Thelma C. Forth

Thelma C. Forth, 84, of Hurricane died February 1, 2004, at home with her family by her side.

She was a homemaker and member of Teays Valley Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her son, Doug Forth, parents, Melvin and Annie Bailey Christian, 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving: husband, Howard D. Forth; daughter, Connie Forth Bird of Hurricane; sister, Opal March of Miami, Florida; brothers, Oran Christian of St. Albans and Don Christian of South Charleston; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Service was held Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Dr. Ken Toler officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Glen A. Miller

Glen A. Miller, 47, of Hurricane died Saturday, January 31, 2004.

He was a Protestant and an inspector for the Department of Highways with 23 years of service. He was a 1974 graduate of Charleston High School and a member of the Nitro Moose Lodge.

Surviving: wife, Cynthia Austin Miller; father, Walter Eugene Miller of Onalaska, Texas ; mother, Joan Marie Adams of Pineville; sisters, Debra Lynn Wiley Payne of Cedar Park, Texas , Karen Sue Miller of Onalaska, and Linda Meadows of Charleston; nephew, Christopher Wiley of Cedar Park; nieces, Courtney Wiley of Cedar Park and Brittany Miller of Onalaska; uncle and aunt, Raymond Miller and Carol Miller of Hurricane; cousins, Lisa and Kaitlyn Miller; stepbrother, William Adams of Apex, North Carolina; stepsister, Belinda Hill of Madison.

Service was held Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, Nitro, with the Rev. Glen Kuhn officiating.

Violet Juanita Sayre

Violet Juanita Sayre, 71, of Hometown died February 4, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Sayre.

She was retired from Stone & Thomas Distribution Center, Rock Branch, and attended Hometown Church of God Mission.

Surviving: husband, Ray E. Sayre; son, Kevin B. Sayre of Hometown; sister, Judy Archer of Athens, Ohio; brothers, Dany Martin of Given and Edward Martin of Punta Gorda, Florida; grandchildren, Matthew Sayre of Buckhannon, Tara Nichole Sayre of St. Albans and Justin Blaine Sayre of Teays Valley.

Service was held Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastors Jim Boggess and Darren Persinger officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

Stanley Pennington

Stanley Pennington, 84, of Hurricane died February 6, 2004.

Surviving: wife, Garnette; son, Jeffrey of Hurricane.

There was no service. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

John P. Burgy Jr.

John P. Burgy Jr., 71, of Hurricane, formerly of South Charleston, died February 5, 2004, in CAMC General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born July 1, 1932 in South Charleston, the son of the late John and Francis Eulene Zimmerman Burgy.

He retired from FMC Corporation, South Charleston. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church, Hurricane.

Surviving: his wife of 42 years, Helen J.; sons, Eric Burgy and wife, Stephanie, of South Charleston, John W. and companion, Barbara Taylor; brother, Richard L. Burgy of South Charleston.

Service was held Monday, February 9, 2004, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with the Rev. Jerry White and the Rev. David Bowen officiating. Entombment was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Harry H. Glenn Jr.

Harry H. Glenn Jr., 65, of Hurricane, formerly of the Corsica-Brookville, Pennsylvania area, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at home.

He was the son of Harry H. Glenn Sr. and Anna Lindemuth Glenn. He was born September 6, 1938 at Corsica. He was a laborer and mechanic in the coal business and the former owner and operator of 3-J Coal Co., in Brookville. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Charleston and affiliated with the Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, and one grandson, Michael Lee Park.

Surviving: wife, Alice Ann Washington Glenn; daughters, Mary Ann Glenn, Debbie Glenn, JoAnn Glenn, Tammy Park, and Donna Neiswonger, all of Brookville; son, Tom Glenn of Hurricane; step-daughter, carletta Miles of Hurricane; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; former wife, Clara Strawcutter Molt of Brookville; brothers, Perry Glenn of Sigel PA and Jack Glenn of Corsica; sisters, Connie Ishman of Oliveburg PA, Bonnie Hughes of Corsica and Loretta Miliam of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Service was held Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Sigel.

Phoebe M. Workman

Phoebe Marie Workman, 80, of Poca died February 6, 2004, at her home.

She was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, where she was also involved with the ladies circle, and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Workman, her parents, Arthur and Mary Puckett Coyer, and her brother, Randolph Coyer.

Surviving: daughter, Renee Warner and her husband, Rolfe, of Poca; brother, Eugene Coyer of Niles, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

Service was held Monday, February 9, 2004, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans. Burial was in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Roland M. Plante

Roland M. Plante, 75, of Red House died February 6, 2004, in Teays Valley Center.

He was a Navy and Air Force veteran of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Miami Police Department, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Plante, brothers-in-law, Eugene and Arlen Cooley.

Surviving: sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Max Gibson of Poca, Marcie Smith of St. Albans, Delores and Joe Gessel of Tennessee, Kenneth and Jan Cooley of Chillicothe, Ohio, Ronnie and Sue Cooley of Circleville, Ohio, and Pat Cooley of Naples, Florida.

Memorial Mass was held Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Catholic Church of the Ascension. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Gregory A. College
Gregory Allen College, 47, of Hurricane died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He had live in Hurricane for nine and a half years and was formerly of St. Albans. He was an employee of E.I. DuPont with 26 years of service, where he was a member of the fire squad and the HAZMAT team. He was a member of the NRA and a member of New Life Church, Huntington.
Surviving: wife, Sandy Eskew College; children, Greg College Jr. and David College, both of Ohio, Philip College, Alex College and Dannielle College, all at home; mother, Marcy College of St. Albans; father and stepmother, Joe and Helen College of Dunbar; sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Michael Mullins of St. Albans, Jodie and John Hilton of Orlando, Florida; one niece and three nephews.
Service was held Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Darrell Huffman officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

John N. Mills
John N. Mills, 51, of Scott Depot died January 26, 2004, at home.
He owned and operated his own computer consulting company, Custom Computers, and was retired from C&P Telephone Co. with 20 years of service. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers and was an amateur radio operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.
Surviving: wife, Betty L. Mills; sons, Bryan Neil Mills and his wife, Sena of Pittsburgh and Christopher Eric Mills, a student at Bethany College; brother, Thomas Rutherford of North Matewan; four special companions, Cory, Buster, Rocky and Casper.
Service was held Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Dr. Rodney L. Taylor and the Rev. Tony Etris officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.
