Clifford A. Manley
Clifford A. Manley, 70, of Teays Valley died January 27, 2004, in CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born July 29, 1933 in Phillippi, a son of the late Hobart and Evelyn Chapman Manley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Manley, and one brother, Owen Manley.
He was a retired staff manager employed with National Life and Accident Co. for more than 24 years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the VFW and the NRA.
Surviving: his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Manley; sons, Ed Manley of Dallas WV and Phillip Manley of West Finley, Pennsylvania ; daughter, Mona Cantley of South Charleston; grandchildren, Michelle Parsons of Charleston, Matthew and Michael Manley, both of Oak Hill; sisters, Carolyn and husband, Ted Brisendine, Rita and husband, Paul Franklin, all of Charleston.
Service was held Friday, January 30, 2004, at Wilson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Jamie Wright officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Memorial donations may be made to American diabetes. Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton OH 44720.

Hester Hill
Hester Shaffer Hill, 87, of Eleanor, formerly of Elkview, died January 27, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, G.A. and Lucy Salisbury Shaffer, brothers, the Rev. Chester and David Shaffer, and sisters, Helen Edens and Dorothy Wooten.
She was retired from The Diamond Department Store and was a member of Cross Creek Community Church.
Surviving: daughter, Deloris Mallett of Red House; grandchildren, Lesia Whittington of Buffalo and LaDonna Higginbotham of Red House; great-grandchildren, Alan, Kristina and Jacob Higginbotham.
Service was held Friday, January 30, 2004, at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview, with the Rev. Harold Landers officiating. Burial was in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Benjamin Roy Coleman Sr.
Benjamin Roy Coleman Sr., 84, of Milton, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2004, in Heritage Center Genesis Eldercare, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 7, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Benjamin R. Coleman III and Minister Dearl Hutchison officiating. Burial in Wallace-Coleman Cemetery, Milton. Benjamin was born December 18, 1919, a son of the late Arthur R. and Sylvia A. Wallace Coleman. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife Rosalie George Coleman; two sisters and brother-in-law, Zelma and Calvin Edmonds and Ann Ellen Foster; one brother, William Coleman. Benjamin retired from International Nickel as a machinist. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Benjamin R. Coleman Jr. and his wife Nancy of Chesapeake, Ohio, Bruce A. Coleman and his wife Linda of Milton and Brian M. and his wife Debrah of Naples, Fla.; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Beuford Coleman and his wife Ella May of Lesage, Arthur Coleman Jr. and his wife Florence of Milton and Carol Coleman of Milton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ethel Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif. and Orma Venatter and her husband Robert of Hurricane. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Beth Rowe and her husband Tim, Benjamin R. Coleman III and his wife Ramona, Brooke Coleman, Bruce Coleman Jr., Shawn Coleman and his wife Jessica, Tami Henson; 12 great grandchildren and a very special niece, Carol Cobb and her husband Brent and their son Jerod.

