John Clinton Harbour

John Clinton Harbour. 71, of Lesage, W.Va, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at his daughter's residence in Clearwater, Fla, after a silent heart attack. He was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Huntington, WV, to the late John W. and Frances Grubbs Harbour. His wife, Phyllis A. Harbour; grandchildren, Christopher and Jason Walz; and nephew, James R. Fulks, also preceded him in death. He was a retired chemist with BASF with 36 years of service and was a U.S. Army Medic veteran. He is survived by Adeline H.; daughters, Teresa A. Walz of Clearwater, Fla., K. Diane Jaicomo of Naples, Fla., and Pamela E. Alymer of St. Petersburg, Fla; sister, Lorraine Fulks of Huntington, WV.; grandchildren, W.M. “Clinton” Hager, Elizabeth Gorenc and Michael Aylmer; great-grandchildren, Billy and Dillon Hager; and nephews, J. Michael Byrd and Steve Fulks. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Barboursville. Richard Bruce Hensley

Richard Bruce Hensley, 37, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2004. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, at Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. David Lemming. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He was born June 3, 1967, in Fort Worth, Texas , a son of Richard E. Hensley and the late Sandra K. Hensley. He is survived by his wife, Danita Glenn Hensley; one son, Kyle, at home; and three daughters, Rachael, Kayla and Laura, all at home. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine J. Davis

Catherine Joan Davis, age 70, of Thornville, entered eternal Life Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 0. S. U. Medical Center, Columbus, OH. She was born April 17, 1934 in Milton, W.Va. the daughter of the late Lee A. and Helen E. (Hunt) Ball. Catherine was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Buckeye Lake, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Catherine is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tommie L. Davis, daughters, Kathy J. (Fred) Winegardner, Tamara S. (Frank) Irwin, Elizabeth M. Davis, and Margaret A. (David) Hamilton, all of Thornville. Sister, Margaret S. (James) Flora, of Milton W.Va., Brothers, Robert L. (Doris) Ball, of Milton, W.Va. and Thomas L. (Shelia) Ball, of Barboursville, W.Va.; 8 Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Grandchildren, and special Nephew Christopher Lavender, many nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. Catherine was preceded in death by parents, son Howard L. Davis (1990), and brother Jerry R. Ball (1975). Funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Buckeye Lake with Monsignor Frank J. Meagher officiating. Burial at the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Thornville EMS, P.O. Box 419, Thornville, OH 43076.

Margaret E. Cantley

Margaret E. Cantley, 87, of Barboursville, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary by Pastor Bruce Day. Interment in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born June 17, 1917, in Bluefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late William and Ida Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Watson; a sister, Mildred Dean; a daughter, Wanda Mae Thompson; and a granddaughter, Teresa J. Peterson. Mrs. Cantley was a retired optician with the City Optical Company. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, George T. Cantley; two daughters, Drema Mealey of Kenova and Cecelia “Ceggie” Pelfrey of Indiana; one sister, Mary Wheeler of Salem, Va.; five grandchildren, Debbie Dougherty, Cheryl Pelfrey, Greg Pelfrey, Vance Mealey and Steve Mealey; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at The Inn at Wyngate, St. Mary's Medical Center, Hospice of Huntington and Dr. Daniels who cared for her so faithfully. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1111 Lee St. East Charleston, WV 25301.

Lucille Farris Anderson Beach

Lucille Farris Anderson Beach, 83, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by Pastor Mark McKay. Burial in Enon Cemetery. She was born July 8, 1921 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Pinkerman Farris. She also was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Beach and one son, Bobby Burke Anderson. She is survived by two daughters, Clemmie Shepard of Proctorville, Ohio, and Theresa Sue Hogsett of Belmont, W.Va.; seven sons, Joe Lee Anderson of Milton, Sulvanna Anderson of Bainbridge, Pa., Tommy Anderson of Auburndale, Fla., Billy Chris Anderson of Columbia, Pa., Bruce Conley Anderson of Barboursville, Benny Anderson of Lavalette and Randy Anderson of South Point, Ohio; one sister, Julia Mae Lindsay of Huntington; one brother, Hobert Farris of Huntington, 25 grandchildren who called her “Skinny Grandma,” 33 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International.

