W.A. “Ted” Burdette, 65, of Poca died August 9, 2004, at home.
He was retired from the United Mine Workers and a member of Greenlee United Methodist Church.
Surviving: wife, Delores Burdette; children, Terry Burdette, Jackie Atkins, Garry Atkins, Larry Atkins and Cheryl Carnie; two sisters; three brothers; five grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with Arlie Lynch and Chad Harding officiating. Burial was in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

Leunice Dillard
Leunice J. Dillard, 73, of Liberty died Monday, August 9, 2004, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
She was born February 18, 1931 in Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Guy and Lola Fisher Monday. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Glen Monday.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Community Tabernacle at Liberty and the Ladies Auxiliary at the church.
Surviving: husband, Carmen L. Dillard; sons, Randall L. Dillard and wife, Debbie of Given, Jeffrey A. Dillard and wife, Sherry, of Liberty; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Lewis of Kenna; brothers, Carroll Monday of Huntington, Darrell Monday of Sissonville and Ervin Monday of South Charleston.
Service was held Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Long & Fisher Funeral Home, Sissonville, with the Rev. Billy Casto officiating. Burial was in Emma Chapel Cemetery, Liberty.
Taxine G. Fitzgerald
Taxine G. Miller Fitzgerald, 79, of Poca died August 10, 2004.
She was a retired lab tech from FMC and was a former employee of Bancroft Post Office. She attended Bancroft Church of God Mission and was a Christian, loving mother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Staff Sgt. Gene E. Fitzgerald Sr., her parents, James and Della Miller, brothers, Frank, Harless, Paul and Pete Miller, sister, Marie Landers, and her twin sister, Maxine Kelley.
Surviving: children and their spouses, Patty and Eddie Johnson of Poca, Gene E. Jr. and Amy Fitzgerald of St. Albans; grandchildren, Tony Erwin, Stephen Erwin and Megan Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren; one step-grandson, Brad Johnson, three step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Service was held Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel, Poca, with the Rev. Ralph Workman officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

James C. Honn, 64, of Hurricane died August 11, 2004.

Delphia C. Dolin
Delphia Catherine Dolin, 90, died July 31, 2004, at West Horizons Nursing Home in Gainesville, Georgia.
She was born January 27, 1914 in Poca, the daughter of the late Clate and Nettie Monday Casto.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles s. Dolin and daughter, Dotty Lou Dolin.
Surviving: daughrer, Elouise Harrison of Eleanor; son, Danny Dolin of Gainesville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Russell Walker, 71, of Hurricane died August 11, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital, following a long bout with cancer.
Born May 13, 1933 in Nitro, he was a son of the late Earl Sr. and Edna May Gunnoe Walker.
He was a member of Scary Creek Church of God, Scott Depot, and was a retired riverboat captain from American Electric Power with 35 years of service. He also worked with Madison Coal Company for 10 years. Being an avid hunter, he was also a member of the Beagle Dog Association. Cattle farming was another of his passions.
Surviving: wife, Genoa Farley Walker; sons, Russell Duane Walker of Poca and Randall Walker of St. Albans; stepchildren, Philip Farley of Mount Carbon and Gwen Kinciad of Big Chimney; sisters, Genevieve McCoy of Cooper City, Florida, Phyllis Zimmerman of Orange Park, Florida, Linda Whittington of Nitro, and Pamela Walker of Cross Lanes; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, August 14, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Keith Hudson, the Rev. Garry Hale and his grandson, Bron Walker, officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Vola Virginia Rose, 78, of Hurricane died Friday, August 13, 2004, in Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitatrion following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Rose, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Surviving: son, Jerry Rose of Hurricane; daughters, Joyce Martin of Culloden and Dora Rooper of Milton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Elbert B. Tucker
Elbert B. Tucker, 87, of Buffalo died at home on Friday, August 13, 2004, following a short illness.
He was a retired Teamster, belonging to Charleston Teamsters Local 175, a member of the Buffalo Church of God, a member of Kanawha Valley A.F.&A.M. No. 36, Buffalo, Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Whittington Tucker, wife, Martha Hammack Tucker, brpthers, Ancil Tucker, Ezra Tucker and Otis Tucker; sisters, Bessie Cunningham, Velvie and Hasie Tucker.
Surviving: daughters, Frances Palmer and Vickie Casto Coyle, both of Kissimmee, Florida; sons, Rickie Tucker of Scott Depot and Terry Tucker of Ft. Knox, Kentucky; sister, Oma Davis of Holly, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Verla Mae Napier West, 67, of Poca died August 13, 2004.
She was a former employee of Smiley's and Gino's. She was a housewife and a member of Raymond City Community Church, where she was active in quarterts and singing groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl West, daughter, Karen S. Hill, and grandson, Elliot West.
Surviving: sons and their spouses, Howard “Butch” and Cheryl West of Springfield, Illinois, Carlos “Eric” and Donna West of Marietta, Ohio, Barry and Arya Farouzanfar of Virginia; brothers, the Rev. M. Eileen Childs
Mrs. M. Eileen Childs, 79, of Hurricane died August 14, 2004, at home.
Born September 16, 1924 in New Haven, she was a daughter of the late Okey E. and Laura Hesson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandchildren, Kristi Gibson and Chad Gibson.
Surviving: husband, Cecil Childs; son, Marty Childs and wife, Karen, of Kearney, Nebraska; daughter, Tanya Gibson and husband, William, of Hurricane; sister, Mae Reynolds of Pt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Staci Gibson and Chuck Childs; great-grandson, Zachary Childs.