Daphne Helene Connolly Lambert
Daphne Helene Connolly Lambert, 37, of Branchland, WV, went to be with the Lord February 3, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 7, 2004, at the Bethlehem United Baptist Church, of which she was a member, by Rev. Vernon Perry. Burial in Parsons Cemetery. She was born January 1, 1967, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of John Connolly of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Joan Price of England. She is also survived by her husband, Mark Anthony Lambert; two sons, Donald Charles Cornwell and Justin Anthony Lambert; one daughter, Jessica Helene Lambert; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Channa Connolly; and a host of family and friends. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Ray Mullins
Mr. Christopher Ray Mullins, 27, of Milton passed away Saturday, January 31, 2004. Services were conducted on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Pea Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Creasy and Rev. Mark Boyd officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born December 7, 1976, in Huntington, the son of Raymond Mullins of Huntington and Debra Shea and stepfather Jacque Shea of Salt Rock. He was a 1996 graduate of Cabell-Midland High School and was employed as a laborer. He is survived by his wife, Erica Marie Cordle Mullins and two children, Austin Cordle and Jada Mullins, both at home, and his parents. He was preceded in death by his sister, Tiffany Mullins, in December 2003. Henson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Lonnie Vinson Stowasser
Lonnie Vinson Stowasser, 88, of Milton, passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Jackie Clark officiating. Burial in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Milton. Lonnie was born January 10, 1916, a son of the late Charles and Arcie Edmunds Stowasser. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Stowasser; three sons, Carl Stowasser, Vinson Stowasser and Dorlen Stowasser; one daughter, Delana Stowasser; one grandson, Gregory Allen Stowasser. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Teddy and Karen Stowasser and Derry and Jerry Stowasser; one daughter, Reba Stowasser; five grandchildren, Chuck Stowasser, Edward Stowasser and his wife Brittany, Kevin Stowasser, Melissa Ellis and her husband Dave, and Kristie DeGrandpre and her husband Mark; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Philby Childers
Philby Childers, 87, of Salt Rock, formerly of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in St Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Ray Adkins. Burial in Baylous Cemetery. He was born on Oct. 1, 1916, in Cabell County, a son of the late Edwin and Mary Pratt Childers. He was retired from Lexington Ontario School of Mansfield, Ohio. He was a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp Thornwood, W.Va. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora 0 Vandyne Childers; two sisters, Gweneth Morrison and Verda Hatfield; three brothers, Carvel Childers, William Shem Childers and Sherry Childers. He is survived by one brother, Wilton Childers of Salt Rock and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and Pam Rowley of Morris Memorial Nursing Home for their kindness and care during Philby’s illness. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Nona Johnson Ezzo
Nona Johnson Ezzo, 88, of St. Cloud Fla., passed away Feb 4, 2004. Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, by the Rev. Craig Coster, with eulogy by Joe Vasquez. She was born July 27, 1915, in Lincoln County, W.Va., daughter of the late Albert and Annie Midkiff Johnson She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Al Vazquez; two sisters, Dorothy Richardson of Stuart, Fla., and Ola Gooch of Ona, W.Va., and grandson, Joseph Alfred Vasquez. There was no visitation. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ella E. Scarberry Underwood
Ella E. Scarberry Underwood, 72, of Lesage went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 5, 2004, in St Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral service were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Doug Spurlock and Pastor Paul Spence officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Underwood, Jr., Scott Scarberry, Dwayne Scarberry, Jonathan Fulks, Alva Pinkerman and Mark Scarberry. She was born November 25, 1931, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Thomas and Eva Henry Scarberry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rex Underwood and two brothers, Rex Scarberry and Billy Scarberry. She is survived by five sisters, Patricia Scarberry, Eloise Scarberry, Rosa Scarberry and Ruby Hannah, all of Lesage, and Deloris Roten of Huntington; one brother, James Scarberry of Ona; many nieces, nephews and loved ones and a special friend, Evelyn Mount. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Gregory A. College

Gregory Allen College, 47, of Hurricane died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He had live in Hurricane for nine and a half years and was formerly of St. Albans. He was an employee of E.I. DuPont with 26 years of service, where he was a member of the fire squad and the HAZMAT team. He was a member of the NRA and a member of New Life Church, Huntington.

Surviving: wife, Sandy Eskew College; children, Greg College Jr. and David College, both of Ohio, Philip College, Alex College and Dannielle College, all at home; mother, Marcy College of St. Albans; father and stepmother, Joe and Helen College of Dunbar; sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Michael Mullins of St. Albans, Jodie and John Hilton of Orlando, Florida; one niece and three nephews.

Service was held Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with Pastor Darrell Huffman officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

John N. Mills

John N. Mills, 51, of Scott Depot died January 26, 2004, at home.

He owned and operated his own computer consulting company, Custom Computers, and was retired from C&P Telephone Co. with 20 years of service. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers and was an amateur radio operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

Surviving: wife, Betty L. Mills; sons, Bryan Neil Mills and his wife, Sena of Pittsburgh and Christopher Eric Mills, a student at Bethany College; brother, Thomas Rutherford of North Matewan; four special companions, Cory, Buster, Rocky and Casper.

Service was held Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Dr. Rodney L. Taylor and the Rev. Tony Etris officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

Arlyna Rae Moore

Arlyna Rae Moore, 60, of Huntington died Friday, January 30, 2004 in Heritage Center. Survivors include her father, A. Ray Simms of Huntington; her husband, Thomas A. Moore of Barboursville; two daughters, Tammy Cheke of Huntington and Cyndee Moore of Barboursville; and a son, Tom Moore of Barboursville. Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 2, 2004 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington; burial in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Hamlin, W.Va.

