Eudoris Dickey Williams
Eudoris Dickey Williams, 84, aka “Mama Doris” and “Doe-Doe,” a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, in St. Mary’s Medical Center following a long and courageous battle. She was born March 14, 1920, to the late Ernest and Emma Dickey of Huntington. She was a devoted and active member of Eastwood Baptist Church where she will be greatly missed by her many kind and loving friends. She retired from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1987 and was an active member of Barboursville Senior Citizens. She will forever be remembered as a beautiful woman both inside and out, a brilliant artist, a friend, wonderful, devoted mother and grandmother and a loyal and caring friend. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Meyer “Mike” L. Williams; two children and their spouses, Marylee Robyn and David Rooper and William D. and Carolyn Qualls; two stepchildren and their spouses, Rick and Marsha Wimbish and Danny and Linda Williams; four grandchildren, Barbara Anne Qualls, Curt Williams Qualls, Steven Ryan Lemaster and Gary Todd Blankenship; five step-grandchildren, Sherry Williams, Michael Williams, Stephen Wimbish, Jason Rooper and Scott Rooper; five step-great-grandchildren; and many lvoing and cherished friends and family. The void she will leave in the lives of those who loved her can never be filled. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Henson Mortuary with Pastor Hugh Summers officiating; burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. She also leaves behind her most beloved “baby dog,” Joy, who is missing her. She loved Joy so dearly. Also, a special thanks to a dear friend, Koral Midkiff, for being there; her kindness is immeasurable.
A very special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Dr. Kirti Jain’s office and St. Mary’s Medical Center for their kind and gentle care during her illness.

Sheila Faye McCormick
Sheila Faye McCormick, 58, of Barboursville, loving wife, mother, and mama, went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 7, 2004. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, Fellowship Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Warren. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born June 26,1945, in Cabell County, a daughter of Richard Hatton of Wayne and the late Bette Newman Hatton. She is survived by her husband, Damer “Bud’ McCormick; five daughters, Cheryl Bellomy, Kelle Angle, Kim Sargent and Rosie Hart, all of Huntington, and Renee Lane of Pennsylvania ; one son, Michael McCormick of Barboursville; two sisters, Jeanie Williamson of Huntington and Brenda Ruley of Lesage; two brothers, Terry Hatton of Huntington and Roger Cornwell; 13 grandchildren Cody, Collin, Callie, Kaylynn, Kaleb, Brandon Kelle, Christopher Timothy, Sienna, Taylor, Justin and Jessica. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the family.

Betty Lou McElroy
Betty Lou McElroy, 81, of Barboursville, W.Va., died Monday June 7, 2004 in Chateau Grove Senior Living. Funeral services were held Thursday June 10, 2004, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by Pastor Jerry Chapman. Entombment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. Betty was born June 29, 1922, in Huntington, W.V., a daughter of the late G. Howard and Frances Perry Wetzel. She was a member of the Highlawn Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Wesley McElroy and one brother Paul Wetzel. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gary Phillips of Huntington, and one son and daughter-in-law, John and Melinda McElroy of Navarre, Fla.; one sister, Allene Barber of Huntington, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She has now joined her beloved husband, Wes, who was waiting to take her hand. Now they are walking the path together to their Heavenly Home. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She loved her family and home. She was an immaculate homemaker and a wonderful cook. There have been many angels in mom’s life that have helped to care for her. Her family would like to express their deep appreciation for all the loving care that has been given to her. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith II Timothy 4:7 Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

Orpha Opal Rose

Orpha Opal Rose, 79, of Hurricane died May 28, 2004, at home following a long illness.

She was born October 30, 1924 in Hurricane, and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dalton Rose, her parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving: sister, Vola Rose of Hurricane; daughters, Ada Call, Linda Faye Davis and JoAnn Rose, all of Hurricane, Marlene Goodwin and companion, Larry Westbrook, of South Charleston; sons, Wendell Rose and his wife, Becky, Frank Rose and his wife, Janet, Jack Rose and his wife, Barbara, Roger Glen Rose and his wife, Virginia, all of Hurricane, Alan Rose and his wife, Valerie, of Dunbar, Richard Rose and his wife, Andie, of Scott Depot; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Harold Richards officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Earl E. Cook

Earl E. Cook, 78, of Hurricane died May 27, 2004.

Service was held Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Pt. Pleasant.

Jewell Marie Hoffman

Jewell Marie Hoffman, 72, of Bancroft died May 28, 2004, at home surrounded by her family.

