Avis A. Reynolds Beaty, 80, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Friday, Sept 17, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m.. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with the Rev. Bill Spears officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born June 15, 1924, in Cabell County, W.Va, a daughter of the late Harold Ray and Genive Davis Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Beaty and brother, Jack Reynolds. She is survived by her sister, Audrey Gibson; two nephews, Nelson Gibson and Clyde “Bud” Gibson; and two nieces, Carolyn Black and Betty Reynolds, all of Milton. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Allen Black Jr.

Mr. Charles Allen Black, Jr., 69, of Barboursville, W.Va., died peacefully at his home Thursday morning Sept 16, 2004. He was born in Huntington W.Va., on June 11, 1935, a son of the late Charles Allen Black Sr. and Helen Keefer Black Young. He is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Lee Black. He worked 40 years for CSX in Huntington. He was a lifelong member of Ninth Avenue United Methodist Church and a current member of Pea Ridge United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sally Annette Eaves Black. He was the caring and supportive father of three surviving children: son, Ted Black and wife, Dora Sue, of Arlington Va.; daughter, Charlann Black McKenna and husband, Chris, of Ona, W.Va.; and son, Jeff Black and wife, Mary, of Milton, W.Va. He has seven grandchildren Seth Black, Kenneth, Stephanie and Heather McKenna and Adam, Ryan and Evan Black. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Black Payton and her husband Darrell of Philippa W.Va.; his sister-in-law, Sharon Eaves Dabney and her husband, Jack of Chesapeake Va; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Henson Mortuary with the Rev. Sue Jarrett officiating. Burial in Woodmere Memorial Park Huntington. Daniel Everett Cox

Daniel Everett Cox, 61, of Culloden died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. He was retired from Lambert Transfer and Storage Co. (United Van Lines), and Teamsters' Union. Daniel will be missed by his family and friends of many years at the Milton flea market. Daniel is survived by his wife of 22 years, Barbara Keesaer Mills Cox; daughters, Penny Cox Mason of Charleston, and Nancy Cox Brown of Elkview; sons, Daniel E. Cox Jr, of St. Albans, Spencer Lee Cox of Charleston, and Herbie M. Cox of Boone County, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Rebecca Mills Beckelhimer of Teays Valley; brother, John C. Cox of Charleston; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his dog, Dutchess. Funeral service were held Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. DeWitt Keyser officiating. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Allen Funeral Home, 2837 Main St., Hurricane, WVa, was in charge of arrangements.

Christina Renee' Dixon

Christina Renee' Dixon, 31, of Barboursville, wife of Larry Dixon, died Friday, September 17, 2004, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Huntington; burial in RidgeIawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn M. Kiser

Evelyn M. Kiser, 77, of Barboursville passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. David Thompson. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born March 5, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was active with the Girl Scouts and was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Kiser. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Morgan of Barboursville, Lillian Ernest of Indiana and Tara Shell of Huntington; two sons, Steven Kiser of Barboursville and Charles Kiser of Texas : nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lendel Lee Maxson

Lendel Lee Maxson, 72, of Hurricane, husband of Freda K Maxson, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital. He was retired from C&P Telephone and worked at Midway Ford after retirement. Graveside service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Arrangements by Alien Funeral Home, Hurricane.

Fred Davis

Fred Davis, 88, of Salt Rock W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center. He was born Jan 10, 1916, in Branchland, W.Va., a son of the late Mencer and Euna Smith Davis. He was owner and operator of Guyan Service Center, a Realtor and member of the U.S. Army's 101st Armored Division. Mr. Davis was an Honored Guardsman for president Roosevelt as he was being transported on a train from Warm Springs, Ga, to Washington D.C. He was also a Christian and sang in the Pleasant View Baptist Church Choir. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Earl, Donald and Anderson Davis and sisters, Shirley Brunty and Opal Clay. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Davis; sisters, Ouida Ellis of Branchland, Eulah Matheany of Sugar Grove, Ohio; and brother, Argy Davis of Branchland. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept 18, 2004, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin W.Va., with Pete Davidson and Hayes Ellis officiating. Burial in Dial Cemetery, Branchland. The family would like to give special thanks to Frankie and Shelia Jobe, Glory Way Baptist Church Dennis Donahue, Phyllis Maynard, Hazel Browning, Vada Kopsolias and neighbors of Jason Court. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Mervin Johnson

Mervin Johnson, 57, of Wayne, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Sept 18, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Heron Adkins. Burial in Bowen Cemetery. He was born Nov. 8, 1946, in Mingo County, W.Va., a son of the late Mervin and Hazel Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Raymond Jennings and his special mother-in-law, Myrtle Adkins. He was a retired employee of Heiner's Bakery and a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy A. Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, Mervin Dale and Jennifer Marie Johnson of Kenova, W.Va.; and one daughter and her fiance, Kristi Dawn Johnson of Wayne and Jonathan Jackson of Barboursville. He also leaves behind a special father-in-law, Forney E. Adkins of Barboursville, whom he called “Dad.” He is also survived by one sister, Betty York of Wayne; also left behind are four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Wanda and Charles Adkins of East Lynn, Donna and Dwain Sloane of Huntington, Retha and Frank Sabado of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Diana Bonds of Aberdeen,Md.; two nieces, Pam Adkins of East Lynn and Linzie Bonds of Aberdeen; five nephews, Eric Jenkins of Elkton, Va., Bobby Adkins of East Lynn, Joshua Sloane of Barboursville, Mike York of Lavalette and David York of Wayne; and also left behind are special friends, Calvin Stover and John Warden Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sidney T. Sims

Mrs. Sidney T. Sims, 85, of Winfield passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Putnam, Hurricane.