Anuel F. Caserta

Anuel F. Caserta, 82, of Barboursville, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1922, in Logan, W.Va., a son of the late Samuel Antorio and Gladys Moore Caserta. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Marie Caserta; a grandson, Clifford Caserta; two sisters, Rinda “Boots” Vance and Mildred Ingram; and two brothers, Gary Caserta and Victor Caserta. He retired from INCO Alloys. Survivors include his only son, Mike Caserta of Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Martha Rose Moore of Barboursville, W.Va., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Tony Vance officiating. Entombment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Alberta Leo “Mam Maw” Smith Medley

Mrs. Alberta Lee “Mam Maw” Smith Medley, 97, of Milton, W.Va., passed away Monday, November 29, 2004, at Heartland of Riverview in South Point, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va., with Dr. T.J. DuBose and Minister John Holland officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Kenova. Alberta “Dossie” was born January 10, 1917, in Wayne County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Drucilla Smith Bias. She was a member of the Milton Baptist Church and a life member of the Marcum Chapter #61 OES, Ceredo, W.Va. She was retired LPN. Mam Maw was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William Sherman “Pap Paw” Medley, and her brothers Donald L., Forrest and Ralph Edward Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Donna M. Painter of Milton, W.Va.; her granddaughter, Rae Ann Parsons and her husband, Wendell Parsons, of Huntington, W.Va.; and her grandson, Robert J. Adams of Milton, W.Va. Mam Maw had one great-grandson, Jason W. Parsons of Huntington, W.Va. She is also survived by her sister, Doris E. Johnson of Kenova, W.Va.; special sisters-in-law, Helen Smith and Margaret Smith both of Huntington, W.Va., June Burris and her husband, Eddy, of Huntington and Betty Maynard of Fort Worth, Texas , and Pauline Medley of Ceredo, W.Va., and a special brother-in-law, Woody Parsons of Lavonia, Mich., and two special friends, Reva Noble of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Brenda Chaney of Ona, W.Va.

The family would like to thank St. Mary's Home Health Care workers Judy Bills and William Racer, caregiver, Charlene Kingery and the staff of Heartland of Riverview. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Milton Baptist Church, 1123 Church Street in Milton, WV 25541.

Louella Brinegar

Louella Brinegar, 63, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 2, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by the Rev. Truman Adkins and Rev. Russell Gue. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. She was born May 15, 1941, in Branchland, W.Va., a daughter of the late Luther and Violet Ferguson Parsons. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Willis Parsons of Branchland. She is survived by her husband, Everette Brinegar; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leona and Bill Carter, Violet and Troy Nicely, and Beatrice Renee and Rodney Turner, all of Huntington; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Jackie Brinegar of Salt Rock; stepdaughter, Beverly Wilkerson of Branchland; 11 grandchildren, Aaron, Shannon and Nathon Moore, Sean and Sara Brinegar, Natasha, Jessica, and Dakota Nicely, Ashley, Justin and Cheyanne Turner; two great-grandchildren, Amy and Amanda Wilkerson; five step-grandchildren, and three great-step-grandchildren; four brothers, Holmer, Robert, Karry and Woolard of Branchland; and one sister, Ariva Ross of Huntington.

George J. Burks

George J. Burks, 81, of Port Crane, N.Y., formerly of Milton, W.Va., passed away November 24, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 2, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Craig Coster. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born February 1, 1923, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late George L. and Ruth Patterson Burks. He was a retired employee of Honeywell, Inc., a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and a member and past master of the Minerva Lodge #13 AF&AM. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Murray Burks; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Lynn and Steve Owens of Port Crane, N.Y.; one son, Lanford Carrol Burks of Huntington; five grandchildren, Kara Mayle and her husband Brian of Culloden, W.Va., Christa Gabriel and her husband Dennis of Pensacola, Fla., Nicholas Owens of Tucson, Ariz., Adam Owens of Port Crane, N.Y., and Daniel Lee Burks of Huntington; four great-grandchildren, Emily Mayle, Andrew Mayle, Allyson Mayle and Alexander Mayle.

Jerry L. Gibson

Jerry Lonard Gibson, 92, died November 21, 2004.

He was born on Manila Creek on July 10, 1912 to Mary and Richard Gibson, the youngest of eight brothers and one sister. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Craigo Gibson.