Sarah Rebecca “Sis” Thacker

Sarah Rebecca “Sis” Thacker, 89, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born May 15, 1914, in Barboursville, W.Va., a daughter of the late John Thomas Warren and Salona Mae Lewis Warren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #89, Guyandotte, and a member of Christ Temple Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Thacker; one daughter, Aloha Thacker; three sisters, Lillian Warren, Olive Ray and Violet Peters; and five brothers, Lyle, Jess, Douglas, Muriel “Buster” and George Warren. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jerry Rowsey of Huntington; two grandchildren, Terry and Tammy Rowsey; and one great-granddaughter, Charity Joelle Leep.

Rande Ellen Blackwood

Rande Ellen Blackwood, 52, of Milton, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 2, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Mark Finley officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born October 29, 1951, in Oak Hill, W.Va., a daughter of Lano I. Johnson Blackwood and the late Joel N. Blackwood. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jo Karen Blackwood and her maternal grandparents, Dewey and Thelma Johnson. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio, where she played the organ for six years. She also worked as a Registered Nurse at Ohio State Hospital. She attended the University of Michigan, graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University. She is survived by her mother, Lano I. Johnson Blackwood of Milton and a cousin, Sherryll Lynn Johnson of Arkansas.

George Edward Justice

George Edward Justice, 87, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with his Lord Thursday, January 29, 2004, at home. Private burial Monday, February 2, 2004 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born October 4, 1916, in Logan, W.Va., son of the late Everett A. and Molly Victoria Frye Justice of Logan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Ross in 1997; two brothers, Haskell and Paul; two sisters, Margaret Dyer and Nell Peck. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; a daughter, Phyllis; a granddaughter, Deb Alley; two brothers, John of Kannapolis, N.C., and Doyle of Huntington; and special beagle friends, Maggie and Molly. He graduated from Logan High School in 1939. He was a World War II veteran, serving on the U.S. Navy ship USS Bismarck Sea. He retired as a purchasing agent for Logan Supply Co. in 1980. Eddie was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, a member of the Logan County Sportsman's club, winning numerous Trap Shoots, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Logan. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Wray Bailey

Michael Wray Bailey, 50, of Barboursville died Friday, January 23, 2004 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Memorial services were conducted at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Wray Bailey of Napoleon, Ohio, and Michael Allen Bailey of Belmore, Ohio; two daughters, Sarah Bailey of Milton and Karen Sue Bailey of Napoleon; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Robin Reichstetter of Corbin, Ky.; one brother, Steven Bailey of San Diego.

Wilma Jean Barbour Brinager

Wilma Jean Barbour Brinager, 82, of Milton, W.Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 25, 2004, at the Mariner Health Care Facility in Huntington. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Ferrell Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Danny Evans. Burial in the May's Cemetery at Beech Fork, W.Va. She was born June 8, 1921, in Huntington, W.Va., the daughter of the late Baxter Sidney Barbour and Thelma Cline. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Henry Brinager on August 27, 2003. She had been employed with Essic Wire Corp, in Lancaster, Ohio, for many years, and was a member of Farmdale Church of Christ, Barboursville. Survivors include two daughters, Konda J. Erickson (Marvin F.) of Tucson, Ariz., and Betty L. Martin of Huntington; one sister, Mary Ann Yoho of Ona, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Mark and James Erickson of Tucson, Ariz., Robert Erickson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robin, Joseph, Michael and David Martin, all of Huntington; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A host of other loving family and friends also survive.

Dale E. Rollyson

Dale E. Rollyson, 83, of Lesage, W.Va. passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted at Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Carroll Jones and Pastor Jamie Jefferson officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born June 12, 1920, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late Roscoe B. and Bessie Lee Clark Rollyson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Averil Rollyson, and a brother, Harold Rollyson. He was a retired salesman for C.M. Love Hardware with 32 years of service; a graduate of Milton High School; a member of Oak Hill UBI Church; and a Sunday School teacher for 40 years at Z-Warner United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Rollyson; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall “Randy” and Annette Rollyson of Weddington, N.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Don Brady of Braselton, Ga., Natalie and Nick Morris of Newnan, Ga., and Anita Lanke of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Edsel Rollyson of Barboursville, W.Va.; two sisters, Eldora Harshbarger of Barboursville and Betty Blevins of Proctorville, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren, Matthew Rollyson, Emilie Brady, Katie Brady, Kimberlie Brady, Robbie Brady, Jason Morris, Eric Morris, Sarah Morris, Andy Lanke and Danny Lanke.
