Robert L. Bates, 57, of Barboursville passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Mariner Health Care. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, by the Rev. Richard Black. He was born Dec. 23, 1946, in Lancaster, Ohio, a son of Lou Woosley Bates of Barboursville and the late James A. Bates. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Roger David Bates. Robert was formerly an employee of the City of Barboursville. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Shelia and Charles Kilgore of Huntington; one brother and sister-in-law, Okey and Brenda Bates of Barboursville; three nieces, Tammy Black and her husband, Don, of Milton, Diana Black and her husband, Chris, of Barboursville and Shelly Kilgore of Huntington; and one great-nephew, Shawn Bates of Barboursville. Berkley Harbour
Berkley Harbour, 82, of Milton went home to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Sunbridge Care and Rehab of Putnam. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Paul Meadows and the Rev. David Ashworth officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Berkley was a member of Church in the Valley, Milton. He was born June 4, 1922, in Milton, W.Va., a son of the late Oliver and Viola Chaney Harbour. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis R. Erwin Harbour; daughter, Rita Kay Harbour; four brothers, Paul Harbour, Clifton Harbour, Melvin Harbour and Calvin Harbour; and four sisters, Lillian Mills, Virginia Hurt, Nevada Mallott and Alberta Harbour. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in which he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Bridge at Remagen and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Harbour was also a member of the VFW Post 9796, Lebanon Lodge #68, Milton, and a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 317. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gatha and David W. McCauley of Morgantown, W.Va.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, William Berkley Harbour and Gerald and Tammy Harbour, both of Milton; five grandchildren Jennifer McCauley, Ashley McCauley, Tyler Harbour, Emily Harbour and Allyson Harbour; three sisters, Reba Thompson, Pauline Beaver and Charlotte Wood; and one brother, Clifford Harbour. Delmar L. Massie
Delmar L. Massie, 78, of Ona, WV, went home to be with his Lord Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nellie Reed Massie; one son, Roger E. Massie, and one brother, Ted Massie. He was born January 7, 1926, in Cabell County, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Massie; one son, Terry Massie and his wife, Susie, of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Teresa Miller and her husband Bill of Ona, WV. He had five grandchildren, Scott Massie of Lexington, Ky., Dale Massie and his wife, Amanda, of Lexington, Ky., Mary Jean Massie of Charlotte, NC, Sommer Miller of Morgantown, WV, and Zach Miller of Ona, WV, and one great-grandchild, Chanda Massie of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, George Massie and his wife, Willla Mae, of Greenbottom, WV; one sister, Kathleen McCarty and her husband, Don, of Apple Grove, WV. He was the godfather of Brad and Aaron Benedict. He was blessed with his neighbors and good friends of 42 years, Homer Nida and Leo Lake. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa. He was a former employee of Gould Battery, Commercial Lovelace and Cook Motor Lines. He is also the former owner of Bowincal's Restaurant in Huntington. Delmar had many loyal customers and made many friends over the last 26 years. He never turned away the hungry. Delmar was a Gideon with the Cabell Lincoln Camp for 35 years. He held many offices and was the previous chaplain. He enjoyed attending and speaking at churches throughout Cabell and Lincoln counties.
He also served on the board of directors for the Huntington City Mission and is a member of Minerva Lodge #13 in Barboursville, where he is a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Z-Warner United Methodist but attended Fellowship Baptist Church. He held many offices at Z-Warner, where he was chairman of the board and a trustee for many years. The family would like to thank Hospice of Huntington for their compassion and support. Funeral service were conducted Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Henson Mortuary, with interment following in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, W.Va., with the Rev. Carroll Jones and Dr. Jerry Warren officiating. In his memory, donations may be made to Gideon's International. Minerva Lodge #13, AF&AM Barboursville served as pallbearers and held Graveside Masonic Rites.
Mary Lea Agee
Mary Lea Simpson Agee, 63, of Cross Lanes, formerly of Buffalo, died Monday, October 11, 2004, at home following a long illness.
She was an elementary teacher, having taught at Timberlake Christian School in Lynchburg, Virginia, a supervisor in the registrar's office at Liberty University, Lynchburg, and a member of Cross Lanes Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eldie Simpson, sister, Ruby May Simpson, and brothers, Jerry, Jackie and Harold Simpson.