He sang with seven quartets during his lifetime, the last being the Gospel Generations. He was a choir leader, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, choir director of the Bancroft Church of God Mission. He was the founder of the Friendly Men's Association, a veteran of World War II and was a Christian. He attended Bancroft Church of God Mission the entirely of his life.

Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Marietta and Ralph Workman, Jerry and Lee Bailey, Barbara and Danny McClanahan; son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Karen Gibson; grandchildren and their spouses, Portia and David Lanham, Tracy and Brent Null, Ryan and Melinda Bailey, Tim and Jessica Bailey, Emily and Arden King, Jason and Jenny McClanahan, Jessica Gibson, and Blake Gibson; great-grandchildren, David and Payne and wife, Stephanie, Erika Null, Whitney Null, Hayden Bailey, Chase Bailey, Jaiden Bailey, Austin King, and Jacob McClanahan; great-great-grandson, Gavin Hunter Payne; and a host of family and friends.

Service was held Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with the Rev. Ralph Workman and Pastor Earl Cochran officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Frankie A. Black

Frankie Adam Black, 91, of Hurricane died Thursday, November 18, 2004, after a short illness.

A retired carpenter from Union Carbide with 29 years of service, he also helped his sons at Black's Sunoco. He visited and sang at many churches in the area.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audra Black, son, Jimmie Black, and grandson, Jimmie Carrol Black.

Surviving: son, Jackie Black of Culloden; grandchildren, Lisa and Sam Craddock, Robbie and Kristi Black, Joe Black, and Jaclyn and Eric Frazier; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Ryan, Alisha and Little Jimmie; special caregiver, Dianna Black.

Service was held Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, with the Rev. Paul Spence and Minister Tony Stowers officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane.

Ruby Mae Cottrill

Ruby Mae Cottrill, 81, of Cross Lanes died November 19, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Nitro Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eura Owen Cottrill Jr., and son, Robert Owen Cottrill.

Surviving: sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce Allen and Dianne Cottrill of Frametown and Gary Bernard Cottrill of Cross Lanes; brothers, Gary and Eddie Ragle; grandson, Steven Paul Cottrill of Seven Valley PA; great-grandchildren, Jason, Steven Jr. and Nicole Cottrill.

Service was held Monday, November 2, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Red House.

LaVonne J. Hunt

LaVonne J. Hunt, 78, of Winfield died November 19, 2004, in Thomas Memorial Hospital.

She was a housewife and a member of Winfield United Methodist Church.

Surviving: husband, Donald M. Hunt; son, Allen Donald Hunt of Florida; daughters, Karen Elizabeth Foster of Spencer and Kelly Marion Bryant of Winfield; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Service was private. Burial was in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton. Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Marie Gibson

Clara Marie Davis Gibson, 95, of Hurricane died Monday, November 22, 22004, at her residence.

She was born June 3, 1909, a daughter of the late Rodrick and Villa Cochran Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cline Gibson, two sons and a daughter.

Surviving: daughters and a son-in-law, Wilma Bird of Hurricane, Faye and Don Cobb of Huntington, and Maxine Bowen of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Betty Gibson of Hurricane, Carroll and Kay Gibson of Milton, and Lester “Doug” Gibson and Debbie Thomas of St. Albans; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren, special friend, Michelle Lacy of Kanawha Hospice Care.

Service was held Saturday, November 27, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Jim Stone and Rev. James Jobe officiating. Burial was in Ball Cemetery.

Labe F. McKinney

Labe F. McKinney, 78, of Hurricane died November 23, 2004, at home.

Born October 21, 1926 in Morehead, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Laban and Mollie Crosthwaite McKinney.

He attended Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Hurricane, and was the retired owner/operator of Drive Line Services for 27 years.

Surviving: wife, Rose McKinney; sons, David McKinney of St. Albans and Steven McKinney of Morehead; stepson, David Halstead of Hampton, Virginia; stepdaughters, Shelley Perry of Hurricane and Tracey Rick of Bremen, Georgia; sisters, Hazel McKinney of Morehead and Phyllis Solinger of Crestline, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Service was held Friday, November 26, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, with Dr. Kregg Burris officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar WV 25064.
