Donald Seeds

Donald Seeds, 63, of Barboursville away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Wallace Funeral Home and Barboursville, by the Rev. Larry Sanders. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Calais, Maine, a son of the late Clarence and Alice Doris Lozier Goodwin. He retired from the U.S. Army as Chief Warrant Officer Two with 20 years of service, having served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Deloris Cotton Seeds; three daughters, Lynne Marie Dalton of Ironton, Ohio, Kimberly Rosiles of Manassas, Va., and Stacy Norman of San Francisco, Calif.; one son, John Seeds of Clarksville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Patricia Arlene “Trish” Welch

Patricia Arlene “Trish” Welch, 58, of Milton, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2004 in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane. Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 8, 2004 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Rev. Richard Black officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. She was born October 7, l946, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, a daughter of Myrtle Black Terry of Milton and the late Mack McCallister Terry Sr. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Mack McCallister Terry Jr. In addition to her mother, she is also by two sons, Mark Freeman of Kitty Hawk N.C., and Michael Freeman Jr. of Hurricane; seven brothers and their spouses, Harold and Kathy Terry of Augusta, Ga., Larry Terry of Milton, David and Jane Terry of Ona, John and Priscilla Terry of Branson, Fla., Wayne Terry of Milton, Mark and Norma Terry of Ashland, Ky., and Dallas Terry of Milton; and two grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Freeman. She was Baptist by faith. Brothers served as pallbearers.

Janet Skonberg

Janet Knapp Skonberg, 74, of Winfield, formerly of Durham, North Carolina, died November 1, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Care Home, Hurricane.

Born March 25, 1930 on Charleston's West Side, Janet was a daughter of the late Everett Wellington Knapp and Etta Florence Meeks Knapp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph David Skonberg, her son, David Everett Skonberg, and sister, Margaret Knapp Lanier.

She was an employee of C&P Telephone Co. before marrying her husband and moving to Durham, where they lived for many years. She is a member of Winfield Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving: son Stephen Eric Skonberg and his wife, Leona Merriam Skonberg, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; sisters, Naomi Knapp Bohm of Frankfurt, Indiana and Doris Knapp Hazlett of Winfield; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Service was held Thursday, November 4, 2004, at Winfield Church of the Nazarene with Pastor John Hayes officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, was in charge of arrangements.

James William Tincher

James William “Bill” Tincher, 88, died October 30, 2004, at home.

He was born September 11, 1916, the son of the late James Harvey and Elizabeth Ellis Tincher. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Clayton, Claude and Ray Tincher; four sisters, Jewell Williamson, Thelma Ashworth, Elizabeth “Lizze” Grass and Opal McCallister; and a nephew, James Harvey “Jimmie” Tincher.

He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation. He was an active member of Mount Olive Indpendent Missionary Baptist Church from 1940 until he became ill. He served there as Sunday school superintendent, deacon, teacher, church clerk and also a tustee and treasuer of the Mount Olive/Searls Cemetery Maintenance Association.

Surviving: his wife of 65 years, Madolyn Yoder Tincher; son, J.W. Tincher Jr. and his wife, Reda, of Hurricane; daughters, Carol Ratliff of Hurricane and Patsy Anderson of Pensacola, Florida; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Service was held Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Mount Olive Indpendent Missionary Church, Hurricane, with Pastor David Ashworth and Pastor Doyle Means officiating. Burial was in Mount Olive/Searls Cemetery, Hurricane. Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances M. Whittington

Frances Marie Whittington, 82, of Eleanor died November 1, 2004, at home.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, a Christian and a member of the Church of God organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James E. Whittington Sr., her parents, Fred Pauley and Hazel Light, and two grandsons, Cody Painter and Joey Whittington.

Surviving: children and their spouses, Charles and Joyce Whittington of Eleanor, James Jr. and Donna Whittington of Dunbar, Wayne and Sue Whittington of Eleanor, John and Amanda Whittington of Eleanor, Nona and Colin Newhouse of Boyonet Point, Florida, and Tina and George Sizemore of Red House; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Service was held Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with the Rev. Ron Brewer officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House.

Harry Van Dyke

Harry Victor Van Dyke, 93, of Scott Depot died November 1, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital.