Surviving: husband, Harold Agee, mother, Helen Simpson Grady of Leon; son, Tony Harmon of Rock Branch; daughter, Debbie Melton of Wisconsin; brother, Eddie Dale “Bucky” Simpson of Leon; sisters, Faye Searls of Hurricane, Janice Mitchell of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Geneva Persinger of Mount Gilead, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Anna L. Basham
Anna “Louise” Basham, 78, of Bancroft died Sunday, October 10, 2004, after a long illness.
She was born September 15, 1926 in Asheville, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James S. and Anna C. Shipman.
She was a longtime employee of Charleston Telephone Answering Service. After her retirement she enjoyed babysitting for various families in the Charleston area. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, Omega Chapter.
Louise was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin R. Basham.
Surviving: daughter, Susan T. Martin of Red House; son, Luther C. Basham of Cedar Grove; grandchildren, Earl R. Hill of Red House, Erica L. Hill of Charleston and Bo Price of Leesville, South Carolina; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Price of Leesville; sister, Dorothy Bolten of Marion, North Carolina; a very special friend and caregiver, Anne Dean of Bancroft.

Dorothy L. Erwin
Dorothy L. Erwin, 88, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at Palm Garden Nursing Home, Sun City Center, Florida.
She was born July 16, 1916 in Kanawha County, and was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow “Woody” Erwin.
Surviving: son, Charles R. Erwin of Winfield; daughter, Mae A. Rigsby of Sun City Center; grandsons, Brian Rigsby of Dallas, Georgia, Doug Erwin of Dunbar and Tim Erwin of Beckley; great-granddaughter, Mary Lauren Erwin of Beckley.

William F. Farmer
William F. “Bill” Farmer, 87, of Scott Depot died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital after an apparent heart attack.
He was a 39-year resident of Putnam County and a retired carpenter with over 52 years of service with Carpenters Union Local 1207, charleston. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He attended Winfield Community Church.
Surviving: wife, Wanda Persinger Farmer; sons, David and J.C. Farmer of Scott Depot, Bob Farmer of Hurricane and Steve Farmer of Winfield; daughters, Karen McCallister of South Carolina and Sue Bowman of Scott Depot; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, with the Rev. Mike Rader and the Rev. Ronnie Tucker officiating. Burial was in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft.
Guy L. Nisbet Jr.
Guy Laffoon Nisbet Jr., 70, of Winfield died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital following a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy L. Nisbet Sr. and martha B. Nisbet of Winfield.
He was a former employee of Broughton Dairy and the self-employed owner of the former Winfield Supermarket. He was a member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Beni Kedem Temple and the Nitro Moose Lodge. He was president of the Winfield Seniors, a member of the Silver Haired Legislature and on the board of directors of Multi-CAP. He was also active and involved in the achievements and improvements of various areas of Winfield and Putnam County. He was an annual planner and organizer of the Charleston South Park Mission Hollow Reunion. He was a graduate of Charleston High School Class of 1952 and served eight years in the Navy Reserve.
Surviving: his wife of 50 years, Modina S. Nisbet; son, Guy L. Nisbet III and wife, Patricia of Charleston; daughter, Teresa A. Nisbet of Winfield; grandchldren, Jessica R. Nisbet of Columbia, Maryland, Nathan R. Nisbet and wife, Sarah of St. Albans, Jonathan V. Nisbet of Scott Depot, Bryant A., Nisbet, Phillip S. Nisbet and N. Nicole Nisbet of Winfield; sisters, Oralee Kieffer of Beford, Pennsylvania and Emma Firetti of Columbia, Maryland.
Service was held Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Vernon E. Dudley
Vernon E. “Buck” Dudley, 77, of Scott Depot died October 2, 2004, at home after an extended illness.
Born July 11, 1927 in Eagle Rock, Virginia, he was the only son of the late Phillip Young Dudley and Mildred Hunter Dudley.
He was a 1949 graduate of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, with an degree in electrical engineering. He was a former employee of Union Carbide Corporation with 18 years of service prior to his founding of Gala Industries Inc., of which her served as president and CEO. He was a member of St. Timothy's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, Hurricane, and served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army.
