Winnie K. Cremeans

Winnie Katherine Woody Cremeans, 95, of Scott Depot died June 23, 2004.

Born April 4, 1909 in Mason County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Sarah Edith Moses Woody. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Rev. John Bailey Cremeans, infant daughter, Betty Jean Cremeans, sisters, Irene Brumfield, Wilma Holley and Glenna Woody, brothers, Henry Woody, Charles Woody, Woodrow “Ted” Woody and Garland Woody, son-in-law, Clyde “Jack” Reynolds, and grandson-in-law, Jerry M. Black.

Winnie and her husband pastored many churches from huntington to Charleston and in the earlier years she operated a small grocery store in Milton while he served the church.

Surviving: daughter, Louise Reynolds of Milton; son, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Cremeans of Springfield, Missouri; brother, George Woody Jr. of Duluth, Minnesota; grandchildren, carolyn Black, Betty Jean Reynolds, Kristin Donovan, the Rev. John C. Cremeans and the Rev. Donald “Buddy” Cremeans; great-grandchildren, Jeff Black, Kelly Spencer, Kristi and Katie Donovan, Allison, Emily, John Bailey, Drew, Grace, Devin, and natalie Cremeans; great-great-grandchildre, Caitlin and Jonathan Black.

Service was held Monday, June 28, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Bruce Young, the Rev. David Ashworth and the Rev. Larry Woody officiating. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park, Milton.

Ruby P. Childress

Ruby P. Childress, 85, of Hurricane, formerly of Marietta, Georgia and Henderson, North Carolina, died June 26, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Sarah Slaughter Carter, and her husband, Emory “Buddy” Childress.

Ruby was a devoted wife, mother and the eldest of five siblings, living most o fher adult life in South Park, Kanawha City. Most recently she was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Henderson NC.

Surviving: sons and daughters-in-law, Rid and Malinda Childress of Marietta, Georgia, Bill and Ruby Childress of Henderson, North Carolina, Sam Childress of Honalulu, and John and Bethann Childress of Swanton, Ohio; sisters, Dolly Gray of Cross Lanes, Estelle Toon of Cross Lanes, Clo Robertson of Belle, and Ann Robertson of Oceanside, California; grandchildren, Kristen Childress of Milton, Jordan Childress of Swanton, Ohio, Joshua Childress of Swanton, and Andy Childress and wife, Shannon of Portsmouth, Virginia; one great-grandchild, erin Childress of Portsmouth.

Service was held Monday, June 28, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.

Gordon Harrison

Gordon Harrison, 88, of Eleanor died June 26, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was retired from Monsanto with 33 years of service and was an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Surviving: wife, Marguerite Clendenin Harrison; brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Service was held Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

Glenn Mark Graham

Glenn Mark Graham, 80, of Huntington, W.Va, formerly of Ashland Ky, passed from this life Thursday, June 24,2004, in the Huntington VA Medical Center after a brief illness. Glenn was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Huntington. He served as a minister of the gospel in The Church of Christ for many years and retired from C&O Railway working as a machinist. He was a veteran of the U.S Army. He leaves behind his wife, Evelyn Graham, and four children: three daughters, Glenda Demonbren and her husband Steve of San Antonio, Texas , Becky Davis and her husband Curt of Barboursville, W.Va., and Debbie Dahler and her husband Gil of Lavalette, W.Va, and one son, Glenn Graham and his wife Rosemary from Atlanta, Ga. Grandchildren include Curt and Jeff Davis, Kelli Sobonya, Rachel Tomblin, Josh and Jordan Dahler, April Shearer, Mark and Brian Graham, Mark and Michelle Demonbren. He also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29th, with Minister Danny Evans of the Farmdale Church of Christ officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Raymond Garcia, 81, of Milton, husband of Rena Blankenship Garcia, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at home. He was retired from Chemical Leaman Tank Lines. Memorial service was held Friday, July 2, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton; burial at a later date in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif

Vicki Lynn McCallister

Vicki Lynn McCallister, 53, of Culloden, W.Va, passed away June 25, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton by Alan Keathley. Burial in Culloden Cemetery. She was born Nov. 1, 1950, in Milton W.Va, a daughter of Lloyd McCallister of Culloden and the late Helen Burdette McCallister. She was a former employee of Blenko Glass and former owner of Flowers Etc. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Kelly Lynn White Cooper and her husband Michael of Milton and Cynthia Gayle White Fitchett of Barboursville; two sisters, V. Jane Lambert of Culloden and Venesa G. Smith of Charleston W Va, one brother, Vernon D. McCallister of Culloden, two grandchildren Kayle Mae Cooper and Carter McCallister Fitchett; and her fiance', Jeff Hensley. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Mills

