Maude Kathryn Mitchell

Maude Kathryn Mitchell, 92, of Huntington, having made her home with Janey and Tom Davis, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Heritage Center. She was born July 17, 1912, in Milton, W.Va., a daughter of the late James and Junie Harshbarger Ryalls. She was a caregiver, having worked for the state of West Virginia. Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Sam Blankenship of Barboursville, W.Va., June Cox and Joyce Mitchell both of Huntington; a son, James Mitchell of Huntington; a sister, Inez Field of Milton; two brothers, Robert Ryalls of Milton and Richard Ryalls of East Bank W.Va.; and 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Private burial was held in Milton Cemetery. The family wishes donations be made to the Cabell-Wayne Association of the Blind, at 38 Washington Ave., Huntington, WV 25704. Arrangements by Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington.

Frank Shepherd

Mr. Frank Shepherd, age 74, of Huntington, W.Va., died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born February 3, 1930, in Cabell County, West Virginia, the son of the late Charles R. and Mary Alice Stewart Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was a retired businessman and was a member of Farmdale Church of Christ. He was also a member of the VFW #1064. He served in the U.S. Army. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Judy Young of Kenova, W.Va., Mary Jean and Jesse Meno of New Bern, N.C., Brenda Gail and Todd Estep of Charleston S.C.; two sons, Frank and Ann Shepherd of Charleston, S.C., Joe Ray Shepherd of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Collins of Huntington, W.Va., Mrs. Grace Mallow of Barborusville, W.Va.; three brothers, Freeman Shepherd of Barboursville, W.Va., Norman Shepherd of Barboursville, W.Va., Roger Shepherd of Barboursville, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; two sisters, Minnie Woodward and Lorene Sowards; two brothers, Richard and Randolph Shepherd. Henson Mortuary, Huntington, was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were conducted at Henson Mortuary on Thursday, November 18, 2004, with Minister Danny Evans officiating. Interment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, W.Va., with VFW #1064 conducting military graveside rites.

Hersel Franklin Wilson

Hersel Franklin Wilson, 84, of Salt Rock, passed away Monday, November 15, 2004, at Lincoln Continuous Care Center, Hamlin, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 18, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Pastor Bobby Burns. Burial will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota. He was born October 21, 1920, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a son of the late Irwin and Eunice Pridemore Wilson. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by one son, Gary Lee Wilson of Tennessee; one sister, Lois Pack of Salt Rock and one aunt, Minnie Kramer of Virginia.

Patricia “Pat” Ann Waugh

Patricia “Pat” Ann Waugh, 63, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Jack Rankin. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Barboursville, W.Va. She was born April 7, 1941, in Saginaw, Mich., to the late Theodore and Anna Loraine Miller Lozier. Pat was retired from Corbin Dress Factory and was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Gary Waugh; two daughters, Rita Floyd of South Point and Kathy Torres of Oxnard, Calif.; three sons, Jerry Adkins of Chesapeake, Kermit Adins of Chesapeake and Raymond Waugh of Scottown; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Robert WLozier of South Point; one sister, Jeanette Hoeft of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Becky Bragg and Diane Duncan, both of Proctorville.

Hilda Imogene Jobe

Hilda Imogene Jobe, 81, of Barboursville, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Graveside services were held Friday, November 19, 2004, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Craig Coster. She was born on November 1, 1923, in Barboursville, a daughter of the late Ray and Tressie Brown Toler. She was a member of Barboursville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Toler. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Jobe; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Eaton or Proctorville; one son, Steve Jobe of Ona; five grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, PO Box 464, Huntington, WV, 25709. Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Billy Joe Collins

Billy Joe Collins, 76, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the Huntington VA. Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Dr. Clifford Marguardt. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. He was born September 11, 1928, in Huntington, a son of the late Lyman and Mamie Mae Miller Collins. He was a carpenter and painter by trade, a member of the Painters Local, #1072 for 30 years and a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Collins; one grandson Matthew Collins; one stepdaughter, Sandy Lehoe. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eloise Lykins Collins; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Greg Crager; two sons and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kandi Collins and Joe Collins; two stepchildren, David Raynor and Sally Carson; one brother, Charles E. Collins; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two-great-great-grandchildren. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard Heaston

Richard Heaston of Hurricane died November 9, 2004.

Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements.

Florence Huff

Florence Huff, 81, of Hurricane died November 10, 2004, at the home of her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Huff, her parents, Walter and Myrtie Gibson, sisters, Marie Henry, Willie Mae MacCallister, and Helen Gibson, and stepson, Charles J. Huff.