She was retired from West Virginia Rehabilitation Center and was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Hoffman.

Surviving: brother, Alfred A. Hedrick of Bancroft; sister, Delpha Rose Allen of Cross Lanes.

Graveside service was held Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Theresa M. Robinette

Theresa Maria Messer Robinette, 37, of Hurricane died unexpectedly May 26, 2004, at the home of her brother in Hurricane.

She was a textile worker for several years and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Junior Clark Messer, and her brothers, Clark and Jimmy Dale Messer.

Surviving: son, Isaac Dillon III of Milton; mother, Norma Jean Messer of Hurricane; sisters, Leona Miller of Hurricane and Gail Messer of Statesville, North Carolina; brothers, Terry Messer of Statesville, Jimmy Messer of Mooresville, North Carolina, Bobby and Roger Messer, both of Hurricane; several nieces and nephews.

Service was held Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley. Graveside service was held Sunday, May 30, 2004, in Rocky Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesville, North Carolina.

The family suggests memorial donations c/o Norma Jean Messer, PO Box 313, Teays WV 25569.

Venus Blake

Venus Rappold Blake, 94, of Culloden died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at home after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Una Rappold, her husband, John Blake, a granddaughter, Joan Bias, and a grandson, Terry Bias.

She was a member of Tempe (Arizona) Church of Christ.

Surviving: son, John E. Blake of Middleport, Ohio; daughters, Jeannine Broyles of Culloden, Geneva Blake of Denver, Colorado, Betty Bias of Richmond, Virginia, Doris Blake and Donna Blake, both of Culloden; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Service was held Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Minister George Erwin officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Charles Haynes

Charles Haynes, 84, of Poca died May 30, 2004, at home.

He was born March 26, 1920, a son of the late Amos and Norma Haynes. He was a retired filter plant operator at West Virginia American Water Co.

Surviving: daughters, Karen Spears and Charlie of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Brenda Eastwood and Jack of Poca; grandchildren, Eddie Haynes of Ravenswood and Mindy Spears of Lawrenceburg; great-grandchildren, Matthew Young, Zoe Haynes and Cory Haynes; sister-in-law, Belle Haynes of Evans.

Service was held Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

James Ray Jeffries

James Ray Jeffries, 57, of Indianapolis, Indiana died May 29, 2004.

He was born September 15, 1948 in Hometown, West Virginia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving: wife, Joyh Ann Riester Jeffries; sons, Ryan J. and Brandon R. Jeffries; daughter, Megan M. and Angelique N. Jeffries; mother, Ruby Ganoe Jeffries; sisters, Janet Douglas and Billie Jo Sutherland; four grandchildren.

Service was held Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Hometown Church of God Mission. Grinsteiner Funeral Home, Indianapolis, was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy M. Clark

Dorothy M. Parsons McDade Clark, 85, of Leon died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at home following a long illness.

She attended Pine Grove Church, Leon, and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Jemima Thornton Parsons; husbands, George L. McDade (1954) and Allen Clark (1974), brothers, Clyde, Charles, Virgle, Elmer, Everett, and Paul; sisters, Lucy Pearson and two baby sisters.

Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Vonda Lee and Dan Cottrell of Athens, Ohio; son and daughter-in-law, William Lee and Kathy McDade of Leon; sister, Macy R. Cross of Findley, Ohio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Service was held Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Phillip Walker officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Leon.

Johnathon Higginbotham

Johnathon D. Higginbotham, 17, of Pliny died June 3, 2004, from injuries received in a automobile accident.

Johnathon was a junior at Buffalo High School and a member of the boys basketball team.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Herman Otho and Geraldine Higginbotham.

Surviving: mother and her fiancee, Vallery Higginbotham and Jim Withrow of Winfield; father and stepmother, John and Vanessa Higginbotham of Pliny; maternal grandparents, Emanuel and Betty Wears of Apple Grove; stepgrandparents, Hillis and Dorothy Riddle of Eleanor; sister, Leandra Higginbotham of Eleanor; niece, Alisa Jane and nephew Chazz Dylan Grady, both of Eleanor; stepbrother, Nathaniel Arthur of Milton; stepsister, Tia Arthur of Pliny; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of family and friends.

Service was held Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Buffalo High School with the Rev. Marlin Campbell and Coach Chuck Elkins officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Buffalo High School Basketball Team, 3317 Buffalo Road, Buffalo WV 25033.