Mr. Vernon Mills, 78, of Barboursville, went to heaven on Saturday, June 26, 2004. He was born July 29,1925, in Cabell County, a son of the late Edmond and Meral Hale Mills. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Enoch Mills. Vernon was a member of Steele Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a sergeant in the U.S Army with the 285 Engineers during World War II. He was a retired INCO employee with 40 years of service. Vernon is survived by his wife of S7 years, Janice L Nash Mills; three sisters, Dorthy Brown, Beatrice Simpkins and Delores Perry, and two brothers Dennis Mills and Larry Mills. Also surviving are one daughter, Karen Sue Walters and her husband Jack; four sons, Robert V Mills, Roger P. Mills and his wife Susan, Timothy A. Mills and his wife “Mernie” and Clinton B. Mills and his wife Teresa; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted at 1 pm June 29, 2004 at Wallace Funeral Home with the Rev Ralph Sager, Dr Ed Grant and Dr Chuck Pullins officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Shane Mills, Travis Mills, Ryan Walters, Tracy Blake, Jason Nash, Art Green, Duane Ruggier and Dennis Smith. Donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington or Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Delana M. Ball Taylor Fugate

Delana M. Ball Taylor Fugate, 96 formerly of Milton, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Harborside Healthcare, Toledo, Ohio, where she had been a resident for two years. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating. Burial in Milton Cemetery. Delana was born April 5,1908, in Milton. a daughter of the late John and Mary Alice Nicholas Ball. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Fugate; one son, John Taylor, one step-son Maynard Taylor; one brother, Louis Ball; and three sisters, Glenna Sweet, Mary Jo Clagg, and Helen Bias. She was a member of the Milton United Methodist Church. Delana retired after 25 years of service with Richmond Clinic. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Taylor and her husband Charles of Toledo, Ohio; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton United Methodist Church or may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Rosa Lee Pack Parsons

Mrs. Rosa Lee Pack Parsons, 73, of Branchland, W.Va., went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Lincoln Church of God by Rev. Lonnie E. Wilson. Burial in Dial Prichard Cemetery, Branchland. She was born May 16, 1931, in Wayne County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Thomas and Izettie Copley Pack of Wayne. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Woodrow Parsons, two brothers and one sister. She was a member of Lincoln Church of God and was a homemaker, loving mother, caring grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her best friend and very special sister, Emma Parsons; her children, Lee Collins, Donna Toler, Frances Collins, Brenda Goodman, Ray Parsons, Betty Lucas, Dreama Wilson, Eddie Parsons, Connie McComas, and Dennis Parsons; 34 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Huntington.

Loryane Ward

Loryane Ward, 91, died June 22, 2004, at the home of her son, James D. Ward, and daughter-in-law, Marsha C. Ward in Columbia, S.C. Mrs. Ward had been a resident of Barboursville, W.Va., since 1932. She was the daughter of the late William and Ella Pack. Mrs. Ward and her husband, the late Ezra J. Ward, were in business in Barboursville for almost 40 years. Mrs. Ward was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barboursville for over 70 years where she had been a member of the Dorcas Circle. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward Ward and six of her siblings. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marsha Ward of Columbia, SC; daughter-in-law Lottie Ward of Brooksville, Fla.; brother Donald Pack of Melbourne, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Charles Ward of Floral City, Fla., Teresa Baumgartner of Sylvania, Ohio, Shelia Krementz of Ottawa Lake, Mich., Kimberly Drake of Toledo, Ohio, and Christopher, Marshall and Courtney Ward of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces. Services were held Saturday, June 26 at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, by Rev. Judy Fisher. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Main and Water Streets, Barboursville, WV 25504.

Lucy Elizabeth Prichard

Lucy Elizabeth Prichard, 68, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Monday, June 21, 2004, at her home. Memorial services were conducted Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by the Rev. Jim Franklin. She was born July 5, 1935, in Huntington, W.Va. She was a retired employee of Huntington State Hospital and was a member and deacon at Milton Presbyterian Church. She was raised at the Prichard School in Ona and Milton by Kathleen Kennedy and Louise Ash from 1935 until the late 1950s. She is survived by several close “family members” with whom she made her home while at the Prichard School.

Lillian F. Janey Chapman Edmonds

Lillian F. Janey Chapman Edmonds, 84, of Culloden passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 25, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with the Rev. Jason Black officiating. She was born November 23, 1919, to the late Bill M. and Mattie Lewis Janey. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Cecil Chapman and Oak Edmonds; son, Darrell Chapman; two daughters, Fay Schneider and Ruth Hutchinson; one granddaughter, Teresa Racer; her sister, Lula Willis passed away a few hours later. Lillian is survived by four sons and five daughters-in-law, Ray and Maggie Chapman of Hackleburg, Ala., Harold and Linda Chapman of Austin, Texas , Melvin and Norma Chapman of Franklin, Ky., Daniel and Dreema Chapman of Hurricane and Opal Chapman of Milton; five daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Bird of Hurricane, Bonnie and Jerry Breedlove of Monroe, N.C., Shirley and Dana Elkins, Betty and Ward Racer, Marie and Alvin Hedrick, all of Culloden; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Edgar Janey of Fort Myers, Fla. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or church or charity of one's choice in memory of her son, Darrell Chapman, who recently passed away from cancer.