She was owner/operator of Sims Grocery since 1944. She was a member of Winfield Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Winfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Frosty” Sims.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Allen L. and Barbara Sims of Winfield; granddaughters, Vickie Lynn Johnson, Rebecca Ann Smith, Diana Lee Kline and Mary Louise Jorday; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and niece, Jane Blackwell.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3624 Winfield Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Clifford Wilcoxen officiating. Burial in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Chapman Funeral Home, 3624 Winfield Road, Winfield, was in charge of arrangements.

Nina L. Smith

Nina Lorriane Jacobs Smith, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 8, 2004, at 83 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Thomas Smith and her daughter-in-law, Jean Fannin Smith.

Four loving sons, Gordon Thomas Smith and wife, Beverly, of Teays Valley, Reginald Morris Smith and wife, Charlene of Charleston, Dana Keith Smith and Richard Wayne Smith of Orlando survive her.

She also left memories of her with four loving grandchildren, Reginald Smith II and spouse, Jennifer, Melissa Rosen and spouse, Bryan, all of Charleston, Christine Smith and Michael Smith, each of Orlando, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Smith and Drew Orcutt-Rose; a brother-in-law, Robert L. Smith and his wife, Ruth, also survive her.

She was a past volunteer for CAMC at both the Memorial and Women and Children's hospitals. She was an active participant of the Alley Cat's Exercise Class at Boyd Memorial Church and she retired after several years of work as a medical assistant to Dr. George Hamrick. She was an avid reader and had won several achievement awards for reading from the Kanawha County Library the included the reading of 99 books in 1999. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Her sons would like to thank her friend, Doris Chessman, for all of her help and friendship.

A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes with the Rev. Jason Thomas officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care Inc., 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV, 25064.

Roy G. Stewart

Roy G. Stewart, 66, of Point Pleasant, died Sept. 14, 2004. Graveside services were held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant.

Katherine K. White d

Katherine K. White d,, 85, of Cross Lanes. died Sept. 14, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center for Putnam, Hurricane.

She was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Mount Union, Pa., and was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert G. White d; and brothers, Steve, Harold and Mike Kosa.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen White d of Hurricane, Bill White d and Lori Reeves- White d of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Helen Hester of Eleanor; two brothers, John and Oscar Kosa, both of Eleanor, two grandsons, Chad White d of Lake Charles, La., Michael Reeves of Pittsburgh, Pa.; granddaughter, Brittany White d of Hurricane.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Jeff Nichols officiating. Burial in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Joe F. Chaney

Joe F. Chaney, 66, of Culloden passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center. Graveside service were conducted Friday, Sept 17, 2004, in Culloden Cemetery with the Rev. Kelson Bays officiating. He was born March 21, 1938, in Hurricane, WV, a son of the late Bernie and Arilla Gibson Chaney. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Wayne Chaney and Bernie Chaney. He is survived by his wife, Barbara H. Chaney; two daughters, Jo Ann Chaney and Janice Basham, both of Culloden; one son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Paula Chaney of Chappells, S.C.; one sister, Pat Stinson of Ona; four grandchildren, Jordan Chaney, Camille Basham, Jessica Chaney and Jasmin Chaney, and two greatgrandchildren, Curtis Chaney and CJ Basham. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Terry “B” Burdette

Terry “B” Burdette, 41, of Charleston died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, after a short illness.

He was a 1981 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, was employed by the city of Charleston and was a member of Charleston Moose Lodge 1444.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Burdette.

Surviving are his wife, Candy; mother, Delores Burdette of Poca; brothers, Jackie and Garry Atkins, both of Charleston, Larry Atkins of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Cheryl Carnie of Charleston, S.C.

Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Fairley McCormick officiating. Burial in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

Regina Opal Jameson

Regina Opal Jameson of Milton passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville, with the Rev. Gerald Dotson was born in Fayette County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Wyatt and Martha Ellen Bailes Halstead. She was also preceded in death by one brother and nine sisters. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda D. Jameson and Suzanne Clagg and Oval, all of Milton; three grandchildren, Rebecca D. Kinsey and husband, Jeff, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Pamela M. Williamson of Milton and Anthony N. Williamson of Milton; one brother and sister-in-law, James H. and Ann Halstead of Charleston, W.Va.; and one sister, Freda Edwards of Ona. Heck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Owen Elliot Bias

Owen Elliot Bias, 84, of Milton went home to be with his Lord Saturday, Sept. 11, 200.4, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Dr. Charles Hendricks officiating; burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Owen was born April 4, 1920, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a son of the late Charles and Clara Clark Bias He was also in death by two brothers, Forrest Bias and Darrell Bias, and one sister, Polly Miller. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hurricane, W.Va., and also a member of Milton Masonic Lebanon Lodge 68 AF&AM. Owen served in World War II and during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston. Owen is survived by his loving wife, Audrey Morrison Bias; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and E. Woody Woodall; three grandchildren Michele Bird and husband Darwin and Chris Woodall and Jenny Woodall; one great-grandchild, Tyler Bird; three brothers, Kelly Bias of Milton, Charles Bias of Florida and Keith Bias of Hurricane; one sister, Shirley Wicker of Virginia; and a very special caregiver, Marcella Woodard.
