Anna Belle Cottrill, 55, of Hurricane died January 18, 2004.

Service was held Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton.

Justine E. Eby

Justine E. Eby, 92, of Hurricane, formerly of Parkersburg, died January 18, 2004, at Hurricane.

She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Jesse and Lacy Morgan McGeary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Eby, and a sister, Ruth McGeary.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Parkersburg, and the Order of Jerusalem. She had been employed with the West Virginia Department of Employment Security in Charleston and had been a private kindergarten teacher and private tutor. She was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and Pastoral Care at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Surviving: son, Barry Eby of Scott Depot; daughter, Dianne Ryan of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; sisters, Patricia Goldsmith and Louise Miller, both of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Deborah Kloos, Donna Elchesen, Diane Simon, Denise Tourlakis, Dolly Loomis, Donald Ryan and Brian Eby; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Service was held Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jack D. Neilson officiating. Graveside service was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with Rev. Delbert Hawley officiating. Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Adam Whittington

Joseph Adam Whittington, 30 days old, died January 18, 2004.

Surviving: parents, Jeff and Angie Whittington; brother, Jeffrey Keen Whittington Jr.; maternal grandparents, Mary Anna and Williams E. Love Jr.; maternal great-grandparents, Paul Spaulding, Majoria Spaulding and William E. Love Sr.; paternal grandparents, Judy and Paul Casto, James and Donna Whittington; great-grandparents, Frances Whittington and Kermit Keen.

Service was held Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with Pastors Darren Persinger and Jeff Pitchford.

Lorie Ann Wears

Lorie Ann Bibbee Wears, 39, of Hiddenite, North Carolina died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

She was born in Charleston, a daughter of Melvin Ray Bibbee and Reba Kessell Bibbee, both of Pliny.

She was employed with Mitchell Gold in Taylorsville and Flick Video in Taylorsville.

Surviving: her finance, Otis Tilley; son, Joshua Wears of Hiddenite; stepson, Donnie Tilley of Taylorsville; daughter, Cortney Wears of Hiddenite; stepdaughter, Angela Livingston of Taylorsville; brother, Jerry Wears of Pliny; sisters, Deanna Bibbee and Debbie Shabdue and husband, Mark, all of Pliny; one grandchild, Brayden Wears of Hiddenite; stepgrandchildren, Katie, Emily and Jay Livingston, all of Taylorsville.

Graveside service was held Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty, with Pastor William Lane Jr. officiating.

Tamara F. Workman

Tamera F. Workman, 42, of Banroft died January 19, 2004.

There was no service or visitation. Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, was in charge of arrangements.

Dallas H. Burgess

Dallas H. Burgess, 79, of Eleanor died January 21, 2004, after a short illness.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, a Pearl Harbor survivor. After Pearl Harbor, he fought in five major battles in the Pacific and was awarded six Bronze Stars for his accomplishments. He spent four years from 1941-45 in the Pacific with no return to the States. He spent three years of his duty in a war zone. He was in the 89th Field Artillery. He was retired from Raleigh Mines Supply, Beckely.

Surviving: wife, Phyllis; children, Linda Hawkins of Red House, Dallas G. Burgess of Hamilton, Ohio, and Evelyn Kallmerten of Nitro; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Homer Fink officiating. Burial was in Graceland Memorial Park, Ruth, with military rites provided by the Bennie Padilla Post 4768, Alum Creek.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Society.

Gertrude Watson

Gertrude Emery Watson, 92, of Red House died January 23, 2004, in Teays Valley Center.

She was born in Toronto, Ohio and lived in West Virginia most her adult life. She was a member of Hometown Senior Citizens and Fosterville Methodist Church, Toronto.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard L. Watson, son, Herbert “Mac” Watson, and parents, Charles George and Artiemesia Virginia Emery.

Surviving: children, Maynard “Jim” Watson of Belington, Lorraine Magaw of Nitro, and Myrna Faley of Fraziers Bottom; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Service was held Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Clarke Funeral Home, Toronto, Ohio. Burial was in Toronto Union Cemetery. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of local arrangements.

Ivan Cobb

Ivan Cobb, 94, of Hometown died January 24, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital.

He was a 40-year resident of Putnam County, retired from Monk Brothers Construction with 20 years of service, and attended Lett Creek Community Church.

Surviving: children, Arbutus Cochran of Allens Fork, Maxine Bordenet of Hometown, Patsy Hill of Bancroft, Phyllis Wickline of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Betty Jo Kulbe of Jacksonville, Florida, Shirley Cobb of Bowles Ridge, Andrew Cobb of Leon, Mayford Cobb of Liberty, the Rev. Ivan Lee Cobb Jr. of Leon, Haorld Cobb of B owles Ridge, and Ralph Cobb of Liberty.

Service was held Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with Pastor Larry Covert officiating. Burial was in Barnett Chapel Cemetery.

Janet “Sue” Ryan

Janet “Sue" Egnor Ryan, 66, of Scott Depot, formerly of Rand and Lincoln County, died January 24, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, following a short illness.

She was born in Alkol and graduated from Duval High School at age 16. Immediately after graduation, she went to work at Columbia Gas Transmission, where she worked for more than 40 years. She was a Baptist and as a child attended Sycamore Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Egnor, mother and stepfather, Florence and Ruben Dotson, brothers, Dennis Egnor and Roy Egnor Jr., and son, Ronald Allen Ryan.