She was retired from the West Virginia State Hygienic Laboratory, South Charleston, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Xylphia and Clinton “Bud” Beaver; stepson, G.C. Huff Jr.; and special caregivers, Connie Thomas and Veronica Rhodes.

Service was held Friday, November 12, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Jim McGehee officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Arthur M. Johnson

Arthur Meredith “A.M.” Johnson, 73, of Glass Additon, Poca, died November 11, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital after a long illness.

He was born December 21, 1930 in South Charleston. He was preceded in death by his father, Enerywine Johns of St. Albans, and grandsons, Justin Michael Hedrick and Joseph Matthew Johnson.

He retired after 27 years from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, Ravenswood, where he worked as an operator. He organized and was chief of the Poca Police Reserve for several years and was also a volunteer EMT for Putnam County.

Surviving: his wife of 52 years, Lula Belle Wilcox Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne and David Hedrick of Floral City, Florida, Elaine and Nick Cochran of Hometown; son and daugter-in-law, Paul and Marci Johnson of Versailles, Kentucky; mother, Zulema Johnson of St. Albans; sisters and brothers-in-law, Armona and Dewaine Egnor of St. Albans, Gloria and Jim Williams of St. Albans, Linda and Gary Grubb of New Jersey; granddaughters, Jessica and Sara Karnes of Poca, Rebecca Johnson of Versailles; grandson, Quinton Hedrick of Floral City; great-grandson, Bradley Hedrick; niece, Danita Egnor; many nieces and nephews and freinds.

Service was held Monday, November 15, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Randy Carter of Heizer Creek Community Church officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Anthony A. Erwin

Anthony Allen Erwin, 24, of Red House died November 13, 2003 from injuries received in an automobile accident on I-64.

He was born June 7, 1980 and was a lifelong resident of Putnam and Kanawha Counties. He was a 1999 graduate of Hurricane High School, was a construction worker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving: mother and stepfather, Betty Erwin Byrd and Roger Ball of Red House; brother, Brandon Byrd of Red House; grandparents, Frank and Charlotte Erwin of St. Albans; uncle and aunt, Ronnie and Donna Erwin of St. Albans; many cousins.

Service was held Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with the Rev. William L. Miller officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Kathryn J. Stover

Kathryn J. “Kathy” Stover, 62, of Nitro died November 13, 2004, in Hubbard Hospice House.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dencil Dail and Mary Jane Scott Stover, son, Christopher, and sister, Jo Ann Nelson.

Surviving: husband, Jerry L. Stover; sons, Kevin Stover of Nitro; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Bob Sutherland of Eleanor; brother and sister-in-law, Denzil Dale and Nila Stover of Red House; aunts, Margaret Coleman of Putnam County and Mabel Hopkins of Foster; nephew, Tim Null of Maryland; nieces, Diana Starcher of Teays Valley, Marie Stover of Winfield, Lisa Smith of Scott Depot, Devona Casto of Liberty, and Pam Jacobs of Nitro; seven great-nephews and three great-nieces.

Service was held Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Buel Gibson officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Res Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Paul Mader

Paul Mader, 83, of South formerly of New Carlisle, Ohio, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Entombment in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio, where committal services were held Saturday. He was born July 23,1921, in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Harry W. and Laura Wilkie Mader. He founded Dayton Engineers Club. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 34 years, as manager of Automotive Engineering at the Dayton, Ohio, plant. He was preceded in death by one son, Paul Douglas Mader. He is survived by his wife, Emma Frances Wheeler Mader; one son and two daughters-in-law, Fred and Deanna Mader of Barboursville and Sharon Mader of Louisville; three grandchildren, Jason Mader, Sarah Mader and Laura Mader. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. P.O. Box 12110, Charleston, WV, 25302.

Laura Catherine Moses Neel

Surrounded by her loving family, Laura Catherine Moses Neel, of Barboursville, W.Va., .passed from this life to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, Nov. 13,2004, in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Laura was born Jan 25, 1931, in Milton W.Va, a daughter of the late Harvey and Alma Wallace Moses. She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters, Owen Jordan Moses, Anna Moses Conner and Frances Moses Snead. She retired from the Cabell County School System after 22 years of service, during which she worked at Barboursville High School and Junior High School as a cook and cafeteria manager. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend with a heart-warming smile. She is survived by her seven children, two daughters, Dianna Stapleton, Huntington. W.Va.; Tresa and Bill Church, Ashland, Ky., and five sons, Robbin and Lisa Neel, Barboursville, Edward Neel, Huntington, Paul and Peggy Neel, Chesapeake, OH, Daniel and Emilie Neel, Mukileto, Wash., Tim and Margaret Neel, King George, VA.; eleven grandchildren: Kimberly Carico, Valerie Johnston, R.J. Neel, Aaron Neel, Michelle Neel, Eddie Neel, Heather Neel ,Jeremy Neel, Bradley Neel, Stacy Neel and Amy Neel; four great-grandchildren, Della Neel, Cassidy Tonelli, Jordan Krueger and Zachary Johnston; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.