Jewell M. Gue

Jewell M. Gue, 75, of Lesage, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 25, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, by Rev. Lou Wroten and Rev. Phillip Bowen. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born April 16, 1929, a daughter of the late Hurston and Gertie Kirk Vannatter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Darlene Gue; one brother, Cline Vannatter. She is survived by her husband, Willis Gue; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nellie and Irvin Scarberry of Huntington, Molly and Marty Lewis of Ironton; two sisters, Dorothy Cremeans of Huntington and Janice Smith of South Point; two grandsons, Christopher Scarberry and Nathan Simpkins.

Thomas H. Snider

Thomas H. Snider, 78, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Friday, June 25, 2004, at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville, with Dr. T.J. DuBose officiating. He was born August 31, 1925, in Milton, W.Va., a son of the late Virgil L. and Pauline Perry Snider. Mr. Snider served in the United States Coast Guard during the Okinawa Invasion. He is survived by one sister, Hilda Snider Cain and her husband James of Milton; one niece, Sharon “Bootie” Lambert and her husband Robert E. of Milton; two great-nieces, Lisa Beckett and her husband John of Ona and Cathy Conrad and her husband Lee of Milton; great-great nephews, McKinley Robert Conrad and Sawyer Lambert Beckett; great-great niece, Savannah Paige Beckett; two aunts, Bessie Heck and Helen Smith, both of Milton; and three special friends, Tommy Harbor, Joe Webster and Paul McCallister. The family would like to thank Morris Memorial Nursing Home and St. Mary's Hospital for taking such good care of him. Heck Funeral Home, Milton was in charge of arrangements.

Stevenson Ray Bays, 50, of Culloden, son of Erma and Kelson Bays of Culloden, died Sunday, June 20, 2004. He was employed at Estes Trucking, Charleston terminal. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Lawson Cemetery, Big Creek.

Hazel Frances Lyons

Hazel Frances Lyons, 66 of Barboursville, W.Va., died June 21, 2004, at home after a short illness. She was born March 24, 1938, in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Walter and Susan Rose Lawhon. She was also preceded in death by her brother Leon Lawhon. She was co-founder of Tire Shop Inc. in Barboursville, where she also served as an officer. She is survived by her husband, Dale Lyons of Barboursville; son Dale Clayton Lyons of Barboursville and Thomas Walter Lyons of North Carolina; sisters, Ann Wood of Kenova, W.Va., and Betty Knight of Cottageville, W.Va., Evelyn Adkins of Wurtland, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.

Mary Frances Johnson Vititoe

Mary Frances Johnson Vititoe, 91, of Barboursville, widow of Lee Vititoe died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the home of her daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Winford Curry officiating. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was born July 15, 1912, the daughter of the late Ishmael and Ella Johnson. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Johnson; two brothers, Clinton and Ishmael Jr. Johnson; three great grandchildren, Jeffrey Meadows, Charlie Allen and Ryan Vititoe. She was a long time member of the Susannah Missionary Baptist Church where she served as choir director and Sunday School teacher for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Chapman of Salt Rock, and one son and daughter-in-law, Harold David and Marlene Vititoe of Barboursville; five grandchildren, Judy Meadows, Daniel and Jack Chapman, Deborah Allen and Mark Vititoe; six great grandchildren, Mary, James, Emily and Laura Chapman, Duncan and Cameran Allen; four sisters, Hattie Vititoe of Ona, Halsy Payton and Clodene Stratton both of Milton and Opal Ellis of Huntington; two foster daughters, Leslie Chapman and Teresa Thompson. The family wants to thank Hospice of Huntington and Dr. Timothy Saxe for their care. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

William R. Harris Sr.

William R. Harris Sr., 79, of Scott Depot died August 16, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.

Born October 24, 1924 in Charleston, he was a son of the late George Benson and Lena Withrow Harris. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth F. Stevens Harris, sister, Rachael McKeny, and brother, George L. Harris.

He was retired from Genuine Parts, Kanawha City, and was a 44-year resident of Putnam County.

Surviving: sons, William Robert Harris Jr., John Edward Harris and his wife, Marcia, and Kenneth Ray Harris, all of Scott Depot; sister, Sarah Campbell of St. Albans; grandchildren, Elizabeth Crawford, Brian White side, Harry R. Harris, Timothy Harris, John E. “Dusty” Harris, Christy Moses Rivers, Darren “Bo” Moses; 10 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Robert W. Kelly officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