Surviving: husband, Robert D. Ryan Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tamie Ryan, and the light of her life, grandson Alex Ryan, all of Scott Depot; sisters, Joy and husband, Al Simantel of Downers Grove, Illinois, Jan and husband, Doug Oshel of Westmont, Illinois; brothers, Terry and wife, Karen of Nashville, Tennessee, and Rexel Egnor of Morrisvale; stepbrothers, Shannon and wife, Betty Dotson of Julian, Boyce “Duke” and wife, Diane Dotson of Huntington, Gary “Dee” and wife, Gloria of Huntington; stepsister, Sue and husband, Truman Hudson of Hernshaw; many nieces and nephews; tons of wonderful friends and neighbors.

Service was held Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with her nephew, the Rev. Paul Meadows, officiating. Entombment was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Edward Bryant Roach Jr.

Edward Bryant Roach Jr., 63, of Huntington passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barboursville, by Dr. J.D. Harrah. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Mr. Roach was born April 21, 1940, son of Ethel Mae Morrison Roach of Huntington and the late Edward Bryant Roach Sr. He graduated from Barboursville High School and Marshall University, and was the retired owner of Homestead Furniture, Barboursville. In addition to his father, Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his son, Justin Roach. Survivors include his mother; children Jon Tyler and Eddie Roach, both of Huntington; a sister, Diana Blake of Huntington; brothers David Roach and his wife Peggy, and Tom Roach, all of Huntington; and nieces, Amy Short and Jennifer Roach. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund.

James “Jimmy” Johnson

James “Jimmy” Johnson, 79, of Ashland, KY, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004 in King's Daughters Medical Center, Ashland. Graveside services were conducted Friday, January 23, 2004 in Milton Cemetery, Milton with the Rev. Wendell Eskew officiating. military services were conducted by the American Legion Post 139, Milton. He was born November 5, 1924, in Milton, WV, a son of the late William and Nora Chandler Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bell Johnson, five sisters and one brother. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139, Milton. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Siers of Charleston and two sisters, Ima Jenkins of Milton and Jo Padon of South Charleston. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Jean Bias

Jean Bias, 73, of Lesage, W.Va., died January 18, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Greenbottom Missionary Baptist Church, Lesage, with the Rev. Paul Spence officiating. Burial in Greenbottom Memorial Park, Lesage. She was born March 18, 1930, in Welch, W.Va., a daughter of the late Joe and Annie Roberts Clark. She was a graduate of the Huntington Business College, retired from the Green Acres Regional Center and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Cody Clark; and two sisters, Phoebe Altizer and Virginia Owens. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Allen Bias; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Marie Bias of Erie, Mich., and William Joseph Bias of Athens, Ohio; and grandchildren, Cody Allen Bias and Keri Marie Bias. Beard Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Bessie L. Scott

Bessie L. Scott, 54, of Salt Rock, widow of Victor Scott, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Talbott Funeral Home, Belington, WV; burial in Fraternal Cemetery, Belington.

Martha Sue Proctor

Martha Sue Miller Proctor, 74, of Winfield died Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Cleveland Clinic, due to complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis.

She was a homemaker and was a very active member of Winfield Presbyterian Church for 40 years, having served as church treasurer for many years and a member and treasurer of Women of the Church. She was a 42-year resident of Winfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold Proctor. She was the daughter of the late Mallie T. and Nettie Ellen Miller.

Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Jack Stokes of Vienna; son, Michael L. Proctor of Winfield; granddaughter, Samantha K. Stokes of Winston Salem, North Carolina; grandson, Chad Proctor of Winfield; brother and sister-in-law, Mallie T. Jr. and June Miller of Madison.

Service was held Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at Winfield Presbyterian Church with Dr. Max V. Perrow officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Winfield Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 71, Winfield WV 25213.

Catherine S. Weiskircher

Catherine Shea Weiskircher, 94, of Scott Depot, formerly of Sunnybrook Drive, Hurricane, died January 11, 2004, at Regency Place, after a short illness.

She was born November 8, 1909. She was Past Worthy Matron, Order of Eastern Star, Hurricane Chapter 116, and a lifetime member of Boyd Memorial Christian Church, Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Grice Shea; husband, Bernard N. Weiskircher, brothers, Thomas J. Hines and William C. Burlingame, mother, Clarice H. Burlingame, and father, Thomas Hines.

Surviving: son, Jack G. Shea, and his wife, Dottie, of Alpharetta, Georgia; granddaughters, the Rev. Sandi Wilmesherr, and husband, the Rev. Ken Wilmesherr, of Atlanta, Georgia, Cathie Frechen of husband, Lee, of Lansing, Michigan, Beth Blanford and husband, Bob, of Atlanta, Charlotte Pickins and husband, Danny, of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Wendy and Jason Clyne of Atlanta, Mathew and Molly Wilmesherr of Sterling, Virginia, Andrew Wilmesherr of Atlanta, Erich and Michelle Frechen of Atlanta, Bryan Frechen of Lansing, John Blanford and Michael Blanford of Lansing, Catie, Ginny and Megan Pickens of Atlanta; great-great-grandchild, Dylan Cline; brothers, Robert A. Wilson of Charleston; Jack D. Burlingham and wife, Sara, of Ravenswood; numerous nephews and nieces.

Service was held Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Boyd Memorial Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Elsea officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Emory Ernie Hinkley

Emory Ernie Hinkley, 77, of Hurricane died January 12, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member os Pipefitters Local 625.

Surviving: his wife of 52 years, Mildred; son, Ernie Michael of hurricane; daughters, Beverly Dickerson of New York, Stephanie Stone and Susan Hinkley, both of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Teays Valley. Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
