Mary Etta Johns Hull, 75, of Eleanor died Monday, January 5, 2004, at home following a short illness.
Born June 27, 1928, she was the daughter of Luther and Linnie Hall Johns, who, along with a brother, Don Johns, preceded her in death.
She was a retired office manager for Kmart in Hamilton, Ohio, and a member of the Buffalo Church of God.
Surviving: her husband of 57 years, Thurman Hull; daughters, Shirley Garrison and her husband, Gary, of Red House, Nancy Jividen of Eleanor, Linda Plessinger and her husband, Rick, of Georgetown, Ohio; son, Luther Alfred “Bill” and his wife, Bekki Hull of Fairfield, Ohio; brothers, Bill Johns of buffalo, Joe Johns and his wife, Lisa, of henderson, bob Johns and his wife, Judy, of Buffalo, John Johns and his wife, Linda, of Teays Valley; sisters, Betty Combs and her husband, Art, of Peru, Indiana, Jean Martin of Buffalo, Priscilla McCoy and her husband, Don, of Marysville, Ohio, Kay Goddard and her husband, Paul, of Buffalo; foster brother, Donnie Campbellof St. Albans; special sisters-in-law, Edith Harris and her husband Bill, of Lutz, Florida and Geraldine Johns of Buffalo; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; a host of family and friends.
Service was held Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Wayne Burch officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Memorial Park.
Rondus Allen Jividen
Rondus Allen Jividen, 76, of Red House died Saturday, January 4, 2004, at home following a short illness.
Born December 16, 1927, the son of the late Dillard and Olive Belle Little Jividen, he was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
He was a retired union carpenter, having worked in the Charleston area for many years. He attended the Midway United Methodist Church and was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving: wife, Patricia Neff Jividen; daughters, Corine Hill and her husband, George of Elkton, Virginia, Colette R. Dolen and her husband, Mike of Suffolk, Virginia, Monica J. May and her husband, Michael of Severna Park, Maryland; brother, Rancel Jividen of Eleanor; sisters, Reba Hudson and Melva Vannoy, both of Red House; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Service was held Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Earl Cochran officiating. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery, Red House.
Thelma L. Grant
Thelma Louise Call Grant, 88, of Scott Depot died January 6, 2004, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Phylliss and Arnold Kinder of St. Albans.
She was a fine Christian woman and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Also surviving: daughters and their husbands, Janet and Jerry Rose of Hurricane, Betty and Donnie McNeil of Bancroft; sons and their wives, Darrell Wayne and Carol Grant of Beckley, William and Audrey Grant of Wise, Virginia, and John C. Grant of St. Albans; sisters, Nell Williams of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bernice Slough of Ridgeland, South Carolina, and Alma Byus of Winfield; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service was held Friday, January 9, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. John Taylor and Elder Frank Allen officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

James Devon Platt, 15, of Scott Depot, formerly of Boone County, died January 7, 2004.
Surviving: sister, Danielle; mother, Sherri Fitzpatrick; grandparents, Patricia and John Fitzpatrick; uncles, Dale and David Fitzpatrick; cousin, Marissa Lynn; special friend, Neadia George; another “granddaddy.”

Macil Irene Landers Hinzman of Poca died January 8, 2004, in St. Francis Hospital.
She was born January 14, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Nancy Ellen Ashby Parsons.
Surviving: son and his wife, George William Sr. and Sharon Kay Landers; grandsons, G.W. and Josh Landers; two great-granddaughters, Joshlinn and Genisis Landers; sister, Bessie Marie Randolph; brother, Lovell Theodore Parsons.
Service and burial was held Sunday, January 11, 2004, in Ortin Heights Cemetery, Nitro, with Pastor Paul Tate officiating. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Ford Holton
Robert Ford Holton, 87, of Eleanor, formerly of Monclo, Logan County, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital following a short illness.
Born December 3, 1916 in Spring Hill, he was the son of the late Elmer and Cora Schultz Holton.
He was a coal miner, a proud veteran of the National Guard, and a retired employee of the guard force at AVTEX Fibers in Nitro. She also was an avid coon hunter, a lover of lowers, old fashioned music, and trains. He was an outstanding athlete at Sharples High School and an amateur boxer in Logan County coal camp communities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Lane Holton; infant daughter, Judy May Holton; brothers, Lester, Collie and George Holton; sisters, Louise Howell and Laura Ann Leonard; and a grandson, Matthew Tucker.
Surviving: daughters, Gloria Burch and her husband, Wayne, of Buffalo, Jackie Weaver and her husband, Russell, of Louisville, Kentucky, Colleen Mooney and her husband, Edward, of Berkley Springs, Laura Tucker and her husband, Dan of Smithfield, North Carolina; grandchildren, Mark Burch of Cross Lanes, Mitchell Burch of Vancouver, Washington , Grant Weaver of Louisville, Kentucky, Samantha Harrison of Cross Lanes, Scott Weaver of Louisville, and Ben Tucker, a Navy recruiter in Charleston; eight great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Shelva Cowen, Beth Barnett and Dorothy Higginbotham; special friend, Thelma Kennedy of South Charleston.

Clodes Taft Harrison, 69, of Palm Bay, Florida, formerly of Buffalo, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at SunBridge of Putnam, following an extended illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Taft Harrison and Freda Bailey Harrison, and sister, Pauline King.
He was a retired swimming pool mechanic from Aire Lite Swimming Pool Co. with 37 years of service. He attended Buffalo High School and was a Protestant who attended the Church of Christ.
Surviving: his wife of 47 years, Levirdia Mae Bush Harrison; sister, Monta Faye Denny of Columbus, Ohio; brother, Roy O'Dell Harrison of Melbourne, Florida; eight nieces, nine nephews.

Ronald Gene Turley
Ronald Gene Turley, 65, of Poca died Friday, January 9, 2004, at home after a short illness.
He lived most of his life in Kanawha County. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School and a member of the Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barboursville. He was a member of the Nitro Noose Lodge.
He was retired from Republic Steel Co., Nitro, where he worked as a machine operator.

Calvin C. “Woozie” Suiter, 75, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away at his home Friday Jan. 9, 2004. Memorial services were held Monday at 7 p.m. at Beard Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Rick Glass. He was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Huntington, son of the late John and Golda Bayes Suiter. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Huntington and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in World War II.