Also surviving are three brothers, Cline Moses of Boynton Beach, Fla, Harvey and Betty Moses Jr. of Petersburg, W Va, and Carl and Bernice Moses of Live Oak, Fla, and a beloved sister-in-law, Lessie Hatfield Moses of Milton. To honor the life of Laura Neel a funeral service was conducted Wednesday Nov. 17, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home by her nephew, the Rev. Robert Browning. Following the funeral she was laid to rest in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Her sons and son-in-law served as pallbearers. The Neel family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Emergency Room and ICU staff at Cabell Huntington Hospital for their support and tender loving care during this most difficult time.

Anna Lillian Hicks

Anna Lillian Hicks, 90, of Milton went home to be with her Lord Nov. 12, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services were conducted 11 am Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Tracy Mills officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Lillian was born March 21,1914, in Lincoln County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Millard and Lelia Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Bud” Hicks; three brothers, Leonard Adkins, Griff Adkins and Joel Adkins; three sisters, Faye Gandee, Molly Keyser and Marie Brooks. Lillian retired from the cosmetic department of Anderson & Newcomb Department Store.

She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Lillian is survived by three sisters, Beatrice Grass of Yawkey, W.Va., Lucille Miller of New Cumberland, W.Va., and Edith Moore of Hamersville, Ohio; one brother, Louis S. Adkins of Georgetown, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Natala Adkins of Deltona, Fla., and Ruby Johnson of Oak Hill, W.Va.; “adopted” son and daughter and grandchildren, Herskel and Lucy Dailey of Milton; and many nieces and nephews. Lillian spent the past two years with her friends at Chateau Grove Assisted Living. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements. Shirley Louise Ellington

Shirley Louise Ellington, 82, died Saturday, November 6, 2004 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Rena Clark, Mary Murphy, and Sarah Murphy, all of Barboursville, Donna Stankavich, Bruno Stankavich, Karen Barker and Seth Clark, all of Ona, and Brent Burgess, Angela Burgess, and Dave Burgess, all of Lesage. A memorial service was held Monday, November 8, 2004 at 20th Street Baptist Church in Huntington.

Reva Lee Turley Jaynes

Reva Lee Turley Jaynes, of Milton, WV, formerly of Hamlin, WV, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 4, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. She was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Ruby Powell Turley. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Winona “Cricket” Smith and three brothers, Pete, Dorsey and Bootie Turley. She was a homemaker, a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of Hamlin Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Raymond “Durg” Jaynes of Milton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Amy Jaynes of Savannah, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Virgil Plumley of Sebring, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, W.Va., with the Rev. Forrest Curry officiating. Burial in Powell Cemetery.

John W. Keesee

John W. Keesee, 64, of Ona, W.Va., passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 8, 2004 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Ray Adkins. Burial in George Adkins Cemetery. He was born September 9, 1940, in Branchland, W.Va., the son of the late John Keesee and Alma Jeffers. He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Daisy; two sons, Buddy Keesee of Ona, W.Va. and Kevin Keesee of Barboursville; three granddaughters, Hollie and Ashlee Keesee of Wayne, W.Va., and Faith Brannen of Barboursville; two grandsons, Jimmy Saville of Florida and Douglas Saville, who preceded him in death on December 1, 1998; one great-grandson, Tyler Saville; two brothers, Joe Keesee and Silas Jeffers; two daughters-in-law, Debbie and Donna; mother-in-law, Mary Belton; one nephew, Joey Keesee and one niece, Beth Keesee. Pallbearers were Andrew Hall, Joey Keesee, Jimmy Saville, Rick Long, Dale Ramey, and Brad Collins.

Freda I. Scarberry

Freda I. Scarberry, 68, Salt Rock, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 8, 2004 at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Tom Stowers. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born October 26, 1936, in Zanesville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas and Zelma Barker McDaniel. She was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Curtis Eugene Scarberry, Clifford William Scarberry and Kenneth A. Scarberry; five daughters, Wanda I. Smith; Barbara A. Pike, Deborah K. Blankenship, Lisa Ann Jenkins and Cathy L. Scarberry; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a brother, Thomas McDaniel of Florida.