Surviving: wife, Lucile C. Dudley; daughters, Laura d. Leslie and her husband, Robert W., of Winfield, and Jaquelin D. Dudley, Ph.D., of Austin, Texas ; granddaughters, Andrea Leslie and Corine McLeod; grandsons, Josh Leslie and Philip McLeod; sister, Mary D. Pauley of Daleville, Virginia; brother-in-law, Harold Wilhelm of Troutville, Virginia.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 16, 2004, at St. Timothy's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church with the Rev. Cheryl Winter officiating. An additional memorial service was ehld Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Gala Industries, Eagle Rock. Interment was in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Eagle Rock. Mary Violet “Nan” Hanson of Poca died October 12, 2004, after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by sister, Naomi O'Dell Parsley, and brother, Homer Cleon O'Dell.
She was a member of Nitro Chapter Order of the Watern Star and a very active member of Poca United Methodist Church.
Surviving: her husband of 61 years, Lewis T. Hanson; son, Duane Hanson of Winfield; daughter, Pam Childers of Poca; grandchildren, Wendy monk, Sarah Massey, Josh Childres, Patrick Hanson, Kerry Snyder, and Deanna Gaddy; great-grandlchildren, Katelyn and Logan Gaddy; brother, K.G. O'Dell; loving caregivers, Peggy Armstrong, Mary Cremeans, Deborah Edgell and Sherry Rankin.

Mark Wayne Hatfield, 48, of Milton went home to be with his Lord Thursday, Oct 14, 2004, at his residence. Mark was born Oct. 22, 1955, in Milton, a son of the late Ervin Eugene Hatfield. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Larry Eugene Hatfield. Robert `Bob' Johnson
Robert “Bob” Johnson, 93, of Ona, W.Va, for of Huntington, Salt Rock and Myra, W.Va, died at home Friday, Oct 15, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosabel and Charles Johnson; his brothers, Charles Johnson and Dewey Johnson; his sisters Jettie Heck, Lily Adkins Taylor, Garnett Johnson, Alma Johnson, Pearl Johnson; his son-in-law, Leonard Hand, and his beloved wife Reva Arlene Harbour Johnson. He iz survived by his four children and their spouses, Robert and Ann Johnson, Dewey and Shirley Johnson, Sandra Hand and Delores and Roland Esque.
He and his wife were married for 65 short years, during which they saw their small family of four children grown, blessing them with their greatest joy - grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had 14 grandchildren, Cynthia Johnson Adam, Laura Johnson Inman, Tracy Johnson, Amy Johnson Smith, Richard Johnson, Danny Johnson, Beth Johnson Gillespie, David Johnson, Greg Johnson, Deborah Johnson, Arthur Hand, Katie Hand McCallister, Doug Esque and Crystal Esque Welch and their spouses.
His 16 great-grandchildren are Nathan Adam, Lauren Adam, Emily Inman, Caroline Inman, Bobby Johnson IV, Braxton Johnson, Sammie Smith, Sophie Smith, Jacob Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Justin Gillespie, Andrew Gillespie, Josh McCallister, Elizabeth Esque and Nathan Welch. Additionally, he is survived by two nieces, Alma Johnson and Mabel Gordon; a nephew, Billy Jo Adkins; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Frennis Harbour, Dorothy Harbour, Fern and Les Maynard, Julie Alberta Clark, Dessie Harbour, Juanita and Jack Adkins, Ouida and Emerson Pearson, Winston and Reba Harbour, Edward and Rachel Harbour and Judy and Bob Loudermilk and their combined 34 children and families.
Throughout his 93 years, he was blessed with his family, far too many friends to list and thoughtful and caring neighbors, all of which, in turn, felt blessed by his friendship. He was a Methodist by faith and first met the Lord at the Methodist church in Myra, W Va, where as a child, he was regularly allowed to ring the bell in the church's bell tower. As an adult, he attended Salt Rock Methodist Church and knew many Faith United Methodist Church, Huntington, members well. He worked as a drill press operator for the American Car and Foundry for “43 years, 3 months and 5 days” as he so often quoted. Johnson-Nichols Funeral Home, Wayne, was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held Monday, October 18, 2004, with burial following at Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock, WV.