Born February 7, 1911 in Clevelenad, Ohio, he was a son of the late Martin and Daisy Russon Van Dyke. He was also preceded in death by his 10 brothers.

He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, was retired from Lamson-Session Co., Cleveland, Ohio, with 26 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Surviving: his wife of 53 years, V. Kathryn Briscoe Van Dyke; sister-in-law, Marie Van Dyke Ratka of Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Service was held Thursday, November 4, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Dr. Kregg Burris and Dr. Rodney Taylor officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane.

Shirley Ann Conard

Shirley Ann Conard, 68, of Hurricane, died November 1, 2004, in St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hurricane and enjoyed the various jobs she worked at caring for the elderly.

She was born January 20, 1936 in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Carrie and Pearl Erwin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Conard, brothers, Lonnie, Gordon, Elvin, Robert, H.H. “Bud,” Dorsal “Red,” and Carl Erwin; sisters, Doris Whitt and Helen Hodges, and infant sisters, Wanda Erwin and Lorie Erwin.

Surviving: son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Conard of Scott Depot; daughrer and son-in-law, Kathy and Bo Osborne of Hurricane; grandchildren, Allen Conard, Adam Osborne, and Jessica Osborne; sister, Eunice Sovine of Milton; a host of family and friends.

Service was held Thursday, November 4, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Tim Douglass officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Crystal E. Hein

Crystal E. Hein, 86, of Nitro died November 5, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital.

She was a member of Rock Branch Independent Church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dale, Blaine and Charles Parkins, and sister, Ruth Rood.

Surviving: husband, Joe L. Hein; children, Jack Workman of Red House and Carolyn J. Thumm of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Lareence of Parkins of Barberton, Ohio; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Service was held Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Delbert Hawley officiating. Entombment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Red House.

Memorial donations may be made to Rock Branch Independent Church, 133 Cross Lanes Drive, Nitro WV 25143 or Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Lovell T. Parsons

Lovell Theodore Parsons, 80, of Cross Lanes died November 5, 2004, at home.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, former member of Goff Mountain Freewill Baptist Church, and retired from American Viscose with 36 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Parsons, sisters, Macil Hinzman and Bessie Randolph, and great-grandson, Charles Joseph Parsons.

Surviving: son, Lovell E. “Butch” Parsons of West Columbia, Charles Parsons of Red House and Lindsay Parsons of Cross Lanes; daughter, Nancy Booth of Bancroft; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Service was held Monday, November 8, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Ken Carter officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.

Robert L. Ross

Robert L. Ross, 73, of Culloden, husband of Glenda Ross, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004, in St Mary's Medical Center. He was retired from INCO Alloys. Also surviving are a daughter, Bobbi Ross of Maysville, Ky.; a granddaughter, Alex Dawson of Maysville, and a sister, Marjorie Bertram of Ona, W.Va. Donations can be made to the Huntington Hospitality House, 2801 South Staunton Road, Huntington, WV, 25702. Private services with family and neighbors are to be held at a later time. Chapman's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Jewell Sowards

Ruby Jewell Sowards, 86, of Culloden, widow of Elvia Moses Sowards, died Tuesday in St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Friday, November 5, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane; burial in Culloden Cemetery.

Eva Mabel Morrison

Eva Mabel Morrison, 87, of Barboursville passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Teays Valley Center. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. David Lemming. Entombment in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born on September 8, 1917, in Logan County, West Virginia a daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl White McNeely. She was a retired nurse having worked at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Guyandotte Order of the Eastern Star #89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Morrison, and one step-son, Howard “Billy” Morrison. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Clarence “Bill” and Linda Kay Morrison of Barboursville; one step-daughter, Bonnie Lou Walters of Barboursville; two grandchildren, Scott Matthew Morrison, Mary Beth Freeman and her husband Donal of Huntington; two great-grandchildren, Robert Scott Freeman and Jillian Kay Freeman. Eastern Star services were conducted Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen Dawn Wears

Helen Dawn Wears, 80, of Hurricane died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at Pat Christner Hill Top Manor, Pt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ralph, and her only son, James Craig Wears, who died while serving during the Vietnam War.

She was retired from FMC with over 40 years of service. She was an avid bowler, gardener and quilter.

Surviving: sister, Mary Richard of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; caregiver, Pat Christner.

Service was held Friday, October 29, 2004, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Rob VanFossen officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
