42, of Banroft died January 19, 2004.
There was no service or visitation. Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, was in charge of arrangements.
Dallas H. Burgess
Dallas H. Burgess, 79, of Eleanor died January 21, 2004, after a short illness.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, a Pearl Harbor survivor. After Pearl Harbor, he fought in five major battles in the Pacific and was awarded six Bronze Stars for his accomplishments. He spent four years from 1941-45 in the Pacific with no return to the States. He spent three years of his duty in a war zone. He was in the 89th Field Artillery. He was retired from Raleigh Mines Supply, Beckely.
Surviving: wife, Phyllis; children, Linda Hawkins of Red House, Dallas G. Burgess of Hamilton, Ohio, and Evelyn Kallmerten of Nitro; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Homer Fink officiating. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park, Ruth, with military rites provided by the Bennie Padilla Post 4768, Alum Creek.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Society.
Gertrude Watson
Gertrude Emery Watson, 92, of Red House died January 23, 2004, in Teays Valley Center.
She was born in Toronto, Ohio and lived in West Virginia most her adult life. She was a member of Hometown Senior Citizens and Fosterville Methodist Church, Toronto.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard L. Watson, son, Herbert “Mac” Watson, and parents, Charles George and Artiemesia Virginia Emery.
Surviving: children, Maynard “Jim” Watson of Belington, Lorraine Magaw of Nitro, and Myrna Faley of Fraziers Bottom; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, Ohio. Burial was in Toronto Union Cemetery. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of local arrangements.

Ivan Cobb, 94, of Hometown died January 24, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital.
He was a 40-year resident of Putnam County, retired from Monk Brothers Construction with 20 years of service, and attended Lett Creek Community Church.

Janet “Sue” Ryan
Janet “Sue" Egnor Ryan, 66, of Scott Depot, formerly of Rand and Lincoln County, died January 24, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, following a short illness.
She was born in Alkol and graduated from Duval High School at age 16. Immediately after graduation, she went to work at Columbia Gas Transmission, where she worked for more than 40 years. She was a Baptist and as a child attended Sycamore Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Egnor, mother and stepfather, Florence and Ruben Dotson, brothers, Dennis Egnor and Roy Egnor Jr., and son, Ronald Allen Ryan.
Surviving: husband, Robert D. Ryan Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tamie Ryan, and the light of her life, grandson Alex Ryan, all of Scott Depot; sisters, Joy and husband, Al Simantel of Downers Grove, Illinois, Jan and husband, Doug Oshel of Westmont, Illinois; brothers, Terry and wife, Karen of Nashville, Tennessee, and Rexel Egnor of Morrisvale; stepbrothers, Shannon and wife, Betty Dotson of Julian, Boyce “Duke” and wife, Diane Dotson of Huntington, Gary “Dee” and wife, Gloria of Huntington; stepsister, Sue and husband, Truman Hudson of Hernshaw; many nieces and nephews; tons of wonderful friends and neighbors.
